ACT IV SCENE 1

1. Why is Friar Lawrence reluctant to marry Paris to Juliet?


- Because Juliet is already a wife of Romeo and it is a sin to marry twice back in the days.
2. How does Paris explain the sudden haste of the marriage plans?
- The marriage would take away the sadness from Juliet.
3. What is ironic about the conversation between Juliet and Paris?
- Although Juliet and Paris are not married and Juliet hates him, Paris thinks Juliet loves him.
4. If Friar Lawrence cannot help her, what does Juliet threaten to do?
- She threatens the fiar by telling him that she will her herself.
5. Why does Friar Lawrence think that Juliet will accept his plan?
- Because Juliet is very into living with Romeo together and he knows that both of the couple
will do whatever to be together.
6. Describe the friars plan for Juliet.
- The night before the wedding, she will drink the potion that the friar gave, which makes Juliet
looks like dead. In the night, the friar will send someone to tell Romeo about the plan. When
Juliet goes into the tomb, Romeo will arrive to Verona and take Juliet to Mantua and live
together forever.

- She agrees to marry Paris.
2. How does Capulet change the wedding plans? What implications does this have?
- He changes the wedding to be on Wednesday, which can make Romeo to come to Verona little
late.
scene iii:

- Although she knows that the potion may not work, but to be with Romeo, she drinks it and
waits till Romeo comes can get her.
2. If the potion does not work, what will Juliet do?

- She will hit her brain with her ancestor's bones.

- She thinks it might not work, or it may kill herself. Or, though the potion works, she can wake
up before Romeo comes and she get frightened.

scene iv:
1. What is happening in this brief scene?
- The Nurse found out the death of Juliet, and after a while, everyone knew about her death, and
the wedding day turned into a funeral.

scene v:
1. Describe the imagery Shakespeare uses in describing Juliets death.
- He describes how her joints are stiff and how her face is pale.
2. What does friar Lawrence say to comfort the Capulet family?
- That she went to heaven and she will rest in peace.
3. What event are the Capulets preparing for now?
- The funeral.

ACT 5 SCENE 1
1. What premonition does Romeo have at the beginning of this scene (lines 1-11)?
- He said he dreamt about Juliet lying down as if she was dead.
2. What news does Balthasar bring? How does this disrupt the Friars plan?
- He told Romeo about Juliet's funeral. Juliet is actually not dead, but because Balthasar told
Romeo before the Friar John could diliver the message, Romeo went to Verona and killed
himself.

- He decides to kill himself and lie beside Juliet, so they can livee together even in heaven.
