Weighed in the Balances and Found Wanting

Who Will Partake in the First Resurrection?
Shema/Hear Yisrael, hwhy is our Elohim, hwhy is one.
And you shall love hwhy your Elohim with all your heart,
and with all your soul, and with all your strength.
Deuteronomy 6:4-51
a Featuring The Shema and its relationship to fasting and prayer, this study will
provide an overview of what the believer can do to best hear the Voice of hwhy and
to make his or her calling and election sure.2 Apart from a life characterized by
fasting and prayer, believers will never experienceand will never make
significant progress towardsauthentic humility as hwhy defines it.3 For the
lowliness of mind which is fed by the Spirit of the Most High is only obtained
through fasting-derived humility. And the Spirit of hwhy abides in and around the
humble.4 Humility is critical for our service to hwhy since He will only bestow
increasing grace (hereafter, favor) upon those who are humble before Him.5
Apart from fasting and prayer, it is impossible to partake in Kephas6 directive7
that we grow in favor and in the knowledge of the Sovereign.
The problem today is: there are many believers who are growing in knowledge, but
apart from consistent fasting and prayer, they are not growing in favor; they are
not growing in the amount of favor they can obtain before the Throne of the Most
High. And knowledge, standing alone, is not really knowledge at all. Knowledge
must be tempered with the fruit of the Spirit. Those who spout knowledgeapart
from feeding others with the fruit of the Spiritare out-of-balance; they sow
confusion, untruth, and false witness. Yet the fruit of the Spiritthe fruit of
righteousness8will only grow in the Light of His Presence9 (in prayer). Thus,
fasting and prayer (in His Presence) are the means by which the believer makes
true, lasting spiritual progress. This is why fasting and prayer are the most

1
Jewish tradition divides this Commandment into two separate parts: The Shema (Deuteronomy 6:4) and The
Vahavta (Deuteronomy 6:5). Since the Messiah made no such division (He taught the entire text embodies the
single, greatest commandment), we will refer to both verses as The Shema (capitalized and italicized).

powerful spiritual weapons in our arsenal.10 Yet a great many believers do not
even consistently access the Presence of hwhy through continual prayer, much less
through Spirit-led times of fasting. Clearly, the Adversary has done much to hinder
our times in prayer; and he has done much to draw away the believer from those
special times of consistent fasting and prayer that will bring down the strongholds
of darkness. Generally speaking, fasting and prayer are the things that are the
least characteristic of believers in these last days. Thus, the Body of the Messiah
still lacks unity and remains ineffective compared to what would be the case if
hwhy was being sought in the manner He has prescribed.
Fasting and prayer are the ultimate acts of enduring righteousness because they
are the beginning of all true obedience. Fasting with prayer is one of the ultimate
acts of enduring righteousness because humility is the beginning of the fear of
hwhy.11 Thus, consistent fasting with prayer is the beginning of one possessing true
wisdom in the Spirit. And by this wisdombestowed through abiding in the
Messiahwe will become authentic, humble, and effective servants of the Most
High.

The context of many Scriptures shows us that, in Hebrew, emS/shema means

hear and obey. Hearing the Voice of hwhy and walking in love-derived obedience
is the greatest thing which anyone can do while sojourning through this brief life.
Hearing His Voice is the beginning of true obedienceof loving service to hwhy
and eventual greatness in the Messianic Kingdom Era. All that we do should be
done in a spirit of love directed toward the Most High.12 And, ultimately, as the
Savior indicated, our love for hwhy is not real unless it translates into love for our
neighbor.13
It may be surprising for some to realize, but not all believers will be accounted
worthy to partake in the First Resurrection.14 Attaining to the First Resurrection is
a high honor and it is not one which hwhy will bestow on those who walk in
unfaithful disobedience.15 While we are saved by grace, we are rewarded for love-
driven obedience. No obedience translates into No reward. Regarding this
critical matter, the Messiah even instructs us that only those who are accounted
worthy will attain to the First Resurrection.16 This explains why eSwhy warned
that many shall seek to enter in and will not be able.17 We can only take this to
mean that many will lose their reward: they will not attain to the First
Resurrection, even though they had desired to do so. Our Messiah was the Leader

in the teaching of this truth: He warned that some will be great in the Kingdom
while others will be accounted as the least; and the context of His words shows us
this distribution of rewards is directly connected to faith working through
love18through upholding the Torah.19 The emissary, Shaul, taught the very
same thing over this serious matterstating only doers of the Torah would be
justified;20 and numerous times, he warns the believers reward can most certainly
be lost.21 This is why Shaul clearly taught he regarded himself as being in a race
from which he could clearly be disqualified, if it was not properly run.22 These
things show us that absolutely no one is a shoo-in for entering the Kingdom with
reward, greatness, and recognition. The preservation of body and soul23 in the
First Resurrection is a significant part of what Scripture calls the Great
Reward.24 And concerning the reward and inheritance for believers, at least two
things are true:
1. Our reward/inheritance can be great,25 or it can be small/meager/minimized.26
And the Word is also clear that our reward can even be completely lost/stolen. 27
2. Because hwhy is the Ultimate Reward of the righteous,28 all rewards bestowed
by Him will relate to us having more of His Presencemore of His intimate
counselin the resurrection.29 And since we presently obtain the greatest level of
His Presence and intimacy through fasting, prayer, and alms, what does this say
about these great acts of righteousness and their contribution toward our eventual
reward? We now move forward to the main study.

Fulfilling The Shemathe Greatest Commandment

In Hebrew, the word emS/shema means to hear. Many Scriptures show us that
hear has a far greater meaningthat this word enjoins us to hear with a heart
which is ready to do and to obey. While it is important to seek to hear the Voice of
Wisdom on a daily basis,30 upon hearing, we must also be prepared to respond to
the revealed will of hwhy. Of course, any level of obedience is meaningless if it is
not motivated by love and reverence for hwhy. It is possible to hear without doing,
and Yaacov (James) even warns us to be doers of the word and not hearers only

deceiving ourselves.31 And he was surely echoing the teachings of the Messiah,
who instructs us to hear His Word and to do it.32 Keeping in mind the meaning of
emS/shema/hear, we contemplate an instance in which eSwhy taught The Shema
to be the greatest, foremost commandment in all of the Torah:
28 And one of the scribes came, and having heard them
reasoning together, and perceiving that He had answered them
well, asked Him, Which is the first commandment of all? 29
And eSwhy answered him, The first of all the commandments is,
Shema Yisrael, hwhy our Elohim: hwhy is one. 30 And you shall
love hwhy your Elohim with all your heart, and with all your
soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength: this is
the first commandment. Mark 12:28-30
So it was the Messiah who taught us The Shema comprises the greatest
commandment in all of the Torah.33 And there are many implications to the fact
that the very first word of the greatest and most preeminent commandment is
Shema / Hear.34 For if one upholds The Shema, that person will also be found
living a life of faith that subsequently upholds all of the age-abiding and immutable
Torah.35 In all that He did, and in all that He said, eswhy showed He always
walked towards Elohim with a heart of lovedisplayed by an ear that was ever
ready to hear and obey the will of the Father.36 Since the Messiah was the
Promised Seed of Abraham, eSwhy heard the Voice of hwhy. As our Example,
eSwhy directed us to The Shema as well as to the entirety of the age-abiding and
immutable Torah.37

order of Melchizedek. And as we go through our day, His words will abide in us if
we seek hwhy through continual meditation.40 In either casewhether we are in
prayer or in meditationour heart-longing and life-goal should be hearing His
Voice and obeying His Word. When properly understood, we learn that fasting and
prayer are, or should be, the fuelthe energizersof love-derived obedience.
Fasting and prayer are the source of true empowerment for all that we do.41
This is so, because we may only derive light,42
life,43 and joy44 in the Presence of hwhy.
And the Presence of hwhy is most powerfully experienced during times of fasting,
prayer, and alms. This explains why the Adversary does much to keep believers in
darkness and ignorance over these great acts of righteousness. Even in this late
hour, relatively few men who call themselves shepherds are seen directing the
sheep to a life of seeking hwhy through consistent fasting and continual prayer.
And while hwhy says His House will be called a House of Prayer,45 permeating
prayer is the one thing that, even in this later hour, does not characterize our
modern worship. So we should ponder still more about fasting, prayer, and hearing
the Voice of hwhy through consistently seeking the Face of the Most High.

