changing technologies leading new initiatives to build the next generation geo-distributed cloud-based Data-as-a-Service
Platform. Delivered real-time stream processing leveraging Storm and Kafka. Set the strategy and architecture for
Huawei software product and incubated new initiatives including those to leverage Mesos toward building a Data Center
OS which was adopted by the company; built a Distributed Application Container (Docker-based) for cloud including the
network component and provided end-2-end application SLA. Leveraged Spark and Hadoop log record analysis for
optimizing customer churn.

KEY ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
Led data infrastructure support for the migration from Oracle RDBMS to different NoSQL databases which resulted
in cost saving and provided more flexible data management architecture.
Developed strong relationships with business units and key stakeholders to influence the product roadmap.
Enhanced K-means clustering algorithm to deal with outliers; used by Huawei to detect network contention
As an advisor to the CEO, redirected Big Data Insights technical direction to build a real-time platform to process
data from different data sources; Novel model (patent) to deal with data quality for the above platform.
YAHOO! CORP & ACTIAN CORP Sunnyvale & Redwood City, CA 2012 2014
FELLOW AND VICE PRESIDENT OF PLATFORMS, CTO AND SR. VP OF ENGINEERING
Developed and overseeing the Yahoo! Platform Engineering group and contributing as a member of Yahoo! Architecture
Council. Influence the Personalization service to adopt in-memory processing (Spark). Enhancing Yahoo!s private cloud
network infrastructure authentication model to be zone-based instead of host-based (IP-based) security model;
contributing as a member of the Technology Council overseeing the technical direction company-wide; and ensuring the
engineering and provisioning of resources required for operations, support and maintenance. Led and set the technical
direction of the Actian Engineering organization with ~230 developers world-wide. Proposed and delivered a UDF
Framework project encompassing the development of UDFs ensuring the ability to be deployed either in Hadoop/Hive
for shallow analytics or in Vectorwise (DW) for deep analytics. Led and delivered the Hadoop Connector to Vectorwise;
fastest against published numbers.
KEY ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
Demonstrated a strong combination of leadership, management, technical expertise and project management
abilities to ensure overall success.
Redirected Actian business direction to focus on analytics and big data.
HEWLETT-PACKARD Cupertino, CA 2002 2012
FELLOW AND CHIEF TECHNOLOGIST CLOUD AND BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE DIVISIONS
Provided thought leadership by managing a Distinguished Technologists team for the technical direction of the division
and ensuring business requirements translate into functioning software systems, services and solutions. Led the data
management (PaaS) in the cloud division over Openstack (IaaS). Oversaw individual projects that have significant
impact on the product including processing encrypted data in the cloud while preserving the algebraic properties of the
application. Developed solution to the N2 IPC connections in parallel query processing in data warehouses which
required N IPC connections (using MPI collective operations); having significant impact on performance.
KEY ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
Implemented SSD instead of disk for SQL overflow at heavy load achieved 4X for ~20% extra cost.
Invented the notion of Intelligent Storage where relevant query processing (predicates) is moved closer to the data
in the storage device. The idea was presented by HP to Oracle resulting in Exadata-1.
