HONOR THY FATHER

AND MOTHER

Anyone who has ever been a family caregiver knows that this is not a job
for the faint at heart. If your caree happens to be a parent, you may find
that you need to be a little extra. Caring for a parent means that you will
need to be extra mindful; and you may need to have extra restraint (some
comments dont require your response). You need to be extra vigilant with
your health or else you may find that you are the one needing a caregiver.

RIDDLE WAR!!!
RIDDLE WAR By Sevashtiana, Romuald, Jascinta, and Jean Emile compiles some of the most entertaining and very innovative riddles generated in
our family over the course of many years. This odd habit of creating and
gathering unique riddles started some time back when one little four year old
riddle-lover received his first riddle book at Christmas. That unusual gift
was nurtured in a way that deeply transformed our household. It eventually
triggered the start of an ongoing riddle showdown that shifted from merely
reading and joking about riddles of others to a fairly animated creativity contest. We casually take turns testing each other with the best riddle we can
possibly come up with. This family bound face-off is intimately called a
Riddle War which symbolizes a complete participation and the fact that
decoding one riddle ultimately leads to a counter attack as new riddles are
constantly being formulated. The time and place to play Riddle War is
completely random. The setting can easily be our home, the grocery store,
the park, our way to or from a particular destination, etc A rogue riddle
would emerge unexpectedly as one culprit tries to surprise the rest of the
team with the latest funny concoction. The purpose mainly resides in a relentless effort to reclaim the spotlight and watch others scramble to solve the
conundrum. Next month please join in, share the fun and cheer up family,
friends, co-workers and beyond. Happy Giggling!

The Spotlight Gallery at Pine Camp

Arts and Community Center
Showcasing Arte an Annual
Hispanic Heritage Month Art Exhibition

The exhibit opening on Friday, September 16 with a public reception from 6

to 8 p.m., will feature contemporary artists Fabian Ramirez, Josue Fred, Helene Ruiz and Juan Carlos Suazo. Each of these artists work in various mediums including oils, acrylics, masks, sculpture and mixed media. I am
thrilled that we have such creative individuals sharing their work here. The
artwork is dynamic and the public will be wowed, said Shaunn Casselle, Curator with the Cultural Arts Unit, City of Richmond. Helene Ruiz, artist, curator and founder of The Urban Individualists has shown at Pine Camp before
with her Orishas series.

Juan Carlos Suazo is a New York area artist who specializes in papier mache
masks. Another new artist to the area is Josue Fred who paints as well as creates sculptures. And, Fabian Ramirez who hails from Argentina-The City of
Sculpture will contribute additional sculptures for the show. To have artist,
Fabian Ramirez, create an installation just for our exhibit is so exciting. We
are bracing ourselves to see this unique creation, said Casselle. For more information on gallery hours or to schedule a tour, please call (804) 646-6722.
This exhibit runs through Friday, October 21. Visitors to Pine Camp will also
notice the new public art on the premises. A recent collaboration with the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts has given a new home to their Ndebele playhouses
which were inspired by South African artist, Esther Mahlangus murals on display at the museum. Community members aided in the elaborate painting of
these houses at a VMFA family day event. Pine Camp, located at 4901 Old
Brook Road, is nestled within 30 acres along the northern edge of Richmond.
It is part of the Citys Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities. During National Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 to October 15)
we recognize the contributions made and the important presence of Hispanic
and Latino Americans to the United States and celebrate their heritage and culture.

Wounded Healers at
National Counseling Group

National Counseling Group has been in existence since 1993. It is the largest private mental health provider in Virginia that provides community
based services to those in need. National provides an array of mental
health/behavioral health services that are designed to assist our clients during the storms of difficulties and ordeals. Our goal is to improve lives and
empower our clients to sustain well after we have discharged services.
There are many factors that make National Counseling Group unique and
successful. It could be our CARE Model that defines our service delivery.
It could be our relationships that we have developed with those in the mental health arena over the years. Maybe its our ability to navigate and adjust to ongoing mental health changes. Could it be our ability to be well
versed and trained to deal with various mental health diagnoses? Perhaps
its the fact that we have been in existence for over 20 years.
What makes National Counseling Group unique and successful?
According to Donald Edwards, Assistant Site Director/Company Chaplain, Its our wounded healers! Our wounded healers are our counselors
who counsel our clients and yet are healing from their own wounds. They
are passionate about making a difference because they had to deal with
their own history of family dysfunction. They may have dealt with various
family dysfunctions, such as past experiences with alcoholism, drugs, abuse, addictions, violence, mental health, and various behavioral issues.
We are the wounded who use our wounds to heal others. Our counselors
have the heart to lift others from their despair because they remember what
it was like when they were hanging from the cliff of uncertainty. God can
take your pain and turn it into power! Thats what makes us success"I'm thrilled to see a New look at Ann Hardy Park. The kids are going to
ful.