In Hebrew, the word for fast/fasting is Mwu/tsme. And the misparim value for
this word is 136:46

(mv) 136 = (40) M + (6) w + (90) u = Mwu = tsme = fast/fasting

The number values of the Hebrew lettersand the words they subsequently
formhave been appointed and inspired by the Infinite Mind of the Sovereign
hwhy. This being the case, the Spirit often reveals significant, spiritual implications
between Hebrew words that have the very same number values.47 And the number

All misparim and place values seen in this study may be verified using the Hebrew Number Charts which appear
at the end of the present document. The word misparim is a transliteration of the Hebrew word Myrpom,
meaning numbers. In honor of the Elohim of the Hebrews, the writer generally uses the term misparim over the
Greek-based word gematria.
47
And we now provide a relative example via the Hebrew Myhla xwr/Ruach Elohim/the Spirit of Elohim and
the word uncircumcised. Both Hebrew expressions have a misparim value of 300:

(mv) 300= (30) l + (200) r + (70) e = lre = arel/uncircumcised

(mv) 300 = (40) M + (10) y + (5) h + (30) l + (1) a + (8) x + (6) w + (200) r = Myhla xwr = Ruach Elohim
Evidence indicates the apostle Shaul was well unaware of this exact numerical connection and the resulting
spiritual implications. For those implications revealed to Shaul by hwhy over the matter are now seen within many
of his writings: numerous times he connects circumcision of heart with Ruach Elohim/the Spirit of Elohim.
Romans 2:28-29, Philippians 3:3, Galatians 5:16-17, Colossians 2:11-12 And the message is clear: Ruach Elohim
5
connections derived in the Spirit actually compose the built-in Commentary of
hwhy over His awesome Word. A prime example of this number-connection-
Commentary is seen in the link between the Hebrew words for fasting / Mwu /
tsme and voice / lwq / kol. To our amazement and edification, 136 is also the
misparim value for the Hebrew word translated voice ( lwq / kol):

(mv) 136 = (30) l + (6) w + (100) q = lwq = kol/voice

So both Mwu/tsme/fast/fasting and lwq/kol/voice have equal values of 136.
This inspired numerical relationship between Mwu/tsme/fast/fasting and
lwq/kol/voice is far from coincidental. Along with every other number connection
in Scripture, this was ordained by hwhy to teach us. But what might be concluded
from the amazing connection which the Spirit of hwhy has established between
these two Hebrew words? What does the Spirit reveal based on other Scriptures? A
cursory interpretation would fail to rightly divide the Word of truth by only citing
those texts which indicate the believers voice is heard on high whenever we
reverently fast before hwhy:
Behold, you fast for strife and contention,
and to smite with the fist of lawlessness: you fast not
this day so as to make your voice to be heard on high.
Isaiah 58:4
While this shows us one aspect, one result, of fasting (i.e., our voice being heard on
high), is this really the thing of greatest importance during such times? As
important as it may be, is our voice being heard on high the most vital part of
fasting? If the above Scripture was the only evidence which we pondered over this
matter, a false conclusion could be easily derived; and we would incorrectly state
the main purpose of fasting is that our voice should be heard on high. To be sure,
there is no need to negate this obvious revelation; there is an immediate and
apparent connection between fasting and prayer, and this is the beauty of the
Inspired word-number connections encoded into the Hebrew language by the
Omniscient Providence of hwhy:
Our voice is certainly heard on high during
those times of reverent worship characterized
by fasting-derived humility.48
Even so, is our voice really the most important of all voices to be heard during
such times? It is not difficult to establish the answer to that question is a simple
and verifiable, No.

(300) answers to the problem of an uncircumcised (300) heart. [Note: And the phrase hwhy xwr / Ruach hwhy
(the Spirit of YHWH ) has a place value of 60, and a misparim value of 240, totaling a full value of 300.]

Also see Daniel 10:1-12a text which shows the prophets words/prayers were heard on high at the very outset
of his 21-day fast.
6
Since the greatest commandment in all of the Torah is The Shema49
the command to hear His Voice out of a heart motivated by the
believers unbroken love and devotionwe posit that times of fasting
and prayer are special seasons in which we humble ourselves before the
Most High as we seek to hear and obey Him. And this occurs as we
submit to Him and consciously put His will above all else:50 the
Supreme Voice (136) to be heard during times of fasting (136) is the
Voice of hwhy.
Abraham is the father of the faithful and hwhy commended the patriarch for
hearing His Voice and upholding His Torah:
And I will make your seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will
give to your seed all these countries: and in your seed shall all the
nations of the earth be blessed: 5 because that Abraham obeyed My
Voice, and kept My charge: My commandments, My statutes, and My
laws. Genesis 26:4-5
Since Abraham heard the Voice of hwhy, we know fasting and prayer characterized
the life of the patriarch. Through his meekness and humility, the patriarch fulfilled
The Shema. The fact that Abraham registered such great longevityliving to be
175 years of ageis seen as further evidence Abrahams life was characterized by
much fasting and prayer.51 And since Abraham used fasting-related terms52 when
addressing hwhy,53 we have still more evidence that fasting and prayer
characterized the life of the patriarch. And since it is those who are of faith of
Abraham that are heirs according to the promise, we will consider, in depth, how
fasting and prayer prepare us to hear the Voice of hwhy.

Fasting and Preparation of Heart

Times of fasting and drawing near to hwhy (through prayer) break up the fallow
ground of ones heart. Only the prepared and fertile soil of the heart can receive the
Word and experience the growth which magnifies hwhy.54 Of this remarkable
reality, hwhy spoke these words through the prophet Hoshea:
Sow to yourselves for righteousness, reap according to
chesed/kindness; break up your fallow ground: for it is time
to seek hwhy, until He comes and rains righteousness upon you.
Hoshea/Hosea 10:12

51
We read in Proverbs, The fear of hwhy prolongs days (Mishle/Proverbs 10:27) and nothing cultivates the fear of
hwhy in our hearts at the level which occurs during times of fasting and prayer.
52
(i.e., dust and ashes)
53
On dust and ashes, as it relates to fasting, see the following: Genesis 18:27, Job 30:19, 42:6, Ezekiel 37:20,
Joshua 7:6, Job 2:12, Lamentations 2:10
54
Matthew 13:1-23
7
The analogy is clear: just as the hardened soil is unprepared to receive seeds for
planting, the hardened heart is unprepared to receive the blessed seed of the Word
of hwhy through the Spirit. James even called this Word of Elohim the implanted
Word.55 And he conveyed thatapart from fasting-derived meekness and
humilitythe Word would not grow in the life of a believer.56 This gives us a
clearer view of the Saviors teaching over that which chokes out the Word in the
life of a believer.57 In contrast, a softened heart is one which is prepared to hear
and obey the Voice of hwhy.58 Thus, fasting and prayer prepare our hearts to grow
in the Word (that is, to have His Word grow within us59) and to obtain still more of
the Presence of hwhy. This, in turn, enlarges our sphere of service for the Kingdom.
During times of fasting and prayer, the Spirit of hwhy works still greater humility
in our hearts and minds, and we carry forth that humility with us upon emerging
from those times of humbling and affliction. True fasting cleanses the heart of
spiritual and emotional uncleanness that may attempt to linger or gain a foothold in
our lives. Fasting and prayer, then, prepare our heart60 to see the salvation of hwhy
at still greater levels and in still greater ways. The Hebrew word used for this
preparation of heart is Nwk /koon, and it is most often translated as prepare(-d).
But let us compare the full value (fv) of this word, prepare, with the full value
for the Hebrew word translated as circumcise(-d):

(pv) 31 = (14) N + (6) w + (11) k = Nwk = koon = prepare/establish

(mv) 76 = (50) N + (6) w + (20) k = Nwk = koon = prepare/establish
==========
(fv) 107

(pv) 31 = (12) l + (6) w + (13) m = lwm = mol = circumcise(-d)

(mv) 76 = (30) l + (6) w + (40) m = lwm = mol = circumcise(-d)
==========
(fv) 107
We doubt there could be anything more amazing, or anything more awesome, in all
of the Scriptures. Not only does the full value exactly match for these two words,
but so do their place values (31) and their misparim values (76). Let there be no
doubt that reverent fastingalways characterized by reverent prayer and complete
deference and humility before the will of hwhyprepares the heart and allows the
Spirit the means to cleanse our inner man, to mold us anew, and to make us vessels

