The Numbers of the Words
by Craig Peters

Jewish tradition divides this Commandment into two separate parts: The Shema (Deuteronomy 6:4) and The
Vahavta (Deuteronomy 6:5). Since the Messiah made no such division (He taught the entire text embodies the
single, greatest commandment), we will refer to both verses as The Shema (capitalized and italicized).

powerful spiritual weapons in our arsenal.10 Yet a great many believers do not
even consistently access the Presence of hwhy through continual prayer, much less
through Spirit-led times of fasting. Clearly, the Adversary has done much to hinder
our times in prayer; and he has done much to draw away the believer from those
special times of consistent fasting and prayer that will bring down the strongholds
of darkness. Generally speaking, fasting and prayer are the things that are the
least characteristic of believers in these last days. Thus, the Body of the Messiah
still lacks unity and remains ineffective compared to what would be the case if
hwhy was being sought in the manner He has prescribed.
Fasting and prayer are the ultimate acts of enduring righteousness because they
are the beginning of all true obedience. Fasting with prayer is one of the ultimate
acts of enduring righteousness because humility is the beginning of the fear of
hwhy.11 Thus, consistent fasting with prayer is the beginning of one possessing true
wisdom in the Spirit. And by this wisdombestowed through abiding in the
Messiahwe will become authentic, humble, and effective servants of the Most
High.

in the teaching of this truth: He warned that some will be great in the Kingdom
while others will be accounted as the least; and the context of His words shows us
this distribution of rewards is directly connected to faith working through
love18through upholding the Torah.19 The emissary, Shaul, taught the very
same thing over this serious matterstating only doers of the Torah would be
justified;20 and numerous times, he warns the believers reward can most certainly
be lost.21 This is why Shaul clearly taught he regarded himself as being in a race
from which he could clearly be disqualified, if it was not properly run.22 These
things show us that absolutely no one is a shoo-in for entering the Kingdom with
reward, greatness, and recognition. The preservation of body and soul23 in the
First Resurrection is a significant part of what Scripture calls the Great
Reward.24 And concerning the reward and inheritance for believers, at least two
things are true:
1. Our reward/inheritance can be great,25 or it can be small/meager/minimized.26
And the Word is also clear that our reward can even be completely lost/stolen. 27
2. Because hwhy is the Ultimate Reward of the righteous,28 all rewards bestowed
by Him will relate to us having more of His Presencemore of His intimate
counselin the resurrection.29 And since we presently obtain the greatest level of
His Presence and intimacy through fasting, prayer, and alms, what does this say
about these great acts of righteousness and their contribution toward our eventual
reward? We now move forward to the main study.

deceiving ourselves.31 And he was surely echoing the teachings of the Messiah,
who instructs us to hear His Word and to do it.32 Keeping in mind the meaning of
emS/shema/hear, we contemplate an instance in which eSwhy taught The Shema
to be the greatest, foremost commandment in all of the Torah:
28 And one of the scribes came, and having heard them
reasoning together, and perceiving that He had answered them
well, asked Him, Which is the first commandment of all? 29
And eSwhy answered him, The first of all the commandments is,
Shema Yisrael, hwhy our Elohim: hwhy is one. 30 And you shall
love hwhy your Elohim with all your heart, and with all your
soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength: this is
the first commandment. Mark 12:28-30
So it was the Messiah who taught us The Shema comprises the greatest
commandment in all of the Torah.33 And there are many implications to the fact
that the very first word of the greatest and most preeminent commandment is
Shema / Hear.34 For if one upholds The Shema, that person will also be found
living a life of faith that subsequently upholds all of the age-abiding and immutable
Torah.35 In all that He did, and in all that He said, eswhy showed He always
walked towards Elohim with a heart of lovedisplayed by an ear that was ever
ready to hear and obey the will of the Father.36 Since the Messiah was the
Promised Seed of Abraham, eSwhy heard the Voice of hwhy. As our Example,
eSwhy directed us to The Shema as well as to the entirety of the age-abiding and
immutable Torah.37

