1. OpenWeaveandaccessdata

Fromthemainscreen,youcanchoosetoloaddataorreloadapreviouslysavedWeave
session.WewillbeginbyloadingdatatobuildanewWeavesession.Clickonthe
LoadData
icon.ThisopenstheDataSourceswindowandhighlightstheDataSourcestabatthebottomof
thescreen.

Onthelowerleftportionofthescreen,youwillseealistofdatasourcetypes.Inthissessionwe
willusedatafromfiveseparatecsvfiles..Clickon

YounowneedtoenterinformationabouttheKeycolumnandKeynamespace.Theseareused
toconnecttheindividualcsvdatatablesandanyotherdata,suchasshapefiles,thatwillbe
usedinthesameWeavesession.

TheKeycolumnisacolumninthedatatablethatcontainsunique(noduplicate)valuesandis
thesameineachofthedatatablesthatyouplantouse.Thiscolumnservesastheoverlapor
keywhichconnectsallofthedatatables.Anexamplemightbeacolumnofstatesinthe
UnitedStates.However,sincethetitleofthiscolumnmaynotbethesameineachtable
(States,USStates,etc),weusetheKeycolumnentryareatotellWeavethetitleofthe
columnthatwillbeusedastheKeycolumn.Inthiscase,theKeycolumnisastandard3digit

2. Createavisualization

Thechartcontrolpanelappearsautomaticallyontheleftsideoftheworkspacewheneveranew
chartisselectedorwheneverthegearicon(ontheupperleftofeachcharttitlebar)isselected.
Thecontrolpanelisusedtosetlabeling,colorcoding,axistitles,andothercontrolsand
attributesforeachchart.

TheBarChartdisplayedintheworkspacehasbeenprepopulatedwithattributes.Wewilluse
theBarChartControlPaneltoadjusttheattributes.

A. BarChart

Inthiscase,eachbarinthebarchartwillrepresentacountryandtheheightofthebarwill
representthepopulationwithinthatcountrythatplanstouseaparticulartechniquetocutback
onconsumerspending.Wewillsortthebarsbycountry,andcolorthembythepercentageof
thepopulationthathasaccesstotheinternet.

shapefilescanusuallybedownloadedfromtheinternetanduseddirectlyfromyourdesktop.In

4. Customizethelayout

TochangethelayoutofyourWeavesession,youcanmoveandresizeeachchart.Eachchart
hasatitlebarthatdarkenswhenthecursorhoversoverthatvisualization.Torepositionachart,
hoveroveritstitlebaruntilthecursorchangestocrossedarrows.

Whenthecrossedarrowscursorappears,clickanddragthecharttothenewlocation.Asthe
cursormovestothenewlocation,theareawherethechartwilllandisindicatedbyadarkgrey
box.Ifanentirechartiscoveredingrey,thetwochartswillswitchpositions.

Toadjustthesizeofachart,hoverthemouseoveroneofitsbordersuntiltheparallelline
cursorappears.Thenclickanddragtoadjustthesize.

4. Saveandrestorework

TosavetheWeavesessionforlaterwork,select
Weave
fromthemainmenu.Fromhereyou
canchoosetosaveyoursessiontotheserverortothedownloadfolderonyourcomputer.We
willsavethissessiononthecomputer.Fromthedropdownmenuselect
Savesessionas...
Theexportsessionstateboxwillappear.Enteraname,inthiscasewewillenter
ConsumerConfidence