I Afflicted (Humbled) My Soul With Fasting

So the Word of Elohim indicates that it is preparation of heart which causes hwhy
to hear our voice. And this becomes even more apparent as we ponder a special
text in which David speaks of humbling/afflicting his soul with fasting. The
Hebrew word for afflict(-ed) is yne/ani and it means afflict(-ed) or humble(-
d). and this is the word used by the prophet David in the text of Tehillim/Psalm
35:
But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing
was sackcloth: I afflicted my soul with fasting;
and my prayer returned into my bosom.
Tehillim/Psalm 35:13
The phrase translated, I afflicted my soul with fasting, looks like this in Hebrew:

yspn Mwub ytyne

naph-shi btsome aniti
my soul with I afflicted
fasting

This text specifically links the Hebrew word yne / ani / afflict(-ed) with fasting.
Yet some people are of the opinion that the phrase afflict (hne/anah)63 your
soulsa phrase used in connection with Yom HaKippurim (The Day of
Atonement)64has absolutely nothing to do with fasting. However, opinions will
not contribute toward anyone obtaining a reward in the forthcoming, Messianic
Kingdom. The text of Tehillim 35:13 clearly negates the opinions of men, and we
encourage readers not to number among those who miss out on the immense
blessings that come forth in the Spirit from fasting-derived meekness and humility.
The righteous act of fasting is closely related to the Hebrew word for affliction.
And it is through fasting-derived afflictions that the Spirit can most readily
produce the humility of heart, soul, and mind which hwhy so desires to see within
His people. Since the Spirit of hwhy has chosen to abide with the contrite and

brokenhearted,65 fasting and prayer are the means which hwhy has ordained to
write His Torah on our hearts and minds in ways that are not otherwise possible.
So we further consider the word yne/ani / afflict(-ed) / humble(-d). Its various
forms appear in a fasting-related context so often that the Spirit clearly shows us its
relationship to the act of fasting. The word afflicted (yne/ani) is not always so
rendered; sometimes this word is translated as humbled:
I humbled my soul with fasting
Tehillim/Psalm 35:13
This is the same text we just considered and it was seen the word (yne/ani) had
been rendered by various translators as afflicted. In other places, the root
(hne/anah) of this word (yne/ani) changes forms (to wne/anav) and it is then
translated as meek or humble:
And the man Mosheh was very meek,
above all the men that were upon
the face of the earth.
Bemidbar/Numbers 12:3
Yet this statement was written of Mosheh at a time which followed his 80 days of
fasting and prayer on Mount Sinai. Mosheh had sought hwhy during that time of
extended affliction and humility (yne/ani) and the result was his remarkable
meekness (wne/anav). And the Hebrew misparim/numbers confirm the fact that
Mosheh had sought (and found) meekness and righteousness66 during those times
of drawing near to hwhy with fasting and prayer. So we are amazed, edified, and
blessed when pondering the first four words of the Hebrew text of the above
Scripture:

dam wne hSm Syahw

meod anav Mosheh vhaeesh
exceedingly (was)meek Moses And the man

So a literal translation of this phrase would be:

And the man Mosheh was meek exceedingly
Bemidbar/Numbers 12:3
And we note the place value (pv) of the phrase formed by these four Hebrew words
( Vhaeesh Mosheh anav meod ):

+ (5) h+ (21) S+ (13) m + (21) S + (10) y + (1) a + (5) h + (6) w

Do readers recall the Hebrew word which was earlier seen to have a value of 136?
It was the Hebrew word Mwu / tsmethe word which means fast/fasting:

(mv) 136 = (40) M + (6) w + (90) u = Mwu = tsme = fast/fasting

Mosheh sought the Face of hwhy across 80 days of fasting and prayer on Mount
Sinai,67 and the result was the remarkable meekness (wne/anav)of which hwhy
later makes a special note. The example of Mosheh shows us meekness is not
automatic; it is something which must be sought (and found) through times of
fasting and prayer. And the prophet Zephaniah also spoke in the Spirit of the need
to seek for meekness:
Seek you hwhy, all you meek of the earth, who have
performed His judgment. Seek righteousness, seek meekness:
it may be you will be hid in the day of the anger of hwhy.
Zephaniah 2:3, Matthew 5:5, 6:16-18, 33
So we cannot fulfill our Messiahs directive to seek first the Kingdom of Elohim,
and His righteousness,68 apart from serious and consistent times in fasting and
prayer. As we move forward, let us remember the fasting-related connection
between the words for affliction, humility, and meekness. And let us not forget the
Hebrew text we have pondered from the Psalms: I afflicted my soul with fasting:

A Life of Fasting and Prayer Fulfills The Shema

To better understand the Hebrew phrase, I afflicted (humbled) my soul with
fasting, we will look at the first six words of the Greatest Commandment, as it is
seen in the Torah, so that what Abraham fulfilled can be better understood and
fulfilled by those who are sons of Abraham through their belief in the Messiah.
The first six words of The Shema are seen below, and above each word appears the
misparim value (in red) and the place value (in blue):

13/13 26/26 48/102 26/26 64/541 50/410

(is) one YHWH our Elohim YHWH Israel Hear

67
Mosheh fasted forty days the first time (Deuteronomy 9:9, 11), with another forty days almost immediately
afterward. Deuteronomy 9:18, 25, 10:10
68
Matthew 6:33
11
Adding the values seen in red, the total misparim value (mv) of this phrase is
1118:69

(mv) 1118 = 13 + 26 + 102 + 26 + 541 + 410

The main goal in fasting and prayer should be to fulfill The Shema in our personal
lives. Yet we often fast and pray to privately bear the burdens of others and
because we are seeking hwhy to open the doors of favor in the heavens to help
and/or to bless them in some special way. The Scriptures show that these times of
fasting bring us to the humility that hwhy requires before He can bestow His
greatest levels of favor upon us. James wrote about this very thingthat greater
favor which hwhy gives to the humblein a context that is clearly fasting-related:
6 And He gives greater favor. Therefore it says, Elohim resists
the proud, but gives favor to the humble. 7 Submit yourselves
therefore to Elohim. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8
Draw near to Elohim, and He will draw near to you. Cleanse
hands, you sinners, and purify hearts, you double-minded. 9 Be
afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to
mourning, and joy to heaviness. 10 Humble yourselves in the
sight of hwhy, and He will lift you up. James 4:6-10
One law of physics states, For every action, there is an equal and opposite
reaction; and this certainly applies in the spiritual realm. The righteousness of
sincere, reverent fasting on earth will always result in a positive, blessed, and
light-emanating reaction from hwhy in the heavens. And the result(s) will often be
something very tangible which is/are subsequently seen in and around the life of
one who is, thus, truly seeking hwhy.
Of fasting with prayer, it may be accurately
said that there is absolutely nothing that contributes
more greatly toward a believer growing in
the favor and knowledge of hwhy.70
Whenever we hear the Voice of hwhy and He confirms His Word in our lives, our
understanding changes, our vision changes, our whole being changes. At the outset
of this study, it was indicated that the main intent of fasting is to hear the Voice of
hwhy, to hear His Spirit, to grow in our ability to fulfill The Shema. Recall the
Hebrew phraseI afflicted my soul with fastingthat we just pondered at
length. We show this text, once again, in its Hebrew form; and then we will
calculate the misparim value (mv) of the three-word phrase:

69
Readers are invited to confirm all misparim (mv) and place values (pv) using the charts which appear at the end of
this study. It is an easy process and it is one which yields edification beyond description.

(mv) 1118 = 13 + 26 + 102 + 26 + 541 + 410

Could anything be clearer than this Inspired, marvelous, and amazing number
connection we are provided by the Spirit of Elohim?
When we humble our souls with fasting,
we are especially preparing our hearts to
hear His Voice and to fulfill The Shema.
It is not a coincidence that this phraseI afflicted my soul with fastingand
The Shema both have a misparim value of 1118. This is so by Infinite Design and
Blessed Providence. The Sovereign hwhy has provided us with very telling
evidence about hearing His Voice:
Fasting and prayer are the faith
expressions of those who desire still
more of His Spirit and Presence.
The Spirit reveals that, in each of what we now call The Beatitudes, eSwhy is
clearly teaching His followers the importance of fasting and prayeralong with
showing us various aspects of this essential aspect of seeking first the Kingdom of

13
Elohim and His righteousness.71 In one of these, the Messiah mentions the hunger
and thirst for righteousness expressed by one who is fasting before hwhy:
The greatest expression of our hunger and thirst
for righteousness occurs during these most
special times of fasting and prayer.
Ruach haQodesh72 signifies that our seasons of fasting and prayer are set apart
times for fulfilling The Shema as we learn to hear the Voice of hwhy with ever
increasing clarity:73
It is only when our heart is inclined
to hear and obey His Voice, and it is only then
that our voice will be heard on high.74
And as we walk in seasons of fasting-derived humility, hwhy bestows upon us the
ever-increasing favor He has promised to the humble; and with the impartation of
favor comes still greater wisdom and knowledge. For humility is the hallmark
which will surround those times of reverent fasting and prayer; and it is humility
which makes these times an acceptable offering before the Most High. Of course,
the lack of food and the dependence on Elohim will help to foster this attitude of
humility and that is an obviously intended result in the Mind of hwhy:
The supreme expression of love for hwhy
is humble, loving submission before His sovereign will
as we seek to know, to hear, and to do His Word.
Seeking and finding meekness and humility is the all-important beginning of living
a life that truly fulfills The Shema. And while we emphasize it is only a beginning,
such seeking is still an all-important and ever-essential beginning, nonetheless. Our
times of fasting with prayer will fuel those love-driven deeds which are motivated
by the desire to bring the greatest honor to the Name of hwhy. The prophet David
was driven in this manner and his life remains an example of love and zeal for the
Most High.

