When the expansion of a liquid in a vessel is measured to obtain the coefficient of volume
expansion (), what is actually obtained is apparent coefficient of expansion. This is due to
expansion of container. The figure shown is an apparatus to find out correct coefficient of
expansion without knowing coefficient of expansion of the container. It consist a U-shaped tube
