One day a grasshopper hopped along a

road and saw an ant. The ant was carrying a
big ear of corn.
Hey, stop and talk to me, Grasshopper
said.
I am getting food for the winter, Ant
said. You should too.
It is summer. I have food, said
Grasshopper.

5. A) Note to Teacher: See note at the top of the first page.

What did ant and his friends have in the winter that grasshopper did not have?
Suggested answer: Answers should include food or corn.
B) Draw a picture of ant and grasshopper in the winter.
Suggested answer: Drawings may vary but should depict ant by lots of corn and
grasshopper with no food. The picture should also clearly show that it is winter (perhaps
there is snow on the ground or there are no leaves on the trees). Advanced pictures
might include facial expressions showing that grasshopper is hungry and unhappy, while
ant has plenty to eat and is happy.