order of Melchizedek. And as we go through our day, His words will abide in us if
we seek hwhy through continual meditation.40 In either casewhether we are in
prayer or in meditationour heart-longing and life-goal should be hearing His
Voice and obeying His Word. When properly understood, we learn that fasting and
prayer are, or should be, the fuelthe energizersof love-derived obedience.
Fasting and prayer are the source of true empowerment for all that we do.41
This is so, because we may only derive light,42
life,43 and joy44 in the Presence of hwhy.
And the Presence of hwhy is most powerfully experienced during times of fasting,
prayer, and alms. This explains why the Adversary does much to keep believers in
darkness and ignorance over these great acts of righteousness. Even in this late
hour, relatively few men who call themselves shepherds are seen directing the
sheep to a life of seeking hwhy through consistent fasting and continual prayer.
And while hwhy says His House will be called a House of Prayer,45 permeating
prayer is the one thing that, even in this later hour, does not characterize our
modern worship. So we should ponder still more about fasting, prayer, and hearing
the Voice of hwhy through consistently seeking the Face of the Most High.

In Hebrew, the word for fast/fasting is Mwu/tsme. And the misparim value for
this word is 136:46
(300) answers to the problem of an uncircumcised (300) heart. [Note: And the phrase hwhy xwr / Ruach hwhy
(the Spirit of YHWH ) has a place value of 60, and a misparim value of 240, totaling a full value of 300.]

Also see Daniel 10:1-12a text which shows the prophets words/prayers were heard on high at the very outset
of his 21-day fast.
6
Since the greatest commandment in all of the Torah is The Shema49
the command to hear His Voice out of a heart motivated by the
believers unbroken love and devotionwe posit that times of fasting
and prayer are special seasons in which we humble ourselves before the
Most High as we seek to hear and obey Him. And this occurs as we
submit to Him and consciously put His will above all else:50 the
Supreme Voice (136) to be heard during times of fasting (136) is the
Voice of hwhy.
Abraham is the father of the faithful and hwhy commended the patriarch for
hearing His Voice and upholding His Torah:
And I will make your seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will
give to your seed all these countries: and in your seed shall all the
nations of the earth be blessed: 5 because that Abraham obeyed My
Voice, and kept My charge: My commandments, My statutes, and My
laws. Genesis 26:4-5
Since Abraham heard the Voice of hwhy, we know fasting and prayer characterized
the life of the patriarch. Through his meekness and humility, the patriarch fulfilled
The Shema. The fact that Abraham registered such great longevityliving to be
175 years of ageis seen as further evidence Abrahams life was characterized by
much fasting and prayer.51 And since Abraham used fasting-related terms52 when
addressing hwhy,53 we have still more evidence that fasting and prayer
characterized the life of the patriarch. And since it is those who are of faith of
Abraham that are heirs according to the promise, we will consider, in depth, how
fasting and prayer prepare us to hear the Voice of hwhy.

preparation of heart that causes hwhy to hear our voice:

This text specifically links the Hebrew word yne / ani / afflict(-ed) with fasting.
Yet some people are of the opinion that the phrase afflict (hne/anah)63 your
soulsa phrase used in connection with Yom HaKippurim (The Day of
Atonement)64has absolutely nothing to do with fasting. However, opinions will
not contribute toward anyone obtaining a reward in the forthcoming, Messianic
Kingdom. The text of Tehillim 35:13 clearly negates the opinions of men, and we
encourage readers not to number among those who miss out on the immense
blessings that come forth in the Spirit from fasting-derived meekness and humility.
The righteous act of fasting is closely related to the Hebrew word for affliction.
And it is through fasting-derived afflictions that the Spirit can most readily
produce the humility of heart, soul, and mind which hwhy so desires to see within
His people. Since the Spirit of hwhy has chosen to abide with the contrite and

