Blessed are you, O Christ,

Son of the Living God!
Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel;
He has come to his people and set them free.
He has raised up for us a mighty Savior,
Born of the house of his servant David.
Blessed are you, O Christ,
Son of the Living God!
Through his holy prophets he promised of old
That he would save us from our enemies,
From the hands of all who hate us.
He promised to show mercy to our fathers
And to remember his holy Covenant.
Blessed are you, O Christ,
Son of the Living God!
This was the oath he swore to our father Abraham:
To set us free from the hands of our enemies,
Free to worship him without fear,
Holy and righteous in his sight all the days of our life.
Blessed are you, O Christ,
Son of the Living God!
You, my child,
shall be called the prophet of the Most High,
For you will go before the Lord to prepare his way,
To give his people knowledge of salvation
By the forgiveness of their sins.
Blessed are you, O Christ,
Son of the Living God!
In the tender compassion of our God
The dawn from on high shall break upon us,
to shine on those who dwell in darkness
and the shadow of death,
And to guide our feet into the way of peace.
Blessed are you, O Christ,
Son of the Living God!

O Lord and Ruler of the hosts of heaven,

God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob,
and of all their righteous offspring:
You made the heavens and the earth,
with all their vast array.
Lord, have mercy or Kyrie eleison
All things quake with fear at your presence;
they tremble because of your power.
But your merciful promise is beyond all measure;
it surpasses all that our minds can fathom.
Lord, have mercy or Kyrie eleison
O Lord, you are full of compassion,
long suffering, and abounding in mercy.
You hold back your hand;
you do not punish as we deserve.
Lord, have mercy or Kyrie eleison
In your great goodness, Lord,
you have promised forgiveness to sinners,
that they may repent of their sin and be saved.
Lord, have mercy or Kyrie eleison
And now, O Lord, I bend the knee of my heart,
and make my appeal, sure of your gracious goodness.
I have sinned, O Lord, I have sinned,
and I know my wickedness only too well.
Lord, have mercy or Kyrie eleison
Therefore I make this prayer to you:
Forgive me, Lord, forgive me.
Do not let me perish in my sin,
nor condemn me to the depths of the earth.
Lord, have mercy or Kyrie eleison
For you, O Lord, are the God of those who repent,
and in me you will show forth your goodness.
Unworthy as I am, you will save me,
in accordance with your great mercy,
and I will praise you ceaselessly, all the days of my life.
Lord, have mercy or Kyrie eleison

This is the feast of victory for our God!

Alleluia!
Christ our Passover has been sacrificed for us;
therefore let us keep the feast,
Not with the old leaven,
the leaven of malice and evil,
but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.
This is the feast of victory for our God!
Alleluia!
Christ being raised from the dead will never die again;
death no longer has dominion over him.
The death that he died, he died to sin, once for all;
but the life he lives, he lives to God.
So also consider yourselves dead to sin,
and alive to God in Jesus Christ our Lord.
This is the feast of victory for our God!
Alleluia!
Christ has been raised from the dead,
the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep.
For since by a man came death,
by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead.
For as in Adam all die,
so also in Christ shall all be made alive.
This is the feast of victory for our God!

Rite of
Reconciliation
17

Rite of Reconciliation
Reconciliation is available for all who desire it. It is not restricted to times of sickness. Confessions
may be heard anytime and anywhere.
The content of a confession is not normally a matter of subsequent discussion. The secrecy of a
confession is morally absolute for the confessor, and must under no circumstances be broken.

WELCOME

Penitent

X In the name of the Father,

and of the Son,
and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.

Priest
Penitent

Have mercy on me, O God, in your loving-kindness.

In your great compassion blot out my offenses.

Priest
Penitent

Wash me through and through from my wickedness.

Cleanse me from my sin.

Priest
Penitent

For I know my transgressions only too well.

My sin is ever before me.

