Interests:

I work well in managing large groups and motivating my

members; but I am also good at following instructions from
the tasked leader and having initiative throughout the
process. I am experienced at taking leadership positions,
and can work well individually or in groups. I am also well
versed in spatial and historical knowledge of the Ateneo, and
am also very familiar with its administrative processes.
I enjoy baking and cooking for my friends and family. I also
enjoy doing arts and crafts, and watercolor painting. I am
also interested in theatre and the performing arts.

With the ratification of the constitution, the Sanggunian is in the stage wherein it is called
to reevaluate
its role in the Ateneo community. Coming from the Transitory Government, I as

its coordinator have experienced first-hand the direction towards which the Ateneo as an

institution
is moving, and I believe we must move towards the same current.

With this, I envision a Sanggunian that takes its primary role in the threading together
of the
Ateneo community through fighting for meaningful, current, and relevant advocacies and
assertions within and outside Ateneo, and through the engagement, representation, and

empowerment
of its students.

Forwarding meaningful, current, and relevant advocacies and assertions within

and outside Ateneo
Maximization of the 2016 Constitution
1.
Aggressively seek sectors to diversify and enrich the multi-dimensionality of

opinion during policy making

Aggressively seek and empower, through funding and support, the different
advocacies rising forth, and making them into a task force, under the office of

the President

2. Engagement with the National Administration

The Sanggunian will stand by the proper exercise of democracy, and respect for

human rights. The Sanggunian will likewise stand against impunity, especially
in the justice sector. The Sanggunian will hold the national government to the

highest of standards for democracy and freedom

i. Political formation Actively equip the students and give them the
necessary skills to frame their understanding of the current events

ii. Together with the whole Ateneo community, we will engage in critical

analysis, discourse with the national administration, and eventually
forward recommendations regarding areas of concern for the nation, such

as Agrarian Reform, Health, Science and Technology, Labor, Corruption,

Transport, Environment, and Transparency

3. Co-establishment of a singular multi-sectoral task force

In partnership with the Office of Social Concern and Involvement and Vice
President for Social Development, this task force will compose of students,

admin, faculty, and staff strategically moving towards national development, and
answering to the Atenean advocacy

Representation, engagement, and empowerment of the students

2. Capacity-building of the Sanggunian

Ideal-Sanggunian-Officer
i. A student with good spatial and historical knowledge of Ateneo, familiar with

its internal processes. A student able to diplomatically represent

himself/herself, and his/her constituency to his/her department chair (for
course representative), school dean (for course rep & school rep), and

school committee (for administration committee). An officer with a

competency with data gathering, data processing, and data interpretation for
lobbying towards the Ateneo admin. An officer with ample knowledge of local

and international events, capable of interpreting and analyzing, producing
recommendations, and lobbying for resolutions. An officer invested in the co
formation of his/her co-student towards becoming the ideal Atenean

graduate
ii. To be accomplished through the production of a curriculum for officers to

undergo
4. Lowering of general student fees
Financial transparency, and review of the different LS office expenditures in order

to lower the price of student fees that are not fully utilized
5. The presidential cabinet
All departments under the transitory government will be retained, with the addition

of a Department of Research and Statistics (deployable group in surveying the
Atenean pulse regarding concerns within the university, and its political agenda),

and Department for Special Projects (non-policy based, deployable group in

creating projects catered towards the development of the Sanggunian)

The Sanggunian will be completely student-powered; the students will be at the center of it
all. Together,
we will all take part in a Sanggunian that fights for what matters.

I am Carmela Vinzon, running to be your Sanggunian President, and Im here with you to
fight for what matters.

Legal Database
Objective: Establish a viewer-friendly database of past legislation filed by the Sanggunian.
The main point of this is not to set out on an exhaustive knowledge management
endeavor that goes back to the Sanggunians infancy, as these pieces of legislation apply to a
context that is no longer valid. Rather, the goal is to properly and sufficiently communicate the
Sanggunians past legislative actions.
While the Sanggunian Facebook Page and the Sanggunian Scribd are currently being
used for purposes of communication and knowledge management (respectively), neither are
a proper database that is conducive for browsing. In strict terms of functionality, the former is
a social media site, while the latter is an online reader. One should ideally be able to tell at a
glance what the document pertains to, what constituency it concerns, when it was filed, and
other pertinent details.
The target audience of this platform point is the student body at large, as well as elected
Sanggunian officers. The former would be able to stay better-informed of their rights and the
legislation that is being crafted on their behalf, while the latter would be less disposed towards
accidental redundancies (or even contradictions) in crafting laws and stands.
Plan of Action
1.
Comb Scribd for all uploaded pieces of legislature and mark for re-uploading,
2.
Research better platforms/communication strategies (while retaining previous modes of
communication),
3.
Re-upload and re-communicate.
In the future, the Database may even be used to foster transparency on other matters as well,
such as Sanggunian processes, the Constitution, and the Magna Carta.
Strengthening Representation
Objective: Provide a support system for representatives to University administration and
increase student involvement in administrative affairs
Representation to the administration is arguably the Sanggunians most crucial function.
It negotiates on behalf of the students, protecting their welfare, upholding their rights, and
ensuring that their interests are taken into account in making decisions of any kind and at any
level.
It therefore stands to reason that the representatives to the administration must be
sufficiently prepared and given the proper tools to carry out this task. It also stands to reason
that the systems for representation, at least the side that the Sanggunian is able to control,
must be properly oriented towards this end.
Only once student representatives are given the proper framework can negotiations be
carried out with administration to allow for more proactive participation in these committees.

carried out with administration to allow for more proactive participation in these committees.
Representatives who are adequately prepared and have the needed support systems make a
better the case for students to be given more of a voice in committee meetings by
administration.
Plan of Action:
5.
Orient and prepare potential administrative committee representatives for the roles that
they will undertake in their committees through a seminar after elections.
6.
Negotiate for more proactive roles and more observer seats for student representatives.
7.
Utilize the Committee Report system to ensure transparency of what transpires during
administrative committee meetings.
8.
Achieve representation and student involvement on more decision-making bodies.
Proactive Legislation
Objective: to create an environment that will foster the creation of better legislation.
The Vice President is meant to chair the Central Assembly, whose main task is
legislation. While this certainly does entail, for the most part, a facilitative aspect, the Vice
President must also exercise a certain capacity to set the agenda for legislation. This is not to
say that the position should be used strong-arm the agenda and preclude certain issues from
discussion: rather, legislature that is well-researched and backed up by data shall be
prioritized.
Furthermore, the Vice Presidency is a new position, created during the 2016 ADMU LS
Constitutional Convention. The opportunity should be taken to lay down communication
protocols in order to involve as many students as possible in the legislative process, and to
make proceedings as transparent as possible.
Plan of Action
4.
Establish routine meetings between the Central Assembly and the School Assemblies.
5.
Require Representatives to have consultations with their constituencies on a regular
basis.
6.
Create more opportunities for students to involve themselves in meetings at both levels
and encourage their participation.

1. Education
- Pass a resolution to mandate Curriculum Review across the board for all courses.
This may involve the creation of a working team composed of course

representatives and other students, with applications open to the general student

body. Changes to our core curriculum in light of K-12 necessitate critical

examination of our own courses. The inclusion of representatives in the
consultative and deliberative process of curriculum review must be sought in order

to ensure a curriculum that will be best for the students.
- Create a Committee on Student Formation that will engage admin offices such
as the Associate Dean for Student Formation and the Office of Social Concern and

Involvement. This is for the improvement of the formation services that students go

through, with a focus on fostering interdisciplinarity and discipline-based formation

programs oriented towards social change and development.
- Coordinate with the Department of Research and Statistics to gain data to improve
policy-making and lobbying on the level of representatives.

2. Efforts Towards Transparency
- Create a Committee on Fiscal Affairs that will lobby for financial transparency to

the administration and coordinate efforts regarding university-wide budget. This will

also help streamline the system for Sanggunian officers involved in School
Committees (i.e. Budget Committee, etc.).

3. Engagement and Externalization
- Create a Committee for Socio-Political Engagement that is mandated to
conduct research, lobby for policy changes, and mobilize the student body to take

proactive action with regard to the Philippine socio-political climate that were

facing today. This committee shall not be limited to the creation of stands, but will
also focus on the overall mobilization and engagement of students in relevant

social issues that we are facing today.

- Create an Office of Legal Aid composed of elected officers mandated to assist
students with disciplinary cases and ensure their proper representation to the

administration.

- Engage in a Magna Carta Awareness Campaign that will empower students to

know their rights better and be able to exercise them justly. This will also pave the
way towards fruitful discourse on the Magna Carta, which may lead to steps taken

I like doing new things!

In the School of Humanities, we believe in the saying Proceed with Passion. As SOH Chair
and the official representative of the School of Humanities, I want to set the direction on where
to proceed with these passions. Individual passions matter in the School of Humanities and at
every level of society, but even that needs an institutional framework to transform it into a
positive force. I envision the School of Humanities Sanggunian as an institution that transforms
the immensity of individual passions for the greater good. I want to cultivate a sense of purpose
in SOH. SOH Sanggu, under my administration, will be pro-poor, pro-development and projustice.
Engagement
Advocacy Hub. We will open the Sanggunian to advocacies beyond the scope of COA
organizations and other organizations. The School of Humanities Sanggunian will encourage
the student body to fight for advocacies through the Sanggunian by providing assistance in five
key areas: Creation, Planning, Financing, Production and Marketing. The School of Humanities
Sanggunian will also encourage students and students groups with already existing
advocacies to forward their advocacies to the Sanggunian for their advocacies to gain reach
and depth. This policy is also a platform that will allow the student body to participate in and
collaborate with Sanggunian sponsored advocacies. Imagine the Sanggunian fighting for a
multitude of causes for the greater good.
Collaboration for Collective Action. As men and women for others, I envision the School of
Humanities Sanggunian as an institution that looks at marginalized communities, identifies
problem areas and uses the passion and skills of the students to inspire them and transfer the
skill set that they need to change their own lives. In this way, the Sanggunian is not just
volunteering to help them, rather we work to create a sustainable solution to their problems. In
order for the Sanggunian to make bigger ripples of change in the community, it is strategic that
we connect and collaborate with different organizations inside and outside the university. It is
imperative that we widen communication pathways between the Sanggunian and other student
organizations, school assemblies/boards, groups and fellow student governments outside the
Ateneo, or even government institutions, as necessary.
Arts and Humanities for Social Change. In this time of polarizing politics, I believe that art
and the humanities has the power to counteract and transcend oppression. The School of
Humanities Sanggunian will continue to engage with and respond to national issues. We can
use arts and the humanities to 1. Educate and Enlighten 2. Advance Political Awareness and
3. To Uplift. Expect that the School of Humanities Sanggunian will not be silent to issues that
goes against what we stand for as Ateneans.More specially, I would like the Sanggunian to
initiate a Nationwide Martial Law Education Campaign. The era of martial law has become
so remote to us that it has become imbued with myth, which is not so easily dispelled by the
truth. I want the Sanggunian to work with student organization and fellow student councils
outside of the Ateneo for this campaign.
Arts and Humanities Student Alliance. The Arts and Humanities Student Alliance shall be

Arts and Humanities Student Alliance. The Arts and Humanities Student Alliance shall be
formed constituting students from various universities. This alliance will champion the arts and
humanities as important components of a strong and developed nation and engage the arts
and humanities community in discourse on socio-cultural issues.
Establish and Fortify Relations
Administration Relations. The School of Humanities Sanggunian must reestablish and
maintain good working relation with the administration, especially the dean, department chairs
and department secretaries. The goal is for the admin and departments to trust and utilize the
course representatives in info dissemination, curriculum consultations, and etc.
Student Relations. The School of Humanities Sanggunian must widen communication
pathways with the constituency. This can be done in two ways: the first is through the course
representatives and the second through the use of social media and an online public storage
of Sanggunian files. All necessary information (minutes, project proposals, calendar of events,
etc) will be open for consumption so that the students can be involved if they choose to. I am
pushing for a more open and transparent School of Humanities Sanggunian, open in dialogue
with the students. The School of Humanities Sanggunian will also establish an automated
feedback and concerns system.
Org Relations. The School of Humanities Sanggunian must open dialogue with organizations
within the arts and the humanities sector and unaccredited home organizations for support and
to facilitate collaboration and limit the redundancies and move forward as SOH.
Improve Student Services
Curriculum Review. The constituency through elected course representatives must be
involved in discussions that will model the future of the SOH curriculum. I understand that most
student concerns are about the curriculum and to address this the School of Humanities
Sanggunian will regularly consult with the constituency and create a forum wherein we voice
these concerns to the admin and find solutions to address this.
Sanggunian Concerns System. It is about time that the Sanggunian establish an automated
system that will accept student grievances and concerns regarding subjects, professors,
course and others. This way, we can efficiently and effectively respond to their concerns. This
solves the problem of bureaucratic inefficiency.
Systematisation of Services. Create a system that will make the existing and future services
of the Sanggunian more accessible.
Publication Subsidies. The Confederation of Publications introduced this project earlier this
year but is limited only to accredited organizations. I wish to partner with COP with this
endeavour and open it to the entire Loyola Schools.

