How do the literary texts and art form reflect the current situation of our society?

In the stories Alkansya and A Day In The Lives Of Coal Miners, they all show that they are related in real life in different
scenarios or instances. One instance of that would be the perspective, opinion, reaction and anything in between of
society in the different problems it faces in times of today, specifically on the hazardous jobs such as mining. Mining,
illegal or not, has been part of the Philippine's economic growth for a long time, revealing how rich in resources this
country has. Yet it lacks to understand about the grave effects it has to people who are unprepared in jobs like those. The
story A Day In The Lives of Coal Miners depicts the effects on one such job when it was said that two young men died due
to toxic gas, or "Bad Air", as Raymundo prefer to say.
If looked in a deeper perspective, both stories show that people are willing to sacrifice anything to ensure their family's
survival, even disregarding their own life and safety in the process. This is clearly stated in the story A Day In The Lives of
Coal Miners when it was said that the miners were generally aware of dangers in their own mining pits, some of which are
toxic gas, coal fire and pit flooding. It is also shown in the final part of the story Alkansya wherein the grandmother was
just waiting for her son for a month to come home from mining., unaware if he even survives the job. This is just explains
the effects of poverty in our society today, desperate times call for desperate actions in the eyes of a poor person. In our
society today, every necessity has a price that you need to work hard to pay with. If you don't have the money, you don't
get the necessity, as simple as that.
If A Day In The Lives of Coal Miners talks about the effects of hazardous jobs such as mining in the physical body,
Alkansya shows the effects of these kinds of job to the worker's relationship with his or her family or friends. In the story
the grandmother goes home from Sugbu bringing with her the image of Sto, Nio and a coin container with the image of
Buda, everyday for a month she either prays to the image or simply placing coins in the container. She did all of these
while waiting for her son from mining. This just shows how desperate the grandmother was just to see his son again to
the point that she did all those things. Just like in real life, family members will do anything to ensure the safety of their
"breadwinner" because he or she is their only hope in surviving in their everyday life.
