(ii) There are 26 questions. Q. No 1to 5 are very short answer type questions and carry one mark
each. Q. No 11 to 22 are short answer type questions and carry three marks each Q. No. 23 is value
based question and carry four marks. Q. No 24 to 26 are long answer type questions and carry five
marks each.
(iii) There is no overall choice. However, an internal choice has been provided in one question of two
marks, one question of three marks, one question of three marks and all three questions of five
marks each. You have to attempt any one of the given choices in these questions.

1. An attractive force of 5N is acting between two charges 2C and 2C placed at some distance.
If the charges are mutually touched and again placed at same distance, what will be new force
between them?
2. A current is passed through a cylindrical conductor of gradually decreasing radius. At which point
the drift speed of the electrons will be higher?
3. Why soft iron is preferred to make core of a transformer?
4. Can a convex mirror produce real image? If so, under what condition?
5. What is the function of a transducer used in a communication system?
6. Define electric flux. A spherical rubber balloon carries a charge q that is uniformly distributed over
its surface. As the balloon is blown up and increases in size, how does the total electric flux coming
out of the surface of the balloon change? Give reason.
7. Current the allowed to flow through a metallic wire at a constant potential difference. When the
wire becomes hot, cold water is poured on half portion of it. By doing so, the other portion
becomes hotter. Explain.
8. Define the phenomenon on which working of an optical fibre is based. What are the necessary
conditions for this phenomenon to occur?

9. Figure shows variation of stopping potential V0 with the frequency v for two photosensitive

(i) Why is the slope same for both?


(ii) For which material will the emitted electrons have greater kinetic energy for the incident
radiation of the two frequency?
10. Draw a plot of potential energy of a pair of nucleons as a function of their distance. Indicate the
regions in which the force is (i) attractive and (ii) replusive. Write an important conclusion
which you can draw regarding the nature of nuclear forces.
11. Define the dipole moment of an electric dipole. How does the electric potential of an electric dipole
axis as a function of distance r of the point from the midpoint of the dipole at large distances?
Derive an expression for the same.
12. Will there be any effect on capacitance of a parallel plate capacitor if the charge on the plates of a
capacitor is increased? Giver reason. The graph in the figure shows the variation of the potential
energy U stored in a capacitor against the value of the capacitance C. Which of the two charge of
the capacitor or potential difference is kept constant for this graph? Giver reason.

13. What is the expression for capacitance of a parallel plate capacitor? What is the unit of
capacitance? A fully charged capacitor is disconnected from the battery and the plates are pulled
apart. What will happen to the potential energy of the capacitor? If there is any increase in energy,
explain the source of the additional energy.
14. Derive the expression for the magnetic field due to current carrying thick wire using Amperes
circuital law in the regions a, r < R, r = R and c. r > R; where R is the radius of cross section of the
wire.

Derive the expression of magnetization and intensity of magnetizing field. What are their units?

19. State the law of radioactive decay. Establish a relation between half-life period and disintegration
constant.
20. An electromagnetic wave of wavelength is incident on a photosensitive material of negligible
work function. If the photoelectrons emitted from this surface have the de Broglie wavelength 1

21. What is the range of the frequencies of waves which are used for line of sight communication? A
transmitting antenna at the top of a tower of has a height of 20m and the height of receiving
antenna is 45cm. Calculate the maximum distance between them for satisfactory communication
in line of sight mode.
22. In half wave rectification, what is the total output frequency it the input frequency is 50Hz. What
is the output frequency of a full-wave rectifier for the same input frequency? Draw labelled
diagrams for half and full wave rectifiers.
23. Suhasinis uncle was advised by his doctor to have an MRI scan of his chest. Her uncle did not
know much about the details and significance of the test. He also felt it was too expensive and
thought of postponing it.
When Suhasini learnt about her uncles problems, she immediately decided to do something about
it. She took the help of her friends, family and neighbors and arranged the cost of the test. She also
told her uncle that an MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) scan of his chest would enable the
doctors to know the condition of his heart and lungs without causing any harm to him.
Her uncle was convinced and had the required MRI scan.
(a) What according do you, are the values displayed by Suhasini?

(b) Assuming the MRI scan of her uncles chest was done by using magnetic field of 1T, find the
maximum and minimum value of forces that this magnetic field could exert on a proton that was
moving with a sped of 104 ms 1 . State the condition under which this force has its minimum value.
24. An alternating voltage v = vm sin wt is applied to a series LCR circuit. Draw a plot showing the
variation of current with angular frequency for two different values of resistance R1 and
R2 ( R1 > R2 ) . Write the condition under which the phenomenon of resonance. For which value of
the resistance out of the two curves, a sharper resonance is produced? Define Q factor of the circuit
and give its significance.
OR
(a) State Faradays laws of EMI.
(b) A jet plane is travelling towards west at a speed of 1800 km/h. What is the voltage difference
developed between the ends of the wing having a span of 25m, if the magnitude of 5 104 T and
the dip angle is 300 ?
(c) A closed coil of copper whose area is 1m 1m is free to rotate about an axis. The coil is placed
perpendicular to a magnetic field of 0.10T. What is the charge flown through the coil when the coil
is rotated through 180o in 0.01 s? (The resistance of the coil is 10 )
25. With proper ray diagram, derive the expression for the magnification of a compound microscope
for image at the least distance of distinct vision. What is the tube length of the microscope are in
this case? Why the object must be kept beyond the focus of the objective?
Establishing the relationship between the angle of incidence, angle of emergence, angle of prism
and angle of deviation for ray passing through a prism with proper diagram. Also derive the
expression for refractive index of the material of the prism in terms of the angle of minimum
deviation. Can you ever have a situation in which a ray goes undeviated through a prism? Give
reason.
26. With proper circuit diagram, explain how a transistor acts as an amplifier. The input resistance in
common emitter amplifier circuit of a given transistor has a value of 1.5k . The output of the
circuit is obtained across a collector resistance of 7.5k . What would be the output voltage
corresponding to an input voltage is 5mV, if the current amplification factor of the transistor is 60.
OR
Draw the circuit diagram for n-p-n transistor in common emitter configuration. With the help of
typical input-output characteristics, write the expression for a. input resistance, b. output
resistance and c. current amplification factor. Identify the equivalent logic gate of the following
combination. Find out the output when a. A=0; B=1 and b. A=0; B=0