I envision a School of Science and Engineering that is a major proponent in the national and
global community in the field of science and technology, that puts importance on teaching as
it does on research, while still remaining grounded on our principles in the university.
As SOSE Chair, it is my duty to properly streamline student concerns, course it to the right
people (i.e. course representatives, profs, department chairs, dean), and make sure it always
goes back to the constituent. I plan to institutionalize a system for forwarding the concerns
of SOSE students (without any fear of retribution) that will not only efficiently address these
concerns through the representatives, but will also ensure proper archiving for future
reference.
I plan to work with the LS Office of Placement in making a career fair that is more directed
towards SOSE students, in providing more opportunities to work or intern under the field of
science and technology. It is time we really tapped into the potential of our budding scientists,
and provided the students with more discipline-based learning opportunities outside of the
Ateneo.
I will push for an overall re-evaluation of the curriculum of each course under SOSE through
discussion with both the students and the faculty. It is important that the students understand
the context of the curriculum of their respective courses, and it is also important that the
departments are aware of the perspective of the students. I believe that the School of Science
and Engineering is an institution that should provide the best learning experience for each
student, and that the holistic formation and development experience of each SOSE student
should not be shortchanged because of concerns regarding their curriculum.
Lastly, in line with the universitys goal of improving research efforts to influence policy and
action, I want to work with the departments in gathering the theses of the SOSE seniors to
format and make these more digestible, and to collate them and make them more accessible.
This initiative will aim to increase research efforts within the university, increase accessibility
beyond the four schools of Loyola to these potential publications, and hopefully serve as an
inspiration for students to build upon previous works of past students.
As SOSE Chair, I want my school board to look to themselves to see what we as SOSE
Sanggu, and as students in our respective fields can do outside of Ateneo; I want the impact
of SOSE to go beyond the four Loyola Schools.
I plan for the SOSE Sanggunian to engage with other student councils from other
universities. This alliance shall aim to form networks and meaningful collaborations to
promote innovation and interdisciplinarity, to engage in discourse regarding the different issues
that we are challenged by today, and to unite in a common advocacy despite our different

that we are challenged by today, and to unite in a common advocacy despite our different
contexts.
My flagship project is to hold a conference for high school students that will hold talks as
well as workshops on the different areas of sciences (e.g. environment, disaster risk, IT, etc.).
I want to provide an avenue wherein the youth can forward their agenda and push them to
create a call-to-action on the different key issues we face in our country today. It is my hope
that it shall serve as an inspiration to the students to push for a career in the field of science.
Finally, I want my SOSE Sanggunian to be proactive in the sciences, research and
development sector of the government. In the past few years only a small percent of our
workforce were classified as professionals under the science and technology sector with
millions of others leaving the country to pursue work abroad. I believe that it is time we
developed and empowered the future scientists in our country, and I believe by pushing for the
awareness of the Magna Carta for Scientists, as well as engaging in the dialogue by
releasing stands and working with the organizations in creating meaningful research
and output will start to pave the path to a better future for scientists in the Philippines.

Ultimately, I envision a School of Science and Engineering that is committed to the

development of the nation through the cultivation of innovation and interdisciplinarity in each
of our respective fields.

The nature of the School Representatives powers and functions are twofold: he is both a
legislator and a local executive. The duties of the School Representative, then, involve legislation
for the entire student body, and formulation and execution of programs for the School of Social
Sciences.
1. Increase Financing for Student-led social development initiatives
A. Use SOSS Sanggu's contacts and partnerships, collaborate with ASPAC and other
offices and organizations in and outside Ateneo to fund Student-Led Development
projects
B. Reform Sanggu Subsidy System to incentivize programs and projects that seek to help
achieve social development goals
C. Encourage social development-oriented programs of organizations through an award
for social impact (ideally, cash award to get the project going)

2. Pass legislation to protect students rights. Push for passage of the Basic Gender Equality Bill,
and the Sectoral Representation Bill.

3. File bill for creation of Department of the Student Advocate to integrate the units created by
abovementioned bills, to take proactive and reactive measures to protect students rights, and to
ensure due process is given to students in disciplinary and academic cases

4. Make SOSS School Representatives office accessible to students. Conduct consultations with
student organizations at twice a month; publish commitments after consultations; organize FGDs

5. Incentivize and encourage research by:
A.

Establishing an Undergraduate Student Journal

A.
Creating a task force for student involvement in policy formulation and
congressional and government action (a think-tank with a praxis component)

6. Formulate an agenda for SOSSs environmental involvement
7. Create a transport coalition/task force to come up with solutions for traffic and commute
problems

8. Reform the Sanggunians financial procedures by proposing the "Transparent and

Participatory Budgeting Act, ""Financial Reportage Act," "Budget Rationalization Act," "School
Board Finance Reform Act"

9. Advocate for a review of the Magna Carta to provide for institutional recognition of rights of
Ateneans who are members of indigenous groups to practice their culture in campus.

10. Advocate for the provision of facilities and protections for non-Catholic groups and students
in Ateneo.

Greetings to all!

My name is Shaun Chan. I am currently in my first year studying AB Humanities in
the School of Humanities in the Ateneo, and I am running to be the representative

of my course for our year level.

Firstly, it must be acknowledged that the number of students in my particular

cours and year level is very small. There are currently only a total of 7 of us taking

up AB Humanities. With that being said, the needs of my coursemates will
certainly be different from those of larger courses.

In the history of the Ateneo, Humanities is a course that tends to see a lot of
students
shifting out, and very few actually graduating under it. I believe this is a

very pressing issue. There is poor awareness about the course, its syllabus and

career
path. This leads to people applying to the course without actually knowing

what
it is, with others feeling pressured to shift out because they do not realize

that it can have a great positive impact on one's future. As such, I would like to be

able to help in fixing this issue.

I deem the source of this problem to be a lack of support and exposure, and if

possible
I would like to propose a few projects that might alleviate these problems.

One of these is an AB Humanities awareness campaign. Besides the open house for
aspiring
humanities students, we can relay relevant information such as articles

and
journals to these people. This will help them get a broader and clearer scope

about
what the course actually is, if it is really for them, and how it could help

them.
There are times when one realizes too late that their course is not right for

them, and it is no longer feasible for them to look into another one. And sadly, their

college
experience turns out to be a regrettable one. Through early and sufficient

information, it becomes possible to stop these unfortunate situations from ever

occurring. I see it as a necessary step in ensuring that each and every student in the

Ateneo has a bright future.

Despite
our course being small, I firmly believe that our treatment of these issues

reflects
greater consequences. As we know, humanities is about seeing the world

from
multicultural and creative perspectives, and it actually makes up the corecurriculum
of the Ateneo. The importance of knowing all about it is mandatory to

any aspiring Atenean.

A Place for All IS Majors

Many athletes are majoring in Interdisciplinary Studies. Being a student athlete
during high school, I can relate to these athletes day to day struggles, like the long
trainings and the weekly game schedules. All this goes to show that they know what
hard work and passion entails, and I believe that this attitude of excellence is not
only limited to athletics, but that it can be redirected into passions theyll hopefully
find through the opportunities of an IS independent org. I plan to coordinate with
the IS department, other IS course representatives and my fellow coursemates to
establish an independent org.
Being the IS representative it is my goal that your voices be heard, especially, but not
limited to, the IS department, in order to help them help themselves by creating an
environment that is proactive and unhindering towards them finding their callings
in the different fields of expertise opened up to them. Yet, it is also my goal that their
lives not be completely consumed by this pressure to find a lifelong career, hence
something akin to a home org will especially help them others with similar interests
to create a tightly knit and fun-loving community.

under pressure. I am passionate and can easily adapt to any given
situation. I have a sufficient background in Spanish as well. Aside from
that, I am also skilled at working with various computer systems,
software, and computers.

Interests:

I enjoy musical theatre, acting, singing in the shower and gymnastics. I

like meeting new people and trying out new things. I savor mindopening experiences and immersing myself in classic books and movies.
I also love food, serving others for the greater glory of God, and getting
people closer to Him.

Pang-Athlete, easy course in Ateneo, walang kwenta, these are the

negative connotations that go with being a student majoring in IS. From this stems
a problem that IS students face: The lack of confidence in ones self regarding ones
intellectual capabilities. IS students should know of the many opportunities for
improvement and avail of support services if they need it, or want it. I want to
promote an environment wherein my coursemates can help each other with their
dilemmas, especially with regards to their studies.
First, as course representative, I can help my coursemates approach profs if
they need help or have concerns, since as freshmen, being in a fresh school with a
new faculty and community is terrifying. Second, I can also help advance my
coursemates knowledge on their rights as students by connecting them to the
student handbook which contains the magna carta, as well as be their voice should
their rights be violated. Third, I can connect my coursemates to the AMS
organization that offers one-on-one and group tutorials to help them with their
studies and also remind them to make use of consultations with professors. Lastly, I
can also let them know of the services of the Sanggunian that they can avail of such
as borrowing calculators and other things from DSWS, and the Sanggu Subsidy
System (SSS) which can help fund theses or projects in the future.
Another thing that IS students desperately need is to be aware of their course.
In fact, it is not just the IS students who need to be aware but non-IS students as
well. I want them to be well-informed about the many things they can do with a
degree in IS. Some who are currently in the course dont even know that there are
tracks to be chosen; and for those that know, they dont know what these tracks are,
what they can offer, or that there are requirements for them.
To address this problem, I propose to have infographs on the IS tracks coursed
through the Sanggunian channel and SOH Sanggu FB page as well as posters posted
on the SOH Sanggu corkboard along EDSA walk for something more lasting. These
infographs and posters will not only be informative and concise, but aesthetically
pleasing. This would be a project in partnership with ID course representatives that
will employ the help of ID students who are interested to showcase their talent.
Apart from infographics and posters, I propose to invite the IS department,
graduates of IS and possibly the LSOCPS to give enlightening talks on student life,
possibilities with an IS degree and the course itself, focusing on the diverse tracks IS
offers. It will be highly recommended for IS students and open to non-IS students
who want to learn more about the course. I am aware of the fact that similar talks

exist for other courses (ex. Lit GAs), so in my effort to get the Sanggunian more
involved in my platform and go beyond the duties of being a course representative,
I would implore the Sanggunian to apply them to all the courses. After all the main
goal is to help each and every student find the right course for them, not just if IS is
the right course for them.
In conclusion, the two main points that my platform would like to address is
the awareness of ones course and academic empowerment.

Platform #01: 2 AB LIT-ENG TRADE

Throughout my experience with my sophomore course mates so far, I have
noticed that majority, if not all, are artistically inclined. Last school year, quite a
number of them had participated in the SOH Fest, selling their art and opening up
commissions for anyone interested. The income they had received was able to help
them with their own personal finances. With that in mind, I would like to pitch the
idea of establishing an official Trade system within the community of the
sophomore AB Literature students in hopes of:
1. Strengthening bonds and relationships that have been fostered
2. Supporting each other in their own endeavors
3. Serving as an initial audience to artists who are just starting out
While this is an idea primarily geared towards the artists, those who would like to
sell items such as books, food, etcetera are also encouraged to participate. This is so
that everyone would have the chance to really help each other out, especially those
who are in need of finances.
If pursued and established, ground rules would be set in order to make sure that
the experience is a positive one. In regards to artists who would like to offer their art,
additional measures would be put to ensure that the artist would receive proper pay
for their services.
Platform #02: INDIVIDUAL CONSULTATIONS
As a way to keep tabs on my sophomore course mates, I would like to put forward
the idea of doing Individual Consultations (ICs). This would serve as a way for me to
know if my course mates would need any assistance in their academics, if they
would have any concerns they would like to put out, or if they would simply like to
talk and talk about anything thats on their mind. I would require for everyone to
sign up for an IC, but the choice to open up is ultimately up to them. It would be
encouraged for them to express any concerns, though if all they want is a listening
ear, then I would very much be happy to provide that for them.

The IC would take at least half an hour; though if time permits it, I would be happy
to extend IC hours with my course mates if the situation calls for it. Ideally, this would
take place within school hours. For those who would personally an after-school
session, then I am also open to that so as long as personal and academic matters are
not compromised.
My ideal schedule for ICs would be during midterms. Therefore, there would be
two ICs for the first semester and two as well for the second semester.
Platform #03: STUDY GROUPS
While primarily for helping the sophomores in their Literature 126.1 (Western
Literature) subject, this may also apply for any other classes. A formal study session
may be held concerning a subject of their choice; my course mates may use this
opportunities to clarify questions they may have with the readings or with any of the
lessons discussed in their respective classes. These study sessions may take place a
week before midterms and finals, and the subject concerned would ultimately be
up to my course mates decision.

Ive been the course representative for English Literature twice, and Id like to run for
a third time and hopefully be able to continue my service to my blockmates and to
the course as a whole. In order to do this, I have three main goals.
First, I want to maintain good communication with the English Department, our
home department. Last year, with the help of some of our professors, we were able
to successfully hold an improved Lit GA with better attendance from the
underclassmen, have mandatory advisement for the upcoming juniors and seniors
for their major subjects and lit electives, and in general have an easier time when it
comes to consultations with professors and additional IPS advisement. I hope to be
able to continue and once more implement these for my blockmates and the other
lit majors as well so we students can have a better relationship with our professors
as well as to help reduce or outright avoid any unnecessary difficulties we might
experience when it comes to our majors.
Second, I plan to work more closely with the underclassmen lit majors, hopefully
through their own course reps or at least a point person, in order to also build a
better connection with them. Through engaging in conversation with my
upperclassmen in previous years, as well as through the Lit GAs weve had in the
past, I can say that many of my upperclassmen then helped me have an easier time
with being a lit major. They gave me and some of my blockmates advice, tips, moral
support, or even old readings when necessary. Id like to do this with the
underclassmen as well. Id like to set up ways, through the Lit GAs, online groups,
and personal meet ups, where the underclassmen can communicate with the
upperclassmen in case they are in need of some words of advice that someone who
has gone through the same majors, troubles, and requirements, can give.
Lastly, I also plan to contribute once more to the planning and execution of this
school years SOH Week, or Arete. For two straight years, I co-headed a major project
of Arete, the SOH Art Fair, and I am glad to say that both my project and Arete as a
whole were a success for the two years that I helped. I plan to once more offer what
I can in order to have another successful SOH Week, either as a core team member
or as a project head.

Aside from this, my platform is based on two things: 1) Increased
coordination between the philosophy home org (Samahan Sa
Pilosopiya) and the Sanggunian. The philosophy home org, previously
an active entity within the Ateneo (though unaccredited) through its
publication Tasyo, is currently undergoing restructuring, but with
future projects in the horizon there is room for growth for a fruitful
relationship, and as a member (I) can act as a liaison.
2) Projects (particularly in the form of talks) relevant to my
constituents. The course of philosophy is a kaleidoscope of fields and
interests, yet philosophy majors will find it difficult to see opportunities
to engage these outside of what is taught in the curriculum. Projects in
the form of talks that discuss uncommon yet interesting topics will
address this; however, these forums/talks will not just be exclusive to
philosophy majors---but to the student body in general as well.

