The theoretical framework from the theory I have studied
consists of Self-Care, Self-Care Agency, Self-Care Demands and Nursing Agency. Orem used her theory to examine the self-care needs of persons and nurses role in assisting or supporting persons in meeting those needs. Orem saw that in order for a person, in ill health, become healthy and well, certain self care needs must be met. If a person is not capable of providing any self-care, the nurse would be responsible for providing most of the care. On the other hand, if the person is fully capable of providing basic self-care. The nurse would be the supporter/educator/facilitator of that self-care.
2. The interactions in the theory research practice triad,
and the implications these have for the profession of nursing is that research-practice connections is done in order to create a solution or outcome in a theory. As the main goals of research are to produce new knowledge and to improve practice in where the improvement of practice has been pursued through work. This is likely to be associated in profession of nursing in order to have a better outcome especially in every goal set by a nurse to its patient. Like a situation in our hospital where I affiliate, I have to do the research in order for my plan to be effective, and this involves Assessment which includes collecting data like signs and symptoms and sometimes I have done researches about the disease of my patient. And after that I focus on the data that really needs attention. After gathering data, I planned my actions and done my interventions and before my shift ends Ive got to see the response for my research and actions or practice. 3. a.)
b.) Theory is a model or framework for observation and
understanding, which shapes both what we see and how we see it. Theory allows the researcher to make links between the abstract and the concrete; the theoretical and the empirical; thought statements and observational statements etc. Theory guides research and organizes its ideas. The analogy of bricks lying around haphazardly in the brickyard: facts of different shapes and sizes have no meaning unless they are drawn together in a
theoretical or conceptual framework. It has the capacity to
generate new research. Theory and research are interrelated in the following ways: Theory frames what we look at, how we think and look at it. It provides basic concepts and directs us to the important questions. It suggests ways for us to make sense of research data. Theory enables us to connect a single study to the immense base of knowledge to which other researchers contribute. It helps a researcher see the forest instead of just a single tree. Theory increases a researchers awareness of interconnections and of the broader significance of data. For example in a deductive approach, researchers use theory to guide the design of a study and the interpretation of results. As researchers continue to conduct empirical research in testing a theory, they develop confidence that some parts of it are true. Researchers may modify some propositions of a theory or reject them if several well-conducted studies have negative findings. A theorys core propositions and central tenets are more difficult to test and are refuted less often. In a slow process, researchers may decide to abandon or change a theory as the evidence against it mounts over time and cannot be logically reconciled.
