The Study Abroad Option

The Inter-Campus Transfer Option

Students have the option of completing a study abroad semester

at FDU campuses in the U.S. or U.K.

To be competitive in todays job market, graduates need to offer

prospective employers something that sets them apart from the rest.
High on employers lists are individuals with experience living in
different cultures and a proven ability to adapt to change.

Whether you are interested in the hustle and bustle of New York
City or the tranquility of the English countryside, Fairleigh
Dickinson Universitys study abroad option offers you an
exciting opportunity to broaden your experiences and get a taste
for life in a different culture.

When I arrived at the FDU-Vancouver campus, I

felt right at home. It offers a unique and amazing
multicultural experience in one of the nicest cities in
the world. The FDU-Vancouver campus offers rewarding opportunities and growth for a variety of careers
in business. Todd Skarbnik, USA

Fairleigh Dickinson Universitys unique inter-campus transfer

option gives students the opportunity to gain a more diverse
range of experiences than they would receive if they studied in
only one location or completed just one study abroad semester,
benefiting them long after they graduate.
I transferred to FDU-Vancouver from our
Madison campus for a year of study. Originally I was only supposed to stay a semester, but
after the first few weeks I realized it was essential for both my education and experiences to
remain in Vancouver for a full year. Although
the campus is small, it brings a greater sense
of ownership when saying I go to Fairleigh
Dickinson University. We are a fast paced growing school that has
plenty of opportunity for student involvement. The part that I like
most about this campus, is how culturally diverse we are. Keeping in
mind that Peter Sammartino originally created FDU to become an
institution of and for the world I can honestly say in my opinion
that Fairleigh Dickinson-Vancouver has accomplished just that.
Ryan Barth-Dwyer, USA

Students interested in transferring to one of FDUs campuses in

the U.S. are welcome to change their declared major, provided
that they have taken the necessary prerequisites and/or meet the
specified entry requirements of their new program.

What I value the most about FDU are
the flexible programs, knowledgeable
faculty, and enthusiastic students. The
MAS program itself is well organized: a
practical, up-to-date, and relevant course
that is much more useful for a students
career than an MBA. The assignments are
intended to develop the kind of knowledge,
skills, and attributes that are very much in demand in todays
workplace, and the faculty ensure that learning is in-depth,
academically rigorousand fun! The online library resources are
excellent for developing superior research skills, and I felt that the
whole program teaches students to be better learners and prepares
them to be leaders in their field. The professors are very encouraging: they have high standards but are always ready to assist, and
they guarantee interesting class discussions. The school has done
an excellent job of selecting the best students from around the
world so that the multicultural experience adds to what students
learn and what they need to learn for success in international
business. I would definitely recommend the FDU MAS program to
anyone who is seeking the very best education!

Pre-University Program
Preparing Students for the Challenges of University Study

The FDU-Vancouver Pre-University Program is specifically

designed for international students who meet the Universitys
admission standards but require additional training in academic
English skills (speaking, listening and/or writing skills).
Together with an intensive, innovative curriculum that integrates learning strategies and critical thinking skills, the PreUniversity Programs small class sizes and supportive university
environment provides students with the flexibility to learn at
their own pace while meeting the learning outcomes of the program. Upon completion of the Pre-University Program, students
will have acquired the academic speaking, listening and writing
skills necessary for success in FDUs Business, IT and BAIS
programs.
Students who enroll in the Pre-University Program will receive
conditional admission to FDU and can earn up to 14 university credits toward their degree, allowing them to finish their
degree faster and start their career sooner.
Pre-University Program Advantages

Classes tailored to students needs ensure a greater chance

of success in a degree program

On-campus location allows students full integration into

campus activities

Small class sizes and a high frequency of one-on-one

interaction with faculty

Excellent academic support both inside and outside of class

Degree credits which may be transferable to other

universities

Taking the Pre-University Program (PUP) at FDU has enabled me to learn the academic English I needed to be successful
in a Bachelors degree program. It was needed as preparation time for me to be a regular University student and to make
myself more knowledgeable and familiar with the expectations of the North American educational system. Because the
University offered this program, I was able to focus more on the essentials that were needed to become a regular University
student in an English speaking country. As a PUP student, I also earned credits towards my undergraduate degree: FDU
allowed me to take regular university courses that required less English skills so that I could make the most efficient use of
my time. FDUs Pre University Program was an effective way for me to be a successful International student.

*MAS course varies per term

During the first term at FDU, students enrolled in the PMP take two academic preparation courses and one Masters degree
course.
EPS 5099 students focus on skill development in five specific areas: academic and professional writing; critical reading and
thinking; oral communication; foundations for research; and orientation to the culture of North American graduate studies. Students write reports and essays that inform and persuade, using strategies and language suitable for explanation and
argument. In addition, Students examine text structures, which assist them to read effectively and critically and to focus on
language, thinking, and organization required for writing to meet course expectations.
Students listen to lectures, taking notes and writing summaries and critiques, and give oral presentations, with and without
technology, lead and participate in discussions/meetings, and interview others. Working with on-line and field research, students talk and write about their research findings, and document using the APA style sheet. Through various kinds of regular
practice and interactions, students explore relevant global issues and topics of interest as they gain foundational skills and
knowledge for their graduate studies.
The workshop component, EPS 5199, provides students opportunities to practice academic writing and oral communication
and for individualized consultations with the instructor. Students are expected to maintain a portfolio of work, to self-monitor
skill progress and to give input regarding course direction.

Student Life
Student Support Services

Career Services

FDU-Vancouver takes a holistic approach to learning, one in

which life outside the classroom complements and supports
academic goals.

FDU-Vancouver understands that students ultimate goal in

studying for a university degree is to help them launch their
career and move them on to the next stage in their life.

Student Support Services provides orientation programs to

assist students with their transition to university life, as well as
ongoing support and assistance with future planning.

every aspect of student life ranging from assistance with accommodation arrangements, athletics and extracurricular activities,
and career services.

Athletics are an ideal way to balance student life. For students
interested in athletics, FDU-Vancouver has something for
everyone. Our students regularly participate in intramural
sports such as:

running
hiking

Career Services include:

Career exploration workshops

Workshops for writing cover letters, resumes and interview
techniques

volleyball
long boat racing

In addition to athletics, there are many opportunities for

students to gain leadership experience in student sponsored
clubs or local community groups.
Supporting the Universitys mission to be The Leader in Global
Education, FDU-Vancouver students have raised thousands of
dollars for communities around the world.
Housing and Homestay
The University offers assistance with housing through an
off-campus housing board, a homestay referral service, and
special arrangements with local student-style accommodations.
Many international students start their university experience
living with a family in Vancouver. This allows them to share in
all the rich and rewarding experiences Canadian home life can
provide. In a typical homestay, students have a private bedroom
in the home of a local family. Students will join the family for
breakfast and dinner and have a lunch provided to them for
school.
For students new to the Vancouver area, homestay is an excellent housing option.

Student life at FDU-Vancouver is great because you get

to meet lots of different people from around the world
and we are always celebrating cultural activities such as
Diwali or Salvadorian and Mexican Independence Days.
You feel like you are celebrating at home. On weekends,
I play on the FDU soccer team and it is great because the
team is co-recreational. Transportation and safety in
Vancouver is excellent, so you feel very secure in the city.
Vancouver is unique because in the same day you can be at the beach or
snowboarding on a mountain. I have only been here for 1 year and there
are so many new things to discover. Right now I am working on campus,
and I look forward to getting my work permit to work off campus.
