Todays Mastery Objective

I will be able to
explain how a person's identity
influences the choices they make by
participating in a barometer activity
and writing a 5-8 sentence journal
entry.

Little Things Are Big"

After we have read the story, answer the following
question on your handout:

What should Colon do? List at least 2

reasons for your response.

Barometer Activity
Silently find a place to stand between
the two signs, He should help or He
should not help. The closer you are to
a sign, the more strongly you are
showing your support for its message.
Although you may feel certain of your
position at the start of the activity, you
can change your place along the line if
your opinion changes.

What did Colon decide to do?

Fear v. Regret
What FEARS did Colon have?
What did he REGRET?

Small group discussion

With the person next to you, discuss the other 2
questions on the handout.
1.How did the attitudes and values of others shape the
choice he made?
2. Did he make the right choice? Would your answer be
the same if he were a white man? Would your answer
change if the author were an African American woman?

During or after you have discussed the questions,

you may jot down your answers.

Homework
Make sure that your classwork
handout is complete.
