The Pearl city Hyderabad located in South India offers a rich cultural and historical
tradition. Hyderabad is one of the fastest growing cities in the world with a
population of over 12 million and more than a million visitors traveling annually
from all around the world. From the signature monument Charminar and the
incredible Golconda Fort to the vibrant bazaars that attract tourists, Hyderabad has
an incredible potential for Travel and Tourism industry. The city has been declared as
the Heritage City of India in 2012 by the Government of India.
The New York Times 2012 report stated that Hyderabad is a juxtaposition of old
and new unlike any other city in India ("The New York Times"). The city's glorious
architectural past is now evolving into a modern marvel. The Mercers Quality of
Living Report 2015 ranked Hyderabad as The best city in India offering high quality
of living standards (Hyderabad Best City to Live in India: Study - The Times of
India). Several parameters like public services, recreational facilities, social
environment and health issues were taken into consideration in this report. Many
historic and tourist sites lie in the heart of the city, such as Charminar , Mecca
Masjid, Salar Jung museum, Nizams museum and Falaknuma palace. The retail
markets comprise the Pearl Market, Madina Circle and Laad Bazaar. The city is
famous for its magnificent parks and lakes like Hussain Sagar and Osman Sagar.
Provision of adequate public transport services and availability of various modes of
transportation to travel to the city has made it one of the most popular destinations
in Asia. The provision for shopping and recreational facilities is widely available for
foreign travelers arriving to Hyderabad for both long and short distances due to the
availability of public transport services which meet the transport demands not only
for millions of tourists but also the increased number of urban dwellers.
The main mode of transportation is the Metro Rail system. Hyderabad joined the
National Metro Rail System recently and Railroads make it possible to commute to
any part of the city. The Hyderabad Metro is a new rapid transit system that has
been added to the existing public transport infrastructure. The railway system in
Hyderabad is one of the biggest in India, a service known as the Multi Modal
Transport System (MMTS). Around 84 MMTS trains travel around the city to various
destinations and to the best shopping centers in the city. The other common mode
of travel commonly used is the auto-rickshaws. These three wheeled mini-cars are
used widely for short and long distance travel. Although they are crowded, they are
economical and it is the fastest service to reach any part of the city. Taxi cars are
the next mode of transportation. Although self and chauffeur driven cars are
efficient and luxurious unlike railways and auto rickshaws, the possibility of
accidents is high. Hyderabad, just like Railway systems, also has a good local bus
system. Run by the APSRTC (Andhra Pradesh State Road Transportation
Corporation), buses in this city are all air-conditioned and well-equipped.
The Hyderabad Tourism Industry has invested in its international airport which offers
a good range of international flights. The amenities at the port of entry such as
