ONE-POINT
PERSPECTIVE

NEW TERMS:
SP = station point
C = center of vision = VP
PP = picture plane

The PICTURE PLANE (PP) is similar

to a camera zoom lens

ONE-POINT PERSPECTIVE COMMON METHOD:

NEED FLOOR PLAN (TO SCALE); AND AN ELEVATION (OR

SECTION) TO SCALE, TO FIGURE OUT THE HEIGHTS
PLACE YOUR PICTURE PLANE (PP) ON THE FLOOR PLAN
PLACING THE PP AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PLAN WILL CREATE A
SMALL PERSPECTIVE; MOVING THE PP TO THE TOP OF THE
PLAN WILL CREATE A LARGER IMAGE
ALL ELEMENTS ON THE ACTUAL PICTURE PLANE WILL BE TO
SCALE, SO THEY CAN BE EASILY DIMENSIONED !!!
LINE-WEIGHT VALUE IS SIMILAR TO AXONOMETRIC LINE-WTS

To draw the back wall on the

perspective view, extend a line
from the SP, through the PP,
and to the back wall corners

Draw vertical lines wherever (blue)
lines hit the Picture Plane (PP)

lines hit the Picture Plane (PP)

Connect all corners of the PP to

the VP

To draw the back wall: draw a

horizontal line wherever the
vertical lines touch the
diagonal lines

Draw the PP, remember it will

always be to scale. Align the
bottom with the GL and the
top with the building height
(BH)

Erase unnecessary lines

Draw windows: bring lines

directly down from PP

ASSIGNMENT
READ: DESIGN DRAWING book:
Chapter 8, pp. 237-51
EXERCISES:

(use only pencils)

--On your sketchbook, draw a one-point perspective of

the BOX project with details
--On tracing paper: draw a perspective view of (3) squares
(6x6 each) attach to sketchbook
HEIGHTS: 1st square: 6 ft, 2nd square: 8ft, 3rd square: 10ft
SCALE: =1-0
--Show proper line weight value, NO SMUDGES!
