Abstract
TheGlynnCountyBoardofEducationwillprovideaneducationfeaturingmanytypesof
technology,specificallySMARTTechnology,ineachclassroom.Allteacherswillbeableto
deliverimportantinformationpertainingtoGeorgiaPerformanceStandardsandCommonCore
CurriculumbyusingSMARTNotebooktechnology.Thistypeoftechnologywillenhance
lessonsthatteachersareimplementingintodaysclassroom.InApril2012,aSMARTTech
studyshowedthat15%ofteacherssaidthebiggestchallengewhenimplementingtechnology
intoaTitle1classroomisthatprofessionaldevelopmentisnotbeingprovidedbythedistrict.
Offeringteachersandadministratorsprofessionallearningopportunitiesandcertification
chancesabouttheproductsthatcouldheavilyassisttheclassroom,willenhanceschools
tremendously.
Proposal
DemonstratedNeed
AllteachersofGlynnCountyBoardofEducationperformedapreassessment(AppendixA)of
technologytheywouldliketoimplementintheirclassroomandthetypesofprofessional
developmentcoursestheywouldliketoattend.ThemajorityoftheteacherschoseSMART
Technology.Afteridentifyingthetypesoftechnologyproposed,theschoolboarddecidedtogo
aheadwithSMARTNotebooktechnology.Goalswereassessedafteraschoolboardmeeting,
andaplanofoperationwasexecuted.Afterallprofessionaldevelopmentopportunitiesweremet
byeachteacherinvolved,theyweregivenapostassessment(AppendixB)abouthoweffective
theprofessionaldevelopmentopportunitieswereandifanythingneededtobeimproved.After
assessingtheteachers,dataconcludedthattheprofessionaldevelopmentopportunitieswere
effectiveandallgoalswereachieved.Threemonthsafterallprofessionaldevelopment
opportunitiesweregiven,theparticipantsweregivenafollowupsurveytoseeifthetraining
waseffective(AppendixC).

PlanofOperation
TeacherswererequiredtogothroughaSMARTNotebooktrainingtolearnhowtouseall
SMARTproductsincludingSMARTboards,SMARTpodiums,andSMARTtables.The
schoolsawaneedforthiswhentheyrealizedthattheteacherswhodidhaveSMARTboardsin
theirclassroomswereonlyusingthemasregularwhiteboards.Byhavingallteachersgothrough
thistraining,theteacherswilllearnhowtofullyutilizetheSMARTproductsandwouldgivea
reasonastowhytheschoolshouldincreasethenumberoftechnologicallyenhancedclassrooms.
TheSMARTsoftwareallowsteacherstocreatelessonsontheircomputersthattheycan
directlytransfertotheSMARTboards.Theselessonsaremuchmoreinteractivewithstudents
asopposedtousingaregularwhiteboard.Teacherscanincludegames,hiddenfacts,etc.as
waystoinvitestudentstocometotheboardtoshowwhattheyhavelearned.Teacherscanalso
walkaroundtheclassroomusinganIpadtocontroltheSMARTboardinsteadofbeing
confinedtooneplaceatthefrontoftheclassroom.Asteachersgothrougheachmodule,they
areencouragedtoworktogethertofindwaysthatwillengagethestudents.Byworking
together,theteacherscanlearnfromeachotherandquicklycreatenewlessonsfor21stcentury
students.
