ProgramDescription
We'veheardthetermglobalbusinessoftenenough,andknowhowimportantcrossculturalcommunicationis.Findoutwhatthat
meanswhenmanydifferentcountriestrytooperateasasingleunit.ExamineWrittenCommunicationsinBusinessinBrussels,
theunofficialcapitaloftheEuropeanUnion,andmeetrepresentativesfromvariousnations,aswellasAmericanexpatriates.
Learnaboutpopularcultureandhistorythroughreadingthegraphicnovelsofaregionthathasalongtraditioninthegenre.
France,Belgium,andHollandhavethemeparks,museums,andcitytoursdevotedtothegraphicnovel.Visitthesecentersand
learnaboutthepeoplewhoexaminetheseriousandthecomicinlifethroughthisnontraditional,seeminglyplayfulliterarygenre.
TheProgramFeecoversmorethanhalfofthemeals,aswellasallinternaltransportationincities,andfromBelgiumtoFrance
andtheNetherlandsaswellasinternationalmedicalinsurance.
TheProgramFeedoesNOTincludeairfareorgroundtransportationtomeetthegroupinBrussels.Theprogram

officiallybeginswhenstudentsarriveinBrussels.Studentswillreceivedetailedtravelinstructionsafteracceptance,explaining
howandwheretopurchasetheirplaneticket.SeetheCostsectionbelowforestimateairfare.Forthisprogram,studentswillbe
givenrecommendedflightitinerariesfortravelingtogether.

ProgramCourses
Studentsmustenrollinallcoursesforcreditandagrade;pass/failandauditregistrationisnotpermitted.Pleaserefertothe

ENGL312:WrittenCommunicationsinBusiness(3credits)
Examinestheroleofwrittencommunicationininternationalcorporatedecisionmaking.Studentswritememos,letters,
proposalsandreportsthatsimulateonthejobcommunicationtasks,andareencouragedtousematerialsfromtheirfieldsof
specialization.
Prerequisite:ENGL110orequivalentcourseorpermissionofinstructor.
Satisfiesthefollowingrequirements:SecondWriting.

ENGL365:StudiesinLiteraryGenres,TypesandMovements:TheGraphicNovel(3credits)
Thiscoursewillexaminethegraphicnovelasaliterarygenre.Wewillgobeyondourperceptionofcomicbooksas
narrativesoftheactionsofsuperheroes,orofthelivesofcartoonteensandpipesmokingsailors.Forthedurationofour
travelsinBelgium,France,andtheNetherlands,wewillexaminethegraphicnovelofthesecountrieswheretheyhavelong
beenanimportantliterarytradition.Graphicnovels,orcomicsareanimportantformofliteratureinFranceandBelgium,
whichcountrieshavealongtraditionincomicsandcomicbooks.Thiscoursewillfocusonthegraphicnovelascultural
productandpractice,andexplorethewaysinwhichmeaningsemergeinseveralcelebratedtextsofthegraphicnovelgenre.

theU.S.departureairport.Forplanningpurposesonly,weestimateroundtripairfaretobeapproximately$1,300.00.
WhenandhowdoIpay?
Ifyouareofferedacceptancetotheprogram,youwillhave3daystowithdrawwithoutfinancialpenalty.Afterthe3days
havepassed,youwillbeofficiallyacceptedtotheprogram,andIGSwillpostthefullProgramFeeandTuition/Feestoyour
UDstudentaccount.
Aninitialpaymentof$1000.00willbedueinmidDecember.
ThebalanceoftheProgramFeeandTuition/FeeswillbedueinearlyJune.
PaymentsaresubmittedthroughMyFinancesinUDSIS.
Allcharges,oncepostedtoyouraccount,areconsiderednonrefundable.