Skills:

I am adept at working with people of various

backgrounds. I am efficient working alone and with a
group as long as my group mates are as enthusiastic
as me in the work that we are doing. I am easy to
contact through mobile phone and via email. I am a
punctual person. I value work ethic for I embody it
myself.

Interests:

I enjoy playing the guitar, singing and reading. I spend

most of my free time alone in my room reading. I also
love choral music. I play sports like basketball, football
and swimming.

I am King Reinier P. Palmea, a junior Philosophy major and I plan to run for
Course Representative in the upcoming Sanggunian elections. My decision to run
for the Sanggunian was compelled by my desire to serve a new and improved
undergraduate constitution.
Aside from performing my default job as a liaison between my constituents
and the Philosophy department, the following are my plans if I am elected into
office.
First, through coordination and consultation with Dr. Remmon Barbaza, our
Department Chair and Mr. Mike Mariano, our program coordinator, I plan to provide
an avenue where students can make a petition for the electives they want the
Philosophy Department to teach. A comprehensive study of philosophers like Marx
and Simone Weil or of Ferriols Meron is sought by students but they were not
taught because students are not encouraged to petition.
Second, it is also my intention to revive the official publication of the
Philosophy DepartmentPilosopo Tasyo. The publication features essays written by
professors and philosophy papers of students worthy of recognition. This is to create
spaces for philosophy students and faculty to exhibit their works through a
publication in order to promote the humanities which are usually set aside and
neglected.
Lastly, I want to propose a curriculum review for the Philosophy program
especially with regards to the major subjects. Most of the major subjects taken by
the Philosophy majors are Western while Oriental philosophy is neglected. There are
only two courses offered about Eastern Philosophy: Chinese and Indian Philosophy
which comprises just 6 units of our curriculum. Moreover, there are also no electives

and courses offered which offers a comprehensive study of the works of Fr. Roque
Ferriols who is the pioneer in teaching philosophy in Filipino. I want to ensure
feedback mechanisms are in place so the curriculum is better suited for philo
majors' interests and contexts.
Even though this is my first time to run for the Sanggunian, I am very much
willing to learn from the experience. I believe that for the past two years of my stay
in Ateneo, I have cultivated a work ethic that will enable me to perform my duties
effectively. My academics will not also be an impediment for my job for I have a
relatively good academic standing. Also, I have built a rapport to my department as
well as my constituencies for me to be able to freely communicate and listen to their
concerns and function well as a liaison. If elected, I promise to serve in the
Sanggunian to the best of my abilities.

in both spoken and written discourse. I am a team
player and can work effectively with any team, but
can also work alone if need be. I can settle matters
quickly and diffuse tension among people, and am
unafraid of confrontation if it is required.

Skills:

Interests:

I enjoy singing (mostly classical/opera pieces), writing

(non-fiction genre), reading, and expressing creativity
through different outlets such as calligraphy/lettering,
colour pencil art, etc.

My name is Boz Paul B. Suaybaguio, a fourth year AB Philosophy student. Since

entering college, my programme (and all others, in general) has lacked effective
representation due to the poor presence of the previous Sanggunian. With the new
structure, I am hoping that this shortcoming could be ameliorated, and, assuming it
is, I would like to represent both my block and the entire undergraduate programme
of Philosophy.
I believe myself qualified for the position due to my exposure in pertinent
areas. I have been a member of the Debate Track of the Ateneo Debate Society since
sophomore year and have been trained and mentored in the art of discourse and
discussion by the top debaters of the country, including names such as Inah Robles,
Leloy Claudio, etc., and have participated in numerous debate tournaments and
workshops. Besides public speaking, I am also experienced in written
argumentation and opinion, being a student of both the Philosophy and Creative
Writing programmes, a participant in numerous writing workshops, a mentor in
WriterSkills mentorship program, etc. I am no stranger to working with other
people, cooperating even if we dont see eye to eye. I am not a fan of needless drama,
preferring to diffuse tension and solve problems of groups; however, I am not afraid
of confronting people either if they prove unreasonable or incompetent.
Besides extra-curricular activities, I have also worked as my fathers secretary
in his private law firm prior to being an intern to a firm of a colleague of his. I am
used to paperwork and being a subordinate to higher officials. I also understand
political structures and dynamics well, being the son of a political figure and
member of a prominent political clan in my home city.
If elected as my programmes course representative, I promise to become the
channel in which students my voice out their concerns. I will also ensure that they
are kept up-to-date with important information.

I work well both alone and with others, although most

importantly under pressure. I am efficient at out-ofthe-box thinking and can provide creative solutions to
problems in line with whatever bigger picture is being
captured, all while maintaining an optimistic outlook.
Communication, organization, and PR/marketing are
also some of my strongest suits. I am also dedicated to
whatever task or project it is I set out to do.

Interests:

I enjoy reading, writing, listening to music, watching

films, and the following topics: history, philosophy,
and psychology.

My name is Nina Pineda from 1 BFA CW and I am running for Course Representative
for BFA Creative Writing. If elected, I will push for the following projects:
1. CW General Assembly + Career Talks
Prior to entering Ateneo, I was made aware of the fact that some students viewed
my course as a stepping-stone, an easy way to get into Ateneo; after OrSem, it
became more apparent that others were unsure whether or not to shift or stay.
This is why I believe that it is important for students in my course to know just what
theyre getting into. The assembly will cover all aspects of the four years we will
spend pursuing this course, hopefully alleviating any concerns, and will also be
where the students are pre-introduced to their future professors and classes.
Ateneo alumni and other figures in industries such as publishing will also be invited
to speak about the possibilities in life after college, to give students at least an idea
of what tracks there are to pursue.
2. Recognition of local talent
There is much talk about lack of Filipino representation in media, which I
understand can be discouraging at times. This is why I propose projects that would
recognize not only Filipino writers, but also the many talents present in SOH across
all year levels.
This can be done through informative pamphlets, posters, and even videos to be
cross-posted on social media, for a specific amount of time during the school year.
Each specific course could have a deliberation process to determine who, in the
many artists featured in Philippine history, gets featured.
This also promotes the appreciation of local culture, which can be cultivated
through the continuation of this project, and more talks for those who are interested
to learn about it in-depth.

3. Art for a purpose

As writers, we have spent enough time going within and reflecting on our innermost
selves, so one of my main concerns within my course is to promote going outwards,
meaning to say: to create art not just for art's sake.
Through projects and student initiatives such as workshops for high school students
or even Ateneans who arent taking up Creative Writing but are interested in the
craft; a literature and arts night where students can showcase their work through
readings or performances; and a project where CW majors write and publish short
stories for children, to be donated to a public school in Manila; its important for us
to promote an approach towards art that not only benefits us, but also society,
especially the youth who aren't given the same opportunities as we are.
I want the course to engage in more social purposes and for my course-mates to
recognize the responsibility of being in Ateneo; I want to encourage them to take
the initiative to apply all we've learned so far in such a way that gives back to the
community we all belong in.
As freshmen, we are filled with an excitement and enthusiasm that I believe can
really drive these ideas into feasible goals.

My platform is geared towards creating avenues that foster greater

involvement among the constituency in various facets through:
Increase of constituency involvement and input through a cultivation of
discourse within the Creative Writing Majors using grassroots approaches such as
holding general assemblies and group or individual consultations that are centered
towards student concerns and welfare. Additionally, the meetings will be an avenue
for the majors to provide input with regards to specific projects, workshops or
initiatives that they might want Sanggunian or the Home Department to put up.
Tentative projects that would address the constituencys initial and current
concerns include a talk discussing the publication process and a forum that would
allow them access to career opportunities after graduation.
Increase of constituency involvement and interest in the Sanggunian by
furthering visibility of Sanggunian projects such as the SSS Program and ensuring
that Sanggunians presence is better felt through a more aggressive approach in
information dissemination of projects in social media and other mediums.
Increase of constituency involvement in social responsibility and discourse on
socio-cultural issues by holding a batch outreach or advocacy talk geared towards
the preservation of indigenous cultural literature or another initiative that the
constituency can collectively agree on. The project aims at allowing individuals to
actively participate in transformative social change through movements that would
utilize the skills learned from their courses and would be developed or built upon
from the FA 103 subject. This project could also involve and be integrated into the
INAF program, depending on certain factors such as feasibility and cooperation.

The Union of Students for the Advancement of Democracy (USAD) believes in a

student government that is oriented towards genuine democratic governance, one
that addresses the needs of the student body and the social community we belong
to. Our Party thus runs in this elections with an agenda to deepen our democracy in
in every aspect. More than an institution or process, we view democracy as a way
of life which must be embodied by those that strive for positions within our
Student Government.
This necessitates a genuinely representative Sanggunian, one that recognizes the
need to understand the development process and addresses issues of development.
The Course Representatives role is crucial in realizing this for the Course
Representative is mandated by the Constitution to act not only as a liaison between
my constituency and department but also in formulating and implementing
policies, stands, resolutions, and programs on the Sanggunians behalf.
As the 4 Information Design Course Representative, I shall act in my capacity as a
liaison by formulating the following policies and committees:
On Curriculum Review
(1) An invitation for Information Design majors to discuss and review their
curriculum and taken FA/FA-ID related coursesthat would be followed up
through a report afterwards to the home department at the end of this school
year. The formulation of this committee is in response to the possibilities of
redundancies in the ID program.
(2) This candidate recognizes that the ideal Information Design program should
provide a more eclectic education for its fine arts students. It is difficult to find
talented design and art practitioners who are willing to work full-time for a
universitymany students would feel that there should be more electives offered
by the FA-ID Program. A feasible idea to this problem is to invite and hold
talks/workshops instead by practitioners from the broad creative field
imagine having over a tattoo artist, calligrapher, 3D animator, printmaker,
game/application developer, and/or film editor to speak inside our classrooms.
On Intellectual Security
(3) A formulation of a committee and a tie-in with the IPR Task Force (IPRTF) will
assist in its organizational thrusts to hold seminars for student organizations

and JSEC applicants on Intellectual Property Rights and also informing ethical
use of other peoples works for design or art.
(4) Further tie-in with the IPRTF to help draft guidelines, a manual, and stands
in response to undesired incidents related to IPR violation inside the campus.
This proposed committee shall act discreetly as it is necessary and as much as it
can.
On ID as a Community
(5) ID as a community is important. The seniors feel that it is important to
encourage every Information Design major to have a common spirit with
everyoneto carry an excitement with being able to meet and grow close to
other ID majors from other blocks and years, and even their alumni. This
candidate has made this as one of his personal thrusts and hopes to foster this
by organizing a community mixer, short field trips, and collaboration in fairs
outside. This thrust should be realistic and hopes to accomplish this through tieups with other student organizations and support from the Fine Arts
Department directly.
Us beyond the Community
(6) More than as a liaison between the students and the department, this
candidate intends to expand his thrusts and encourage the ID program to create
tie-ins with the Office of Social Concern and Involvement (OSCI) and Union of
Students for the Advancement of Democracy (USAD). This initiative shall
formulate a committee and should help draft more relevant and design-driven
programs for JEEP, NSTP, and InTACTand help engage ID majors in the study
and praxis of development and socio-political formation.
As a Course Representative, I shall ensure that the Sanggunian, especially the
School Assembly, remains faithful to the Constitution as it is concerned with the
Sanggunians resolutions, policies, programs, and stands. I shall ensure that it
adheres to the aims of the Sanggunian as written in the Constitution.
Through my tenure, I shall advocate for a more representative and
independent Sanggunian through the pursuit and practice of social democratic
ideals, hoping to fulfil the project of deepening democracy in the student
community.

Being freshmen, we were thrown into this new environment which we know
nothing
about. It is the course representatives job to make sure that everyone

adapts
to this new and unfamiliar
setting. Through proper communication, we can

break barriers between blocks and enjoy Ateneo as one course. I plan to create a
Facebook group for my entire course where I can properly announce events and
important information without hindrance. I will also create a typeform for
complaints and suggestions which will make it easier for me to relay it to the
Sanggunian and admin but at the same time making it easier for me to reply back
to my fellow course mates. I also plan to create a doc with the contact numbers of
the different profs we might encounter throughout our duration in Ateneo so that it
would be easier for my course mates to contact their respective professors.
In Ateneo, we are given different opportunities to learn, not only academically,
but to learn how to be a better person. I will be creating a calendar that will contain
all the different projects they can participate in so that they may be able to see the
projects beforehand.
Although in running as a Sanggu officer, I wish to address concerns in the
student body. Professors usually require students to print their worksheets and
informal reports on clean paper; but this will only affect our environment badly. It
will also cause inconvenience to my fellow course mates since Why not opt to use
recycled paper instead? Students, at the same time, will be bringing less papers,
therefore, less weight to bring from class to class. The Sanggu can also organize a
weekly paper drive where the students can leave their scratch papers and/or
newspapers in respective drop-off points. These recyclable papers can be recycled
into notebooks to be donated to the youth included in the different programs under
the Sanggu. In this way, the student body, and not just the student government, can
partake in helping the community.
However, in relation to my course, I wanted to create something special for my
course mates. In partnership with the administration, we can host an Advertising
Competition amongst the ComTech students. This will give my course mates the
opportunity to show their creative side and at the same time, help them expose
themselves to out of the ordinary projects. It will a competition between blocks.
They will have to choose a common rule in Ateneo and advertise it to the student
body. This can be done in the form of a video, tarpaulins (with the permission of the
admin) posters, and/or social experiments; basically anything they can think of to
entice students to follow the rules. The judges can consist of officers in the Sanggu.

The main criteria to win is the amount of exposure the campaigns will receive. The
winners can be featured in the Ateneo websites and social media accounts as the
official Atenean campaign. This can also give my course mates the much-needed
experience that is similar to what it really is like in the real world. At the same time,
this is also an interesting way to encourage the student body to respect and follow
the rules of Ateneo.