brokenhearted,65 fasting and prayer are the means which hwhy has ordained to
write His Torah on our hearts and minds in ways that are not otherwise possible.
So we further consider the word yne/ani / afflict(-ed) / humble(-d). Its various
forms appear in a fasting-related context so often that the Spirit clearly shows us its
relationship to the act of fasting. The word afflicted (yne/ani) is not always so
rendered; sometimes this word is translated as humbled:
I humbled my soul with fasting
Tehillim/Psalm 35:13
This is the same text we just considered and it was seen the word (yne/ani) had
been rendered by various translators as afflicted. In other places, the root
(hne/anah) of this word (yne/ani) changes forms (to wne/anav) and it is then
translated as meek or humble:
And the man Mosheh was very meek,
above all the men that were upon
the face of the earth.
Bemidbar/Numbers 12:3
Yet this statement was written of Mosheh at a time which followed his 80 days of
fasting and prayer on Mount Sinai. Mosheh had sought hwhy during that time of
extended affliction and humility (yne/ani) and the result was his remarkable
meekness (wne/anav). And the Hebrew misparim/numbers confirm the fact that
Mosheh had sought (and found) meekness and righteousness66 during those times
of drawing near to hwhy with fasting and prayer. So we are amazed, edified, and
blessed when pondering the first four words of the Hebrew text of the above
Scripture:

Elohim and His righteousness.71 In one of these, the Messiah mentions the hunger
and thirst for righteousness expressed by one who is fasting before hwhy:
The greatest expression of our hunger and thirst
for righteousness occurs during these most
special times of fasting and prayer.
Ruach haQodesh72 signifies that our seasons of fasting and prayer are set apart
times for fulfilling The Shema as we learn to hear the Voice of hwhy with ever
increasing clarity:73
It is only when our heart is inclined
to hear and obey His Voice, and it is only then
that our voice will be heard on high.74
And as we walk in seasons of fasting-derived humility, hwhy bestows upon us the
ever-increasing favor He has promised to the humble; and with the impartation of
favor comes still greater wisdom and knowledge. For humility is the hallmark
which will surround those times of reverent fasting and prayer; and it is humility
which makes these times an acceptable offering before the Most High. Of course,
the lack of food and the dependence on Elohim will help to foster this attitude of
humility and that is an obviously intended result in the Mind of hwhy:
The supreme expression of love for hwhy
is humble, loving submission before His sovereign will
as we seek to know, to hear, and to do His Word.
Seeking and finding meekness and humility is the all-important beginning of living
a life that truly fulfills The Shema. And while we emphasize it is only a beginning,
such seeking is still an all-important and ever-essential beginning, nonetheless. Our
times of fasting with prayer will fuel those love-driven deeds which are motivated
by the desire to bring the greatest honor to the Name of hwhy. The prophet David
was driven in this manner and his life remains an example of love and zeal for the
Most High.

