Aliens

Monday
1) Music: Were flying to the moon
Pre-teach:
- introduce the vocabulary-pictures of a moon, sun, spaceship, space, rocks and the Earth
and ask the children what they are
- arrange the children in two rows and tell them to pretend that they are on a spaceship
-tell them step by step what we are doing in space
Follow up:
-game: mime the actions from the song; others have to guess what the person miming is
doing
2) Science: solar system
Pre-teach:
- picture of the solar system; explain how it was formed and talk about the planets in our
solar system
-explain how to make a solar system
Follow up:
- compare the planets in the solar system (smaller than, bigger than etc.) and record the
results in a chart on a worksheet (or split them into teams and ask each team to find the
closest planet to the sun, another team the biggest and the smallest etc.; then have the
teams come and complete their section of a big chart of facts about the planets in our
solar system on the board; then do the worksheet individually)
GAMES:

Tuesday
1) Story: Into space
Pre-teach:
- introduce the vocabulary spaceship, cave, stars, planets, creatures, craters-revise were
flying to the moon
- ask the children to imagine what kind of creatures live in outer space
Follow up:
- draw your own creature
-describe your creature to your partner
2) Arts and crafts: creature from out of space
Pre-teach:
-revise parts of the body with simon says or captain says or by asking them to each draw
a part of the body to make an alien on the board (like the dinosaurs)
-bring a model from home and describe it to the children like they will have to in the
follow up
Follow up:
- describe your alien in front of the class; the others have to vote for the most interesting
alien until the end of the week
GAMES:

Wednesday
1) Music: The alien counting song
Pre-teach:
- have pictures of the little aliens and and A3 paper; revise counting and counting
backwards
- draw a big alien and ask the children to say how it is in comparison to the little aliens
- introduce the song as being about the little aliens on the board
Follow up:
- worksheet math
2) Maths: problems
Picture Problems
Pre-teach:
- running dictation- split them into teams
-revise the ten little alien song
Follow up:
- how many aliens are in the picture?
- create more problems in the same style
GAMES:

Thursday
1) Science: working in space
Pre-teach:
- introduce the vocabulary for the activity: nuts, bolts etc.
- ask the children to try the experiment without the water first
- explain about gravity
- attempting an experiment about how it would be to work in out of space
Follow up:
- record the results in a chart- can and cant do in space
2) Poem: Its a blast
Its a blast
Pre-teach:
-revise vocabulary- were flying to the moon song/ balloon race experiment- without as
many scientific facts
-introduce the new poem
Follow up:
-simon says/captain says
GAMES:
Friday
1)Arts and crafts: Plasticine aliens
Pre-teach:
- revising vocabulary: parts of the body
- game: Simon says
- revise vocab for materials (hold up objects and ask them what it is)
Follow up:
- present the alien/ dialogue

2) Maths: constellations
Pre-teach:
- revise numbers with ten little alien song
- bring pictures of different constellations; explain what is a costellation and encourage
the children to talk about the pictures
- pictures of directions (like traffic signs) turn left, right etc.; draw/bring an a 3 drawing
of a constellation and stick it on the board; ask children how you can get to specific
planets (to revise directions)
Follow up:
- create your own constellation
