> Tom asked his Mom and Dad if he could go with some friends to
see an R-rated movie that was showing at their local theater.
"You know that we dont approve of R-rated movies," answered his
Dad. There are things in there that neither adults nor teenagers
need to be watching." Tom turned on his heels and stormed up the
steps and just before he turned the corner he piped, "You and mom
are so old fashioned. That movie only has a few cuss words and
one sex scene in it. Its not like it's a porno movie or
anything."
Later in the evening when Tom had calmed down at bit, he was
drawn downstairs by a wonderful smell coming from the kitchen.
"Whatcha making, Mom?" he asked as he gave her a quick hug. "Well
I thought I would make you a treat tonight. A pan of brownies is
almost ready to come out of the oven."
Just then the buzzer sounded and Toms mouth began to water in
anticipation of the savory treat. Mom cut into the moist,
steaming brownies and put the largest one on a plate and handed
it to Tom. Just as he was about to sink his teeth into the gooey
delight, his mom said, "Oh by the way, along with the flour,
sugar, butter, cocoa, and baking soda, I added a teeny bit of
Peteys dog doo-doo to the batter. But dont worry, it was only a
small amount, you probably wont even notice it."
Were the brownies pure??? What lesson was Mom trying to teach
Tom?
What is purity?
For the next 31 days we will deal with various topics regarding
purity, but first we should all be clear about what "purity"
means. So lets look at a definition of "pure".
Websters Dictionary defines "pure" as: free from anything that
taints, impairs, etc.; unmixed, clear
By that definition, a gallon of water that had only 1 teaspoon of
something else mixed in would not be pure water. A bucket of
white paint with only 1 drop of black in it is no longer a bucket
of purely white paint. It must be completely free from anything
else in order to be considered "pure". A little something added
to the mix makes the whole mix impure. Purity means pure, not
contaminated, mixed, or blended with anything else, not one small
thing!
How else can we explain what purity is?
A long time ago, a man named Oswald Chambers described purity to
college students like this: "... purity is something that has
been tested and tried and has triumphed, something that has
character at the back of it, that can overcome and has
overcome."Oswald Chambers, The Best from all His Books, vol 2,
pg. 247 What does he mean? For example, gold must be heated and
melted in order to refine it from all other impurities. It
becomes "pure" gold and is unmixed with any other substance. The
gold has been tested, tried and only the pure gold comes out at
the end.
About purity, Elizabeth Elliot says, "Purity means freedom from
contamination, from anything that would spoil the taste or the
pleasure... It means cleanness, clearness-no additives, nothing
artificial-in other words, "all natural" in the sense in which
the Original Designer designed it to be." Elisabeth Elliot,
Passion and Purity, pg131 All natural... Living a life the way
God created you is not weird, it should be natural! But
unfortunately sin has come into our world and contaminated that
which was "all natural". So now we must pursue, even harder, the
original way we were created to live a pure life in relationship
with God.
Purity must involve the whole person. You cannot be half-pure.
Purity must be a complete lifestyle. Whether you are with your
friends, family, or alone, a pure lifestyle is consistent no
matter who else is around. Purity spans far beyond sex. It is
being blameless in every area of your life. Thats so difficult!
But its something to work toward and pray for help to become,
and for the Christian, its our destiny in heaven! The moment we
see Jesus Christ face to face we will be like him - totally pure
and perfected.

#### Question 5
Which areas are most difficult to maintain purity? Why?
When I began this course I was not prepared for the life changing
effects that it would have upon me. Prior to doing the course I
thought that I was pretty pure, I am a virgin and was planning on
remaining that way until marriage, but in other areas of my life
sexual impurity was rampant. Until I did this course I did not
understand that being sexually pure meant more than virginity, it
is more than a physical state it is also a spiritual,
psychological and emotional state of being. This course taught me
that to be a virgin is not enough and sexual purity is to be
maintained through out our lives, it is not something that is
tossed aside after you are married. Until now I never thought of
it like that. After I started this course it became pretty
apparent that the way that I was living my life was anything but
sexually pure. I was hung-up on how far I could go while
maintaining my virginity, my mentor pointed out that this was not
the right question to ask, and that sexual purity was not a line
but a way of living. I am now committed to that way of living.
This course has equipped me with what I need to live a life of
sexual purity, a life that is pleasing to God.
Some important things to know as we pursue purity...
Foundation #1. The truth is, there is a moral standard for a pure
life. Society may lie and try to convince you that theres no
standard, or that something can be right or wrong depending on
each person and how you feel or would like to interpret it. But
that is a lie. There is a moral standard and those guidelines can
be found in the Bible. What the Bible contains is Truth about God
and His standards. We will base our standard for purity on the
instructions and encouragement found in the Bible.
Foundation #2. There is Absolute Truth. Absolute Truth means it
can never be proven wrong or found faulty. It is absolutely true,
absolutely all the time. Absolute Truth never leaves room for an
exception. You must know, there is Absolute Truth, and it is God
& His Word- the Bible. God created us and everything in the
world. God is perfect. So therefore, his Words will never be
imperfect or untrue. He is Absolute Truth and His Words are
absolutely true. You cannot ever prove him wrong or find fault in
him. We may think sometimes that we know better or that God made
a mistake, but given all the information God has, we would agree
with Him every time. He is 100% true and His words found in the
Bible are 100% true.
It is important for us to make sure that you understand there is
Absolute Truth and where its found. Because, no matter how well
we communicate Truth to you and the importance of purity, we will
still have flaws and shortcomings in our best efforts, because we
are still flawed until we see Jesus. But by directing you to the
source of Truth - God revealed to us through Jesus Christ and His
Word- you can discover a lifetime of Truth that applies to every
day and every situation.
Heres a verse to think about for today. You can make it a
prayer.
"Teach me your way, O LORD, and I will walk in your truth; give
me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name. I will praise
you, O Lord my God, with all my heart; I will glorify your name
forever. For great is your love toward me; you have delivered me
from the depths of the grave." Ps 86:11-13 emphasis added

Now take a second and think about these next questions. You will
be asked them everyday and you will probably get sick of
answering them, if they don't mean something to you. So, we want
you to answer them truthfully. Were dealing with reality
throughout this whole course, so we want you to give us your
answers based on reality, not just what you think we want to
hear. We are eager to really struggle and work through these
important, but tough issues with you, so be real. Okay? We love
realness!
To clarify what the first accountability question means, we have
included the following explanation.
What does "feasting" mean?
"Feasting" is more than just reading the Bible; it is a term to
express the nourishing of our souls in Jesus Christ. It means
that we are sitting at the feet of Jesus, hearing His Word and
believing it, for the purpose of implementing the truths into our
lives. It means we are receiving spiritual nourishment and we are
delighting our souls in His grace and truth. This may be done in
reading our Bibles, hearing God's Word preached, interacting with
others in the Scriptures, and studying through this course, etc.
This definition is at least a start; further explanation is
included in the lessons.
Have you been feasting on God's word?
Yes No
If so, when was the last time you feasted? And how? In other
words, how did you enjoy God? Reading? Prayer? Worship?
Fellowship? Witnessing?
We are very glad that you are interested in joining this Purity
Force. Were excited to help you enjoy sexual purity in your own
life and then help others do the same! It will be a challenge
even after this course is finished, but rising to the challenge,
and claiming victory will be indescribable in its rewards and
benefits. Were proud of you for pursuing purity today.