Block Officers in Charge

Since BS Management Major in Communications Technology Batch 2015 2019
is comprised of four blocks (R, R1, R2, and R3), I plan on creating and managing
Block Officers in Charge. These four officers will directly report to CTMs three course
representatives when there are various announcements to be made, plans to be
implemented or in any case where information dissemination is needed. Having an
officer in charge per block will help maintain the blocks solidarity and awareness
through swiftly relayed Ateneo de Manila University or Sanggunian related notices.
Strengthen ties between Sanggunian and ACTM
BS Management Major in Communications Technology has its own home
organization

namely

Ateneo

Communications

Technology

Management (ACTM) that only caters to CTM majors. To foster a closer and stronger
connection between the CTM majors two main sources of information, I designate
myself to be the bridge that will disseminate announcements from the two parties
to my fellow batchmates and coursemates. Furthermore, I can help manage CTM
Batch 2015 2019s Facebook group by continuously posting updates and
announcements given by both Sanggunian and ACTM.
Batch Bonding for a Cause
Since not all coursemates and batchmates know each other, I plan to have a BS
Management Major in Communications Technology Batch 2015 2019 bonding for
a cause. In order to be more feasible, I propose to have this block movie screening
set in U.P. Town Center Cinema so as to lessen the hassle of travelling to some
students. This event will take place as a fundraiser and at the same time, an
experience that will foster unity and camaraderie within the batch. Funds raised
from this event will be donated to charitable organizations or be exchanged to relief
goods for calamity stricken areas in the country.

1. Track talk for BS Communications Technology Management students.

BS Communications Technology Management (ComTech) students are made to
choose a track to focus on during their third year: marketing, communication, or
information technology. They would have already taken or be currently taking COM
11, COM 12, MKT 101, and CS 30 by the time they will need to choose a track, which
is usually halfway into the first semester of their third year. And many junior
ComTech students, myself included, are still unsure which track to choose. I would
create a project in partnership with the ComTech department to have a talk open
to ComTech students of all year levels.
The talk I have planned is in two parts. One will have 4th year ComTech students as
speakers, one or two students from each track will speak about their track, what
they do there, how they are as students, etc. The other talk will have alumni as
speakers. I plan to contact 4-5 speakers; one will be someone who took the
marketing track and is now working in marketing, another will be someone who
took the communications track and is now working in communications or media,
another will be someone who took the IT track and is now working in IT, and the last
1 or 2 speakers will be someone who is working in a field that is different from the
track they took.
I feel like this would be a good project for ComTech students of all year levels
because this would allow us to really get to know what we signed up for when we
chose ComTech as a course and get insights from people who have done the same
thing as we are.
2. Chill During Exams Week (CDEW)
Every student feels incredibly stressed during midterms and finals week, and I
believe that taking the time to just relax and not think about academics even for a
bit can help a lot. I want to have a project where there is a space inside the Ateneo
(somewhere like Colayco Pavilion or Gonzaga 310) where there are bean bags, board
games, movies, hammocks, etc., where students can take the time to destress from
their academic work. The project can last 2-3 weeks, starting the week before exams
week, and ending either on exam week or the week after exam week.

3. Kariton
Klasrum

Kariton
Klasrum is a project wherein people have kariton filled with books and

activities and they take it to children who dont have much access or resources to an

education.
It is a project of IgnITE, but instead of having it as an IgnITE-based project,

Id like to make it available for the entire Ateneo community and have IgnITE lead it

rather than it be an inside-IgnITE project.

4. JGSOM partnerships with other schools.

JGSOM
projects and initiatives are often within the JGSOM itself, and we as a school

often get to interact with the other schools. Id like to create projects and
dont

initiatives
that JGSOM is in partnership with SOSE, SOSS, and/or SOH. These projects

will have aspects that distinctly show each of the schools are known for and

incorporate
that with the other schools traits.

5. Stronger
Sanggunian

The Sanggunian, for many years, have lacked the support of a good amount of the
student
body. Though there have been many efforts on their part to get Ateneans

involved
and interested in the Sanggunian, it has had little success. Id like for the

Sanggunian

to improve on their systems, and also make itself more known in the

projects
it is involved in, because the Sanggunian is usually a behind-the-scenes
in projects. I want the Sanggunian to be something that people dont have to
entity

be forced to support; rather, I want it to be something that people are genuinely

interested
in being a part of.

LEAD
LEAD, an acronym that stands for Lift, Endow, Assist, and Develop, aims to put the students
needs first by establishing a sturdier foundation for the students of BS ME and lead and prepare them
for the duration of the school-year as well as provide them with vital information for the coming years
with the following goals in mind:
1) Creating an online centralized information board where one can find out about info
regarding ME and their subjects.
2) Creation of a Message Board where one can send comments, concerns, and other matters
regarding the students wants to Sanggunian.
3) Collaboration with MEA and the Year Development Council (YDC) within the home org to
disseminate information about events, acads databases, and mock tutorials.
4) Point persons within each block to disseminate information more concisely and create
SWOT charts.
5) Smoothening the process of segueing into ME for shift-ins.
6) Support for the shift-outs by contacting their respective course representative to provide
assistance.
7) Organizing events relating to business that may assist the students.
8) Preparation for those interested in the JTA program by organizing events relating to life
and studies abroad.
It is important to put the students needs first and foremost in order for them to excel within
BS ME and Ateneo. However there are still many obstacles to deal with, most notably information
dissemination. Throughout my first year I have found that one would need to look at different
websites, links, MEA, and school departments in order to find information regarding retention
requirements, appealing processes etc. which is why I plan to create an online centralized
information board with the help of MEA which will include information about ME with regards to
the following: the retention grades; the majors and their descriptions; what to expect from each class
and major regarding the number of LTs and what to study for each LT; information regarding the
basic track of any subject and the required retention grades should one be placed in the basic track
of math; information about appealing, shifting, minoring, or double majoring; links to sample LTs
compiled from different orgs. This way, all the information regarding ME will be put into one
accessible place.
In follow-up to a centralized information board, I also plan to create a Message Board where
students may raise questions, concerns, wants, or needs with Sanggunian. This Message Board will
be placed within the Information Board. With this being open year-long, there will be an opportunity
for continuous suggestions with which ME students can be assisted. Should a student wish to raise
an awareness campaign based on a cause that they value and preach, I will inform the Sanggunian
about it and proceed accordingly whether Sanggunian will support the cause. Should a students
rights be violated in any way, I will seek measures in order to remedy the violation, such as seeking

guidance from the Student Judicial Court, from the Dean of BS ME, the Dean of JGSOM, or other
appropriate Atenean staff who can best aid the student.
Given that there is a home org that the students are heavily involved in, I plan to form a
collaboration with MEA and the Year Development Council (YDC) within the org. Through this
collaboration I could more easily disseminate information about events, acads databases, and mock
tutorials that can be handled in conjunction with MEA ACADS. I will act as the bridge between ME
and the Sanggunian, wherein I will be concerned with the development of the student.
There are also two more issues that students of the course now face this year: differing scheds
leading to less inter-block and intra-block interactions; and the existence of cliques that have formed
in first year. Given that these events cannot be avoided, I plan to assign point persons within each
block to encourage and try to hatak their blockmates into going to inter-block hangouts like block
dinners and ice skating. It will also be impossible to create several events that involve the entire batch,
which is why it would be more practical to hold an event each semester that will bring the batch
close. Again, I would collaborate with the YDC to formulate events such as a Christmas Party and a
Year-End Party. These point persons will also be the ones to inform me of any concerns that a student
or group of students have should they choose not to use the message board, and they will update
me monthly on each block with a SWOT chart (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) that
will better guide me on what to improve for each block.
In the first few weeks of the second year, I have found that the shift-ins have had trouble
adjusting to the life of ME, especially since ME has formed cliques and that subjects such as math
and accounting require them to put in more effort. With this I plan to form a Mentoring Program
wherein current ME students would act as mentors for the shift-ins, providing them with a
connection within ME as well as giving them guidance for each subject and balancing org-life with
ME.
I have also noticed that shift-outs have had difficulty adjusting to their new courses and new
blocks, which is why I will take the initiative of contacting each shift-outs respective course
representative to try and assist the shift-out in his new course and meet his new coursemates.
However, if elected, I will only be limited to contacting the course representatives as I am not the
course rep of the shift-outs.
Given that ME is a course geared towards business, an opportunity presents itself in the form
of talks. I will seek out current events and organize talks that concern business, such as
entrepreneurship talks, leadership talks, internship talks, etc. that could potentially help the students
better grasp the idea of what it mean to be in ME as well as develop knowledge about the business
world.
As sophomores, many students have been deliberating on the decision of going on the Junior
Term Abroad (JTA) program. Thus it will be opportune to schedule a few talks with regards to
information about JTA-ing, the pros and cons, and the amount of work that the student expects to
miss while abroad. It will also be beneficial to contact upperclassmen to provide one-on-one
guidance to sophomores on whether going on JTA is right for them.

MAKING YOUR LIFE MACHI-SIER.

My platform is to help each and every one of my block mates and make their
lives MACHI-sier. I will serve as the medium between the Sanggunian and my block.
When there are reminders and announcements, I will be sure to disseminate all
information to my block mates. In this way, they will not miss out on any
opportunities being given to them. I will contact them through text, Facebook chat
and Telegram so that I can be sure that they are all aware of all the important
announcements. My advocacy is to empower each and every one to create change
in the society. With this, I will encourage my block mates to find the initiative to
create change and they can do this through participating in the different projects in
Ateneo. It is my platform to make sure they are aware of everything happening in
Ateneo thus, being able to participate in such events. Basically, my goal is for no one
to be left behind. I aim for each and every one of my block mates to take all the
opportunities they can. I believe that the first step to reaching my goal is awareness.
I will be the instrument for my block mates to be aware of all the projects and events
in Ateneo.
Being freshmen, my block mates and I do not know much of the Ateneo
culture yet. Inevitably, we have a lot of questions and concerns. As a course
representative, it will be my duty to represent my block and their issues about the
Ateneo life. I will be responsible for their concerns and I will also be sure to do my
best in addressing these. My main priority is my block and their welfare so whenever
they have any questions, I will be sure to do my best and give them answers.
Hopefully, answering their questions will help make their first year in Ateneo much
easier. I will serve as their guiding light, providing them with all the information they
need, creating study groups for tests and even reminding them about assignments.
I would like to start the Noli P. Tangere Campaign. In Ateneo, having an
umbrella is a necessity. With this, new problems arise; people tend to lose their
umbrellas and some even steal umbrellas. With the Noli Payong Tangere Campaign,
we will make people pledge to a life of Integrity and Honesty and that they will
respect the possessions of other people. In line with this, we will also provide a
sticker where students can write their name and this will be placed on their
umbrella. In case of loss, the umbrella can be returned to its rightful owner. This can

umbrella. In case of loss, the umbrella can be returned to its rightful owner.
This can also help differentiate similar umbrellas with one another. This campaign
supports my advocacy to empower individuals to spark change and creates an
environment of both Integrity and Honesty in The Ateneo.
Another project that I would like to start is the Entrep Emporium. Basically,
the students under the course of BS Management are grouped into groups of 5. As
teams, they devise a business plan to sell their product while having a beneficiary or
partner community. They are not only tasked to create and sell their unique
products but they also get to help an organization. After all the planning, an Entrep
Emporium will be held. This will be similar to a bazaar and the students will also
need to promote their partner community. They will not only be able to utilize what
they learn as Management students but they will also be able to give back to society.
I firmly believe that being a course representative is such a vital role in serving
others. If it is not for course representatives, there will be no bridge between the
Sanggunian and the block. I wish to be a helpful friend to my block mates and being
a course representative gives me the opportunity to serve them. I will be there for
my block mates 24/7 and I will ensure that no one will get left behind. They can
count on me for all their concerns and anything under the sun.

I want to run because I want to make our course more different. More different in a
sense that, I want to add value to the last six letters of our course that is, HONORS. I want to
run because I believe that we deserve more delineation from the standard. This isnt because
we highly favor elitism. This is because many people do not understand the struggles of being
an MH student. We are required to maintain a 3.0 QPI which is obviously not easy given the
harder profs we have who can sometimes be rather unreasonable. MH students also receive
the greatest pressure in my opinion, given the high mortality rate.
This high mortality rate is caused by either the students not making the cut or those
who just couldnt take the pressure. This now leads me to the first of my three platforms:
I wish to change the honors program curriculum. As management majors, were
supposed to be prepared for the real world by applying the theories we will have learned in
the course of 4 years through business execution. I acknowledge the existence of JSEC and
SOMBA programs but the fact that these are optional does not fulfill the description of the
course. These actual business executions should be required and incorporated in our
curriculum, at least for the Management-Honors Program.
Drawing back to the high mortality rate of the course, one of the reasons why MH
students just opt to go for the standard is because theres barely any difference. Its just the
two added subjects thats not much of a loss if we decide to shift to standard. In fact, when Im
asked by other people for the difference between the two courses, I just blurt out Uhm we
have terror profs? We have a cut-off grade? and thats it. This, isnt exactly something we can
say to our future employers. This is why I propose additional subjects to our curriculum. I
propose that MH students be required to put up actual businesses so it doesnt end with a
business plan thesis. Subjects focusing on financial literacy should also be incorporated to the
curriculum to make this end goal of having a business more feasible. Since the core subjects
for next batches will have less units, electives can be available for MH students teaching
banking and investment during the first year and perhaps the stock market on the second year
depending on what seems suitable. If this change is implemented, not only will it make MH
students more significantly different from the standard, but it will also encourage more people
to take the course because of the added benefits.
My second platform aims to modify the forced ranking system followed in the School of
Management. This system was newly introduced to us in our LS10 class wherein we are
required to submit an industry paper and group ourselves into five. The forced ranking system
involves positioning the group members anywhere from 1-20 according to how much he/she
has contributed in the group. Outliers then receive their respective bonuses and deductions.
The one who is on top garnering the majority of the votes receives two letter grades higher
while the one who is ranked last from the group (5 and above) receives two letter grades lower.

while the one who is ranked last from the group (5 and above) receives two letter grades lower.
We all find this very unfair not only as admittedly grade-conscious MH students, but unfair
overall. While it is true that there will always be one in the group who would stand out and lead,
it is not necessarily the same for the unproductive ones. We see this as a problem because it
is very unlikely for us MH students to slack off and yet there will we be one who wont receive
a fair grade. What I propose is to retain the bonus and change the condition in giving
deductions. In a group of 5, instead of automatically giving 2 letter grades lower to only one
who ranked 5th, all those who ranked 7th and above will receive the necessary deductions. This
will also account for multiple unproductive members and will take into consideration the actual
amount of work he/she has contributed to the group. In my opinion, this modification will aid
our professors in the better evaluation of our grades.
Finally, my last platform focuses on building more significant networks for the future.
This is patterned to the mentoring programs of different home organizations but will not only
focus on the benefits MH students will get after graduation but also on the help we will get in
the process. Despite the existence of the mentoring program and the MH talk the Ateneo
Management Association have, I believe that these two programs do not have the same impact
given that the org is dominated by management-standard students. This is why I propose the
establishment of the connection between current MH students and MH alumna. It is rare that
we meet graduates of our course mainly because there are only a few which is why our
exposure to even a few of them with their jobs and experiences would be of great help.

