Hillary Clinton

New York

Democrat

Former Senator and

Secretary of State
2009 2013

Issues:
Immigration: Hillary Clinton wants to make the pathway to citizenship one that is fair and
also possible. She wants to put immigration reform in place that will allow immigrants to achieve
citizenship. Clinton also wants to end family detention and close all private immigrant detention
centers. Hillary believes that all should have an equal chance to gain citizenship and be able to
tell their stories. She wants every family to feel like they have a chance in the great country that
we live in. As the president, Clinton wants to provide hope and help for all immigrants who
come to America to seek better opportunities.

Abortion: Hillary Clinton believes womens health decisions should be made by them and not
by the government. She plans to stand with planned parenthood and keep funding it to allow
cancer screenings, contraception, and safe abortions. Clinton also will defend the Affordable
Care Act which allows women access to preventative care. In all of her jobs in government, she
has been an advocate for womens rights across the globe.

Economy: Hillary plans to raise American incomes. She believes that American families
should be able to get ahead with how hard they are working. She also believes that college
should be more affordable so youth do not have to go in to spiraling debt just to get an education.
If elected, she plans to create a new college compact so that students will not have to pay for
tuition to a public institution in their state. Hillary also plans to create tax relief for families who
cannot afford to pay higher taxes and also to close tax loopholes that corporations use to get a tax
break.

Health Care: Hillary Clinton is a defender of the Affordable Health Care Act. She believes
that every single American should have access to basic healthcare. She wants to stop the rising
cost of pharmaceuticals and make them more affordable for the people who need them. She
wants to expand this affordable health care to cover immigrants, regardless of immigration
status, and also to women who need reproductive and contraceptive care.

Equal Rights: She wants to end the era mass incarceration. She also wants to strengthen the
bond between the community and the police. Clinton believes that all people, regardless of
economic or racial standing, should be afforded the same opportunities in America. She vows to
help make sure that everyone is given the same educational opportunities. Hillary is also an
advocate for LGBT equality and same-sex marriage.

There have been many Democratic debates between Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton.
They are the main candidates for the Democratic nomination. They have debated heavily on
many of the issues that Americans are particularly concerned about. Some issues include
education, capitalism, the middle east, and support for Obama. In October of 2015, Clinton and
Sanders went head to head in the first Democratic Debate for the 2016 Presidential election. The
Wall Street Journal said in an article published shortly after this debate, Hillary Clinton
dominated the first Democratic presidential debate Tuesdayshowcasing her sharp rhetorical
skills and broad policy expertise over her four less-experienced rivals,. Clinton was able to
speak about policies that she knows about and has had a lot of experience with. She has had a
very long and dense political career as former First Lady, Senator, and Secretary of State. Hillary
knows what shes talking about, and shes been able to show the American people that.
Hillary Clinton has not had very many television ads, but her big one is Family Strong.
She is trying to show that she cares for children and families in this ad. Clinton talks about how
she has been an advocate for children all throughout her career. One of her big stances, is
keeping families together no matter what. She ties this to immigration and her plans to get rid of
private immigration detention centers. Clinton says, When the family is strong, America is
strong. in the video. Clinton is comparing the family to America and showing the relationship
between how she advocated for families and how she will advocate for America.
With this election, immigration is a big topic of concern. Donald Trump has made his
stance on the issue of immigration very well known. Hillary Clinton has also decided to make
her position known as well. She wants to make the pathway to citizenship a more attainable one.
Clinton understands that immigrants are just looking to better themselves in our great country,
and she wants this to become a reality for them. As a result, Clinton wants to provide support and
assistance for those who are looking to become American citizens and she also believes that they
should have access to basic and affordable health care, like every other American.

Swing States
Iowa is the very first Presidential Caucus and the candidates try to appeal heavily to the voters
here because most are not affiliated with either the Democratic or Republican party. For the past
10 Presidential elections, Iowa has voted Republican 4 times and Democratic 6 times. In the
2000 and the 2004 elections, there was less than a 1 percent difference in the votes for the
Republican candidate and the Democratic candidate. Even though this state does lean
Democratic, they were known for voting Republican prior to 1988. Hillary Clinton and Ted Cruz
won the caucuses in Iowa this year. Iowa has voted Democratic since 1988 with the exception of
2004. It is predicted that they will also vote Democratic again this year.
Nevada is considered a swing state because the demographic has been changing. There has been
a 34% decrease in non-Hispanic White voters since 1970. Minorities in Nevada have also been
voting a lot more. In fact, 26.5% of the population are Hispanic. Another factor that plays into
Nevada being a swing state is that their Governor, Brian Sandoval, is Hispanic. He is the first
Hispanic Governor that Nevada has ever had and to go along with that, he is also a Republican.
Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump both won the caucuses for Nevada. For this election, it is
predicted that they will vote Democratic again as they have the past 2 elections. Between Trump
and Clinton, Hispanics will be more likely to vote for Clinton considering how Trump feels
about Hispanics. The Hispanic vote is one that is very important, especially in a state that has an
ever increasing Hispanic population.