David, Son of Jesse: A Man Like the Heart of hwhy

The Most High declared to Samuel that Davids heart was like the heart of hwhy.
We see this when Shmuel (Samuel) rebuked King Shaul, indicating the kingdom
reign would be given over to David:

because you have not kept that which hwhy commanded you.
1Samuel 13:14
Many centuries later, the emissary Shaul would say likewise:
And when He had removed him, He raised up
David to be their king; to whom also He bore witness
and said, I have found David, the son of Jesse,
a man like My heart,76 who shall do all My will.
Acts 13:22
Have readers had occasion to ponder what it means that Davids heart was like the
heart of hwhy? We can find many aspects of Davids life and character that
reflected the heart-cry of the Most High; the following are at least some of the
major ones recorded:
Davids zeal burned to honor his father and that honor motivated him to rescue
Jesses sheep from a lion and a bear.77
Just before going forth to battle against Goliath, Davids zeal not only burned to
vindicate hwhy against the uncircumcised Philistine, but he also expressed his trust
that Elohim would deliver him from the giant.78
David greatly valued the Presence of hwhy, and we see this when he spoke of
Yisrael failing to seek Elohim at the Ark of the Covenant (the Ark of His
Strength79) in the days of Shaul:
1 And David consulted with the captains of thousands and of
hundreds, and with every leader. 2 And David said to all the
congregation of Yisrael, If it is good to you, and of hwhy our
Elohim, let us send abroad to our brothers everywhere, that are
left in all the land of Yisrael, and with them also to the priests and
Levites in their cities and common lands, that they may assemble to
us: 3 and let us bring again to us the Ark of our Elohim: for we
enquired not at it in the days of Shaul. 1Chronicles13:1-3

75
The Hebrew states David was a man like the heart of hwhy, not a man after the heart of hwhy. See the next
footnote for further details.
76
The Hebrew here does not say David was after the heart of hwhy; it says David was a man like, according to, or
in accordance with the heart of hwhy. There are other Scriptures which clearly indicate David pursued/sought after
the Face of hwhy (Tehillim/Psalm 63:1-2, 8, 1Kings 9:4, 14:8, 15:3); this instance is just not one of them.

The Ark represented the light and Presence of hwhy,80 so it is telling David wanted
it restored to his kingdom. And there are many other texts which show us how
greatly David valued the light and Presence of hwhy.81
David made instruments of praise to worship hwhy.82
David wrote beautiful, heartfelt, and moving songs of praise to magnify the Name
of hwhy. Countless millions have since derived blessings of faith and comfort from
Tehillim, the Psalms.
David remembered to extend kindness to the lame and helpless Mephibosheth, of
the house of Shaul.83
Like Abraham, who taught his household,84 David taught the Torah to his son,
Shelomo/Solomon.85
David desired to build a House to perpetually honor the Name of hwhy.86
David fasted and prayed to express sincere mourning, even for a sick enemy.87
And like his forefather, Abraham,88 David was a man who lived to hear and obey
the Voice of hwhy, to fulfill The Shema.89
Book Two of Tehillim (the Psalms) ranges from Psalm 42 to Psalm 72, and the last
of these songs ends with the following sentence: The prayers of David, son of
Jesse, are ended.90 In Hebrew, this sentence is transliterated and translated as
seen below:

(fv) 1118
The full value (fv) of David, son of Jesse, is 1118. Once again, we see the
number 1118the numerical equivalent of the first six words of The Shema. This
shows us Davids life was an example of fulfilling The Shema, of hearing the
Voice of hwhy and obeying Him from a heart of love. And because he had a heart
like the heart of hwhy, Davids life was largely a reflection of the coming
Mashiach/Messiahthe One Who would be the ultimate Fulfillment of The
Shema. And so, by Grand Inspiration, Davids name and title92 gives us a value
equal to that of The Shema (1118). Like David and like the Mashiach, those who
seek hwhy by fasting and prayer will also hear His Voice and will be empowered to
do great things for His Name and His Kingdom.93

Weighed in the Balances and Found Wanting

We have been given significant evidence that failure to hear and obey hwhy will be
the thing which causes a believer to be rejected from reward and inheritance in the
Kingdom. As recorded in the book of Revelation, the Messiah warned the early
assemblies that they could fail to fulfill The Shema and be found lacking when
hwhy arises to judgment. In speaking His exhortation and/or warning(s) to each
assembly, eswhy always finished His words with this phrase:
He who has ears to hear, let him hear
what the Spirit says to the assemblies.
Revelation 2:7,11,17,29, 3:6,13,22
When mentioning having ears to hear,94 the Messiah was referring to nothing less
than The Shemathe Greatest Commandment. Speaking from the heavens, eswhy
was still teaching us to walk in love95 and to fulfill The Shema:
Hear Yisrael, hwhy is our Elohim, hwhy is one.
Deuteronomy 6:4
He who has ears to hear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the assemblies. This
was the Messiahs warning that they must more fully fulfill The Shema; they must

more carefully heed what had already been spoken as they were now drifting.96
hwhy holds people accountable to hear and obey and each person will stand before
the Judge over all.97 More instruction is obtained in this matter as we see and
ponder what the Spirit of hwhy spoke to a carnal, apostate kinga king whose
idolatrous revelry gained him a fearful rebuke from the Most High only hours
before the permanent demise of his kingdom reign in Babylon. We refer to the
pagan feast of Nebuchadnezzars grandson, Belshazzar. The rebellious descendant
of King Nebuchadnezzar dishonored the Elohim of heaven by defiling the vessels
used for the service of hwhy:
1 Belshazzar, the king, made a great feast to a thousand of his
lords, and drank wine before the thousand. 2 Belshazzar, while
he tasted the wine, commanded to bring the gold and silver
vessels which Nebuchadnezzar, his father,98 had taken out of the
palace which was in Yerushalayim; that the king and his lords,
his wives, and his concubines, might drink therefrom. 3 Then
they brought the gold vessels that were taken out of the palace of
the House of Elohim which was at Yerushalayim; and the king
and his lords, his wives, and his concubines, drank from them. 4
They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, of
brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone. 5 In the same hour came
forth the fingers of a mans hand, and wrote over against the
candlestick upon the plaster of the wall of the kings palace: and
the king saw the part of the hand that wrote. 6 Then the kings
countenance was changed in him, and his thoughts troubled him;
and the joints of his loins were loosed, and his knees smote one
against another. Daniel 5:1-6
While one cannot really imagine witnessing this event, based on Belshazzars
reaction, it must have been a fearful sight. Of course, no one in King Belshazzars
company could interpret the writing, so they would eventually send for Daniel.
Upon entering the scene, Daniel rebukes the king for not humbling himself, even
after Belshazzar had witnessed the historical judgment which the Most High had
sent forth upon his grandfather, Nebuchadnezzar:
22 And you, his son, Belshazzar, have not humbled your heart,
although you knew all this, 23 but have lifted up yourself against
the Sovereign of Heaven; and they have brought the vessels of
His house before you, and you and your lords, your wives and
your concubines, have drunk wine from them; and you have

praised the gods of silver and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and
stone, which see not, nor hear, nor know; and the Elah99 in
whose hand is your breath, and whose are all your ways, you
have not magnified. 24 Then was the part of the hand sent from
before Him, and this writing was inscribed. 25 And this is the
writing that was inscribed:
MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN.
26 This is the interpretation of the thing:
MNAY: Elah has numbered your kingdom, and brought it to an
end.
27 TEKEL: you are weighed in the balances, and are found
wanting/lacking.
28 PERES: your kingdom is divided, and given to the Medes and
Persians. Daniel 5:22-28
So the writing on the wall was:
Mnay, mnay, tekel, oo-phar-seen.
Daniel 5:25
When translated, this sentence literally means:
Numbered, numbered, weighed, and divided.
The two-fold utterance of anm / mnay / numbered shows us emphasis: the
matter was determined by hwhy and He would quickly bring it to pass.100
Additionally, the three letters of the Hebrew word anm / mnay /numbered are
the same three letters seen in the Hebrew word Nma / amein:

a n m
ALEF NUN MEM

N m a
NUN MEM ALEF

Yet Nma / amein101 is a Hebrew word which fixes certainty to the declaration.
So this appears to have been a most emphatic declaration from the Most High that
this judgment had been sealed in the Heavens and was unalterable: the judgment
was a surety, and it fell upon Belshazzar and his kingdom that very night.

