Relevant Management Theories and the key issues relating to them:
Planning
Planning is the process of setting objectives and determining how to accomplish the goals (Schemerhorn
and Davidson et al., 2011, pp. 163-184). In this case, Sime Darby involves operational plan in order to
achieve the goal. The problem that the Sime Darby is facing is due to deforestation and this report has
conveyed the plan, which is replantation and rehabilitation of the rainforest and its inhabitants.
Leading
Leadership is a process of directing and influencing the task-related activities group members (James A.F
and R.Edward et al., 1995, pp. 470-489). A leader is someone who influences others to achieve the goals
set and has managerial authority over the subordinates (Robbins, 2009). Based on this research, Sime
Darby should incorporate a leader who is both a transactional leader and charismatic leader. A
transactional leader is to push the workers to work hard with reward at the end whereas the charismatic
leader motivates the employees to work together and achieve the goal as a team. (G.A, 1996, pp. 50-51)
