Northwest Halifax High School has a rich history within the Roanoke Valley community
specifically among those that have attended the school. Recently alumni have become more
active in supporting the school financially and through service. The 2015-2016 school year
marked the second year that the newly developed alumni association has been able to provide
scholarships to college-bound seniors. The school has several teachers from Jamaica and the
VIF International Education program. There are no student/staff spotlights to highlight the
academic or professional successes at the school.
Each year, the athletic program engages in friendly competition with our sister school, Southeast
Halifax High School for bragging rights in the King of the County football competition. During
this game, alumni return for fellowship and camaraderie and to cheer their alma mater on to
victory. The bands and cheerleaders all prepare for this event as it is one of the highlights of the
season. There is no evidence of this event on the website.
When reviewing the website, I found little to no focus on students, culture, or academic
preparation. There are no pictures from graduation, summer programs, or welcoming the
students/parents back to school. The website remains a blank slate to be completed. The site is
visually appealing to visitors, but when doing a deeper assessment, it offers no substance to keep
the visitors informed or encourage them to view other pages.
