The idea of working on the project entitled as Design of Smart meter

and its impact on power systems evolved after surveying and
acknowledging the provision, monitoring and billing mechanisms of
local authorities dealing with Energy and Power Systems.
The project cited above will enhance the monitoring of electrical units
consumed as well as billing methods. It will facilitate the user by
allowing him to subscribe prepaid purchase of electrical units. The
proposed meter is more efficient in terms of power consumption, more
secured and more user friendly in terms of vending the smart card and
top-up the meter which are normally used. Electricity theft is an issue
which accounts for economical deficits of local authorities and is
considerable to be controlled and countered. The dishonest customers
would not be able to perform either a software based hack or
mechanical modification to the proposed meter. It will also reduce the
