Message to Parents
Welcome to a new School Year! On behalf of everyone at Midnapore School, I
would like to welcome you to the 2016/2017 school year. As a staff, we are
looking forward to an exciting year with our students and their families. Our
MEET GREET and EAT Pancake Dinner on September 1st was a huge success
and very well attended. From the positive feedback we have received from the
Parent Community, this will continue to become a valuable custom at
Midnapore School.
Thank you to ATCO Utilities for the use of their grills, to Steve Grant for
allowing us to borrow his large tin chaffing dishes from his Black Apron
Cuisine Catering, to the Midnapore School Council for the financial support,
and to the Midnapore community and staff members who supported and
assisted with preparing, cooking and cleaning. The Pancake Dinner was a great
way to meet our students and their families the week before school officially
began!
Our school programs/student numbers continue to grow, so we are pleased to
welcome another new staff member to Midnapore School. Mrs. Cynthia Su is
joining our staff as a grade 4 and grade 4/5 Mandarin Teacher. We welcome
Mrs. Su from Highwood School, one of the north Mandarin Bilingual Schools.
Most staff from former years will be returning to school this year, so there are
very few staff changes.
I know that our new staff greatly appreciated the warm welcome they have
received from returning staff, students and parents. We are all looking forward
to another great year of learning.
Assigned Teachers
Since June, there have been some changes in the number of students attending
our school community. Some families moved away during the summer, while
other families moved in. We currently have over 500 students registered in both
our Regular and our Mandarin Bilingual Programs. We are just over the CBEs
spring projections, an indication that our Midnapore School Community
continues to flourish.
This school year, we have two combined grade 5/6 classrooms, one in our
Regular Program and one in our Mandarin Program, and one combined grade
4/5 classroom in the Mandarin Program. The remainder of our students are

School Supplies
School supplies will be distributed by teachers on the first days of school.
Students are not required to purchase any school supplies. An ISM
(Instructional Supplies and Materials) Fee of $30.00 for grades 1-6 and $15.00
for Kindergarten will be collected to cover the cost of these supplies. A pair of
comfortable indoor shoes would be beneficial, as well as a sturdy, child friendly
backpack.
School Fees and Waivers
Fee sheets are distributed the first week of school and are due in
September/October. All fees can be paid online. There is an option to have the
following fees waived for parents/guardians who meet certain income
guidelines, and/or fall into certain groups: ISM, Noon Supervision and
Transportation. Refer to details on the Fee Waiver Application which is
available on the CBE website http://www.cbe.ab.ca/Parents/fees.asp or at the
school office.
We thank those families that have already registered online and paid their fees.
If you chose to pay your fees by cheque or money order, please use the Central
Fee Payment Form that was sent home with your child.
Lunchroom Supervision
All students who attend Midnapore School and choose to stay at school for
lunch must pay a noon supervision fee. For the 2016 - 2017 school year, the fee
for Noon Supervision is: $255. There is no family maximum. Our Noon
Supervision program operates on a 4 day schedule, Monday Thursday.
Transportation
All students accessing transportation are required to pay Transportation Fees.
Fees are stated as the annual amount; however, they can be paid monthly by
submitting a pre-authorized debit agreement. Please see the relevant
transportation form and/or Central Fee Payment Form for additional fee
payment methods. Only students attending the Mandarin Bilingual Program are
bus-eligible riders. The transportation fee is $335.00 per year.

Parent Communication
Parents must subscribe to continue receiving certain school
messages
Due to federal legislation (Canadas Anti-Spam Legislation, or
Student Agendas, on-line Weebly Blogs (teachers will be sending home their
Weebly Blog web address), phone calls, meeting times and notes home are just
some of the ways we as a school will also be communicating with parents.
Once again we will be booking our Parent/Student/Teacher Conferences using
an on line program. More information concerning Conferences will be sent to
you later this month.
At Midnapore we support Progressive Student Discipline:
This is a whole school approach that utilizes a continuum of intervention,
supports, and consequences to address inappropriate and unacceptable student
