Ch 1 - Introduction

Chapter 1 - Introduction
The Jackpot Trigger Device 3 (JPTD3) is a digital, programmable board with two relays that
activate peripheral devices for visual or audio output.
The specific output activated and how that output is activated is determined by signals
received from the controller and by how the JPTD3 is configured. Figure 1.1 below shows
how the JPTD3 relates to the rest of the progressive system.

JPTD3 Board Overview

Installation, configuration, and testing are simplified through the elimination of DIP switches.
Addresses and other configuration data are stored in an on-board flash EEPROM
(Electronically Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory). This EEPROM is configured
with six push-button switches.

JPTD3 Features
The JPTD3 is designed to support existing PGIC applications, providing backward
compatibility. Those specific features are listed in the sections below.

Contrast and Configuration Switches

The JPTD3 has six buttons (or switches as they are referred to from now on), a contrast
control, and an LED display used to configure it to a variety of applications. Table 2.2
describes each switch.:
Table 2.2

Configuration Switch Definitions

Switch

Description

Contrast

Controls the degree of difference between the lightest and darkest areas on the LED
display. If the JPTD3 has power and the display is not visible, adjust contrast until the
image appears.

SW1

Increments the value for the selected configuration option.

SW2

Advances to the next character field (^). This switch is only active for configuration
options that require a multiple digit entry.

SW3

Advances to the next configuration option.

SW4

Shows the previous configuration option.

SW5

Decrements the value for the selected configuration option.

SW6

Starts and exits Configuration mode, if pressed for 3 seconds. The version number
appears and allows selection of menu items for configuration.

In Configuration mode, the LED display shows menu items for configuration values or
settings. Figure 2.2 contains a diagram of the JPTD3 board, with the location of switches,
LED, and connectors.

Operation Modes
The JPTD3 has two operating modes:

Operational mode is the main application. In this mode, the JPTD3 receives input
from the Controller and sends output to the relays to activate visual or audio devices.

Configuration mode configures all system and hardware settings.

The JPTD3 defaults to Communication mode upon power up. Follow the procedure in
Configuration Instructions on page 11 to access Configuration mode.

LED Display Messages

When power is connected to the JPTD3, RESET appears on the LED display for several
seconds. This message notifies the user that a power cycle has occurred. After configuration
is complete and the JPTD3 returns to Operation mode, two lines of status information
appear. Different messages appear depending on the protocol selected during configuration.
If CHAM2 is the selected protocol, the following information appears on the first line:
G###L##A##

= Indicates a variable numerical value

= Group Number

= Relay Level

= Address

If CASLINK is the selected protocol, the following information appears on the first line:
G###L##########

= Indicates a variable numerical value

= Group Number

= Relay Level

########

= up to 8-digits of the Machine ID or NO-MACH# if a machine number

was not entered.

The second line of information indicates if the JPTD3 is in a normal or jackpot state, the
value of the progressive, and if the device is offline:
C########.## - OFFLINE

= normal/non-jackpot state

= jackpot state

= value of the jackpot (10-digits)

OFFLINE

Ch 4 - JPTD3 Configuration

Protocol Configuration Options

Protocol (PROTOCOL)

Protocol represents the supported protocol, which is a type of interface or language the
JPTD3 uses to communicate. Protocol selection affects the entire menu, such that different
sets of subordinate menu items are available depending on which of the following protocols
you select.

CasinoLink (CASLINK) - The CASLINK option is compatible with the

CasinoLink system. CASLINK uses the CasinoLink method of addressing, rather
than the display method.

CHAMII (CHAM2) - PGIC progressive sign protocol also known as Chameleon II

or Super Chameleon. If this menu is selected, the system interprets the original
CHAMII protocol. This value is the default.

Group Number (GROUP)

The Group Number determines the progressive jackpot link to which the relay is assigned.
This value defaults to 255 for both the CHAMII (CHAM2) and CasinoLink (CASLINK)
protocols.
ID ADDRESS (ADDR)

This configuration option only appears for the CHAM2 protocol selection. ADDR has a
value range of 1 - 64, used to identify the JPTD3. The ID address number assigned to the
JPTD3 is the same identification number that the controller uses for the device on which it is
installed. ADDR is a second piece of device addressing information that, when combined
with GROUP, allows the JPTD3 to address and support more devices.
The CHAMII (CHAM2) protocol is limited to 64 devices and a value range of 1 - 64. Values
1 - 63 are used to address devices. Value option 64 is reserved for the overhead device.
Machine ID (MACH#)

This configuration option only appears for the CASLINK protocol selection. This option is
to identify the machine in which the JPTD3 resides. The machine ID or serial number option
allows for up to an 8-digit value to be entered. This option uses SW2 to advance to each digit
placeholder. This value defaults to blank.

Ch 4 - JPTD3 Configuration

Relay Configuration Options

There are two configurable relays on the JPTD3. The relay option value selected defines a
specific progressive jackpot group to activate the JPTD3, and to determine how the JPTD3
responds.
Relay 1 and Relay 2 (R1 LEVEL or R2 LEVEL)

The value options for these settings are ALL or a number in the range of 1 to 8. If ALL is
selected, then a jackpot hit in any progressive jackpot level activates a celebration event. These
options both default to a value of 1.
Relay Idle State Configuration (R1 IDLE or R2 IDLE)

The idle configuration option instructs the JPTD3 how to behave while in an idle state. The
values for this option include OFF and FLASH. The default value for this option is OFF. The
value selected for this option affects the values available for the Relay Jackpot option. The
value selected for this option will not be available for the Relay Jackpot option.
Relay Jackpot Celebration (R1 JACK or R2 JACK)

The jackpot configuration option instructs the JPTD3 how to behave when a jackpot is won.
The available options are ON, OFF, FLASH or PULSE depending on the option selected for
when the relay is idle.
The value selected for the relays idle state cannot match the same value for the
Relay Jackpot option. If OFF is selected for R1 IDLE then OFF does not appear
for R1 JACK. If FLASH is selected for R1 IDLE, FLASH does not appear as an
option for R1 JACK.

Relay Time On (R1 TIME ON or R2 TIME ON)

This menu option only appears if PULSE or FLASH is selected as a Relay Jackpot option. If
the Relay Idle option is set to ON and the Relay Jackpot option is set to PULSE or FLASH,
this option needs to be set to tell the JPTD3 how many seconds the PULSE or FLASH
should remain on.
Relay Time Out (R1 TIME OFF or R1 TIME OFF)

This menu option only appears if PULSE or FLASH is selected as a Relay Jackpot option. If
the Relay Idle option is set to OFF and the Relay Jackpot option is set to PULSE or FLASH,
this option needs to be set to tell the JPTD3 how many seconds the PULSE or FLASH
should remain off.

Ch 4 - JPTD3 Configuration

Auto Time Out (AUTO TOUT)

This configuration option needs to be set in order to determine the maximum amount of
time for the celebration event. Some setups do not send a signal to the JPTD3, indicating
when the Jackpot celebration has concluded. This option ends the celebration after a
determined amount of time (in seconds).
Minimum Celebration Time (MIN CEL)

A Minimum Celebration Time needs to be set in order to ensure the celebration is not over
too quickly. As stated in the previous option, some setups do not send a signal of completion,
others send the signal as soon as it occurs. This option ensures that the celebration occurs for
at least a determined amount of time (in seconds).
