Brake fluid: changing

Note
Only use new genuine VW/Audi brake fluid ETKA.
WARNING
Brake fluid must on no account come into contact with liquids containing mineral oils (oil,
t petrol, cleaning agents). Mineral oils damage the seals and rubber sleeves in the brake
system.
t

Brake fluid is poisonous. Brake fluid also has caustic properties and must therefore not be
allowed to come into contact with paintwork.

Brake fluid is hygroscopic, i.e. it absorbs moisture from the surrounding air. It must therefore
always be stored in air-tight containers.

t Use plenty of water to rinse away any brake fluid spillage.

t Do not reuse the old brake fluid that has been extracted.
t Always observe the relevant environmental regulations for disposal.

t With the aid of the tool set for brake

bleeding -VAS 6564-, the rear brakes
or, depending on version, the front
and rear brakes can be bled without
having to remove the wheels.
In the case of certain wheel
t combinations, the wheels must be
removed.
t

Start at the front right wheel on righthand drive vehicles.

Use the bleeder hose supplied. The

bleeder hose must fit tightly on the
t
bleeder screw to prevent air from
entering the brake system.
If there are two bleeder screws on
each brake caliper (as on some
t versions), connect the inner bleeder
screw first , then the outer bleeder
screw.
The brake fluid reservoir must
always be adequately filled to
t
prevent air from entering the brake
system from the reservoir.
t

The strainer in the brake fluid

reservoir must not be removed.

Make sure that no more fluid flows

back into the reservoir from the
strainer after extracting the fluid. The
t
brake fluid level in the reservoir
must be no higher than the bottom
edge of the strainer.
