START-UP & BUFFALO BILLION Nixon reiterates push for term limits for all elected state officials Following last weeks announcement by the US Attorney of federal corruption charges against current and ex-staffers of the Cuomo administration, Assembly candidate Dorollo Nixon announced he is calling for a shut-down of Start Up NY and the Buffalo Billion until an independent investigation and audit of how state programs like this are managed is conducted. Nixon believes that these state-driven economic development programs and the taxpayer dollars that fund them have been compromised by the nefarious actions of those named in the federal indictment. By conducting an investigation and audit into how these programs are run, Nixon contended, will take the necessary steps to help limit corruption in the future. Nixon also took the opportunity to renew his call for term limits a central platform of his campaign following last weeks latest episode of New York State of Corruption. Nixons opponent, Donna Lupardo, has served in the Assembly for 12 years. Given the gravity of the federal corruption charges brought against current and former members of the Cuomo administration, its only right that we shut-down any spending on state economic development programs until investigations and audits can identify where and how they were so grossly mismanaged, said Nixon. We cannot continue to spend taxpayer dollars on programs that are so inherently corrupt as the US Attorney found out. Voters keep sending the same people back to Albany, and we keep having the same problems. Albanys culture of corruption will remain until we enact term limits for all elected officials. If elected, I intend to introduce a bill on term limits as soon as I can," said Nixon. "Once New York citizens limit how long anyone can stay in power in Albany, we can then begin working on electing candidates who want to reform our state. Nixon proposes limiting state legislators to serving only three or four two-year terms. Governors, who serve four-year terms, and other executive officials should be limited to two terms, he said. Currently, state legislators and governors can serve an unlimited number of terms. My opponent has been in office for the past eleven years. Each time she returned to Albany, the first vote she cast was to place the reins of power in the experienced hands of Sheldon Silver now a convicted felon. Our community suffered because of her decisions, causing us to lose thousands of jobs, including 3,700 manufacturing jobs during the last three years alone. We have to hold her accountable, Nixon said.
The public trust does not mean anything in New York State any longer, Nixon said. I am running to help restore it. ###