99
The Aramaic for Elohim is Elah. This is our transliteration.

Genesis 41:32. Additionally, the three letters of the Hebrew word anm / mnay are the same three letters seen
in the Hebrew word Nma / amein, a word which fixes certainty to the declaration.

This word is typically rendered amen in English.

On a recent Shabbat,102 we were blessed to read this account (in English) and were

absolutely stunning:

============
1118 (mv)
The misparim value (mv) of this entire phrase is 1118. Readers will recall the
number 1118 is identical to the already established misparim value (mv) of The
Shema. Per the words of the Messiah, the Greatest and Foremost Commandment in
the Torah is The Shema.103 Yet the warning given to the pagan king from Heaven
carries the very same numerical value as The Shema! And this was the very thing
which Daniel conveyed in his rebuke to the king.
The prophet Daniel declared to the king he had
failed to hear and obey. Quite simply, Belshazzar
had failed to learn the lesson being taught by Elohim
through the signal judgment which had fallen upon
his grandfather, King Nebuchadnezzar.
It is beyond the amazing that the heavenly decree adds to 1118; it was and is by
Divine Providence. And this great warning now spans the ages as an indictment of
all those who will be weighed in the balance and found wanting. And who will
these be? Who will fall short? Those who fail to enter into the Kingdom (with
reward) will be those who refuse to give hwhy the honor due His Name. It will be
those who, like King Belshazzar, fail to love the Most High Elohim by hearing and
obeying His Word. In his pride, Belshazzar fell into blatant and blasphemous
idolatry. And his actions did not escape the notice of the Elohim of HeavenWho
rendered His judgment, sent it forth, and wrote it on the palace wall just hours
before the final punishment fell on the kingdom of Babel/Babylon.

Mark 12:29-30
20
The entire account of Belshazzars feast underscores the importance of upholding
The Shema as our safeguard against falling into apostasy. From start to finish:
upholding the honor of His Name, hearing the Voice of hwhy with authentic love,
and being intent upon doing His willall these things will remain our greatest
heart-cry if we truly love the Creator, and if we truly wish to dwell in His light-
filled Presence.
Our times of reverent fasting and prayer will fuel this love and reverence beyond
all that we can ask or think. We wish that no one falls into the error of Belshazzar
by failing to hear the Voice of the Most High. Fasting-derived humility is the
safeguard against being lifted up against the Almighty in the manner seen via the
pagan king, Belshazzar. Yet believers who fail to seek hwhy by fasting and prayer
will also fail to hear His Voice; and they, too, will be weighed in the balances and
found wanting. Their reward will be lost or, at best, lessened. In contrast, a move
toward His Presence through consistent fasting and prayer is also a significant
move toward making ones calling and election sure.104 For more than anything
else, it is through fasting and prayer that we humble our souls, learning to hear His
Voice and cultivating the desire to do His all-wise and sovereign will above our
own. So the feast of Belshazzar has really become a warning to all people for all
time:
We must hear and obey what hwhy has
already spoken in His Word, and we must heed
what He has already, long-since established.105

In the Presence of the King

Accompanied by her maidens, Queen Esther fasted and prayed across three days as
she prepared to seek for much needed favor before the king.106 It was, literally, a
matter of life and death. And apart from the favor of hwhy, it would be death many
times over for thousands of the Yahudim/Jews. Esther humbled herself through
fasting and prayer, and she subsequently found favor with the king. And many
have noted how times of fasting and prayer prepare us for a greater impartation of
the Presence of the King. Yet this King is the King of the Universe, the Most High
Elohim. And the light of His Presence will, first of all, transform us.107 Blessed are
those who see the need for continual, ongoing transformation. And the light of
hwhy, thus imparted, will subsequently affect those around us (oftentimes, but not
always, in a positive manner). The Light of hwhy will transform those who walk
within it.108 Recently, a blessed revelation109 reminded us of the story of Esther and

her fast to gain favor before hwhy and the king. The relevance of this simple, yet
most edifying Hebrew, word-number revelation becomes quickly apparent. The
full value (fv) for the Hebrew word Klmh / hamelek / the king adds to 136:

(pv) 41 = (11) K + (12) l + (13) m + (5) h = Klmh/hamelek

(mv) 95 = (20) K + (30) l + (40) m + (5) h = Klmh/hamelek

==========
(fv) 136
Readers may recall this value of 136 exactly matches the misparim value (mv) for
the Hebrew word meaning fast/fasting:

(mv) 136 = (40) M + (6) w + (90) u = Mwu = tsme = fast/fasting

To be sure, we absolutely have access to the Most High through the blood of the
Messiah, and through Him we may draw near to Awesome Presence of Elohim
continually.110 But times of fasting and prayer are meant to markedly fuel and
advance our love and zeal for the things of hwhy. In the case of those who are in
need of a fuller renewal, fasting and prayer will rekindle the spark of repentance,
love, and zeal as it fans the flames of love-driven service. Our times in fasting and
prayer are seasons to become energized in a new and living way; these are times to
progress beyond the current level of knowledge, wisdom, and understanding; these
are times to be still and to know that He is Elohim111 (being still is the prerequisite
for hearing that still, small Voice112); these are times to make significant spiritual
progress as we grow in the amount of favor we may obtain before His Throne.113
And can anyone claim there is no further spiritual progress to be made? And in
these increasingly desperate times, who would not want, or who does not need, an
audience with the King (of the Universe)? Thus, we see the great importance of
fasting with prayer.

Salvation Out of Tziyon

Through fasting and prayer, we draw near to the Presence of hwhy in a special way,
we hear His Voice, and He sends forth help out of the Sanctuary.114 This is a

Tehillim/Psalm 110:4
As many will already know, this is the psalm that prophesies of the Messiah within
His Melchizedek Priesthood. And we have seen many occasions in the Scriptures
in which hwhy sends forth help from His Presence as He sits enthroned on the
Heavenly Mount Tziyon. We especially recall the fast of Daniel as he sought and
found hwhy over the plight of Yisrael in captivity, knowing the 70-year time
allotment had nearly expired that the people should be returned to the Land.115
On a recent Shabbat, we were reminded of this Daniels burden to see the people
of Yisrael freed from Babylon/Babel and restored to the Land. And the reminder
came in the form of a Hebrew word-number revelation. Within a single phrase, the
Hebrew misparim/numbers spoke of Daniels fast, of his accessing the Presence of
hwhy, and of Yisraels restoration to the Land. Below was the text studied on that
particular day:
Oh that the salvation of Yisrael were come out of Tziyon,
when Elohim brings back the captivity of His people:
Yaacov shall rejoice, and Yisrael shall be glad.
Tehillim/Psalm 53:6
The above wording is a poor translation, because the text actually asks a rhetorical
question:

larvy twesy Nwyum Nty ym

Yisrael ye-shu-ote mi-Tsi-yon yi-teyn mi
Israel (the) salvations out of give Who
(of) Zion (will)

So this text should have been better translated as follows:

Who will give out of Tziyon the salvation of Yisrael?
When Elohim brings back the captivity of His people:
Yaacov shall rejoice, and Yisrael shall be glad.
Tehillim/Psalm 53:6
Of course, the believer will realize it is only hwhy who can give this salvation out
of Tziyon. Salvation, we believe, is plural to show its greatness. But for now, we
will study the phrase salvation out of Tziyon. The revelation given by the Spirit
through this phrase only confirms what we have already seen throughout the
present study. And the Hebrew numbers are both edifying and instructive. For this
two-word phrase, we give the place value (in light blue) above each word, while
the misparim value (in red) and the full value (in dark blue) are seen below each
word. And the sum totals for all of these appear to the left:

115
Daniel 9:1-27
23
75 61

136 / 982 / 1118 = twesy Nwyum = salvation out of Tziyon

786 / 861 196 / 257

So the phrase salvation out of Tziyon, has a place value equal to 136the
misparim value for Mwu / tsmethe word which means fast/fasting. Yet the full
value (fv) of this phrase (136 + 982) is 1118the value we have seen throughout
the study and which equals the first six words of The Shema. Not only so, the full
value (fv) of mi-Tziyon/out of Tziyon equals 257the misparim value for the
Hebrew word Nwra / a-rne / ark, as in the Ark of the Covenant:

(mv) 257 = ( 50 ) N + ( 6 ) w + ( 200 ) r + ( 1 ) a = Nwra/a-rne/ark

The Ark of the Covenant was also called the Ark of His Strength,116 and it
represented the Presence of hwhy for Yisrael of old. And it was through the
Presence of hwhy in the Ark that Yisrael prevailed over all its enemies. Of course,
the Ultimate and Fullest Presence of hwhy (that the Ark represented) was, and is, in
the heavens; and when hwhy sends forth the rod of His strength from His Presence
in the Heavenly Mount Tziyon, His people are always delivered.
Considering how mightily this occurred when Daniel fasted and prayed, the
number connections seen above are all most true and edifying. As Daniel fasted
(136) and prayed, he heard the Voice of hwhy (1118), and salvation came forth for
all Yisrael out of the Heavenly Mount Tziyon:117 Yisrael was soon restored to the
Land; Elohim fulfilled His Word and brought back the captivity of His people.
So, once more, we have great evidence of the connection between The Shema and
those who seek (and find)118 hwhy with fasting with prayer. Blessed be the One
who changes not: His Awesome Presence is still sent forth in the Spirit for those
who, like Daniel, seek Him with humility in fasting and prayer. For those who
continually seek hwhyfor those who humble themselves before Him through
fasting and prayerhwhy still sends forth salvation/deliverance out of the
Heavenly Mount Tziyon.

