NOUN PHRASES IN RELATIVE CLAUSES
Qu es una frase sustantiva?

Una frase sustantiva es tanto un pronombre o cualquier grupo

de palabras que pueden ser reemplazadas por un pronombre. Por
ejemplo, 'they', 'cars', y 'the cars' son frases sustantivas, pero 'car' es
slo un sustantivo.

Una frase sustantiva contiene un determinante (visible o no) y un

sustantivo.
Noun phrase + relative clause

1. Una frase sustantivada est integrada por un sustantivo ms una

clusula relativa. No es una oracin completa. Una clusula relativa
es una clusula dependiente que incluye un sujeto y un verbo que
modifica a un sustantivo. Este tipo de clusulas describen o aportan
informacin adicional sobre el sustantivo.

Argentina is + a country (that) I'd like to live in.

(Argentina es + un pas en el que me gustara vivir)

2. La frase sustantivada puede estar ubicada antes o despus del

verbo BE.

A country (that) I'd like to live in + is Argentina.

Argentina is + a country (that) I'd like to live in.

3. El pronombre relativo THAT puede incluirse u omitirse en este

tipo de oraciones con frases sustantivadas.

A country that I'd like to live in is Argentina.

A country I'd like to live in is Argentina.

Argentina is a country that I'd like to live in.

Argentina is a country I'd like to live in.

4. Con una clusula relativa referente a lugares, es posible usar el

adverbio WHERE. Sin embargo, ten presente que, en esos casos, la
preposicin (IN, TO, etc.) debe eliminarse.

Argentina is a country that I'd like to live in.

(Argentina es un pas en el que me gustara vivir)

Argentina is a country where I'd like to live. in

(Argentina es un pas donde me gustara vivir)

Argentina is a country that I'd like to go to.

adverbios), y sus objetos:

buy a house next month.

The structure of noun phrases
Como se dijo, las frases sustantivas pueden ser infinitas en longitud, pero
sonaran absurdas si se extendieran demasiado. De modo que tomemos