14
But now your kingdom shall not continue:
hwhy has sought Him a man like (according to) His heart,75
and hwhy has appointed him to be prince over His people,
because you have not kept that which hwhy commanded you.
1Samuel 13:14
Many centuries later, the emissary Shaul would say likewise:
And when He had removed him, He raised up
David to be their king; to whom also He bore witness
and said, I have found David, the son of Jesse,
a man like My heart,76 who shall do all My will.
Acts 13:22
Have readers had occasion to ponder what it means that Davids heart was like the
heart of hwhy? We can find many aspects of Davids life and character that
reflected the heart-cry of the Most High; the following are at least some of the
major ones recorded:
Davids zeal burned to honor his father and that honor motivated him to rescue
Jesses sheep from a lion and a bear.77
Just before going forth to battle against Goliath, Davids zeal not only burned to
vindicate hwhy against the uncircumcised Philistine, but he also expressed his trust
that Elohim would deliver him from the giant.78
David greatly valued the Presence of hwhy, and we see this when he spoke of
Yisrael failing to seek Elohim at the Ark of the Covenant (the Ark of His
Strength79) in the days of Shaul:
1 And David consulted with the captains of thousands and of
hundreds, and with every leader. 2 And David said to all the
congregation of Yisrael, If it is good to you, and of hwhy our
Elohim, let us send abroad to our brothers everywhere, that are
left in all the land of Yisrael, and with them also to the priests and
Levites in their cities and common lands, that they may assemble to
us: 3 and let us bring again to us the Ark of our Elohim: for we
enquired not at it in the days of Shaul. 1Chronicles13:1-3
75
The Hebrew states David was a man like the heart of hwhy, not a man after the heart of hwhy. See the next
footnote for further details.
76
The Hebrew here does not say David was after the heart of hwhy; it says David was a man like, according to, or
in accordance with the heart of hwhy. There are other Scriptures which clearly indicate David pursued/sought after
the Face of hwhy (Tehillim/Psalm 63:1-2, 8, 1Kings 9:4, 14:8, 15:3); this instance is just not one of them.

Tehillim/Psalms 132:8, 2Chronicles 6:41; this shows us true and enduring strength is derived from being in the
Presence of hwhy.
15
The Ark represented the light and Presence of hwhy,80 so it is telling David wanted
it restored to his kingdom. And there are many other texts which show us how
greatly David valued the light and Presence of hwhy.81
David made instruments of praise to worship hwhy.82
David wrote beautiful, heartfelt, and moving songs of praise to magnify the Name
of hwhy. Countless millions have since derived blessings of faith and comfort from
Tehillim, the Psalms.
David remembered to extend kindness to the lame and helpless Mephibosheth, of
the house of Shaul.83
Like Abraham, who taught his household,84 David taught the Torah to his son,
Shelomo/Solomon.85
David desired to build a House to perpetually honor the Name of hwhy.86
David fasted and prayed to express sincere mourning, even for a sick enemy.87
And like his forefather, Abraham,88 David was a man who lived to hear and obey
the Voice of hwhy, to fulfill The Shema.89
Book Two of Tehillim (the Psalms) ranges from Psalm 42 to Psalm 72, and the last
of these songs ends with the following sentence: The prayers of David, son of
Jesse, are ended.90 In Hebrew, this sentence is transliterated and translated as
seen below:
For now, we will turn our interest to the last three words of the above sentence:

(fv) 1118
The full value (fv) of David, son of Jesse, is 1118. Once again, we see the
number 1118the numerical equivalent of the first six words of The Shema. This
shows us Davids life was an example of fulfilling The Shema, of hearing the
Voice of hwhy and obeying Him from a heart of love. And because he had a heart
like the heart of hwhy, Davids life was largely a reflection of the coming
Mashiach/Messiahthe One Who would be the ultimate Fulfillment of The
Shema. And so, by Grand Inspiration, Davids name and title92 gives us a value
equal to that of The Shema (1118). Like David and like the Mashiach, those who
seek hwhy by fasting and prayer will also hear His Voice and will be empowered to
do great things for His Name and His Kingdom.93

