This amour grants the unit with Heavy Armour.
Greaves
A unit wearing Greaves can only be hit on 6s regardless of any other modifiers.
Small Shield
A unit carrying a Small Shield reduces enemy melee skill by +1.
Seax (Dagger)
A unit carrying this side weapon is granted with the Hidden Weapon rule.
Sweord (Sword)
The Sweord is the base weapon for units and thus, does not confer any bonus in melee.
Gar (Spear)
A spear has a -1 melee skill modifier against cavalry units, and denies a charge bonus from
both infantry and cavalry units from the front arc only.
Also, a Saxon unit wielding spears can use it as ranged weapon instead. Range of the Gar is
6 and reduces the enemies Defence bonus by +1; once thrown, the Saxon unit can no
longer use a spear and so automatically revert to using their Saxon/Late Saxon Sword
instead.
Spear Masters
Every Saxon unit only require one hand to wield a spear, leaving their other hand free to
wield a shield.
Battle Axe
When an enemy unit charges a unit wielding this weapon, they receive no charging bonus.
Also, enemy units never receive a defence modifier from their shields when hit by this
weapon.
A unit wielding a Battle-Axe cannot carry a shield or any other type of weapon.

A Chief follows the same rules as a Leader from the Empires ruleset with the following
exceptions: A Chief does not have bodyguards and can only be placed in Gedriht units. The
Chief stays in the front rank and dies last and therefore cannot be targeted individually by
the enemy.