Priest

CONFESSION OF SIN
The penitent may take a few quiet moments to prepare, after which the rite continues:

Penitent

Father _____,
pray for me to God,
for I am a sinner.

The priest offers a prayer for the penitent as he is led. The priest then says:

Priest

In the presence of Christ,

and of me, his priest,
confess your sins to Almighty God,
our Creator and our Redeemer,
for he is full of kindness and compassion
to those who repent and return to him..

Penitent

Holy God,
heavenly Father,
you formed me from dust in your image and likeness,
and redeemed me from sin and death
by the cross of your Son, Jesus Christ.
Through the water of baptism you clothed me
with the shining garment of his righteousness,
and established me as a child in your kingdom.
But I have squandered the inheritance of your saints,
and have wandered far in a land that is waste.

18

Today I come to this place

to confess to you and to your Church
the sins which most deeply grieve me
and impair my relationship with God
and with my brothers and sisters...
The penitent now confesses his or her particular sins.
When the penitent has concluded, he or she concludes their confession, saying:

Penitent

I today forsake these sins,

and all the sins I cannot now remember,
and I turn to you in sorrow and repentance.
Receive me again into the arms of your mercy,
and restore me to the blessed company
of your faithful people;
through him in whom you have redeemed the world, your
Son our Savior Jesus Christ.

The priest offers words of counsel and peace, and may engage the penitent in discussions aimed at
furthering their spiritual life.

RECOMMITMENT TO A CHRISTIAN LIFE

The priest then continues:

Do you today renew your commitment

to follow Jesus Christ?
By Gods grace, I do.
Do you today desire to do what is necessary

KNEEL or BOW DEEPLY

Silence is kept for a time of self-examination and reflection.

Assembly

Most merciful God,

we confess that we have sinned against you
in thought, word, and deed,
by what we have done
and by what we have failed to do.
We have not loved you with our whole heart,
and we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.
We are truly sorry,
and we humbly repent.
For the sake of your Son,
have mercy on us and forgive us,
and by the power of the Spirit
enable us to delight in your will
and walk in your ways
to the glory of your name.
Amen.

Christ is in our midst.

He is and ever shall be.

Let us share with one another a sign of Christs peace.

The ministers and people share an appropriate sign of peace.

EUCHARIST
SIT
The assistant goes to the altar and sets the table for the Eucharistic meal. He removes the Body and
Blood of Christ from the Tabernacle and places them upon the altar. During this time, a song may
be sung or silence may be kept for a time of reflection.
When the Eucharist has been prepared, the officiant stands before the altar and washes his hands.
When all is in readiness, the officiant may invite the assembly to gather around the altar.

STAND
Officiant

Brothers and sisters,

we have confessed our sins and failings,
but if we are to receive the Lords body and blood,
we must also be united
in the confession of the true faith.
Let us, therefore, with one mind and heart,
profess our Christian faith
in the words of the Apostles Creed.

Assembly

I believe in God,
the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ,
his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into Hades.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the flesh,
and the life everlasting.
Amen.

34

KNEEL
Officiant

We believe, O Lord,
and we will confess to our dying day
that this is the life-giving flesh
that your only-begotten Son took from the virgin Mary,
which he united with his divinity
without confusion or alteration;
that having bone true witness before Pontius Pilate,
he gave up his body on the Cross voluntarily for us;
that his divinity was never separated from his humanity
after their indissoluble union;
that this flesh is of his flesh
and this blood is of his blood.

The officiant stands and ascends to the altar as he joins with the assembly, saying:

Assembly

Receive me today, O Son of God,

as a communicant at your Mystical Supper,
for I will not reveal your Mysteries to your enemies,
neither will I give you a kiss as did Judas,
but like the thief I say:
Remember me, O Lord,
when you come into your kingdom!

Assistant

Beloved,
draw near in faith
and receive the Body and Blood of the Lord.

The officiant distributes the Body and Blood of Christ to the assembly.

Officiant
Communicant

Receive the Body and Blood of Christ.

Amen.

Assembly
