My Family's Outing at Bukit Segar

A couple weeks ago, my family and I went for an outing to Bukit Segar
waterfall. The trip took us about an hour to reach our destination. It was a
pleasant journey as we saw endless layouts of breathtaking terrain along
the way.
The waterfall sparkled during that sultry day and the freshness of the air
made the place magical. The mesmerizing scene of the waterfall made my
siblings and I jumped into excitements as we changed into our swimming
trunks. We dived into the crystal clear water with haste. The chilly water
touched our nerves in a very serene way.
We were swimming and splashing water towards each other, laughter was
bursting through the refreshing air, while others were seen to be netting
some fishes. The overall experience was soothing to the ears and mind to
listen the flowing waterfall splashed the cool water beneath. The paradiselike place was not a miss for me to take pictures. So, we took a family
photo to keep the memorable day as a souvenir.
Our stomach began rumbling and roaring like a monster after some time
in the water. My mother then spread the mat on the ground and began
displaying food on it. She prepared many scrumptious delicacies for us to
grab a bite. My father also helped her with arranging the food. My little
brother and sister were the first to dig in. We finished the food as if we
were fasting the whole time. Everyone was satisfied thus we packed our
stuff and reached home before dusk.
The family outing at the waterfall was simply an example of how our
family members bond and loosen up during our free time. All of us should
keep a close-knitted relationship family because blood is thicker than
water. There are plenty other ways of achieving it such as cooking
together, cleaning the house together, visiting relatives who are close to
our hearts, or even going to the park for basking or going to the movies.
Therefore, healthy relationships among family can be accomplished for a
healthier emotional growth.

The annual monsoon season has arrived. This causes heavy

downpours in many areas.Last Friday night, there was a heavy
downpour in Kampung Jeram. It rained continuously that
night.Everyone was sound asleep and no one imagined what
would
happen
the
next
morning.
As soon as the villagers woke up in the early morning, they
were shocked to see the rising water surrounding them. The
flood has submerged the whole village. The villagers had
butterflies in their stomach when they could not find the way
out. They were trapped in the flood water. The villagers had
saved the important documents and some saved their
valuables.
The villagers quickly climbed up the roof and waited to be
rescued. They were afraid because the water was still rising. The
swift flood water swept away their belongings just in front of
their eyes. Some caring villagers lent a helping hand to the
other families and helped them to climb up the roofs. All of them
waited
until
the
arrival
of
the
rescue
teams.
Soon enough,a rescue boat arrived at the scene. The
villagers who saw the boat screamed for help. The boat can only
accommodate limited villagers. Some of the villagers were
saved and brought into the boat.Soon, another boat arrived and
picked up the remaining villagers. All of them were brought to
the community hall and stayed there for temporarily.
Flash flood has been happening during monsoon season at
low lying areas like Kampung Jeram. To prevent fatalities during
flash flood, precaution and early alerts should be given. The
flood relief centre have to give early warning siren so that
residents can prepare to be evacuated earlier. The news should
also provide regular weather updates during this season. The
flood relief centre should also give information on flood
evacuation
plans
to
these
residents.As
the
saying
goes,prevention is better than cure.

The Night Market

One of the most interesting places in Malaysia is the night market. You may visit and
experience the night market yourselves. Both locals and foreigners agree that the night
market is the most common feature in the local society.
The night market begins when the vendors arrive in the late afternoon. More and more
goods laden vans arrive to begin a brisk day of business. Most of the vendors busily set out
to set up their stalls respectively in order to get ready for a brisk day of business.
The sun gradually sets and the night market picks up momentum. More cars and vans are
arriving. By now, the stalls are neatly and strategically arranged to entice their customers.
There is an assortment of goods sold ranging from food, toys and clothes, to name a few. A
variety of goods is sold at low prices.
Large rainbow-coloured parasols are used to shade the people from rain and shine. A
concoction of blaring music can be heard in the night market background amidst the
constant shouting. It is an amazing kaleidoscope of sights, sounds, smells and colours.
The night market is known as a haven by local gourmets who can enjoy various kinds of
mouth-watering local cuisine. Still more people arrive, they come from all walks of life,
mingling freely and harmoniously. Crowds are walking up and down in an endless stream.
Some of them are stopping by the stalls and haggling before making purchases. Little
children tag along, amused and excited. Sprinklings of tourists join in to experience the
lifestyle of typical Malaysian folks.
When night falls, lighted lamps brighten up the place, they add gaiety to this atmosphere,
and it is like a funfair. The night wears on and the traffic of people recedes. Vendors get a
chance to rest their weary legs besides bantering with each other.
By 10.00 pm, all the stalls call it a day. The vendors pack up and close the van doors. One
by one, they leave, leaving behind pieces of papers, plastic bags and discarded boxes. It us
an eyesore! Finally, the night market disappears. The place becomes quite and still once
more.

A Camping Experience
I couldnt sleep the night before. I was just too excited. This was my first time on a camping
trip. I had packed my backpack 3 days ago. There was a list of things that were required
from everyone such as sleeping bags, torchlight, matches, Mars Energy Bars and not
forgetting mosquito repellents.

Around 8am the following day, we arrived in our school bus at the foothills of Gunung
Ledang which is famous for its many myths and also beautiful camping spots. There were 20
of us. We were all in our school scouts team accompanied by two teachers and our guide,
an Orang Asli man called Adun. First we went to register ourselves at the rangers office
before starting our hike.

It was a wonderful, cool morning. Adun pointed out to us various types of edible wild plants
and told us to 'respect the jungle' by not littering or thinking bad thoughts. 2 hours later we
reached a waterfall. It was a perfect spot to set up our tents. By the time we finished setting
up the tents, it was lunch time. Adun showed us how to gather firewood and lit up a fire. He
made a makeshift stand over the fire and hung a pot of icy water from the waterfall to boil.
While waiting to cook rice, our teachers said we could all go for a quick swim in the waterfall.
We had so much fun together! After a simple of rice and sardines, we rested for a while. In
the evening, our teachers took us exploring around the area and gather more firewood
before nightfall.

At night, after dinner, we lit a big fire and sat around it. Our teachers talked about jungle
survival tips and later we played games. Then Adun told us a few mystical stories about
Gunung Ledang. Some were scary and a few of us kept looking behind our backs at the dark
jungle. By 10pm our teachers asked us to go to sleep. Some of us couldnt sleep so ended
up chatting quietly in our tents till wee hours of the morning. We went home the next
morning, tired but happy.

Road accidents in Malaysia have been steadily increasing from

turned red. As a result they hit or get hit by vehicles coming
from the opposite side of the road. Next, talking on the phone
while driving is another cause of road accidents in Malaysia.
Road users prefer to hold the phone instead of using the handsfree set while driving. Their carelessness leads to accidents.

limit. Speeding causes them to lose control of their vehicle and