Choosing the Fear of hwhy
Nothing cultivates the fear of hwhy in our hearts at the level which occurs during
times of fasting and prayer. Over the years, the Spirit has revealed and confirmed
this truth in many ways. One such revelation relates to the longevity of Mosheh
and the patriarchs: Abraham lived to be 175 years old;119 Yitschak/Isaac lived to
180;120 Yaacov lived to 147;121 Yoseph lived to the age of 110;122 and Mosheh
lived to 120.123 These men feared hwhy and they expressed / cultivated / advanced
their reverence in the foremost waythrough special (set apart) times of fasting
and prayer. We read in Proverbs, The fear of hwhy prolongs days.124 And science
has finally caught up to the truth of the Bible: studies have conclusively proven
that a lifestyle characterized by what is now commonly called a reduced caloric
intake increases longevity. When people only eat twice a day, and when their
meals are composed of smaller portions, they are healthier and also live longer. We
posit that consistent fasting before hwhy actually takes the affects of reduced
caloric intake to an even greater level. And we were recently blessed to see
another clear connection between fasting and the fear of hwhy: on the fourth day of
Sukkot-2016, another confirmation was provided through the Ruach via the words
of Shelomo/Solomon in the Proverbs. In search for a text within this book (a text
whose subject matter was actually quite different), the writer was drawn in the
Spirit to a Scripture in the 14th chapter:

ze - xjbm hwhy taryb

ohz meev-tach YHWH byir-at
strong (is) trust in the fear (of)

hoxm hyhy wynblw

mock-seh yi-yeh ool-ba-nav

of refuge his sons

~ Mishle/Proverbs 14:26 ~
So a fairly accurate and literal translation of this text would be as follows:
In the fear of hwhy is strong trust, and
for / to / unto his sons shall be a place of refuge.
Mishle/Proverbs 14:26
The numbers ordained in the first four Hebrew words of this verse are absolutely
awe-inspiring. Given below are the word-number connections for these four words.
The place value (in light blue) is seen above each word, while the misparim value

(in red) and the full value (in dark blue) are seen below each word. And the sum
totals for all of these appear to the left (and the very bottom-left):
26 55
81 / 639 / 720 = hwhy taryb = in the fear of YHWH
26/52 613/668

23 32
55 / 136 / 191 = ze - xjbm = is strong trust/confidence
77/100 59/257
===================
Totals: 136 / 775 / 911
While other numbers seen here are certainly of significance, for now, we view the
two occurrences of 136 appearing in the above text. Notice the misparim value (in
red) for ze - xjbm / strong trust is 136, while the total place value (in light blue)
for all four words is also 136. But, as the reader may already recall, 136 is one of
the inspired values related to Mwu/tsme/fast/fasting:

(mv) 136 = (40) M + (6) w + (90) u = Mwu = tsme = fast/fasting

So hwhy has given us a Scripture in Proverbs (14:26) that not only speaks of the
fear of hwhy, but it contains two occurrences of the value 136the value directly
related to the Hebrew word for fasting. Authentic fasting cultivates the fear of
hwhy.
In closing, fasting is a matter of the heart. We have seen how fasting breaks up the
fallow ground of the heart and prepares the soil for the Word of hwhy.125 It is not
coincidental that one form of the Hebrew word for heart is bbl/le-vav and that
this word adds to 34:

(mv) 34 = (2) b + (2) b + (30) l = bbl = le-vav/heart

And the number 34/heart/le-vav is a factor of 136:
136 = 34 x 4
Nor is it coincidental that the Hebrew word for good is bwj/tov and that this
word adds to 17:

(mv) 17 = (2) b + (6) w + (9) j = bwj = tov/good

For 17 is also a factor of 34:
34 = 17 x 2.
Thus, since 34 goes into 136, 17 is also a factor of the larger number:
136 = 17 x 8.
125
Hoshea 10:12
26
Our Messiah knew this word-number connection in the Spirit, and He was teaching
of this relationship when speaking the truth regarding bwj/tov/good overflowing
out of the heart, bbl/le-vav:
A good man out of the good treasure of his heart, brings forth
that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his
heart, brings forth that which is evil: for from the abundance of
the heart his mouth speaks. Luke 6:45
Doubling 17 to get 34 pictures tov / good (17) filling the heart (34 = 17 x 2) and
coming forth from the le-vav / heart (34) as overflow. That 136 is a multiple of
both 17 and 34, makes the point that much stronger about fasting to hear His Voice
and to align our hearts with the heart of hwhy. And it makes the prayer of the
Pharisee than much more repugnant:
That he would exalt himself for fasting (and also look down
on others because of that126) is absolutely antithetical to the heart
of those who truly humble themselves before hwhy during
times of authentic reverence, humility, and affliction.
And we carry forth this humility (toward hwhy and others) even after a time of
fasting has ended. Believers who fast and humble themselves are often falsely
accused of making themselves better than others, but this is the promised
persecution for the Word127 and the Day of Judgment will show otherwise as those
who judge others will have condemned themselves.128 hwhy will save a humble and
afflicted people,129 and such humility is the hallmark of those who seek Him by
fasting and prayer.

Surely My Sabbaths You Shall Keep

The plural for Shabbat/tbS is Shabbatot/twtbS. And in the Book of
Shemot/Exodus, hwhy declares the Shabbat is a sign between Him and His people,
that we may know He is hwhy who set us apart:
You speak also to the sons of Yisrael, saying,
Surely My Shabbatot you shall keep: for it is a sign
between Me and you throughout your generations,
that you may know that I am hwhy that sets you apart.
Shemot 31:13
It is only by the Presence of hwhy that a person, or a thing, may be set apart. In the
case of the Shabbat, we have set apart Time: the Time is set apart by the

Presence/Light/Spirit of hwhy. There is really nothing else like the Seventh Daya
day set apart for us to meet with the Creator by appointment. For those who love
the Word of hwhy, we are given on the Shabbat a greater light shining on the
Scriptures. This explains why those who honor the sanctity of the Shabbat are also
blessed with a commensurate amount of light and revelation from His Word. But
what is the source of this greater light? The Source of this Light is the very
Presence/Spirit of hwhy; it is the Anointing by which He has set apart the Time. On
Day One of the Creation, Elohim declared, Yu-hee ohr / rwa yhy / Let there be
light. The misparim value for rwa / ohr / light is 207:

(mv) 207 = (200) r + (6) w + (1) a = rwa = ohr = light

It is the nature of hwhy to reveal the end from the beginning,130 and He even did
this on a smaller scale across the first week of Creation. We see this when
comparing the misparim values for the words light and Shabbat: while the
misparim value for the word rwa / light is 207, the misparim value for the word
tbS / Shabbat is the exact reversal:

(mv) 702 = (400) t + (2) b + (300) S = tbS = Shabbat

The light created on the First Day culminated in the Light of hwhy which both fills
and sets apart the Seventh Day. And while the Spirit can (and does) reveal His
Word to the believer on any day of the week, the Presence of hwhy by which He
sets apart the Shabbat is the factor which results in us having a heightened
revelation of His Word and ways, if we honor the Day as Time set apart by Him.
The promise and warning spoken to Eli, the priest, was that hwhy would honor
those who honor Him, while those who despised Him would be lightly esteemed:
Therefore hwhy Elohim of Yisrael says,
I said indeed that your house, and the house of your father,
should walk before me for ever: but now hwhy says,
Be it far from me; for those that honor Me, I will honor (dbka),
and they that despise Me shall be lightly esteemed.
1Samuel 2:30
If we honor hwhy by upholding the Shabbat, He honors us by giving us greater
light from His Word and Presence. And, amazingly enough, we see the place value
for light is identical to the misparim value for the Hebrew word dbka / I will
honor:

