Bachelor of Arts
in Individualized Studies
The curriculum of FDUs Petrocelli College of Continuing
Studies is designed to address the needs of students outside the
mainstream of traditional undergraduate and graduate
populations served by FDUs other colleges, such as adult learners, those with prior educational experience, and students seeking a broader education than is allowed by traditional majors
and minors. Petrocelli Colleges many initiatives also represent
an entrepreneurial approach to meeting the needs of students of
all ages and backgrounds.
Program Overview
The Bachelor of Arts in Individualized Studies (B.A.I.S.) allows
students to complete a baccalaureate degree combining the
breadth and flexibility of a liberal arts education with careerrelated specializations. Students may choose to pursue a
single area of study in depth or design a program of study that
combines liberal arts courses with one or more career-related
concentrations. The B.A.I.S. program is also unique in that it
provides greater flexibility for transfer credits (up to 90 credit
hours) for students with prior coursework.
To earn the B.A. in Individualized Studies, students must complete a minimum of 120 credit hours of coursework, 30 credit
hours of which must be completed at FDU (including 9 credit
hours of the specialization and a total of 24 upper-level credit
hours). 39 credits will be in the Liberal Arts and Sciences, 12 in
the University Core, and 6 in computer skills and international
perspectives. The remainder consists of a minimum of one
specialization and free electives. Specialized Studies consist of
18 upper-level credits in a single discipline or in a recognized
cross-disciplinary concentration.
Students completing the requirements for the Bachelor of Arts
in Individualized Studies degree will be required to demonstrate
proficiency in a number of subject areas and related skills. They

The Bachelor of Arts in Individualized Studies program gave me the opportunity to earn an Arts degree in Canada in
less than two years! I have a professional degree from Brazil, and what I loved about the BAIS program was it allowed
me to transfer a large number of courses so I could fast track my degree. With a wide range of specializations to choose
from, the friendly campus atmosphere and personalized attention from professors helped to provide an exceptional
academic experience at FDU-Vancouver. Juliana Fiorentino, Brazil

Pre-University Program
Preparing Students for the Challenges of University Study
Taking the Pre-University Program (PUP) at FDU has enabled me to learn the academic English I needed to be successful
in a Bachelors degree program. It was needed as preparation time for me to be a regular University student and to make
myself more knowledgeable and familiar with the expectations of the North American educational system. Because the
University offered this program, I was able to focus more on the essentials that were needed to become a regular University
student in an English speaking country. As a PUP student, I also earned credits towards my undergraduate degree: FDU
allowed me to take regular university courses that required less English skills so that I could make the most efficient use of
my time. FDUs Pre University Program was an effective way for me to be a successful International student.

PUP Level 1
Students in PUP Level 1 enrol in the English for Post Secondary Education (EPE) program at KGIC and
also take one 3-credit college credit course on the FDU campus. EPE is a 12-week intensive academic
preparation program focused on the four academic skill areas that most international students need
to improve for academic success: vocabulary and discussion, reading comprehension, writing and
mechanics, and listening in academic contexts.
