Construction
Plate Material

The Gasketed Plate Heat Exchanger consists of a calculated number of corrugated metal plates
with openings at the corners to direct two fluids between which heat transfer takes place. The
plates are fitted with gaskets which seal the channel and direct the fluids into alternate channels.
The number and size of the plates are determined by the flow rate, physical properties of the
fluids, allowable pressure drop and temperature programs. The plate corrugation promotes fluid
turbulence and supports the plate against differential pressure. The plate pack is assembled
between a fixed head and a mobile head and compressed by tightening bolts. The heat transfer
plates and the mobile head are suspended from a top guide bar and aligned by a bottom guide
bar, both of which are fixed to the End Post.

Key Features of Thermaline GPHE

No fluid Cross Contamination

due to gasket failure: Gaskets
are designed with vent holes
between port and boundary
gasket. This ensures that in case of
a leak occurring due to gasket
failure, the fluids will not cross
contaminate but instead will leak to
atmosphere giving the operator an
indication that gaskets have failed.

Double Wall Plates: (Available on

request) Thermalines double-wall plate
technology provides the added security of
an additional safety barrier. If a pinhole or
crack develops in a plate, the fluid is forced
to leak into the atmosphere rather than
into the other fluid stream.
Eliminates product and media intermixing
Leaks are vented externally, allowing
the operator to quickly identify a problem
Laser-welded port area

Software Solution: Fully

engineered web based
software is available for the
specific applications of
OEMs and Private labels.
Saving and retrieving
quotes online helps OEMs
and Private labels give
timely customer service.

Product Range: Thermaline plate heat exchangers have a wide

range from 0.23 ft to 19.81 ft per plate with nozzle sizes from
to 12/14. Our plate packs have varied chevron angles to
allow the maximum turbulence and velocity for a given pressure
drop. Our range of sizes and plate patterns permit the precise
optimization of the heat exchanger to meet your process
requirements.

ASME Code Compliance: Thermaline industrial plate heat

exchangers are designed, built and tested in accordance with the
requirements of the ASME Code Section VIII Div 1.

Benefits of Using Gasketed PHE

Low Capital investment: Thanks to the

high heat transfer coefficients, the required
plate surface area can be quite small.
Reducing the amount of materials used makes
for significant savings.

Small Footprint: With its compact design,

the plate heat exchanger has a smaller
footprint than any other comparable solutions.

Low installation cost: Parallel and

counter-current flow connections make
installation easy, reducing costs for pipes and
valves.

Easy Expansion: Versatile bolted constructions makes future expansion easy, simply by
adding further plates to increase heat transfer
capacity.

Minimum downtime: High-quality materials

and careful gasket and heat-transfer plate
design provide effective protection from fouling,
thus minimizing downtime.

Complete restoration of heat transfer:

The heat-transfer area can be readily inspected
by disassembling the plates. With suitable
maintenance, 100% of performance can be
recovered at low cost.

Low energy consumption: Close-approach

temperatures make it possible to reduce the
flow rates neeeded for heating and cooling,
which makes for lower pumping costs..

Readily recyclable materials: Materials

used in construction are pure and thus easily
recycled with the environmental benefits this
ensures.

Low maintenance cost: Glue-free clip-on

gaskets ensure fast, easy maintenance, with
significant savings in labor costs.

Real World Testing Facilities

Application of our products to our
customer's specific needs often requires
practical testing using real world
parameters. Our experienced staff of
application engineers and their extensive
testing facilities stand ready to help. Test
process concepts by means of a thorough
theoretical study, using computer analysis
and in-depth knowledge of process
technologies.

CCT Testing: CCT is a patented tester that operates on the basic hydro-pneumatic
principle. Pressurized air is introduced on one side of the PHE. If there is internal
defect/crack in the plate, CCT which is connected on the ambient side not only
detects it but also calculates the size of the crack.

Free Flow Welded Heat Exchangers

Free flow welded plate heat exchangers (WPHE) combine the efficiency of plate heat exchangers
with the robustness and flexibility of shell and tube construction. Depending on process requirements and the nature of the fluids, the free flow gap can be varied from 3mm to 30mm, making it the
best available WPHE in the world for low- to high-fouling liquids. Easy access doors make it possible
to clean the process side by hydroblasting even without dismantling the connection pipe lines.
Flexible length, width and number of heat transfer plates make this a truly custom-built solution.
Large openings and connection possibilities make it ideal for condensing duties where the allowable
pressure drop is low. The following industries typically use this type of free flow exchanger:

Oil & Gas / Petrochemical

Pulp & Paper
Chemical
Metal & Mining
