SUMMER SPLASH VACATION CONTEST-2010

SPE Rajiv Gandhi College of Engineering announces vacation contest for the Petroleum
Engineering students. Titled as “SUMMER SPLASH” the programme is a unique task
oriented assignment where students can work themselves or group themselves during the
vacation to perform the assigned tasks. The Programme is designed under two categories
namely Technical and Non-Technical. Each task is assigned with variable points put
together for 100 points. The individual or the group scoring maximum points will be
awarded with certificates and cash prizes along with a fun outing day. A maximum of
Three Prizes will be awarded based on the number of submissions.

THE STUDENTS CAN SELECT ALL OR AS MANY AS TASKS LISTED


BELOW:

Technical:

1. Design a Prototype model of any one of the following .Best economically feasible
design among Prototype projects will be funded by SPE Student Chapter for developing a
working model.

1. Drilling Rig/ Platform


2. Pipeline and Pumping units
3. Water flooding and EOR Projects
4. Logging Tools

2. Why Indian subcontinent lacks Petroleum Reserve in comparison with GULF


Regions– analyze in detail.

3. Collect as many as refined petroleum products and mix one by one with increasing
molecular weight and note down the color changes and prepare a sample(complete
mixture)

4. What do you know as the very recent technology in following disciplines and analyze
the current technology to the former in terms of advantages.

1. Exploration
2. Drilling
3. Reservoir
4. Formation Evaluation
5. Production
6. Drilling Fluids /Cementing circulation system
7. Transportation
5. Collect two rock samples nearby your area and classify which type of rock it is!! Also
sort the rock based on porosity and permeability under the basis of best, average, poor.

6. List down as many as E & P and Service companies with their base location.

Non-Technical:

1. Write briefly about “My Petroleum Engineering Course & My Department”

2. Analyze what is not available in SPE for your career development in Petroleum
Engineering.

3. Write down all the subjects in your 4 Year Petroleum Engineering and relate each
subject with a reason why it is attached to the Petroleum Engineering. (Minimum 3 lines
for each Subject)

4. Visit any one of the SPE Student Chapter /Department (In case chapter site is not
available like Texas A&M Univ) website in a foreign country and collect information
about the student activities of that particular university.

5. Where do you see yourself in 2 and half years from now? - analyze in detail

6. Prepare a resume for your own. (2 Pages)

Note:

1. Use A 3 sheet for designing.

2. While designing consider the materials to be used and please mention the specification
so that the design is complete.

3. Upon construction of design the model should be operating.

4. If multiple entries are found to be best for same category the funding will be awarded
for the design with least construction cost under bidding process.
