Director of CBCI CARD
Sister Nirmala Mulackal SCN, was warmly welcomed as the New Executive
Director of CBCI CARD. Sister comes with varied experience in the field of Health
Care service, especially to the rural poor. She holds B.Sc. (Hons) Degree in
Nursing from Raj Kumari Amrit Kaur College of Nursing, Delhi and Post Graduate
Diploma in Health Care Administration from St. Johns Medical College, Bangalore.
She has served as Sister tutor in Nazareth School of Nursing Mokama. Patna
and College of Nursing St. Johns Medical College Bangalore. Held positions as
Director of Community Heath Service, in Mokama, Community Health Center in
Bakhtiarpur, Nalanda District, Bihar and Health Center in Mandair, Jharkhand.
Vice Principal School of Nursing, Mokama, Director of Nursing service, and
Administrator of Nazareth Hospital Mokama are other positions held and service
rendered. Sister had been an active member of the Governing Board of CHABIJ,
BVHA and CHAI.
Updates
DC Review meeting on March 2016 at Ujjain
Three days of DC review meeting was held at Kripa training centre from
29th to 31st March 2016 in Ujjain. On the very first day of the event State TB
Officer Dr. Atul kharate along with Miss Moumita Biswas, State technical
consultant MP came over there and met with the staff of CBCI CARD. Dr. Atul
Kharate took a session on Burden of TB in India and RNTCP. He also touched on
possible areas where improvement is needed & how the Axshya project activities
could be utilize to fill these gaps. In the latter half of the day, Fr. Anthony took a
session on capacity building, management and team work, which was attended
by all the CBCI CARD team members along with the our Executive director Sr.
Prabha.
On the 2nd day evening a formal farewell was organized for Sr. Prabha Varghese,
the event is marked by the presence of Most Rev. Bishop Sebastian Vadakkal
(Bishop of Ujjain). In his memorable address, he appreciated the work done by
Sr. Prabha and also presented a memento. On the third day, and then the review
meeting was concluded.

At one hand, most of the TB patients are from margined community and
with poverty background and other hand, TB take at least Six to Eight months to
get cured due which, person may losses its 40-50 annual income. Keeping this in
mind, various vocational trainings were organized with objective to have skill
building of TB patients which may help them to have some income generating
activities. Poultry framing at Jabalpur (MP) in which thirty three patients were
trained, Candle, Agrbati and bindi training at Malda (WB), Balia, Varanasi, and
Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh in which more than Hundreds patients got trained
themselves were some of the efforts from CBCI Card.
Madarsa Intervention
In Uttar Pradesh we conducted Madarsa Intervention Activity in 8 District of CBCI
CARD, total 24 Madarsa were covered through the intervention. 10,873 people
were sensitized, 274were identified as TB Symptomatic, 228 SCT was done & 3
TB patients were identified through the madrasa Intervention. In Saharanpur
district we conducted 4 madarsa activities with the help of RNTCP and sensitized
6350 people. In Saharanpur district CMO, DTO, State ACSM Consultant & Union
State Consultant participated during the madrasa intervention; huge media
coverage was for this activity.
In Bijnor District we conducted 6 Madarsa activity, sensitized 2320 peoples
in madarsa, identified 93 Symptomatic patients, 44 SCT was done & 3 TB
patients are identified through madarsa. DTO Dr. Raj Kumar, Union State
Consultant Mr. Mudashir Ahmed, MOTC, & RNTCP staff attended the madras
activities of Axshya Project. Print media gave huge coverage of Madarsa
intervention activity.
Even today maximum part of Health care services in India is taken care by
private sector, this includes Doctors from different streams (includes AYUSH),
Paramedical staff, Private and other Charitable hospital and Labs . So when we
talk about TB Free India, role of Private sector became too important.
Sensitization and engagement of Qualified Private Practitioner (QPP), Private
Hospitals and Lab is one of measure component for urban site under Project
Axshya. Sensitization programme was organized with the support from District
Tuberculosis Units, Indian Medical Association, Lab Association, Jabalpur and
Ujjain. Measure topics such as Project Axshya, its objectives and components,
Standard guideline for treatment of TB in India and National tuberculosis
Programme in India along with notification of TB was covered. Theses training
were conducted in presence of Dr. Rishi Dabor, Chest Physician, Dr. Atul Kharate,
STO, ,Dr. M. Agarwal, CMHO, Dr. Dhiraj Dhawade, DTO Jabalpur,Dr. S. Tiwari,
RNTCP , Dr. Arti Julka, Prof. PUBMED, R.D. Gardi Medical College, Ujjain along
Sister Nirmala, Abhilesh Thomas, Deepak Tigga, Lawrence Raibole, Dr. Vishal
Dessai , CBCI Card members.
Vinet Tandiya and Manish Jatwa, Urban
coordinators, played major role at the back stage for the event.
