Mr. /Ms. Officer:

My name is Yilong Wang, a new international graduate student. I am 25-year-old Chinese

boy. Mechanical engineering (ME) is my graduate major, and also ME is my undergraduate
major. I am applying to UICs Office of International Services for a $5,000 Graduate Student
Scholarship. I have several reasons to state.

When I was a boy in primary school, I used love to play with mini four-wheel drive (4WD).
At that time, most of Chinese primary students were big fan of mini 4WD, of course, I was
crazy too. The mini 4WD were sale as several separate parts, so I had to build it up. The very
first time I got this mine 4WD as a birthday gift from my parents. I did not know how exactly
to build it up, but I did know to follow the synopsis. One step after another, an awesome
mini 4WD was finally showing up. I cannot even remember how fascinating it was.

One year after another. After the college entrance examination in 2011, I got a chance to
choose my major, without hesitating, I choose ME. Until then, I did not even choose ME as
future discipline. Since 05/2013, I have been participating in Mechanical Innovation
Competition, Beijing, 2013 National Innovation and Entrepreneurship Project, Beijing and
Scientific Research Project, Undergraduate 2014, Beijing where I was promoted as the main
member and in charge of parts processing and assembly in cardboard transmission type liquid
pressurized die-cutting machine, the security guards design of die cutting machine

experimental base and design and assembly section demonstrates institutions by utilization
Multifunctional Planar Mechanism Demonstrator. During these periods, I increased my
hands-on ability more. My involvement in machinery business has exposed me to such a
diversity of high-tech and sophisticated equipment that I am made painfully aware of the
deficiencies in my existing knowledge. Under such circumstance, I would like to seek
advanced education and also I wanted to be mechanical engineer in the future.

As a new international graduate student, my first goal is to adapt American life and get all my
classes pass. I never got chance to experience real American style class, so I will try my best
to communicate with professors and classmates. Even though China and America have quit
different education system, I am pretty sure I can take it. I am planning to apply doctor degree
after I finish my graduate program, under this considering, I have to toil 2 years or even
more.

As a modern student, I not only have toil as special character, but also have team spirit,
courage and patient. Team spirit, because I used to be vice president of students union and
vice-captain of college volleyball team. I have successfully organized several big student
galas and leaded our team won first prize of Beijing college student volleyball league.
Courage, I travelled long journey to this completely unfamiliar country and start a brand new
life. Patient, I have continued running 2 or 3 days a time for 6 years. I am a multi-ability
student. I can even do better.