The Union of Students for the Advancement of Democracy (USAD) believes in a

student government that embodies genuine democratic governance, that
addresses the genuine needs of the student body and the community that we are
part of. Our Party thus runs in this elections with an agenda to deepen our
democracy in many respects.
As the 4 BS Management-Honors course representative, I will establish feedback
mechanisms between my constituents and home department. Specifically, I will
conduct regular interviews and surveys to determine my constituents problems and
concerns, and relay them to the program director, MIchael Tan.
I am pushing for an institutional promotion of upholding labor rights in the
Management and Management-Honors curricula. We management students
should have a deep understanding of the responsibilities and obligations employers
have to their workersa practice of social justice grounded on solidarity and human
dignity. In line with this, I also want to craft political formation modules for
Management and Management-Honors students to deepen our understanding of
the roles we play in power structures. This should compel us to work toward a
transformation of society grounded on social democratic principles.
I am also pushing for a review of labor practices in Ateneo, especially with regard to
their partnership with the Ateneo Employees and Workers Union and the
administration's treatment of the JGSOM Student Enterprise Center employees
Furthermore, I shall strive to bridge the expertise of my constituents with projects/
partnerships that will enable them to contribute to the social good. I intend to work
with my Home Department, specifically Michael Tan, Carlos Cabochan, and Richard
Soriano, to push for more socially relevant projects in the field of Operations
Management, Business Consulting, and Marketing.
I declare my support for the formation of a committee on Social Concern and
Involvement. I believe that this will empower, and provide avenues for ateneans in
different fields to participate in Nation Building.
Through my tenure, I shall advocate for a more representative, independent and
socially aware Sanggunian through the commitment, and practice of social
democratic ideals in spite of the seemingly contradicting ideals of my course.

I enjoy dancing, listening to music, watching movies

and playing at mineski. I

My platform is correlated with assisting math-major students, especially my

coursemates, to be able to cope and survive to their respective courses and the same
time improve departmental relations to further solidify the foundation of incoming
and current freshmen for college. Its aim is to be able to reconstruct open houses
and promoting math-major courses for incoming freshmen to further improve their
discernment about courses and college.
An issue that I would like to address is concerned with the lack of discernment of
incoming freshmen about their courses. One of the main concerns of my fellow
course mates is about the open houses. We do feel that open houses are not enough
as we find some information vague. To start with, in open houses, a guest speaker
from the upper batch has given his lifestyle in college and how they have dealt with
their courses. Yes, those prove to help us learn more about our course, but that does
not entirely provide the gist of what is to come. Having one
perspective does not sum up the entire college as he only has his own opinion to
provide. To deal with this issue, It would be more effective if a community of math
majors are there to give and share their own opinions about college
and their respective math-major course. An effective way for a proper discernment
about courses is a communitybased program to guide them about what college
really is about.
To suggest a community for those who are interested in taking math-major courses,
AMS is a great example of a math-community who is willing to help others about
their respective courses. AMS currently do not have this program of gathering
incoming freshmen learn more about math-major courses. So to prevent future
freshmen from doubting about taking math-major courses, it would be best that
such math communities are there to provide more information about their courses.
Furthermore, the math department has their new thrust this year to promote
mathmajor courses by creating events for grades 11 and 12 for them to be able to
learn more about their courses. Although the math department currently do not
have plans for this, such collaboration with the math department
would be effective for us to initiate and execute such platform of solidifying the
foundation of incoming freshmen.
The platform presented values the availability of choice of students for their future
courses as well as proper discernment of future batches about their course. All
students have the right to have a sharp perspective of what college is and what they
will tackle with their choice of course.

UNITY BETWEEN SANGGUNIAN AND STUDENTS

This year, I plan to connect the students to Sanggunian, especially when
they need help in a specific thing that cant be accomplished by themselves or
an event that could only be accomplished when a group of people participates
or takes account. I wanted them to feel that the people in Sanggunian are just
like them, students, who fight for students rights. What I am seeing right now
that breaks the unity between the Sanggu and the student is the disparity
when it comes to the levels, meaning how they look towards Sanggu. Some
people tend to get scared especially when theres a huge gap when it comes to
power. This year, I wanted to let them feel that were all equal and Sanggu is
always there for them when they needed help. I wanted them to gain more
trust when it comes to Sanggunian and achieve unity throughout the whole
school year.
TEAMWORK AND POWER
I plan to connect the AMF blocks to Sanggunian and to the Math
department, since I believe that Sanggunian could help them whenever they
encounter problems and hindrances in their academics. I plan to do this by
setting an IC with the mathematics department chair whenever my
batchmates have different concerns when it comes to things. I would also tell
them (my batchmates) to approach me whenever they have problems so that
I could tell Sanggunian or the Math department immediately so it could be
resolved at ease. The major problem that the students are facing, especially in
their AMF lives, is academics, like they have feelings of shifting out, or they dont
know what to do. As a course representative, I would offer help to them by firstly
setting an IC with them to get to know what their problems are and what do
they want to do with it, then I will forward it to either the Sanggunian or the
Math Department depending on how heavy the problem is. Moreover, I plan to
make them feel that we are a one whole family, and make them feel that
Sanggunian and the Math Department are always there for them whenever
they need help.

Free Electives for BS APS-MSE

Currently, there are no free electives in the BS APS-MSE curriculum. However,
there is a large number of students interested in fields beyond the sciences, such as
theatre and literature. The addition of free electives for the new version of the
curriculum for BS APS-MSE will allow students who are interested in the Humanities
or Social Sciences to be able to take courses that will hone their skills, without the
need for a minor. In addition, this is also in line with Ateneos thrust of holistic
formation of its students.
LGBTQ++ Pride Week
In order to make the awareness toward their community a University wide
effort, an institutionalized LGBTQ++ Pride Week will help promote awareness
towards the community. This project will help the already open community become
even more appreciating of its diversity.
Sanggunian Website
In line with its revamping, the Sanggunian needs a more prominent online
presence just as much as a physical presence in the Loyola Schools. To support the
Sanggunians online efforts, a formal online portal and website will be needed. The
website will act as an official liaison between the Sanggunian and its constituents.

Freshmen Chemistry students have been faced with a heavy workload

that seems to shock fellow freshmen and upperclassmen alike. Due to this, I
would very much like to put forward the future issues that the said students
will face, caused by the extreme amount of work. These students are facing a
major change in their lives in the form of transitioning from high school to
college which makes the aforementioned workload even more difficult to
deal with. As course representative, I will make absolutely sure that freshmen
Chemistry students are well informed of projects and programs that will help
them cope with this problem that they face.
An arguably even more important issue that I would like to address as
course representative is the wellbeing, whether it be physical or mental, of
freshmen Chemistry students. Good physical and mental health are required
in order for these students to perform to the best of their ability, something
which they all wish to do. I will do everything that I can in order to bridge the
gap between these students and the Sanggunian so that any issues
concerning their wellbeing can be quickly and directly addressed.

The Union of Students for the Advancement of Democracy (USAD) believes in

a student government that is oriented towards genuine democratic governance,
one that addresses the needs of the student body and the social community we
belong to. Our Party thus runs in this elections with an agenda to deepen our
democracy in in every aspect. More than an institution or process, we view
democracy as a way of life which must be embodied by those that strive for positions
within our Student Government. This necessitates a genuinely representative
Sanggunian, one that recognizes the need to understand the development process
and addresses issues of development. The Course Representatives role is crucial in
realizing this for the Course Representative is mandated by the Constitution to act
not only as a liaison between my constituency and department but also in
formulating and implementing policies, stands, resolutions, and programs on the
Sanggunians behalf.
As such, as the 5 Chemistry with Materials Science and Engineering Course
Representative, I shall push for financial transparency and a more efficient,
participatory budgeting system in the Loyola Schools, and improve student welfare.
The Chemistry Department of the Ateneo, as well as other departments in the
School of Science and Engineering are underfunded: many laboratories have lacking
and/or outdated equipment and instruments necessary for the proper teaching and
use of laboratory techniques, denying students quality education. This situation
seems to be unjust, seeing as the LS tuition has increased steadily over the years. I
will lobby for two things: first, that the LS and its constituent departments should
publish an annual report containing the budget of the year (whether online through
the Ateneo website or in print in the Guidon) even before the holding of the
Magtanong sa VP at mga Dekano, and second, that the student body should have
the power to confirm tuition increases . Furthermore, I will lobby for an increase in
the allocation of the LS budget for theChemistry Department and for the SOSE in
general . Budget deliberations should include the Sanggunian.
Importantly, there needs to be studentfriendlymechanisms for consultation
with departments in the Ateneo, especially with their home department. Students
should havethe right to complain about teachers and staff through safe avenues.
The Sanggunian should ensure that conflicts between students and faculty are
resolved fairly by appointing independent observers that monitor complaints until
their resolution, and follow up if necessary. The observers should have the power to
collect evidence of possible repercussions of the complaints made and present
them to appropriate disciplinary committees. This is in view of creating an
atmosphere where students can take control of their learning experience, with the
help of the departments in the LS.

In the upcoming Sanggunian, I aim to be a part of the student government as

a course representative of the students of the BS Computer Science batch
2018/2019 for S.Y. 2016-2017.
My plan as a course representative is to be open to all the concerns of my
constituents. However, I aim not to leave it as just a survey, and just collecting
responses. I plan on learning and understanding these concerns through personal
meetings and intervention. Through this effort, I aim to establish a personal
connection between Sanggunian and my constituents, because the Sanggunian is
not only composed of officers elected into office, but also by the students in which
the officers try to best represent their interest.
As the concerns and information are collated, I can assure more immediate
action on these concerns. Now that there is a more personal connection between
the Sanggunian and the student body, with me as a medium, there is a more precise
interpretation of the constituents concerns and information. With a more precise
interpretation, these issues can be addressed more clearly to the student
government.
And since course representatives also play a role in the formulation and
implementation of rules, resolutions, and etc., there concerns can already be acted
upon through a rational and methodological process, under lawful guidance.

Interests:

I love being in the company of people especially those

closest to me. I like keeping myself busy which would

Strength despite numbers. Being a part of the only block in BS Health

Sciences, it is without a doubt that our batch is one of the smallest. We will not,
however, treat this as a setback, because what we lack in number, we certainly make
up for in heart.
A lot is in store for us freshmen here in the Ateneo. As an aspiring leader for
my block, I found solace in knowing that my blockmates wholeheartedly
encouraged and supported me to run as their representative. I truly saw how they
invested their trust in me and my capabilities in fulfilling the task at hand. I will, to
the best of my abilities, provide them with the leadership and support that are for
the betterment of the block. Rest assured, I will always do my best to exceed their
expectations.
As of now, all I know is that I do have experience in leading a community. All
of the skills that I have instilled in me will surely be brought along with in my whole
term.
As a freshman, I have no specific programs that I could establish for our block
but as of now, my goal is to ensure that the block gets its benefits from The
Sanggunian and that their concerns will be raised when needed. A bridge from the
block to Sanggunian is my goal as of the moment but of course as the days come,
situations may change and advocacies may need to be given more focus. This may
be tantamount to maybe, collection of funds, programs, sessions (tutoring,
consultation, evaluation), or anything that could help and benefit the block just as
the Health Sciences whole course does to its students.. These things may not only
be business or academic related. I, with the help of my blockmates, may also plan
non-school related things like hangouts, dinners, sports, etc.
Although I am running as the Course Representative, this does not mean that
I shall focus on the interests of my course alone. If elected, I am aware that the course
of action I plan to take must not only benefit my coursemates, but the other
members of the Ateneo community as well.
Despite being a freshman myself, I know that I do have experience in leading
but college is a whole new experience and with that comes a whole new learning

but college is a whole new experience and with that comes a whole new learning
experience. Not a lot has been said here but as the days go by, Im sure my
knowledge on college life will blossom and I will be more aware of the things around
us. From the observations I and the concerns said by my fellow blockmates, I can
initiate a plan that would eventually become a reality that would satisfy or answer
the concerns of my peers.
I plan and hope to accomplish all of these as a freshman. In my first year of
college, I know I will stumble or fall along the way, but I know that my resilience will
allow me to stand and walk taller than before all for my course and the Ateneo.

Plans
A. Deployment opportunities

As course representatives, we seek to find ways to share the public

health advocacy of Health Sciences to the student body by providing HSci
members with the opportunity to get out there. This entails project partnerships
with health-oriented organizations:
1. DReaM Team
a) Relief ops and disaster management
2. Medical-relation issues
a) Collaboration with health cluster orgs on various projects
B. (re)Integrating the Sanggunian arm of Course Representatives into the

majors for one term, they are also obliged to guide and help the representatives
that will come after them.
1. Creation of an online database (GDrive) where minutes of
important meetings, memorandums and policies are to be
uploaded. This is for the benefit of the next course
representatives.
2. Working closely with MemRel and PHrel to seek out potential

I am comfortable in working alone and in groups. I am

independent, disciplined, manage my time well. I
possess determination in enhancing and learning
more skills. I like doing things more than what is
expected of me. I have three major languages and an
ample background in conversational German and
Spanish.

Interests:

I enjoy travelling abroad, going on food trips, listening

to dancing, listening to music, watching movies and tv
series, shopping and makeup. I also socializing and
meeting new people.

