Dear Prospective student,
Congratulations on your acceptance/provisional acceptance to the Baccalaureate Technologiae Nursing
program for the 2017 Academic year, contained in this letter is important information with regard to
requirements that need to be met before you commence the course.

General
The following information is important:

All provisionally accepted candidates must verify their senior certificate results with the Head of Campus
or delegated authority as soon as the results are published. Prospective candidates must meet the
minimum requirements to be accepted on the programme. This process must be finalised before or on
the 6th of January 2017 (Please fax or email)

All Accepted (Selected) candidates must report to the Campus on the 11th of January 2017 at 08:30
(Rainier Street. Worcester)

Uniform does not have to be worn but please be smart casual dressed.

Your parents are welcome to accompany you on the 11th of January 2017 to attend the welcome
session by Head of Campus/HOD at 08:30

Please provide your own stationary.

ADMINISTRATION DOCUMENTS
Please provide us with the following documents on the 11th of January 2017:

5 X copies of ID Document

5 X copies of matric certificate

5 X ID Photos preferable colour

SANC Registration Fees


As a Nursing student, you are required to be registered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a
student. You need to ensure that on the 11 January 2017 you have R230.00 with you, the SANC fees for
registration as a student are R220.00 and there is a R10.00 administration fee. Unfortunately, should you be
unable to pay the SANC registration fees on the day of commencement, your place on the course will be
forfeited.

Hepatitis B Vaccination
Prior to commencing the course, you are required to be immunised with the Hepatitis B Vaccine. This is for
your own protection. The initial vaccine must be given prior to commencing the course; you therefore need to
make arrangements with either a Government Health care Clinic or a Pharmacy that offers this service,
(Clicks, Dischem, M-Chem). You will need to complete the course of 3 vaccines to obtain full protection.
You are required to verify the following information on commencement of the course:

Your name and ID number


Date of the vaccination
Which arm was injected
The name of the person who did the vaccination
The batch number of the vaccine

You are then required to obtain the next two vaccines within the indicated time and at your own cost.

Dress Code (Uniform)


Student nurses are required to wear a uniform during Clinical practice; it is advisable to have at least three
(3) uniforms available and appropriate shoes. During your training, you will be placed at the Hospital, Clinics
and other Health care facilities; you will need to be in full uniform for these placements. You also attend
sessions in the Simulation Laboratory and will be required to wear uniform for these sessions. It is essential
that you have these uniforms before your training begins.
The uniform is as follows:
FEMALES

White Nurses top

Long navy blue pants / skirt

Navy blue jersey / cardigan

Shoes black / navy closed shoe in winter, sandal with back straps in summer (low heel)

MALES

White Nurses top

Long navy blue pants

Navy blue jersey / cardigan

Shoes black / navy closed shoe in winter, sandal with back straps in summer (low heel)

Attached please find recommended suppliers of Nurses uniforms.

Distinguishing devices (epaulettes)


You need to purchase your own distinguishing devices; these will be available at the Campus at a cost of
R50.00 per pair.

Equipment needed for Clinical Practice


There is equipment that will be necessary for you to perform your duties as a student nurse. You will need to
ensure that you have purchased this equipment before commencing your training.

Prescribed Books
You need to purchase your own prescribed books; you will not be able to meet the academic requirements of
the course without these books.
Attached please find a list of the prescribed books and a choice of recommended suppliers.

Student Accommodation
Students living further that a 50 km radius from Campus can apply to be accommodated in dedicated
residences or can arrange their own private accommodation. Students will be billed for dedicated CPUT
residences, see CPUT website for more information.
The following is important for students living in residences:
-

Bring your own Bedding, Cutlery, utensils, coffee mug & Iron

An R100.00 deposit will be required to obtain the key/access card for your room

Two small Padlocks to lock your cupboard and one big Padlock to lock your bedroom door

Residential rules will be signed the week of the 11th of January 2017

There is a communal kitchenette for student use, equipped with a microwave, refrigerator and kettle. Please
bring any personal items that would make you feel at home such as additional pillows etc. Please note that
all students will be expected to share rooms.

Bursary Application
Although we encourage all selected applicants to apply for both the Department of Health Bursary and for
NSFAS funding, no guarantee can be given that funding will be granted. The Campus is not involved in the
process of awarding bursaries and other funding, there are limited bursaries available.
Application for both NSFAS funding and bursaries must be done on line on the CPUT website and
Department of Health website respectively.
