That Union Station is to be named in honor of Congresswoman Eddie Bemice Johnson for her relentiess efforts toward improving Dallas an-her outstanding, innovative, and impactful work on behalf of local governments throughout the North Central Texas region, the State of Texas, and around the country. a‘ oy, Pf Section 2. That this resolution shall take effect, inimediately from and after its passage in accordance with the provisions of the Charter of the City of Dallas, and it is accordingly so resolved. ‘ 4 \ j , # WHEREAS, Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson became the first woman and first African American to represent the Dallas, Texas area in the United States House of Representatives when she was elected in 1992; and WHEREAS, Congresswoman Johnson is now in her twelfth term representing the citizens of the 30" Congressional District of Texas; and WHEREAS, Congresswoman Johnson has been a tenacious and tireless advocate for the citizens, business community, and governmental entities in North Cental Texas; and WHEREAS, Congresswoman Johnson currently serves as the Ranking Member on the House Science, Space and Technology Committee, and serves as absenior Member on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, where she is rendwned for.her efforts to improve and modernize our nation’s transportation infrastructure; ang nd. hy WHEREAS, Congresswoman Johnson has champiéned aa secured critical funding for transportation projects in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area and was one of the leading Members of Congress to increase allocation of federal surface transportation funds to metropolitan and urbanized areas, resulting in tens of ‘millions annually in transportation funding to the Dallas/Fort Worth area; and_ WHEREAS, thanks in large part to Congressweman Johnson’ 's Uhwavering support, in 2008 Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) received a landmark $700 million Full Funding Grant Agreement by the Federal Transit Administration - the largest ever awarded to DART - to build the 28-mile Green Line, which was completed on-tiine and on-budget on December 6, 2010; and / c WHEREAS, Congresswoman Johpson was instrumental in securing $26 million in Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) grant funds from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) for the construction of the Dallas Streetcar Project, connecting Downtown Dallas to Oale Cliff; and if WHEREAS, Congresswoman \ohnson aithored language in the 2011 FAA Reauthorization Act to allow théuse of Passenger Facility Funds for intermodal airport access projects; and | WHEREAS, Congrésswoman Johnson has provided strong, perennial support for the Contract Tower at Dallas Executive Airport; and WHEREAS, Congresswoman Johnson helped broker the Wright Amendment repeal compromise and then worked with the City and FAA to secure federal funding for the Love Field Modernization Project; and WHEREAS, for many years Congresswoman Johnson has served as a champion for the Trinity River Corridor Project, working tirelessly to secure over $220 million in federal funding to date, as well as a $459 million authorization for the Dallas Floodway Project in the 2007 Water Resources Development Act; and Representative Eddie Bernice Johnson Dallas Accomplishments FY 2002 ~ FY 2016 Transportation Margaret McDermott (1-30) Trinity River Bridge SAFETEA-LU (Project #4984): FY 2008... $20,000,000 $9,600,000 FY 200% $6,700,000 $33,300,000 1-35E Bridge FY 2004. nse sssuse $925,000 Margaret Hunt Hill (Woodall Rodgers) Bridge FY 2002, nee _.. $8,000,000 Aviation & Surface Transportation * Helped secure $26 million in TIGER Grants for the Oak Cliff Streetcar. * Authored language in the 2011 FAA Reauthorization Act allowing the use of Passenger Facility Funds for intermodal airport access projects. ‘+ Strong, perennial support for the Contract Tower at Dallas Executive Airport. * Secured hundreds of millions of dollars for DART light rail (including a landmark $700 million full funding grant agreement by the Federal Transit Administration — the largest ever awarded to DART) * Helped (along with Senator Hutchison) broker the Wright Amendment repeal compromise and then worked with the City and FAA to secure federal funding for the Love Field Modernization Project. ‘* A lead (perhaps the lead) congressional proponent of increased allocation of federal surface transportation funds to metropolitan and urbanized areas (worth tens of millions annually to North Texas in transportation funding).
