Quantitative determination of the protein concentration is one of the most common tests in
biochemistry laboratories. Originally measurement was evaluated by estimating the total amount
of protein nitrogen and considering that this element represents about 16% of the protein weight.
These methods were very extensive so that today it has calorimetric and colorimetric methods
which enabled overcome these drawbacks. UV-visible spectrophotometry is an analytical
technique for determining the concentration of a compound in solution. It is based on the
molecules absorb electromagnetic radiation and in turn the amount of light absorbed depends
linearly on the concentration. In this laboratory determining the concentration of proteins present
in a solution by the method of Lawry using the spectrophotometer is performed.
