1) (a)
Procedures: Measure the room temperature in polystyrene cup water by
thermometer. Place the bronze sphere inside the water bath for 5 mins, then
take it out and dry the surface by a towel. Then immediately put the sphere into
the polystyrene cup. Stir it gently by a stirrer and measure the highest
temperature T of the cup.
Precaution: 1. Wear gloves and safety goggles to protect the hands and eyes.
2. Avoid the thermometer from touching the hot sphere (prevent
thermometer from breaking)
Equation: 0.8! (80 ) = 0.54200( ! )
1) (b)
There is heat lost to the surrounding such that the temperature of the bronze
sphere before inserting into the cup is less than 80o. The final measured
temperature is lower than the theoretical one.

4)(a)
A downward force is acted on the injecting water by jetpack such that it deflects
as the momentum of water changes. By Newtons third law, there is a upward
reaction force on jetpack by water.

(ii) The resistance of voltmeter is comparable to that of the resistor across it. The
equivalent resistance is significantly lower than that of the resistor. The potential
difference across it is significantly less than that when there is no voltmeter.
Hence, the voltmeter chosen should have resistance much larger than that of the
resistor.