Communication is one of the key elements of a good relationship. For the past
years, communication between Health Sciences and the Sanggunian has not been
so effective. I believe that this can be improved for the good of both thus my interest
to run as a representative of my course. It is my sincere intention to establish better
communication lines between the two for a free exchange of ideas and for better
execution of plans and solutions. I would ensure first and foremost that concerns are
elevated to the right channels and are addressed accordingly.
I envision for the Health Sciences majors to be socially aware and involved. I
will ensure that there will be avenue for their voices will be heard. Their opinions,
suggestions, and commentaries will be listened to and acted upon. When programs
and legislations are lobbied, I will encourage cooperation of the students and see to
it that they are involved in the decision-making. Empowerment and support is also
a big factor considering that some have become indifferent towards school matters.
This empowerment can also lead to bigger heights when they will be given the
capability to make changes in the current structures.
Belonging to a larger school (SOSE) entails team work in bringing together the
group. One of the concerns in previous years is the lack of bond with other courses
but these will be addressed. I will be working closely together with fellow course
representatives under SOSE to make opportunities that will strengthen the
community and be more engaged in school wide activities. Furthermore, there will
be avenues like career fairs that will help the the upper batches to prepare
themselves for future careers or life after college. Obstacles such as advisements
before start of every semester will be improved and regulated in order to give the
students and the respective departments a more efficient and hassle-free
enlistment.

These efforts will be made possible through synergy between the student
government and the home org who will work hand-in-hand for the welfare and
enrichment of the students while keeping the goals of the school intact. In
representing the Health Sciences, its endeavors, and interest, I will coordinate with
the student government while integrating the courses thrust of being dynamic
leaders, decisive social catalysts, and outstanding health professionals.

organized. I make sure that my tasks are
scheduled so I wont have the need to cram. I
also have the ability to work well in groups or
solo. If ever issues do arise, I do as much as
possible get it solved quickly and efficiently.

Interests:

Traveling have always been a favorite of mine.

Learning new cultures and meeting new people
are things that I appreciate too. The main things
I do though to relax and have fun are watching
movies and tv shows, listening to music,
cooking with friends and bonding with the
family.

To be heard, to be united and to create ripples- those are the things that I
aim for all BS LfSci students to achieve. With a series of plans, I truly believe that
my coursemates and I can reach these objectives. We have the heart and mind for
it and all we need is just an extra push to act on it thats when the course
representative comes in. If elected, I will not only give my coursemates the chance
to take part in the issues today, but to also give them the encouragement that they
need for us to be heard even more in the Sanggunian and the Ateneo community.
The following ideas I have for the next school year are listed below:
Even if we may be aware of issues around the Philippines, we may
tend to forget the next step acting. Partnering up with BOx, the home
organization of the Bio/LfSci community, to perform various projects that
addresses the issues on biodiversity will help the LfSci students become who
they were meant to be agents of change and improvement nationwide.
Not only that, but this will also strengthen the bonds of the home
organization, the Sanggunian and of the BS LfSci students.
Having access towards the database full of past problem sets for Math
has been a problem for the past year. I have heard complaints about this and
I plan to address this issue by fixing this database and its dissemination, if
allowed, in order to help other students deal with their academic needs as
much as possible.
In order to hear my coursemates complaints, comments, and
suggestions, I plan on sending out surveys every 2-3 months to get as much
information as possible. It would not only help me find ways to address these
issues, but it will also give my coursemates the idea that the Sanggunian is
concerned and cares for their welfare.
Being the bridge between the Sanggunian and the home
department, it is my job, if elected, to keep a healthy relationship between
the two. In order to address this, I am willing to have weekly/monthly
meetings with the home department to disseminate the information about
the plans the Sanggunian has for the student body and to listen to the
comments and suggestions the home dapartment has for the students so
we can work together to help the BS LfSci students.
The main aspect that I want to focus on is to strengthen the bonds of
all LfSci students. This may be done through having team-building activities
inside and/or outside school. We may also have welcoming events for
shiftees for them to feel how its like to be a BS LfSci student. Its for the
students to feel that they have the support system they need as they embark
their journey towards being future

their journey towards being future scientists, businessmen/women, and

doctors of the Philippines.
Since the constitution is now different, I want to be part of the transformation the
Sanggunian wants to achieve. I want to rekindle the importance of the Sanggunian
and its relevance to the Ateneo community. I want the student body to see that
the Sanggunian is more than merely a student council it is a group of able
students that aims to fight for what is right for the student body. With this, I want
to run as the course representative of BS Life Sciences because I believe that I can
continue and improve the efforts that the Sanggunian is doing for the student
body today.

I enjoy meeting new people.

Course Camaraderie: Blocks only last until the end of sophomore year; it
would not be long when classes in particular subjects are held differently in
different blocks. In preparation of such, as well as to foster unity as a course,
block interaction and bonding would serve as a pivot point in bringing the
course together. Although certain subjects, like majors, differ in classes per
block, the unity from the course would bring everyone together into helping
out in the simplest ways. This would be an initiative to be held and promoted
efficiently with the cooperation of each block through block interaction and
online groups involvement.
Grounded Relationship With The Home Depatment: Although the home
organization exists to cater the needs of the students from the Biology
Department, the Sanggunian is present to address concerns and requests for
assistance of its constituents. As a liaison between the home department and
the Sanggunian, the course representatives should update the home
department regularly with necessary information from the Sanggunian;
likewise, the regular update should also constitute in getting to know the
department through healthy communication with the Department Chair and
Department Secretary.
Welcoming The Shiftees: Notably, the course welcomed a good amount of
shiftees for the school year. However, there was no public announcement or
recognition of who they were or what blocks they belong to. As such, there
should be proper recognition and transparency within the course itself, which
we, as students of Life Sciences, should be aware that there are new people to
welcome and integrate within the course. A formal announcement should be
made in order to recognize the shiftees; this should also include a point person
per block that would help the shiftees introduce themselves and adjust to a
new environment.
Batch Drive: The course can help each other review for different subjects and
provide everyone with the resource material that they would find by
categorizing these materials in online cloud storage. Each subject can have its
own folder wherein the students can upload any resources that they have in
order to help other coursemates.
Tutoring Services: The batch can hold reviews for different tests, such as
departmental final exams, to be able to help everyone prepare accordingly.
Moreover, those that would need additional help can be guided by several
point persons, weather they may be of the same course or not, that would be
tapped into tutoring these students.

My name is Luigi Montemayor, and I am vying for the position of Course

Representative in the Sanggunian ng mga Paaralang Loyola ng Ateneo de
Manila. I believe that I will thrive in this position because my missions, which I
choose to uphold and fulfill once elected, is to revamp or optimize information
dissemination, start changes that only elected representatives can perform,
and to unite my coursemates into a family.
Information dissemination is a given task of all elected course
representatives, which is to simply give the news and updates of the
Sanggunian to each constituent of the student body. However, the way that I
want to uphold this responsibility is to make it happen both ways. Not only
will the constituents be updated with all the information needed to be
disseminated, but to let their voices, cries, and wishes to be heard by the
appropriate authorities and figures.
The change that I wish to start is not one that has to end with my term,
but something that all those who follow and come after me to uphold and
maybe someday finish when all has been done. For my term, I wish to establish
a connection between the administrators and the students under the
Department of Biology, with the goal of one day influencing the upper
echelon to provide the students with more advanced facilities and
equipment. Not only will this benefit the students in their studies, but will also
entail better research and theses that the school can publicize.
Lastly, although it sounds corny and cheesy, I found a family in my
course, and all I want to do for them is to give them the best as well as to bring
them closer. To do so, it can be as simple as participating in seasonal festivities,
to something like inter-block competitions or hangouts. All of these, I promise
to start and uphold, if elected for the position that I long to hold.

In my 18-month term as a block representative, I have learned a lot. I believe that

my long experience will be of great use to the next Sanggunian.
On advisement. I plan to help push mandatory advisements just after the
midterms season so as to catch the class-making period. This may start to be
implemented in my home department at first, then would spread to the school and
eventually, to all of the Loyola schools. At its core, the ultimate goal of this would be
to provide students with the academic freedom they deserve by making the right
number of classes with the right number of slots for enlistment periods.
On Concern Processsing. I believe that at the core of concern processing is the
representative, for it is to him or her that his or her course mates rant to and talk to
about their problems. My plan is to empower the representative with the capacity
to adjust to the situation and context of the concern being forwarded to them by
giving them a simple guidebook that they can take with them anywhere. Another
option would be to give them workshops that would help give them first-hand
experiences of dealing with concerns from their constituents.
On Sanggu Marketing. It is my belief that students do care about the
Sanggunian, only that it is nowhere near the top of their priority list for them to
voluntarily ask questions. So again, my solution is to empower the representatives
by giving them the capacity to answer any inquiries that their constituents might
have on the Sanggunian through workshops.

I am experienced in working on my own and with a group of

people. I am passionate about in what I do. I am quite
knowledgeable with the Mandarin. I know how to write

As an aspiring representative for Chinese Studies, I believe that I should push

for the well-being of my constituents and help in advancing their beliefs and
advocacies; and mine as well. I believe that in a Sanggunian that is truly
representative wherein it puts high premium on its capacity to push for changes
that will affect the student body at large.
I want to push for a Curricular Review for Chinese Studies especially that last
year there has been a change in the Core Curriculum. My course might have three
distinct tracks--- Social Sciences, Humanities, and Business --- however there has
been a lack of specialized subjects especially in the Social Sciences Track. It being
Social Sciences, I am conflicted by the notion that it only has one Economic Course
and Political Course, which are both considered to be part of the present Core
Curriculum. The rationale to this is that, given the changes; it will allow an approach
for Chinese Studies to become more interdisciplinary as an approach therefore it
gives way for my constituents to pursue
As an aspiring Course Representative, I also understand its capacity to legislate
and press for changes that are backed by resolutions. I envision a Sanggunian that
is open and pushing for various advocacies of its own and its constituents, therefore
I want to create a Committee on Advocacy. This specific committee is tasked on
hearing the possible advocacies that are being pushed for by the representatives of
the Sanggunian and those that were brought to them by their constituents. This in
a decentralization in essence, but it is beneficial for the School Assemblies and
Central Assembly. They will focus in making sure that such advocacies will find its
their avenue to thrive and make better the plane of possibilities in the LS
Community.
Lastly, I want to push for the institutionalizing of the Mental Health
Awareness, as a matured version of the MHAW (Mental Health Awareness Week)
2016. Its purpose is to back MHAW 2016 by a resolution. It seeks to continue the
effort that has been set to motion last April. It shall continue its sense of creation,
which is to make the Ateneo an environment that is not merely sensitive but
genuinely empathetic. My vision for it is not just to be a one-week thing but a

I am organized, goal-oriented, and committed to my

work.
I can work both as a member or a leader. When
given a task, whether it be an individual or group work,
I see to it that progress is done with efficiency. I can
perform and execute tasks and responsibilities well
despite being under a significant amount of stress or
pressure. Aside from that, I am creative and skilled at
programs such as Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.

As a candidate for 2 AB Communication Course Representative, my focus is

on the empowerment of my constituents through their academics and the student
body through their advocacies. First, I plan to propose that the Communication
Department should make advisement mandatory for students as a way for them to
gauge how many students are taking each track and to know how many classes they
are supposed to open for students given that Interdisciplinary Studies majors also
take Communication classes because of the Communication track they offer. This is
a step towards fixing the track system that the Communication Department has
been implementing. The track system has been seen as insignificant by the
Communication upperclassmen due to the fact that they are not guaranteed slots
for classes under their chosen track. It has been used only to gauge how many
classes they are supposed to open for students. Thus, there is a loss in the chance to
pursue what the students really want to study. Given that my batch is to choose their
tracks this year, I wanted to push for the fixing of this track system. Consulting with
the Communication Department, along with the Interdisciplinary Studies
Department, to know why their current system works the way that it does, what are
the ways that it could be fixed, and again, proposing the system of mandatory
advisement to help in resolving the issue would be my first step towards achieving
this plan.
Second, I want to continue the success of the first Mental Health Awareness
Week (MHAW) last year. Mental health continues to be a taboo topic in and outside
Ateneo and this calls for the continuation of MHAW. As one of the project heads last
year, we pushed for awareness of mental health and the promotion of an
environment in campus that promotes mental health. This year, I plan to focus on a
more active involvement of the student body, both in participation and planning of
the event. I want the focus of this years MHAW to be empowerment of advocates of
mental health to continue to push for their advocacy and I want them to do it
through this event. I want to make the student body the main partner of the
Sanggunian for Mental Health Awareness Week 2017 to give them the avenue to
step up and pursue their advocacy.

I have been exposed to project management inside

and outside of Ateneo. Im a type of person who can
weigh her priorities, can balance academics and orgs,
and is flexible to any type of job given.

As a previous block representative, I saw and still see the Sanggunian as an

avenue for students concerns to be forwarded and addressed. My Sanggunian
journey has been an eye opener as I noticed that my constituents have a handful of
concerns. This is where the Sanggunian comes in because I think these concerns
should be addressed as soon as possible. Thus, my platform will focus on
empowering my constituents and the student body in terms of letting their
concerns be heard and eventually working with each other to address these
problems. Also, there is empowerment when it comes to partnering with
organizations outside of the Sanggunian to help in lobbying solutions of the student
bodys concerns. Moreover, my constituents may be the future diplomats of the
country and since our program is fairly new, empowering them through addressing
concerns of the curriculum will benefit them in the long run.
1.

FLC for Dip IR majors (Curriculum Review)

Starting sophomore year, Dip IR majors are required to take 12 units of Chinese,
Japanese or Korean since one of the programs objectives is that the students should
have a proficiency with any of the language stated. This is in line with the vision of
the program for its students to be able to successfully take the Department of
Foreign Affairs Foreign Service Exams which is a pre-requisite in becoming an
ambassador of the country. However, there lies a problem with the curriculum
wherein there are no specific syllabi for Dip IR majors especially those with no
background for these languages. With this, I propose to create tailor made syllabi in
corporation with professionals who may have an experience in creating the
proficiency test portion of the said exams. This solution can be effective as it will
prepare the Dip IR majors for the Foreign Service Exams.
Another problem with the FLC system for Dip IR students is the languages
themselves. Furthermore, Korean is being offered to students but it is not an option
for the Foreign Service Exams proficiency test portion. This is a problem because
students who are taking Korean but will eventually decide to take the Foreign
Service Exams cannot take the said exam. To avoid this problem, the program can
review its language offerings and make sure it is in line with the Foreign Service
Exams language options. Furthermore, I propose to study whether it is applicable
to either replace or add an option of having Bahasa Indonesia as one of the required
majors for Dip IR students. I think that this should be taken into consideration as
Bahasa Indonesia is one of the options for the Foreign Service Exams and it is also
within the programs specialization which is East and Southeast Asian Studies.

