3. DESIGN PHILOSOPHY AND APPROACH

The 6.0 M roof top pole is made of pipe sections, supported by two stays placed 90 apart. The stays are
connected to the pole through single bolt connection on either end and are designed for compression and
tension forces. Main pole and the stays are connected to the building top through base plate and anchor bolt
arrangement. All the antennas are mounted on the top 2m of the main pole through angular supports projected
from the pole to form a circular pattern.
The entire structure is analyzed using PLS Pole software, the loadings considered as below:
1. Self-weight of main pole, braces and the equipment etc...
2. Wind loading on main pole, braces
3. Wind loading on all the equipment.
The main pole and the stays are designed for the maximum forces computed from the analysis for normal and
diagonal wind directions. The details are in the sections to follow.

DESIGN OF HILTI BOLTS FOR STAYS AND MAIN POLE:

Diameter of Hilti bolts being used = 16mm
No of bolts = 4
As per the attached catalog the tension capacity of 1 number of HILTI HIT-HY 200 bolt = 29.9 kN
Total tension capacity of bolts = 29.9*4 = 119.6 kN
Maximum factored tension force in the stays = 43.93 kN
Maximum factored tension force in the pole = 43.99 kN

Thus the proposed arrangement is safe in tension.

Note: The anchoring length and the helix (thread) length to be as per the catalog.
