Az lvilg fejldsben, a fajok elterjedsben hatalmas szerepe van a kontinensek vndorlsnak, a lemeztektonikai mozgsoknak. A feldarabold

A Levante dli rsze leginkbb a sivatagi viszonyokat kedvel fajok szmra tjrhat. Az arab frszpikkelyes-vipera (Echis coloratus) (6. bra) csak az egyik tagja
a Nyugat-Afriktl Kelet-Indiig elterjedt fajgazdag nemzetsgnek (Cherlin
1990). A frszpikkelyes-viperk minden bizonnyal thidaltk az Afrika s zsia
kztti tvolsgot, de a fajok egy rsze a Bb-el-Mandeben keresztl csszhatott
t (Joger 1987). Az arab frszpikkelyes-vipera bizonyosan hasznlta a Levantei-fldhidat is, s Egyiptom szakkeleti rsztl a Levantn t Omnig folyamatos az elterjedse. Br a szlssgesen homoklak viperafajokhoz hasonlan
oldalazva lpeget, maga inkbb a szilrd, szikls, kves aljzatot kedveli. Olykor
azonban heteken t, megszakts nlkl a sivatagi bokrokon l, s az gakra pihenni leszll vonul nekesmadarakat tizedeli (Yosef et al. 2012, Babocsay
2013). A Levante szaki rszn elfordul populcija morfolgiailag nagymrtkben elklnl a dli, arbiai s egyiptomi populciktl, s gy nll alfajt (E.
c. terraesanctae) kpvisel (Babocsay 2003).