2.

AISIS Upgrade

Everyone goes through enlistment and AISIS is the place they do so. However,
concerns have been raised in terms of the sites inefficiency such as situations
wherein a student must update his or her student information before his or her
enlistment but some contact details will not be accepted by the website. To alleviate
this problem, I propose to lobby for a user-friendly interface of the website in
partnership with certain organizations. This new interface may include fixtures to
address the problem stated and new features such as removing classes with zero
slots in the enlistment option for hassle free enlistment.
3.

Concerns System

There are a handful of concerns from the student body and they range from general
to case to case basis concerns. One of the jobs of a course representative is to forward
their constituents concerns to the Sanggunian. However, there is a flaw in the past
administration wherein the representatives of each block or course do not know
where to forward the concerns after asking or receiving them from their
constituents. Thus, these concerns will not be addressed. It is alarming that these
concerns are not being addressed because some of these concerns have a sense of
urgency that need to be addressed as soon as possible. To address this problem, I
propose to create protocols for these representatives to follow so that the
constituents concerns (mostly case to case basis) can be addressed effectively.
Furthermore, I also propose that there can be a committee or task force in the
Sanggunian that can address the general concerns especially those with urgency.

b. The steps needed to apply for a minor,
c. The steps and requirements needed to shift to another course.
2. Calls upon the need to improve sanitation services and the assortment of

through, but is not limited to:
a. The provision of tissue rolls in bathroom stalls,
b. Cleaning and refurbishing the shower stalls, especially the ones provided

c. The addition of air-conditioning units in on-campus dormitories,
d. The establishment of more food stalls that cater to healthier foods, such as
fruits and vegetables.
3. Deeply concerned about the amount of half-cuts and cuts that some of my

My main platforms for running as the course representative of AB

Economics is to properly focus the attention of my fellow block mates, so that
even though we may be divided into our own separate endeavors, we may have
the ability to come together as a block to be involved and helpful members of
the school and society as a whole. Steps to achieve this platform would be for
members of the block to join orgs like Kythe or AEA so that they may deepen
their understanding of the current economic and socio-political situations of
the current world, and develop empathy for those who are less fortunate then
us. This platform us a stepping stone for members of my block and the other
people of AB Economics to grow and learn to eventually be men and women
for others.
My other platform is to foster close relationships between the two blocks
of F and F1. Seeing as these two hold largely the same type of classes and share
similar schedules, it would be beneficial to be able to rely on one another to learn
and progress in Ateneo. This will help students in the course to power through
obstacles that they encounter in their education by giving them a support group
to help them study, as well as giving them a circle of friends that they will be

Interests:

I enjoy general research, role-playing, reading articles

and writing fiction. I barely hesitate to learn a new
craft or do volunteer work. Also, I love talking and
connecting with people with all sorts of backgrounds.

Foster Inclusivity and Compassion

I firmly believe that inclusivity is an integral part to any working environment,
especially in an academic environment. As a university, the Ateneo inherits a social
aspect which plays a vital role in a students academic life. However, being social
excluded and/or socially stigmatized could lead to disadvantages in ones academic
career especially in the cases of group works and projects. I have seen several
instances of people mocking, groaning or ignoring someone because their lack of
social ability despite little-to-none direct social interaction. Additionally, one does
not have to be mocked or ridiculed in order to feel socially excluded. A lack of a
social group can also lead to feelings of exclusion which also may present the same
effects. The inclusion and feeling of belonging can lead to increased productivity,
development of lasting personal relationships, and positive understanding of the
self and others.
I believe that by allowing and fostering wider communications within my
course, it would allow for a greater solidarity and comfort levels for the students
within the course. Should I be elected, I strive to foster relationships both with the
shiftees, who are yet to know other members of my course, and my coursemates.
However, this project is already underway whether or not I will be elected or not.
Additionally, I would be able to create simple projects that promote trust and
inclusivity such a course directory and arrangements for bonding events. Of course,
I strive to act as a role-model for inclusivity and act with kindness, politeness and
compassion.
Providing Guidance, Service, and Empowerment to Individuals
Not all our needs can be met through wide-sweeping projects. I believe that
an effective leader listens to and works with the ones they serve. It is believed that a
lot of problematic cases, especially psychological and structural ones, are
underreported due to personal refusal to report or talk about it. I would be able to
both promote awareness for several of the more underreported problems such as
mental health and abuse issues, and allow for personal consultation.
The idea for personal consultation is to allow those who wish to rant, let out

The idea for personal consultation is to allow those who wish to rant, let out
their feelings, or share their troubles to have a way to seek guidance and advice
without getting the Guidance Council involved. This is especially effective in the
cases of less severe issues such as school work trouble, relationship turbulence, and
non-threatening personal issues.

This is not to say that general education and advice is not effective. On the
contrary, personal consultations are effective for individual issues that are unique to
the person but general awareness and advice allows for a wide spread of
information and guidance. We should share things such as mental health
awareness, deep probing yet motivational philosophy, skill articles and advice, etc.
as it disseminates formative information to create a better generation.
I propose to do all this by promoting my schedule and number then allowing
students to contact me so they may be able to entrust me with their problems, with
the added possibility of resolution. Additionally, a heightened use of social media
must be utilized so that events, images, video, etc. can be effectively be seen by a
wide number of students. One of such shared promotions would be an anonymous
complaints box in which students would be able to share their problems via Google
form which then I would check in and do my best in resolving the issue within
ethical and moral limits. Finally, my own increased sociability towards my
coursemates would act as another way of furthering the platforms. Should I be
elected, I vow to uphold my platforms and I never break my promises.

had a classical recital as a guitarist. The longest sports

Agenda
My platforms will focus on student empowerment and Sanggunian
representative transparency. As a course representative, I have the obligation to
maintain the well-being of my fellow coursemates but sometimes that involves
maintaining the welfare of other courses as well, not only because they are taking
Economics electives/minors but because we are all part of the Ateneo Community.
Therefore, my agenda as a representative is to become part of the new and
improved Sanggunian that looks over the entire Ateneo Community under the light
and focus of the Economics course and perspective.

1st Platform: Economics Diversity

My first platform is to promote Economics Diversity to the Ateneo. I want to
make sure that my coursemates can pursue their passions and/or interests that
involve the field of Economics. For example, an Economics student wishes to study
in the Ateneo Law school but because of the curriculum revisions there will be a
decrease in Literature units; therefore, he/she will have to take a minor in Literature
so that she can be accepted in the Ateneo Law School. There are many other fields
that Economics can integrate with other disciplines such as political sciences
where people can work in government agencies, health sciences will give a
different perspective on how to improve the medical welfare of people that are not

different perspective on how to improve the medical welfare of people that are not
covered by doctors and medicine and with that I want my fellow course mates to
have an edge or at least gain basic knowledge in fields that they will follow in the
future.
In order to make this feasible, I plan to increase the free elective units or add
interdisciplinary units to my course which will entice my fellow coursemates to
take minors or engage in other fields of perspective that economics can integrate
itself. Adding a few elective subjects in the curriculum for 3rd and 4th year wont
necessarily be a burden to my coursemates since there are

2nd Platform: Extra-Curricular Involvement

The Ateneo De Manila University has 53 accredited organizations, more than
15 unaccredited organizations, clubs, varsities and many more extra-curricular
activities that widen the Atenean culture and mold the character of a student
through traits and skills that may be garnered outside of the 4 walls of a classroom.
I hope to create better incentives and a better environment for Ateneans who are
juggling both their academics and trying their best to do more than what is
expected of them as students. In turn, this will hopefully encourage Ateneans to
partake in these ever-growing University spirit that make our university great.
Aside from the scholars discount during recruitment week of the accredited
organizations, I plan to lobby for scholar subsidies where 1-2 stubs will be given to
scholars that will grant them a free admission to organization/s they wish to join.
This will hopefully encourage more scholars to be part of more organizations that
theyve mistaken to be costly or are unsure of joining without the burden of
thinking much on the simple admission cost.
For unaccredited organizations, I plan on coordinating with the Coalition of
the Organizations in the Ateneo (COA) on giving minimal assistance towards
unaccredited organizations. Even though unaccredited organizations do not fall in
the Constitution of COA, I dont believe that unaccredited organizations are useless
for Ateneans because unaccredited organizations are simply still in the infant
stage and are on their way to becoming fully fledged organized group of students
for change. I envision COA helping these unaccredited organizations through
assisting them in foundational workcreating guiding principles and internal
protocols without having to interfere with the advocacies that the unaccredited
organizations must seek for themselves.
Lastly, I hope to improve the conditions of our athletes and/or any competing

Lastly, I hope to improve the conditions of our athletes and/or any competing
groups under Ateneo, most especially non-UAAP athletes who are not only training
hard but are also fighting to improve the sport they love here in the Ateneo. Not all
sports or competing groups that represent the Ateneo are recognized properly or
even receive the adequate aid they need to perform their respective sports despite
having the varsity title that theyve earned. Therefore, I plan to help jumpstart the
recognition for these athletes as a sector here in the Ateneo where they can
coordinate with the Sanggunian to create a better environment for them.
Alternatively, there is also the possibility of giving the athletes their own Magna

Carta that recognizes both the demanding requirements of an athlete as well as

prioritizing their own welfare.
3rd Platform: Sanggunian Internals and Transparency
The Sanggunian is the sole autonomous student government of Ateneo de
Manila, and therefore has to make sure that internal processes are working before
the institution can engage in its truest purpose of serving the Ateneo Community
and beyond. If I become a course representative, I plan on creating procedures or
simply briefing Course Representatives in a GA like setting about things to follow
whenever they deal with concerns or simply which proper bodies to redirect
constituents from any sector or student. These procedures may be guiding
principles or laid-down protocols which hopefully incorporate all 4 step-by-step
procedures for (1) filtering concerns, (2) investigating of concerns, (3) solutions or
resolution discernment, and (4) follow-through check-up. Since Course
Representatives will be at the forefront to looking over the students, it is only
fitting that Course Representatives be molded early on with the knowledge of their
potential in order for the to maximize themselves and be perceptive of the realities
around them.
Finally, I want to give Sanggunian the image of being a formal, yet very
welcoming institution which is made up of students just like the regular Atenean.
This is so that constituents will easily approach our Student Representatives
knowing that they can entrust their concerns to us. Hopefully, through having
transparency in multiple aspects such as posting our structure with members on
Facebook, EDSA Board, and possibly other possible platforms plus sharing the
Sanggunians past political accomplishments we can not only showcase a positive
impression towards the constituents but also gain their trust in giving the
Sanggunian a chance to address their problems.

Reevaluation of Retention System

The policy for the Retention System for this course (AB Management
Economics) devalues the students rights. It is stated that the minimum unweighted
average a student must attain for all Mathematics subjects (namely MA11 and
MA20) should be at least a 1.50. However, there was an incident where a student
that acquired a failing grade of 0.0 (F) in MA20 was given a second chance to retake
the subject and stay in the said course, while someone who was able to attain a
passing grade of 1.0 (D) was forced to shift out because they failed to comply the
necessary minimum unweighted average. This situation completely defeats the
purpose of the retention system. This policy should be revised and reexamined
because it is contradictory and illogical. It takes out the rights of the students who
strive to stay in the course and it discourages them from bringing out their full
potential. This can be achieved through data collection, legislation of policies
through Sanggunian, and following through with the administration.
Efficiency of Shifting to Management Economics
The system of shifting to Management Economics is slightly problematic as
there is a lack of cohesion between the departments involved (namely the ADAA
and Economics Department) especially regarding advancement of subjects (namely
MA20). A more efficient process of shifting into the course is necessary. Policies and
protocol between departments must be clear and organized for the benefit of the
students shifting to the course. This is necessary to ensure the fulfillment of
requirements of both the departments and the students.
Better Dissemination of Information
In line with the above mentioned, better dissemination of information
regarding the retention system and shifting requirements of the course should be
greatly enforced. Pertinent information should be easily accessible to the students
to ensure cohesion and organization. A website containing all the information such
as retention, shifting, and other important announcements can be a possible
solution to the problem. Through the Sanggunian, ensuring that the students are
informed should be top priority. Assigning a point person for each block can also be
added in order to guarantee the proper spread of information.

We have noticed that the student body is uninformed about its student leadership.
They tend tend to rely more on their orgs than their student government. This is a
problem, for the student government and the student body. We must show that
the Sanggunian is there, that it creates multiple opportunities for students to grow
spiritually and as a student. We must show that the student body is more than just
another department in The Ateneo. We must show that Sanggunian cares for the
students well-being and must present to the students and the Ateneo community
that the Sanggunian holds authority and power.
We feel that as political science students there must always be a person in
Sanggunian
representing us, especially since we are supposed to be politically inclined. So it is
our duty as course reps to help our constituents see the importance of the student
body to their course. Considering that we are the future leaders or lawyers of the
country.
We want to promote political Awareness and Involvement as our first advocacy.
We would like to propose a project that would help us push our advocacy.
Project Sanggunian Week / Political Awareness Week
A week where Sanggunian celebrates its past achievements and a week where
Sanggunian can show these past and future projects to the student body. There
will be
seminars from current and past politicians. Talks from past Sanggunian member to
share
their experience with the incoming members of the student body. These projects
can help people see the importance of the student body to their college life and
help them feel more involved in its affairs. The project can be done together with
the help of certain organizations such as the Ateneo Assembly. It will also help
empower the students in relation to their course(Political Science) since they get
first hand experience from different perspectives.