more carefully heed what had already been spoken as they were now drifting.96
hwhy holds people accountable to hear and obey and each person will stand before
the Judge over all.97 More instruction is obtained in this matter as we see and
ponder what the Spirit of hwhy spoke to a carnal, apostate kinga king whose
idolatrous revelry gained him a fearful rebuke from the Most High only hours
before the permanent demise of his kingdom reign in Babylon. We refer to the
pagan feast of Nebuchadnezzars grandson, Belshazzar. The rebellious descendant
of King Nebuchadnezzar dishonored the Elohim of heaven by defiling the vessels
used for the service of hwhy:
1 Belshazzar, the king, made a great feast to a thousand of his
lords, and drank wine before the thousand. 2 Belshazzar, while
he tasted the wine, commanded to bring the gold and silver
vessels which Nebuchadnezzar, his father,98 had taken out of the
palace which was in Yerushalayim; that the king and his lords,
his wives, and his concubines, might drink therefrom. 3 Then
they brought the gold vessels that were taken out of the palace of
the House of Elohim which was at Yerushalayim; and the king
and his lords, his wives, and his concubines, drank from them. 4
They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, of
brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone. 5 In the same hour came
forth the fingers of a mans hand, and wrote over against the
candlestick upon the plaster of the wall of the kings palace: and
the king saw the part of the hand that wrote. 6 Then the kings
countenance was changed in him, and his thoughts troubled him;
and the joints of his loins were loosed, and his knees smote one
against another. Daniel 5:1-6
While one cannot really imagine witnessing this event, based on Belshazzars
reaction, it must have been a fearful sight. Of course, no one in King Belshazzars
company could interpret the writing, so they would eventually send for Daniel.
Upon entering the scene, Daniel rebukes the king for not humbling himself, even
after Belshazzar had witnessed the historical judgment which the Most High had
sent forth upon his grandfather, Nebuchadnezzar:
22 And you, his son, Belshazzar, have not humbled your heart,
although you knew all this, 23 but have lifted up yourself against
the Sovereign of Heaven; and they have brought the vessels of
His house before you, and you and your lords, your wives and
your concubines, have drunk wine from them; and you have

praised the gods of silver and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and

26 This is the interpretation of the thing:
MNAY: Elah has numbered your kingdom, and brought it to an

The two-fold utterance of anm / mnay / numbered shows us emphasis: the

Yet Nma / amein101 is a Hebrew word which fixes certainty to the declaration.
So this appears to have been a most emphatic declaration from the Most High that
this judgment had been sealed in the Heavens and was unalterable: the judgment
was a surety, and it fell upon Belshazzar and his kingdom that very night.
99
The Aramaic for Elohim is Elah. This is our transliteration.

Genesis 41:32. Additionally, the three letters of the Hebrew word anm / mnay are the same three letters seen
in the Hebrew word Nma / amein, a word which fixes certainty to the declaration.

This word is typically rendered amen in English.

On a recent Shabbat,102 we were blessed to read this account (in English) and were
led of the Spirit to add the words of this famous phrase. This calculation was
undertaken a few hours later and the outcome was amazing, awe-inspiring, and
absolutely stunning:

The entire account of Belshazzars feast underscores the importance of upholding
The Shema as our safeguard against falling into apostasy. From start to finish:
upholding the honor of His Name, hearing the Voice of hwhy with authentic love,
and being intent upon doing His willall these things will remain our greatest
heart-cry if we truly love the Creator, and if we truly wish to dwell in His light-
filled Presence.
Our times of reverent fasting and prayer will fuel this love and reverence beyond
all that we can ask or think. We wish that no one falls into the error of Belshazzar
by failing to hear the Voice of the Most High. Fasting-derived humility is the
safeguard against being lifted up against the Almighty in the manner seen via the
pagan king, Belshazzar. Yet believers who fail to seek hwhy by fasting and prayer
will also fail to hear His Voice; and they, too, will be weighed in the balances and
found wanting. Their reward will be lost or, at best, lessened. In contrast, a move
toward His Presence through consistent fasting and prayer is also a significant
move toward making ones calling and election sure.104 For more than anything
else, it is through fasting and prayer that we humble our souls, learning to hear His
Voice and cultivating the desire to do His all-wise and sovereign will above our
own. So the feast of Belshazzar has really become a warning to all people for all
time:
We must hear and obey what hwhy has
already spoken in His Word, and we must heed
what He has already, long-since established.105

