Group Project
General Guidelines
This is a group assignment. This project has three basic outcomes. First, you should acquire the skill
of relating the various management concepts learned in the course to real-life examples and vice
versa. Second, you should strengthen your analytical and communications skills and stimulate
yourself to think outside the box just like a real manager. Third, you should get accustomed with
working in teams and understanding what it is like to be a team player.
Group Structure:

Section 5: 5 groups of 5 members

You will have to select a company of your choice and apply the learned concepts to it. Your selected
company must be approved by the instructor. You will have to choose a company that has
operations here in the UAE and is accessible to be interviewed. You cannot complete this project
without visiting the company and meeting managers in the organization possibly more than once.
Online research ALONE will not be sufficient. You will have to provide evidence of meetings and
interviews in the report.
The report should cover the below concepts:

Include an introduction about the company, its industry, and its business model.
Analyze the companys organizational culture and external environment.
Discuss the companys current involvement in international business.
Discuss the companys current planning and strategizing processes.
Discuss the companys current organization structure.
Discuss the companys current control systems.
Discuss the companys leadership styles and their motivation practices in the organization.
Complete a SWOT analysis for the company and perform an analysis of Porters Five Forces.
Based on all the above discussions and analysis, come up with a business-level and a
corporate-level strategic recommendation. Each recommendation should include the
following:
o Recommendation
o Justification
o Benefits to the company
o Possible hurdles to overcome

You will be expected to submit a PROFESSIONAL report and present it to the class. Additional details

Report Guidelines (10%)

Professional report expected:

Cover page
Table of contents
Appendices (bio of interviewed contact person, interview notes, questionnaires)
References (Use APA style)
Note: Your report must be cohesive and well-thought through. Explain your thoughts
thoroughly but dont be all-over the place. I will not restrict you to a certain number of
pages to write for your written report; however, as a general guideline, your report should
be around 15 pages excluding cover pages, table of contents, appendices and references.
Use Calibri for your font; size 11; double-spacing.
Refer to the General Writing Rubric for SBA in your syllabus for further guidelines about
the evaluation criteria.

Presentation Guidelines (10%)

Each group will be given a total of 50 minutes (presentation and Q & A) to present their
analysis and recommendations. You must understand that if you go beyond the 50 minutes
assigned to you, I will have to stop you and deduct points from you.
Every member of the group must present a section in the presentation.
Every member of the group must be ready to answer any questions related to any section
of the presentation.
Formal/Smart-casual attire recommended.
Your presentation should be professionally done by:
Using PowerPoint slides
Referring to the slides and not reading from them
Ensuring eye contact with your audience
Speaking with a clear voice
Being able to convey the right message in the allotted time.
Presentation dates will be between Sunday January 3rd and Thursday January 7th, 2016. The
specific assignment of dates will be assigned at a later date.
Refer to the Oral Communication Rubric for SBA in your syllabus for further guidelines
about the evaluation criteria.

Deliverables

You must submit a soft copy and a hard copy of your report. The soft copy must be
submitted by the group leader (through SafeAssign on iLearn) by 10pm Saturday January
2nd, 2016. The hard copy written report should be submitted in the classroom by 12pm on
Sunday January 3rd, 2016. Any late submission beyond that date will result in a letter grade
reduction for the report.
Presentation slides should be emailed to me (ahamade@aus.edu) on the morning of your
presentation date.