130
Isaiah 46:9-10, Acts 15:18 > Isaiah 41:4
28

(pv) 27 = (20) r + (6) w + (1) a = rwa = ohr = light

(mv) 27 = (4) d + (2) b + (20) k + (1) a = dbka = I will honor

This shows us one of the marvelous ways by which hwhy bestows His honor upon
the believer:
Via the impartation of His light and splendor,
hwhy honors those who honor Him.
So the Shabbat is a special day to walk in the Light of hwhy, to hear His Voice, and
to learn His ways. And the Spirit reveals a direct connection between keeping the
Shabbat and hearing the Voice of hwhy. Through the prophet Ezekiel, hwhy
rebukes Yisrael of old for not upholding His Shabbat:
I lifted up My hand to them also in the wilderness,
that I would scatter them among the nations, and disperse
them through the countries; 24 because they had not executed
My judgments, but had despised My statutes, and had polluted
My Shabbatot ( ytwtbS ), and their eyes went after their fathers idols.
Ezekiel 21:23-24
The Hebrew word for My Shabbatot (My Sabbaths) is Shabbatotai/ ytwtbS
and the Spirit inspired this word to have a misparim value which exactly matches
the misparim value for the first six words of The Shema:

= ytwtbS = Shabbatotai /My Shabbatot

(mv) 1118 = (10) y + (400) t + (6) w + (400) t + (2) b + (300) S

Yet 1118 is the value we have seen throughout this study; it is the misparim value
of the first six words of the Greatest Commandment in the Torah:
dxa hwhy wnyhla hwhy larvy ems
Shema Yisrael, hwhy Elohenu, hwhy echad.
All of this emphasizes the importance which hwhy places on His people upholding
the Shabbat and setting apart the Day to meet with Him, to hear His Voice, and to
commune with Him even more extensively than on other days.

Like a Cedar in Lebanon
How powerful is our love for hwhy? We have seen The Shema is the greatest Torah
commandment: Nothing in life is greater than loving hwhy and having the desire to
hear and obey His Voice; nothing is more worthwhile than loving the Word of
hwhy and keeping it with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength; nothing is more
important than living by His every word and giving Elohim the splendor for the
wonderful things He has revealed in Scriptureall to the end that we might know
Him and walk more closely with Him. And being in a right relationship with hwhy,
we enjoy the commensurate health, well-being, and prosperity.131
The title for Psalm 92 indicates it is a Song for the Shabbat, and within its lines,
we find The Shema once again. This occurs in the text which speaks of the
righteous flourishing like the palm tree:
The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree;
he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
Tehillim/Psalm 92:14
Using the Sofeet 1000 System, Nwnblb zrak / kerez bal-ba-nohn / like a cedar
in Lebanon has the following place value, misparim value, and full value:

= zrak/like a cedar

39 = (7) z + (20) r + (1) a + (11) k

= Nwnblb = in Lebanon

61 = (25) N + (6) w + (14) n + (2) b + (12) l + (2) b

======
100 (total place value)

= zrak/like a cedar

228 = (7) z + (200) r + (1) a + (20) k

= Nwnblb = in Lebanon

790 = (700) N + (6) w + (50) n + (2) b + (30) l + (2) b

======
1018 (total misparim value)
131
Of course, there are many exceptions to this general statement. To cite a few examples, we have the trials of Job
and the many monetarily poor Messianic believers spread throughout the Middle East in the first century.
30
Adding the total place value of 100 with the total misparim value of 1018, we
arrive at the full value of this phrase within the Sofeet 1000 System:
100 (total place value) + 1018 (total misparim value) = 1118 (full value)
Yet this is the 1118 we have seen throughout our study. And this 1118 was
obtained using the same number system which gave us David, son of Jesse =
1118. This is the 1118 that equals the first six words of The Shema. The
implications are of blessed and far-reaching instruction. A cedar in Lebanon, we
are told, has roots that equal its height: it is a picture of beauty, strength, and
permanence. We are, thus, reminded of the many Scriptures that speak of the
power of righteousness.132 One such text was inspired through Solomon:
Mighty is the wise in strength, and a man of
knowledge is strengthening power.
Mishle/Proverbs 24:5
Those who love hwhy and uphold The Shema are those who set their love upon
Him; and they will progress from strength to strength:
They go from strength to strength,
appearing unto Elohim in Zion.
Tehillim/Psalm 84:7
They will progress from emunah to emunah (translated faith to faith):
For therein the righteousness of Elohim is
revealed from emunah to emunah: as it is written,
The just shall live by emunah.133
Romans 1:17
Of course, it is of considerable importance that this phrase (like a cedar in
Lebanon) appears in the psalm which hwhy has designated for the Shabbat; much
healing, restoration, and spiritual prosperity are to be had for those who uphold the
Seventh Day.134 And above these things, the Shabbat is the centerpiece of a
perpetual covenant of promise:135
hwhy has promised that He will set
apart those who uphold the Seventh Day.136

Tehillim/Psalm 59:16, 110:3, 111:6, 147:5, Daniel 12:7, Matthew 22:29, Luke 1:17, 4:32, John 1:12, Acts 1:8,

The Time When hwhy Shall Become All in All

In the prophet Isaiah, we have a prophetic reference to the time when The Shema
shall be fulfilled in its grandest and most ultimate form:

Nwrxa ynaw NwSar yna

ah-chu-rone137 va-uh-nee ree-shone uh-nee
(the) last and I (am) (the) first I (am)
~ Yeshayah/Isaiah 44:6 ~
However, to arrive at this time, we must fast forward across what looks to be many
millennia in the still-distant future. We speak of a time which will likely even be
many eons past the 1000-Year Millennial Reign of the Messiah. The prophetic
Torah reveals the Name, the nature, the character of hwhy Most High. It reveals
that which is, that which was, and that which is to yet to come.138 And Mosheh
prophesied in the Spirit of a time which will not arrive until the ages have seen
1000 literal generations (beginning with Abraham as Generation One139) live upon
the earth:
Know therefore that hwhy your Elohim,
He is Elohim, the faithful El, who guards the Covenant
and the Chesed with those that love Him and keep His
commandments to a thousand generations.
Deuteronomy 7:9
One thousand generations from Abraham will likely take us many thousands of
years (perhaps even many eons) past the Millennium. This is believed to be the
case since we are presently only some 120 generations from Abraham. Apparently,
the Messianic Era will begin with the Millennial Reign of the Messiah, but it will
extend to a time which sees the fulfillment of the 1000 generations prophesied in
the Torah. This gives us a better idea of how awesome the history of the world is
yet to become. And it gives us a better glimpse of the great things in store for the
Ages to come as the famous Isaiah prophecy unfolds over many millennia:
6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given: and the government
shall be upon His shoulder: and His name shall be called Wonderful,
Counselor, the Mighty El, the Father of Perpetuity, the Prince of Peace.
7 Of the increase of His government and peace there shall be no end,

establish it with judgment and with justice, from henceforth even for
ever. The zeal of hwhy of Hosts will perform this. Isaiah 9:6-7
The Millennial Reign of the Messiah only begins this extensive Era of enduring
peace and worldwide prosperity. The increase of His government will occur across
many eons. And it appears the apostle Shaul wrote of the Great Consummation
that will, at long last, once all 1000 generations prophesied have lived upon the
earth. This may be a time which is 40,000 to 100,000 years in the still-distant
future:
22 For as in Adam all die, even so in the Messiah shall all be made
alive. 23 But every man in his own order: the Messiah, the first-fruits;
afterward they that are the Messiahs at His coming. 24 Then comes the
end, when He shall have delivered up the Kingdom to Elohim, even the
Father; when He shall have put down all rule, and all authority, and
power. 25 For He must reign until He has put all enemies under His
feet. 26 The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death. 27 For He has
put all things under His feet. But when He says, All things are put
under Him, it is manifest that He is excepted who did put all things
under Him. 28 And when all things shall be subdued to Him, then shall
the Son also Himself be subject to Him that put all things under Him,
that hwhy may be all in all. 1Corinthians 15:22-28
And Shaul wrote of this Great Consummation in yet anther place:
9 Having made known unto us the secret of His will, according to His good
pleasure which He has purposed in Himself: 10 that in the dispensation of
the fullness of times, He might gather together into one all things in the
Messiah, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in Him.
Ephesians 1:9-10
The above Scripturesalong with still other texts140refer to the time when this
sections opening Scripture will, at long last, find its fulfillment:

The Sovereign hwhy could have easily ordained this phrase to have a full value of
1118 (matching The Shema) and yet He did not. That it does add to 1117and that
this is just one short of 1118we believe, is our indication that this was spoken by
hwhy in prophetic anticipation of the Time which shall see all His purposes
fulfilled at the Great Consummation. This will be the Time when every knee bows
before Him, when He is One (fully unified) with all of His Creation. This will be
the Time when He is All in all and His great plan for the Ages has been totally
fulfilled.143 This will be the Time when The Shema is completely fulfilled in its
grandest form. As believers, we have the awesome opportunity to experience a
taste of this oneness even now, in this lifeand at the greatest level(s)when we
are before Him in fasting and prayer with a desire to hear His Voice and fulfill The
Shema.