hwhy will send forth the rod of your strength out
of Tziyon: rule in the midst of your enemies.
Tehillim/Psalm 110:4
As many will already know, this is the psalm that prophesies of the Messiah within
His Melchizedek Priesthood. And we have seen many occasions in the Scriptures
in which hwhy sends forth help from His Presence as He sits enthroned on the
Heavenly Mount Tziyon. We especially recall the fast of Daniel as he sought and
found hwhy over the plight of Yisrael in captivity, knowing the 70-year time
allotment had nearly expired that the people should be returned to the Land.115
On a recent Shabbat, we were reminded of this Daniels burden to see the people
of Yisrael freed from Babylon/Babel and restored to the Land. And the reminder
came in the form of a Hebrew word-number revelation. Within a single phrase, the
Hebrew misparim/numbers spoke of Daniels fast, of his accessing the Presence of
hwhy, and of Yisraels restoration to the Land. Below was the text studied on that
particular day:
Oh that the salvation of Yisrael were come out of Tziyon,
when Elohim brings back the captivity of His people:
Yaacov shall rejoice, and Yisrael shall be glad.
Tehillim/Psalm 53:6
The above wording is a poor translation, because the text actually asks a rhetorical
question:

So the phrase salvation out of Tziyon, has a place value equal to 136the
misparim value for Mwu / tsmethe word which means fast/fasting. Yet the full
value (fv) of this phrase (136 + 982) is 1118the value we have seen throughout
the study and which equals the first six words of The Shema. Not only so, the full
value (fv) of mi-Tziyon/out of Tziyon equals 257the misparim value for the
Hebrew word Nwra / a-rne / ark, as in the Ark of the Covenant:

Choosing the Fear of hwhy
Nothing cultivates the fear of hwhy in our hearts at the level which occurs during
times of fasting and prayer. Over the years, the Spirit has revealed and confirmed
this truth in many ways. One such revelation relates to the longevity of Mosheh
and the patriarchs: Abraham lived to be 175 years old;119 Yitschak/Isaac lived to
180;120 Yaacov lived to 147;121 Yoseph lived to the age of 110;122 and Mosheh
lived to 120.123 These men feared hwhy and they expressed / cultivated / advanced
their reverence in the foremost waythrough special (set apart) times of fasting
and prayer. We read in Proverbs, The fear of hwhy prolongs days.124 And science
has finally caught up to the truth of the Bible: studies have conclusively proven
that a lifestyle characterized by what is now commonly called a reduced caloric
intake increases longevity. When people only eat twice a day, and when their
meals are composed of smaller portions, they are healthier and also live longer. We
posit that consistent fasting before hwhy actually takes the affects of reduced
caloric intake to an even greater level. And we were recently blessed to see
another clear connection between fasting and the fear of hwhy: on the fourth day of
Sukkot-2016, another confirmation was provided through the Ruach via the words
of Shelomo/Solomon in the Proverbs. In search for a text within this book (a text
whose subject matter was actually quite different), the writer was drawn in the
Spirit to a Scripture in the 14th chapter:
~ Mishle/Proverbs 14:26 ~
So a fairly accurate and literal translation of this text would be as follows:
In the fear of hwhy is strong trust, and
for / to / unto his sons shall be a place of refuge.
Mishle/Proverbs 14:26
The numbers ordained in the first four Hebrew words of this verse are absolutely

the Word of hwhy, we are given on the Shabbat a greater light shining on the
Scriptures. This explains why those who honor the sanctity of the Shabbat are also
blessed with a commensurate amount of light and revelation from His Word. But
what is the source of this greater light? The Source of this Light is the very

Like a Cedar in Lebanon
How powerful is our love for hwhy? We have seen The Shema is the greatest Torah
commandment: Nothing in life is greater than loving hwhy and having the desire to
hear and obey His Voice; nothing is more worthwhile than loving the Word of
hwhy and keeping it with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength; nothing is more
important than living by His every word and giving Elohim the splendor for the
wonderful things He has revealed in Scriptureall to the end that we might know
Him and walk more closely with Him. And being in a right relationship with hwhy,
we enjoy the commensurate health, well-being, and prosperity.131
The title for Psalm 92 indicates it is a Song for the Shabbat, and within its lines,
we find The Shema once again. This occurs in the text which speaks of the
righteous flourishing like the palm tree:
The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree;
he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.

