TITLE?: Final Evaluation
This year has been a transformation of my skills not only as a writer and reader but as a
critical thinker in all arenas of life, not just literature. I honestly thought that the correct way to
write an essay was to introduce a topic by the topic with a generalized claim and transition into
the thesis, then explain the warrants, and then connect it to a new idea without leaving the
Audience in confusion and on edge. I have now realized that the point is not the to connect a
specific idea or thesis to larger claim. Deliberately, but to evaluate the argument and derive a
deep meaning that reveals the implications of the argument. I never realized the potential of
nonfiction to inspire and invite feeling and meaning in such a subtle and effective way. Through
writing essays to search for the grander scope of an argument and findings implications in pieces
from the Norton Reader, other reading sources, and Ben media such as Super Bowl commercial
and video montages, I have discovered the importance of the lives in a greater scheme of of
thinking. The purpose of these pieces allows me to consider the ideas of the author and apply
them to my scope of thinking.
Before walking into room A201 back in September, I was completely unaware of the
range that non-fiction covers. I knew that AP English Language and Composition studied
mainly non-fiction, and AP English Literature and Composition generally covered fiction. My
understanding of nonfiction only composed of factual information about a certain topic, such as

newspaper, journal, or study. I never thought about the stylistic manueverus and ethroctial
devices that are necssary to be an effective non-fiction writer. Every quality advertisement,
article, or literary piece has a great deal of planning to influence and persuade viewers in an
educated and effective manner. I know how to take in these sources, but not accept or reject
everything they put out there. Through analyzing the construction of arguments in a variety of
mediums, I now take every commercial or article or advertisement and analyze its argument. By
doing this, I take the arguments and formulate my own opinion on the subject to further my
understanding of it.
Through this course, I have a greater appreciation for writing that is not only written
stylistically or creatively but reveals an idea that invokes my brain to take a new perspective into
account to form educated opinions about topics. The possibility of writing to inspire people to
think for themselves is an essential tool to better the world. If people think logically about the
great influx of information that bombards them daily, they can craft their own opinions on
solutions to problems that challenge our society today. I am proud to say that I am one of those
people.
For this final exam grade, I believe that I deserve a 92% for the dedication and focus in
class each day. In class discussions I have learned to listen to other classmates and Mr. Laplante's
thoughts and respond in a sophisticated manner that furthers the discussion. My essays have
developed significantly from a piece that barely a conflict to pieces that probe the inner workings
of a variety of circumstances and their implications for future society. I always come appeared
with a knowledge of last nights reading and a will to learn each day. I genuinely enjoy the
construction of conclusions made about certain topics, even ones that I have previously shunned
in disgust or fear. My willing to put myself into the unknown world of probing discovering new

ideas and implications shows my growth and commitment to AP English Language and
Composition.