The Union of Students for the Advancement of Democracy (USAD)

believes in a student government that embodies genuine democratic
governance, one that addresses the needs of the student body and the social
community we are part of. Our Party joins this election with an agenda to
deepen democracy in every aspect. More than an institution or process, we
view democracy as a way of life which must be embodied by those that
strive for positions within our Student Government.
As the 3 AB Political Science Course Representative, I shall strive to
establish and maintain permanent channels of communication between my
constituents and our home department by creating the necessary systems
and protocols to formalize the correspondence between students (as
represented by my position) and the department. I shall maintain constant
communication with the students of my course to ensure that every policy
pronouncement, declaration and stand that I make in my capacity as Course
Representative is to be as reflective of the dispositions of my course mates
as possible without compromising our collective affirmation and recognition
of human value and dignity.
As a Course Representative, I shall ensure that the Sanggunian, with
the School Assembly in particular, remains resolute in its commitment to the
Constitution and that all the policies, programs and stands that shall be
formulated will be grounded on the aims and guiding principles of the
Sanggunian as stated by the constitution. as it is concerned with the
Sanggunians resolutions, policies, programs, and stands. I shall ensure that
it adheres to the aims of the Sanggunian as written in the Constitution.
In addition, if elected I will push for and support drives for the
formation of a committee on financial aid. I would like to see the Sanggunian
take a bigger role in representing scholars and those that apply for financial
assistance. As an entity that represents the interests of the student body, the
Sanggunian must be involved in helping fellow Ateneans by serving as
medium between the administration and the students.
Aside from the internal aspects and responsibilities of the position that
I seek, I also wish to help reshape the prevalent discourse and disposition
within the Sanggunian. I believe that the Sanggunian can best realize its
purpose and mandate as the authoritative voice of the student body not by
concerning itself primarily with internal service-oriented advocacies and
projects. Rather, I believe that the Sanggunian can have the most impact

both within and without campus by engaging pertinent national issues that
have gripped and continue to grip our country. In particular,
I envision a Sanggunian (and by extension a student body) that is
grounded on the realities outside the university. I hope to see a Sanggunian
that is conscious of the presence of structures in society that marginalizes
one and privileges another. I dream of a Student government that is a space
for the open discussion of ideas, as a space for discussing not only personal
advancement but also genuine and inclusive development.
To achieve this goal, I declare my ardent support for the formation of
a committee on Social Concern and Involvement. This committee in
coordination with the Department of Political Science and other sociallyoriented departments, I believe provides the opportunity to concretize a
sociopolitical formation program that will form Ateneans as both
intellectually sharp and socially responsive, embodying the Atenean ideal
of being men and women for others.
It is high time that we redefine what it means to be a student leader
in the Ateneo. In particular, it is time for us to revisit our understanding of
what it means to serve. For me and for my Party, genuine service can only be
accomplished by expanding the horizon of our engagement, I believe that it
is when we go beyond the gates of Loyola and engage ourselves with the
issues outside that we will become true servants. It is only by becoming true
servants that we can hope to become genuine leaders of both the University
and the country - a goal that we must always aspire to.
Through my tenure, I shall advocate for a more representative,
independent and socially aware Sanggunian through the commitment to
and practice of social democratic ideals, in order to advance l the project of
deepening democracy in the student community.

The Union of Students for the Advancement of Democracy (USAD) believes in a

student government that is oriented towards genuine democratic governance, one
that addresses the needs of the student body and the social community we belong
to. Our Party thus runs in this elections with an agenda to deepen our democracy
in many respects. Its sector-based approach is the best way to achieve a more
inclusive and democratic government by giving a voice to the different social,
cultural, and religious minorities in the Ateneo community.
As the 4 AB POS course representative, I aim to forward the party agenda in the
Central Assembly through the formulation and implementation of policies, stands,
resolutions, and programs geared towards upholding the rights of
underrepresented groups, shaping a more independent student government, and
pursuing inclusive social development through democratized governance.
Under my leadership, the School of Social Sciences pioneered the creation of a
more advocacy-based Sanggunian through the creation of a direct response team
to social issues. This is the same direction that we wish to take for the Sanggunian
this year. The School of Social Sciences will once again be at the forefront of
creating a more socially relevant Sanggunian through:
1. The institutionalization of a task force for marginalized groupsA.This can be
achieved through the strengthening of the relationship of the Sanggunian and its
partner organizations and promoting discourse among the members of the
student government when it comes to issues involving marginalized sectors of
society.B. Creation of a bill that requires at least 25% of the Sanggunians budget
(this in addition to subsidies and grants) to be spent for projects that address social
issues. This is to aid startup and existing advocacy groups in forwarding their
advocacies.
2. Active participation in creating a sociopolitical formation programA. Creation of
the Social Concern and Involvement Committee geared towards the formulation
of a sociopolitical formation program for themembers of the Sanggunian, and
eventually, the student bodyB. Partnership with the Department of Political
Science and other departments which could assist in the crafting of the
programFurthermore, the kind of relevance that we are after this year is social
relevance. We want the Sanggunian to actively engage in relevant social issues
such as the environment, religion, gender, and globalization. This allows the
student government to engage in more innovative discourse and to set a new and
unique trend in terms of what kinds of issues to engage in. One way to supporting

allows the student government to engage in more innovative discourse and to set
a new and unique trend in terms of what kinds of issues to engage in. One way to
supporting the research and development work of political science majors is by
supporting the creation of the Financial Aid committee which aims to:
A. Formulate and review the Sanggunians policy for affording financial assistance
to students in need;B. And assist students in need in accessing existing financial
assistance mechanisms within the University.
The curriculum of political science majors is centered precisely in this kind of
research agenda. Almost every political science class requires a certain kind of
research output that may be costly for scholars and non-scholars that are in need
of financial aid. The establishment of this committee does not just provide
monetary aid for students but also furthers the development for advocacy-based
research outputs that may be utilized to forward the discussion on various social
issues. The student government should invest in these innovative ideas by
diversifying the school boards financial grant system for start-ups, social
enterprises, advocacy projects, theses, conferences, forums, and by providing
assistance in networking with organizations within and outside the Ateneo.
The kind of improvement that we want to create for the Sanggunian this year
involves a clear and strict adherence to its principles and purpose. I shall ensure
that it adheres to the aims of the Sanggunian as written in the Constitution.
Through my tenure, I shall advocate for a more representative and independent
Sanggunian through the pursuit and practice of social democratic ideals, hoping
to fulfill the project of deepening democracy in the student community.

Among the courses offered by the Political Science Department, AB POSMPM is the least successful in terms of number of applicants and current number
of students. As a program designed for public service workers, functionaries,
development leaders, and politicians, it needs and should have more applicants
since it is the course designed for creating our countrys future leaders. There is no
question that there is a good number of aspiring leaders in the Ateneo community
who intend to serve the public.
For the course to survive, it must have a decent number of students and
assurance that there will be a steady number of applicants. There is always a need
for good leaders and individuals willing to devote themselves to public service.
That is why I intend to use the position learn more about how to improve
enrollment rates in AB POS-MPM and the first step would be to raise awareness
about the existence of the course and reach out to those with the heart for public
service.
In addition to problems in my course, I also intend to use the position to
address the problems and concerns in the other Political Science courses as well as
foster the values of Political Participation, Plurality, Inclusivity and create spaces for
discourse which are essential to a healthy democracy.

the percentage breakdown so that I can inform them so that they will no longer
wonder where their tuition fee is going. After seeing the breakdown of percentage
of the tuition fee, I would also propose some changes because the tuition in Ateneo
is really expensive as compared to other schools and I believe that everyone should
have a chance to a great education This platform will be more feasible if other course
representatives join together. It would make more of an impact.
Another one of my advocacies is the awareness and support to the LGBTQA
community.
I know that the Ateneo is very open to the LGBTQA community and that
people in Ateneo respect them and treat them equally but there are still some
others who dont feel the same way or simply dont care enough around them. I
know people who are part of the LGBTQA and they said that they do feel welcome
in Ateneo but they still feel that they are not really that accepted yet, and I want
them to feel that they can really be who they are in Ateneo. I also want them to have
a safe place where they can talk about the problems they have faced or are still
facing. Because of this I would want to propose an event similar to that of the pride
week that was done in Ateneo last time, but what makes my platform different is
that I want make an event where there will be speakers and they will talk about
What is LGBTQA and everything we need to know about it. There would also be
different activities in this event. Like maybe a talent show. The main goal of this
platform is just to make more people aware and more people care about the

most especially involving human rights issues.

My name is Niccolo Nable from 1 AB PSY and I am running for Course

Representative for AB PSY. If elected, I will push for the following projects:
1. Active Social Media Presence
Handling a strong social media presence is an efficient way to build our courses
reputation with in the Ateneo and showcase your course to future applicants. By
regularly updating prospects on all the AB Psychologys social happenings, students
start to view the AB PSY community as something they can participate in.
Developing a loyal and active community is a very powerful source of innovation,
and social media offers exactly this kind of relationship-building opportunity that is
virtually limitless. Social media leads to massive exposure due to its worldwide
access, sharing capabilities, and huge amount of daily users. It delivers instant
information: how we learn about the advances in psychology, make connections
between students, provide information about different career paths, and update
students in important news can only be strengthened by an active presence in social
media.
2.

AB PSY General Assembly

As freshman in AB Psychology, I feel a lack of knowing what Im getting into with

AB

Psychology since in freshman year focus isnt placed on your major just yet. I

believe that it is important for students in AB Psychology to be introduced to this

information during freshman year, pinnacle point right before second year where
most course shifting occurs. This assembly will be a more AB Psychology focused
version of SOSS Camp where information about AB Psychology will be more indepth and students can be introduced to future professors, upper classmen and AB
Psychology Alumni to give information about what tracks they can pursue, as well
as provide freshmen with information of the AB Psychology community and how
they can participate in it. I believe a general assembly can serve as the first push for
freshmen that could become active members of the AB Psychology community.

Skills:

I can work efficiently whether alone or within a

group. Im very much flexible with the people that I
work with. I can also balance well my academic
duties and other priorities in my life. And pretty
much always optimistic in trying new things and
things that challenge me.

Interests:

I enjoy watching Youtube videos and TV shows. I also

like exploring places Ive never been in whether
locally or internationally. I personally love having one
on one talks with friends or anyone because I really
like stories from different people and perspectives.

One regret I have during my stay in the High School is that I was too afraid to join
any Sanggunian related programs that my school was offering. Except during my 4th
year in the High School wherein I took the leap of courage and became the class
Secretary. Being new at being an officer, first few weeks was a crazy. Early meetings
with the moderator, recess and lunch meetings with other officers of the batch,
endless meetings. But as months and endless meetings went by, I slowly realised the
importance of being an officer. Being an officer is wherein you undergo stress and
much work for the benefit of the people you really care about, hence, my class. After a
year of being an officer, I feel accomplished in the sense that I managed the people I
care about the most without waiting for something in return. And that is why I want
to be a Course Representative.
If ever elected as a Course Representative, I promise to do my very best to serve
the people I care about with the mere fact that I genuinely really just want to help
their lives a bit more easier. If ever elected, I will also try to address problems that my
course mates are experiencing directly to the Sanggunian and Ateneo for a fast and
steady solution in the situation. Lastly, I can try and help Ateneo to mold my course
mates as persons for others in the future as what Ateneo plans us all to become.

I have developed a good judgment of character of the

people I work with in groups. This enables me to enlist
cooperation and teamwork towards the fulfillments of
goals. Through working with groups, I was able to hone
my listening and organizational skills. Ultimately, I
have grown to realize the importance of servantleadership leading a group whilst helping others to
realize their potential.

Sustainability and Presence

As a course that averages less than 20 undergraduate majors per year level, it is my
main thrust to create a sustainable environment which will cater to the small
student population of the Sociology and Anthropology Department. In order to
produce and maintain this kind of environment, the presence of the AB Social
Science student body should be made apparent throughout the Loyola Schools.
The primary issue lies with SA 21 classes being available only during 2nd year. Thus,
1.) AB SOS Freshmen shift out of the course without having known what the degree
could offer them, and 2.) less Loyola Schools undergraduates are exposed to the
course therefore knowledge of the program is not well-known. Any AB SOS
undergraduate would agree that they have experienced other students asking
them, SOS? Isnt that the school?
In collaboration with the other year level course representatives and the
Department of Sociology and Anthropology, I propose to craft classes that would
serve as introductory modules to the course. The main target of these workshops
would be freshmen and sophomore undergraduates of the course. Once these two
batches are accounted for, these classes could be opened to other undergraduates
that are interested in learning more about Sociology and Anthropology.
Lastly, in order to strengthen and empower the AB SOS student body, I propose to
lay the foundations of MULAT, a home organization planned by the 4th year AB SOS
students, so that the next batches of SOS undergraduates would already have a
template to follow and would just focus on getting accredited by the Office of
Student Activities.

This is a JOINT PLATFORM by AUSTIN SY and JAMES CARREON

We have noticed that the student body is uninformed about its student leadership.
They tend tend to rely more on their orgs than their student government. This is a
problem, for the student government and the student body. We must show that the
Sanggunian is there, that it creates multiple opportunities for students to grow
spiritually and as a student. We must show that the student body is more than just
another department in The Ateneo. We must show that Sanggunian cares for the
students well-being and must present to the students and the Ateneo community
that the Sanggunian holds authority and power. We feel that as political science
students there must always be a person in Sanggunian representing us, especially
since we are supposed to be politically inclined. So it is our duty as course reps to
help our constituents see the importance of the student body to their course.
Considering that we are the future leaders or lawyers of the country. We want to
promote political Awareness and Involvement as our first advocacy. We would like
to propose a project that would help us push our advocacy.Project Sanggunian
Week / Political Awareness Week:
A week where Sanggunian celebrates its past achievements and a week where
Sanggunian can show these past and future projects to the student body. There will
be seminars from current and past politicians. Talks from past Sanggunian member
to share their experience with the incoming members of the student body. These
projects can help people see the importance of the student body to their college life
and help them feel more involved in its affairs. The project can be done together
with the help of certain organizations such as the Ateneo Assembly. It will also help
empower the students in relation to their course(Political Science) since they get first
hand experience from different perspectives.