The Millennial Reign of the Messiah only begins this extensive Era of enduring
peace and worldwide prosperity. The increase of His government will occur across
many eons. And it appears the apostle Shaul wrote of the Great Consummation
that will, at long last, once all 1000 generations prophesied have lived upon the
earth. This may be a time which is 40,000 to 100,000 years in the still-distant
future:
22 For as in Adam all die, even so in the Messiah shall all be made
alive. 23 But every man in his own order: the Messiah, the first-fruits;
afterward they that are the Messiahs at His coming. 24 Then comes the
end, when He shall have delivered up the Kingdom to Elohim, even the
Father; when He shall have put down all rule, and all authority, and
power. 25 For He must reign until He has put all enemies under His
feet. 26 The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death. 27 For He has
put all things under His feet. But when He says, All things are put
under Him, it is manifest that He is excepted who did put all things
under Him. 28 And when all things shall be subdued to Him, then shall
the Son also Himself be subject to Him that put all things under Him,
that hwhy may be all in all. 1Corinthians 15:22-28
And Shaul wrote of this Great Consummation in yet anther place:
9 Having made known unto us the secret of His will, according to His good
pleasure which He has purposed in Himself: 10 that in the dispensation of
the fullness of times, He might gather together into one all things in the
Messiah, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in Him.

The Sovereign hwhy could have easily ordained this phrase to have a full value of
1118 (matching The Shema) and yet He did not. That it does add to 1117and that
this is just one short of 1118we believe, is our indication that this was spoken by
hwhy in prophetic anticipation of the Time which shall see all His purposes
fulfilled at the Great Consummation. This will be the Time when every knee bows
before Him, when He is One (fully unified) with all of His Creation. This will be
the Time when He is All in all and His great plan for the Ages has been totally
fulfilled.143 This will be the Time when The Shema is completely fulfilled in its
grandest form. As believers, we have the awesome opportunity to experience a
taste of this oneness even now, in this lifeand at the greatest level(s)when we
are before Him in fasting and prayer with a desire to hear His Voice and fulfill The
Shema.

Closing Thoughts
The Hebrew word shema/emS means hear. In our opening text, this word
serves as a call to hear the Eternal Word of hwhy, the Elohim of Yisrael. It is a call
to hear and obey the King of Yisrael from a heart of lovenot from a lukewarm
heart acting out of a sense of mere moral duty, and not from an even colder heart
motivated by an outward show of religious display or an arrogant self-exaltation
steered by the religious self-supremacy people so often feel due to the punishable
pride of denominational or doctrinal idolatry. If eSwhy taught us to uphold the
Eternal precepts of the Age-Abiding Torah (and He did 144), then those who
castigate such a life of loving obedience (by calling it legalism) are setting forth
their Messiah as a senseless imposter before all the world. When eSwhy taught us
to seek first the Kingdom of Elohim and His righteousness, He was directing us to
fulfill The Shema with a reverent life characterized by fasting and prayer. Of
course, we cannot fast 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, but the reverence and
humility that we cultivate during those special times of fasting will remain with us
as we emerge from our sanctuary of affliction, seeking, and waiting in His
awesome Presence.

We have seen the great connection between fasting and fulfilling The Shema. The
carnal man rejects fasting outright, perhaps due to the unwillingness to suppress
the appetite even for relatively brief periods of time.149 One could rightly expect
this from the unconverted. But that scores of sincere believers outright reject
fasting is a concern of significant proportions. There is an ancient saying which
pertains to the beginning of a great venture, and it goes something like this:
The journey of a thousand miles
begins with the first step.
Our spiritual sojourn through this life is much like that 1000-mile foot journey.
Once one has placed his or her faith in the Messiah, if that person refuses to seek
hwhy by fasting and prayer, then the first major leg of this life-long journey can
never be what our Savior has always intended. And it might be argued that, apart
from consistent times in fasting with prayer, this journey has still not really even
begun in earnest.
To follow the Lamb wherever He goes,150 we must believe and keep His
Teachings.151 And He clearly teaches His followers the importance of fasting
through The Beatitudes.152 The believer who does not fast is much like a light

