THE EARTHS ROTATION

(La rotacin de la tierra)

It is when the Earth rotates on its axis

(Cuando la tierra gira sobre su eje)

One rotation takes 24 hours or 1 day

(Una rotacin dura 24 horas o un da)

The rotation causes day and night

(La rotacin causa el da y la noche)

THE EARTHS REVOLUTION (La traslacin de la Tierra)

It is when the Earth orbits around the sun

(Cuando la tierra gira alrededor del sol)

One revolution takes 365 days and 6 hours or one year

( Dura 365 das y 6 horas o un ao)

The revolution causes the 4 seasons: spring, summer, autumn and winter.
(Causal as 4 estaciones: primavera, verano, otoo e invierno)

THE MOON (La luna)

The moon orbits the Earth in 28 days

(La luna gira alrededor de la tierra en 28 das)

Light from the sun bounces off the Moon and we see 4 Lunar phases

TIDES (Mareas)

The rise and fall of the seas and oceans (La subida y bajada de los mares y ocanos)
The Moon and the Sun attract wter due to the forc of gravity ( La Luna y el Sol atraen el
agua debido a la fuerza de la gravedad)

We have 2 high tides and 2 low tides every day (tenemos dos mareas altas y dos mareas
bajas cada da)

MEASURING AND REPRESENTING THE EARTH ( Medicin y representacin de la Tierra)

MAPS (mapas): Maps show the Earth as flat (representan la Tierra plana)
Physical maps (mapas fsicos). It shows deserts, mountains, rivers and lakes.
(Representan desiertos, montaas, ros y lagos)

Political Maps (Mapas polticos): it shows countries and cities (muestran paises y
ciudades).

ATLAS: It is a book that contains maps and information (es un libro que contiene mapas e
informacin)

GLOBES (globos terrqueos): show the Earth as a sphere (muestran la tierra como una
esfera)

IMAGINARY LINES ( Lneas imaginarias )

PARALLELS (Paralelos): The horizontal line or lines of latitude (lneas horizontals o lneas
de latitud). The Equator is at zero degrees latitude (El Ecuador est a cero grados de
latitud).

It divides the Earth into the Northern and the Southern Hemisphere.
(Divide la Tierra en Hemisferio Norte y Hemisferio Sur).

2. MERIDIANS ( meridianos). The vertical line or lines of longitude (lneas verticals o lneas
de longitud) . The Greenwich Meridian is at zero degrees longitude.

We use telescopes like Hubble Space Telescope (Usamos telescopios como el Hubble).
The first dog in space was Laika in 1957 (El primer perro en el espacio fue Laika en 1957)
The first person in space was Yuri Gagarin in 1961 ( La primera persona en el espacio fue
Yuri)

Neil Armstrong completed a Moon landing in 1969 on the Apollo 11 mission.

(Neil Armstrong complete un aterrizaje en la Luna en 1969 en la misin Apolo 11)

Today we have lots of satellites to share information (hoy tenemos muchos satellites para
compartir informacin).
