Is university life different from school life? The answer is yes and no. As
far as I am concerned, university life and school life are the same: both
demand that students work hard. There are some differences, of course.
However, I prefer not to talk about similarities or differences. I suggest that
we talk about how to be a good university student. You do agree with me,
dont you? Many people believe that a good. student does not need to be
one who has very high intelligence. And I do agree with them. I see many
examples of students who are smart but who are not so successful in their
study. On the other hand, I see many examples of students who are not so
smart but who are quite successful. What are their secrets? I dont think that
there are such secrets. All this is commonsense.
First, plan well: quarterly, weekly, and daily. A task well planned is a
task half done. At the beginning of the semester, you will meet your
academic adviser. Before you meet this person, you must have in mind what
subjects you are going to take. So, you must know your curriculum well.
Then, make a weekly schedule. This schedule outlines the activities that you
will do during the week. You must set some objectives or targets. The daily
schedule follows it. Whenever you step out of your house or boarding. House,
you must set yourself a target. Today, I must get this and that, for example.
Finally, you must be consistent with your plans. For instance, if you plan to
study, then work. Force, if necessary. That is, you force yourself to study, as
planned.
Second, attend classes well. This may sound weird to you, but do
attend classes. Try not to miss even one. Of course you are given 25% of the
time to be absent, but dont use it. Unless you are physically unable to sit in
the classroom, dont be absent. Remember: Diligence is the mother of
accomplishment. Then, listen carefully to what your teacher says. Take some
notes, if necessary, but good listening is all you need. Take full participation
in the class activities such as asking questions, doing exercises, working in
groups, etc. Review the lessons at home. Before you take a nap, or do
something else, you must put aside about 10 to 15 minutes to review what
you studied in class. Group work is great, especially when you have home
assignment to do. You can never guess the advantages of working in groups.
Third, be resourceful. What the teacher tells you in class is just a very
small amount of the body of knowledge that you can find from various
sources. The teachers job is open the door: You must enter by yourself: Go
to the library and find books which give you more information. You must go
to the library everyday. You can also talk to people. Your teachers or senior

friends will only be glad to help you or, at least, show you where and how
you can get more material. If you have access to multimedia facilities, you
can use them. The Internet, for example, is a useful resource for you to get
material.
Fourth, know yourself. Ask yourself these questions: Do I like this
subject or that? Am I feeling happy, or unhappy, studying this subject? Am I
not very enthusiastic, am I feeling bored, or am I being distressed? You must
be familiar with these feelings. It is all right to feel unhappy or distressed
about something; but you must be aware of these feelings and try to
suppress them to the lowest possible level. Encourage yourself: I must be
able to make it when others can. If you find it hard to control your feelings,
go for help. You have your academic advisor with whom you can share your
feelings. Some universities provide psychological guidance and counseling
services where you can go to. Your friends are also a great source of help.
Last but not least, you can share your feelings with your parents or relatives.
Its a great feeling to have your problems talked out with others.
Fifth, pray. Man proposes, God disposes. Whatever comes out of your
endeavors, always thank God. There are times when you are successful and
times when you fail. Even when you fail, there is always something that is
good for you: Blessings in disguise. Every religion has its ways for one to
communicate with God. For the Moslems, for example, night prayers will give
you great consolation, support, and comfort.
There are many aspects to build to become a good student. No matter
how, a good start will yield success.

Apa rahasia mereka? Saya tidak berpikir
bahwa ada rahasia tersebut. Semua ini adalah akal sehat.
First, plan well: quarterly, weekly, and daily. A task well planned is a task half
done. At the beginning of the semester, you will meet your academic adviser. Before
you meet this person, you must have in mind what subjects you are going to take.
So, you must know your curriculum well. Then, make a weekly schedule. This
schedule outlines the activities that you will do during the week. You must set some
objectives or targets. The daily schedule follows it. Whenever you step out of your
house or boarding. House, you must set yourself a target. Today, I must get this and
that, for example. Finally, you must be consistent with your plans. For instance, if
you plan to study, then work. Force, if necessary. That is, you force yourself to
study, as planned.

Second, attend classes well. This may sound weird to you, but do attend
classes. Try not to miss even one. Of course you are given 25% of the time to be
absent, but dont use it. Unless you are physically unable to sit in the classroom,
dont be absent. Remember: Diligence is the mother of accomplishment. Then,
listen carefully to what your teacher says. Take some notes, if necessary, but good
listening is all you need. Take full participation in the class activities such as asking
questions, doing exercises, working in groups, etc. Review the lessons at home.
Before you take a nap, or do something else, you must put aside about 10 to 15
minutes to review what you studied in class. Group work is great, especially when
you have home assignment to do. You can never guess the advantages of working
in groups.
Kedua, menghadiri kelas dengan baik. Hal ini mungkin terdengar aneh bagi
Anda, tapi jangan menghadiri kelas.

Third, be resourceful. What the teacher tells you in class is just a very small
amount of the body of knowledge that you can find from various sources. The
teachers job is open the door: You must enter by yourself: Go to the library and find
books which give you more information. You must go to the library everyday. You
can also talk to people. Your teachers or senior friends will only be glad to help you
or, at least, show you where and how you can get more material. If you have access

to multimedia facilities, you can use them. The Internet, for example, is a useful
resource for you to get material.
Ketiga, menjadi akal.

Fourth, know yourself. Ask yourself these questions: Do I like this subject or
that? Am I feeling happy, or unhappy, studying this subject? Am I not very
enthusiastic, am I feeling bored, or am I being distressed? You must be familiar with
these feelings. It is all right to feel unhappy or distressed about something; but you
must be aware of these feelings and try to suppress them to the lowest possible
level. Encourage yourself: I must be able to make it when others can. If you find it
hard to control your feelings, go for help. You have your academic advisor with
whom you can share your feelings. Some universities provide psychological
guidance and counseling services where you can go to. Your friends are also a great
source of help. Last but not least, you can share your feelings with your parents or
relatives. Its a great feeling to have your problems talked out with others.
Keempat, mengenal diri sendiri.
berbagi perasaan Anda. Beberapa universitas memberikan bimbingan dan konseling
psikologis di mana Anda dapat pergi ke. Teman Anda juga merupakan sumber besar
bantuan. Last but not least, Anda dapat berbagi perasaan Anda dengan orang tua

Fifth, pray. Man proposes, God disposes. Whatever comes out of your
endeavors, always thank God. There are times when you are successful and times
when you fail. Even when you fail, there is always something that is good for you:
Blessings in disguise. Every religion has its ways for one to communicate with God.
For the Moslems, for example, night prayers will give you great consolation,
support, and comfort.
There are many aspects to build to become a good student. No matter how, a
good start will yield success.
Kelima, berdoa. Man mengusulkan, Tuhan yang menentukan.