Closing Thoughts
The Hebrew word shema/emS means hear. In our opening text, this word
serves as a call to hear the Eternal Word of hwhy, the Elohim of Yisrael. It is a call
to hear and obey the King of Yisrael from a heart of lovenot from a lukewarm
heart acting out of a sense of mere moral duty, and not from an even colder heart
motivated by an outward show of religious display or an arrogant self-exaltation
steered by the religious self-supremacy people so often feel due to the punishable
pride of denominational or doctrinal idolatry. If eSwhy taught us to uphold the
Eternal precepts of the Age-Abiding Torah (and He did 144), then those who
castigate such a life of loving obedience (by calling it legalism) are setting forth
their Messiah as a senseless imposter before all the world. When eSwhy taught us
to seek first the Kingdom of Elohim and His righteousness, He was directing us to
fulfill The Shema with a reverent life characterized by fasting and prayer. Of
course, we cannot fast 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, but the reverence and
humility that we cultivate during those special times of fasting will remain with us
as we emerge from our sanctuary of affliction, seeking, and waiting in His
awesome Presence.

1. The first six words of The Shema145the leading prerequisite to loving hwhy
and fulfilling the Greatest Commandment.

dxa hwhy wnyhla hwhy larvy ems

echad YHWH Elohenu YHWH Yisrael Shema
(is) one YHWH our Elohim YHWH Israel Hear

2. The phrase, With fasting I humbled my soul.

yspn Mwub ytyne

naph-shi btsome aniti

fasting

3. Davids name with title: David, son of Jesse.

ysy - Nb dwd / David, son of Jesse.

This 1118 was obtained via the Sofeet 1000 System.
4. The judgment from heaven pronounced upon the unrepentant, idolatrous
Belshazzar (Nebuchadnezzars grandson) and his kingdom of Babylon:

Nyorpw lqt anm anm

oo-phar-seen tekel mnay mnay

Numbered, numbered, weighed, and divided.

5. The phrase, My Shabbatot/Sabbaths (which is only one word in Hebrew):
Shabbatotai / ytwtbS
6. The two-word phrase appearing in Psalm 92: Nwnblb zrak / kerez bal-ba-
nohn / like a cedar in Lebanon.

Nwnblb zrak
bal-ba-nohn kerez
in Lebanon like a cedar

This 1118 was obtained via the Sofeet 1000 System.

And in some way or another, all of these things relate to the love and obedience
which fulfills The Shema. All of these things either relate to loving hwhy with the
whole heart, or to teaching us of those who did/did not.
Nothing fuels love and reverence for hwhy as do our times in fasting and prayer.
Through fasting, we petition with humility and learn to better hear the Voice of His
Spirit. Those who learn to be still in the Presence of hwhy will also know that He is
Elohim and they will hear His Voice and walk in His Light with increasing

clarity.146 Through seasons of fasting and prayer, our hearts become increasingly
aligned with the heart of hwhy. We are energized to do great things for the honor of
hwhy. And we are kept far from the fate of those who, like King Belshazzar, refuse
to hear the Voice of hwhy as they sink into the darkness of idolatry-driven apostasy
and drown in the forgetfulness that engulfs those who forsake the Most High.
And all the times which we set apart for fasting-derived meekness and humility
will fuel our love and zeal for hwhy. These special times of fasting-and-seeking
will heighten our ability to hear His Voice and to walk in His Light, even after we
emerge from a time of fasting. One of the greatest opportunities which hwhy gives
us to hear His Voice is the Seventh Day: the Shabbat is the Day on which His
Spirit causes us to restit is a day of rest and restoration.147 Those who honor the
Light of His Presence which He has placed within the Shabbat will be propelled
forward in their spiritual sojourn. For those who love His Word, the Seventh Day
is a special time to grow in the favor and in the knowledge of hwhy. Let us follow
in the footsteps of eSwhy and observe the Day our Messiah upheld.148

We have seen the great connection between fasting and fulfilling The Shema. The
carnal man rejects fasting outright, perhaps due to the unwillingness to suppress
the appetite even for relatively brief periods of time.149 One could rightly expect
this from the unconverted. But that scores of sincere believers outright reject
fasting is a concern of significant proportions. There is an ancient saying which
pertains to the beginning of a great venture, and it goes something like this:
The journey of a thousand miles
begins with the first step.
Our spiritual sojourn through this life is much like that 1000-mile foot journey.
Once one has placed his or her faith in the Messiah, if that person refuses to seek
hwhy by fasting and prayer, then the first major leg of this life-long journey can
never be what our Savior has always intended. And it might be argued that, apart
from consistent times in fasting with prayer, this journey has still not really even
begun in earnest.
To follow the Lamb wherever He goes,150 we must believe and keep His
Teachings.151 And He clearly teaches His followers the importance of fasting
through The Beatitudes.152 The believer who does not fast is much like a light

which continually flickers due to a fluctuating power sourceperhaps caused by a
nearly severed or partially shorted cord. Such light may be minimally helpful, but
it cannot dispel the darkness like the unbroken beam emanating from a lighthouse.
To be sure, fasting is not an end in itself, but it is most certainly a rather significant
and necessary beginningthe beginning expression of the deepest reverence
which cultivates a lasting, far-reaching faith, expectation, and love towards hwhy
El Shaddai. Such seeking is clearly a required beginning in the Mind of hwhy.
Thus, those who refuse to seek hwhy by fasting and prayer153 simply never get past
square one, so to speak. Their service rendered for the Kingdom of hwhy will
most likely be without reward, and their understanding of His Word and ways will
likely remain deficient, watered-down, and incomplete.154
We are commanded to teach every nation all that the Messiah taught. And since
eSwhy clearly indicated a life given to fasting and prayer would characterize His
followers after His ascent into the Heavens,155 we can advocate nothing less.
As with everything in the realm of obedience,
fasting is an act of faith, expectation, and love into
which one must grow. This takes time and dedication.
And the Spirit will lead and teach all
those who desire to obey.
But spiritual growth requires action. A mere mental ascent to the goodness of
fasting will not bring about spiritual benefit. We pray no one will make the mistake
of waiting, only to realize many years from now that you have missed out on so
many vital opportunities to serve your Creator and to enter into a greater spiritual
progression because you failed to humble yourself before Him during so many
special and blessed times of fasting and prayer.
This work has been written in judgment of no one. However, having spoken with
believers across the nation and from around the world, I have often encountered
the close-minded objections of numerous people who outright reject the truth of
fasting. Yet their objections oppose the Word of hwhy and His Messiah. Emerging
from the Dark Ages, many men have died at the stake in their mission to translate
and distribute the Scriptures. For the sake of those reformers, and certainly for the
sake of his Messiah, this author feels obligated to make sure every true doctrine,
and every upright practice, is not set aside in disuse, or ill-repute, based on
unlearned deductions which never came forth from the Mind of hwhy. Fasting
often was taught by the Messiah and practiced by all of His emissaries.156 And
reverent fastingalways accompanied by prayer and seekingis the ultimate

We believe most copyrights have been abused worldwide in religious circles as
false shepherds and other merchants feed on the sin of the people. These many
abuses have filled the worship house of hwhy with money changers who hinder
True Worship by robbing and oppressing the poor.157 Many have turned reverence
and the worship of hwhy into a means of great, personal gain.158 We assert such
things were never meant to be.159 Hence, this copyright is intended to allow for

This system is based on giving individual values to the sofeet, or ending letters. In
Hebrew, there are five letters which take on a special form when ending a word.
Thus, the name sofeet/ending letters (the Hebrew word Pwo/sofmeans
end/conclusion).

3
Here are the five letters which take on a special form when ending a word, per the
Hebrew grammar rules:
The CAPH ( k ) gives the CAPH SOFEET ( K )
The MEM ( m ) gives the MEM SOFEET ( M )
The NUN ( n ) gives the NUN SOFEET ( N )
The PE/FE ( p ) gives the FE SOFEET ( P )
The TZADE ( u ) gives the TZADE SOFEET ( U )
Of further interest (and really amazing when you think about it) is the relationship
between the Hebrew words Aleph and Eleph:
The first letter of the Aleph-Beit is Aleph: a. The name of this letter
is actually rendered using three Hebrew letters:
Pla / Aleph.
Yet these are the same letters that form the Hebrew word which
means 1000:
Pla / Eleph.
Aleph and Eleph have the same three letters, only with different
vowel points (leading to a slightly different pronunciation).
So unlike the Misparim and Place Value System, the Sofeet-1000 System forms a
full, complete cycleand one in which the end is declared from the beginning.160
(In at least one location in the prophet Ezekiel, the word Pla / Aleph is used
interchangeably with the word Pla / Eleph and both words are there translated
1000.)
