Hill Light Theological Seminary Application Essay

My name is Naw Hsar Kmwee. I was born in Thet Poe Lu. I am the fourth child of
seven children. When I was young my father work in India. He didnt have I.D. or
passport, so he was arrested and went to jail for four years. When my father was in jail,
my family have a lot of problem. I have to go to school, but my parents have no money.
At the time, my mother worry a lot, but she trusted in God. God took care of us, and my
father came back.
When I was young I want to be a teacher. At school, when the teacher was teaching
I watched the teacher. When the teacher went outside, I took the chalk and taught my
classmates in front of the class. The teacher came back and scolded me because they
dont want the students to do like that. I didnt want to be naughty, but I really want to be
a teacher, so I copied the teacher.
I studied Grade 10 in my village and then I was baptized. After that, I came to Thoo
Mweh Khee school. I got my grade 10 certificate in TMK and I have taught at Thoo Mweh
Khee for two years. I got many experience and met many different students from many
different villages. Sometimes I followed the students to the village and I saw that Karen
people are not all the same. The situation here is very different from my home. This
changed my idea a lot.
In my village, almost all the Karen people are Christian and the Burmese people are
Buddhist. I thought everyone who speaks Karen is Christian. I came here and I was very
surprised. I saw many temple in the Karen villages. I saw many monks. I was very
surprised when I heard one grandmother sing a Buddhist song. So many Karen people are
not Christian. I really want to tell them about the Gospel, but I dont know how to tell
them. I understand the Bible, but if people ask me questions, I worry I cant answer. I only
have a little knowledge.
I remember Matthew 28:19-20, Go therefore and make disciples of all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching
them to observe all that I have commanded you. When I read this verse, I think about all
my Karen people who dont know Jesus. Its like they live in darkness and Jesus is calling
them, but they dont know him. I want to bring the message to them. So I decide with my
whole heart to study Bible School. I want God to use me, so I give myself to him.

I choose Hill Light Theological Seminary because I hear from my friend it is a good
school and the teachers have a lot of knowledge about the Bible. It is also near Thoo
Mweh Khee, and I have many friends like my family at Thoo Mweh Khee. I believe God
prepared the way for me and I want to follow his way. As Paul said, For me to live is
Christ, to die is gain.