which continually flickers due to a fluctuating power sourceperhaps caused by a
nearly severed or partially shorted cord. Such light may be minimally helpful, but
it cannot dispel the darkness like the unbroken beam emanating from a lighthouse.
To be sure, fasting is not an end in itself, but it is most certainly a rather significant
and necessary beginningthe beginning expression of the deepest reverence
which cultivates a lasting, far-reaching faith, expectation, and love towards hwhy
El Shaddai. Such seeking is clearly a required beginning in the Mind of hwhy.
Thus, those who refuse to seek hwhy by fasting and prayer153 simply never get past
square one, so to speak. Their service rendered for the Kingdom of hwhy will
most likely be without reward, and their understanding of His Word and ways will
likely remain deficient, watered-down, and incomplete.154
We are commanded to teach every nation all that the Messiah taught. And since
eSwhy clearly indicated a life given to fasting and prayer would characterize His
followers after His ascent into the Heavens,155 we can advocate nothing less.
As with everything in the realm of obedience,
fasting is an act of faith, expectation, and love into
which one must grow. This takes time and dedication.
And the Spirit will lead and teach all
those who desire to obey.
But spiritual growth requires action. A mere mental ascent to the goodness of
fasting will not bring about spiritual benefit. We pray no one will make the mistake
of waiting, only to realize many years from now that you have missed out on so
many vital opportunities to serve your Creator and to enter into a greater spiritual
progression because you failed to humble yourself before Him during so many
special and blessed times of fasting and prayer.
This work has been written in judgment of no one. However, having spoken with
believers across the nation and from around the world, I have often encountered
the close-minded objections of numerous people who outright reject the truth of
fasting. Yet their objections oppose the Word of hwhy and His Messiah. Emerging
from the Dark Ages, many men have died at the stake in their mission to translate
and distribute the Scriptures. For the sake of those reformers, and certainly for the
sake of his Messiah, this author feels obligated to make sure every true doctrine,
and every upright practice, is not set aside in disuse, or ill-repute, based on
unlearned deductions which never came forth from the Mind of hwhy. Fasting
often was taught by the Messiah and practiced by all of His emissaries.156 And
reverent fastingalways accompanied by prayer and seekingis the ultimate

Hebrew, there are five letters which take on a special form when ending a word.
Thus, the name sofeet/ending letters (the Hebrew word Pwo/sofmeans
end/conclusion).
3
Here are the five letters which take on a special form when ending a word, per the
Hebrew grammar rules:
The CAPH ( k ) gives the CAPH SOFEET ( K )
The MEM ( m ) gives the MEM SOFEET ( M )
The NUN ( n ) gives the NUN SOFEET ( N )
The PE/FE ( p ) gives the FE SOFEET ( P )
The TZADE ( u ) gives the TZADE SOFEET ( U )
Of further interest (and really amazing when you think about it) is the relationship
between the Hebrew words Aleph and Eleph:
The first letter of the Aleph-Beit is Aleph: a. The name of this letter
is actually rendered using three Hebrew letters:
Pla / Aleph.
Yet these are the same letters that form the Hebrew word which
means 1000:
Pla / Eleph.
Aleph and Eleph have the same three letters, only with different
vowel points (leading to a slightly different pronunciation).
So unlike the Misparim and Place Value System, the Sofeet-1000 System forms a
full, complete cycleand one in which the end is declared from the beginning.160
(In at least one location in the prophet Ezekiel, the word Pla / Aleph is used
interchangeably with the word Pla / Eleph and both words are there translated
1000.)
