1. Is Simon a good person?


No, he isnt. He is a selfish man only worried about money. He killed his twin brother
Patrick when he was a boy to inherit the Ashby fortune.
2. Why was Eleanor surprised that Brat had been out on Timber?
Because Eleanor knew that Timber had killed some men before. She told Brat that Timber
had killed old Felix but that it had been an accident and she bought him at the Lerridge Sale.

3. Why were Bee and Eleanor pleased that Mr Gates had bought Peggy a good horse?
Because Simon loved Peggy because she was a rich girl. However her father had bought for

6. Why did Brat take Timber to Clare Park?
Because Simon told him to take Timber for a walk. Simon wanted Timber to kill Brat
because he had already killed some men before.
7. Why was Brat sad when he saw Eleanor with Roger Clint?
Because he loved Eleanor and Ruth told him that Eleanor and Roger were lovers. Then he
discovered this was a joke by Ruth and they were just friends because Roger was expecting a
child from his wife.
8. Why did Brat put Chevron back just before the end of the race?
Because he wanted Roger Clint and his horse Stockings to believe Chevron was too tired .
So Stockings relaxed and at that moment Brat pushed Chevron to go as fast as possible
towards the finish and won the race.

Jane and Ruth were twins and they were near 10 years old. although their physical

work with horses and ride them. Ruth was always clean, well-dressed and with her hair tidy

Simon and Patrick were also twins. Patrick had died with 13 years old and Simon was going

was just interested in money. He was a selfish man and he had killed Patrick.
Eleanor was the oldest daughter. She also loved horse and teach people to ride.

Because he had no work as an actor and he knew every detail from the Ashbey family

saw that he was like Simon. So he invented a plan to make Brat Farrar inherit the Ashbey
fortune. He taught Brat to be Patrick and then they will share the fortune.

voice in his head told him not to abandon and go on being Patrick because he would become

case and now that Patrick had come back, the wanted to know everything. Mr Macallan

people came from the dead as Patrick did.

It was Patricks wooden horse that used to hang at the end of his bed when he was a child.
There was a joke about its parents. This was a proof Simon was doing to Brat and he didnt
understand how he could know that.

It was Simons horse. It was black with a white star on its head. It was beautilful but too
proud like Simon. He loved being admired but it was always watching its admirers.

punishment for killing Patrick.

George thought everything was a joke by Simon. Brat asked him if he could tell the truth or
not and the priest adviced him to do what he considered the right thing. George wouldnt tell
anything to anybody.

When Brat was trying to go down the quarry and look for Patricks body, Simon appeared
and tried to cut the rope. They had a fight and Simon tried to kill Brat with a knife. He hurt

Brat on his wrist. Then Brat held Simons ankle and then his two hands. Finally Simon fell
into the quarry and died.

They discovered he is a member of the Ashby family because Uncle Charles arrived and told
Bee he really looked like an Ashby. Then he remembered Walter Ashby, a far cousin, was
working at a farm and had sex with a girl. Then he left the farm without knowing she was
expecting a baby and then she left the baby in an orphanage because she wanted to be a
nurse. Then she died. The baby was Brat Farrar.
