Assignment 6

Ans 1.
I would rather make a scientific discovery. This would be more satisfying
to me because I believe that my scientific discovery could be used later
on in life in order to create a useful technology. I see science as the base
for the beginning of technologies. I would also want to have a scientific
discovery because they help people to better understand things. By
discovering why something happens, it allows for people to not always
wonder how things occur.
Also, technologies keep updating and getting better and eventually I will
be forgotten with time. But this is not true with scientific discoveries,
and even if they are proven incorrect sometime in the future, I will
always be remembered.

Ans 2.
I believe that these courses shouldnt be replaced.
Courses like maths and science help engineers in understanding the
fundamentals of their field. This knowledge is always useful in the long
run and helps in the development of better technology by using new
concepts of science coupled with maths.
Maths is used by engineers to solve very basic to very complex problems.
It is the language in which science is expressed and without the basic

understanding of science, we cannot fully comprehend the mathematical

formulae used to solve engineering problems.

Ans 3.
They have been closely associated because of how both of these things
must gather information. Both of these rely on a natural thought process
as well. They both involve experimenting and trial and error processes.
Finally, science and technology are both two things that evolve on
something that had occurred in the past and all past discoveries. When a
vacuum was made, eventually a silent vacuum was made. When a medicine
was found out to help one problem, it was tested and changed a little to
help another problem or sickness.
Also, science and technology are intertwined and used to help create
what we imagine. Science gains from this association by taking an idea
and allowing it to develop even further. Technology gains from this
association because it evolves and becomes more efficient i.e. (black and
white TVs to HD TVs).
A very good example of their interdependence will be computers. Science
played a major role in creating the computers and now the computers are
playing an important role in the advancement of science with their fast
computing.
Ans 4.
The projects which are related to science are well funded because they
can be used to create a product which can be sold in the market. So the
person who funds the project gets a lot of money by selling the product
which is made by the idea formed by conducting research.
But in case of humanity and social sciences, the projects are not well
funded because they can not be used for creating any product which can

be sold in the market, so the investor doesn't get any money by investing
in these projects.
Hence the social sciences and humanities scientists consider themselves
lucky if they get fund for their projects. This does not represent a
proper distribution of fund for research. Because there should not be
any conditions on the scientists, they should not be forced to give results
in a given time period and they should not be asked for a type of
research which can be used for creating products for market.
India's government is using a very small part of its budget for investing
in research area and I think they should increase the funds allocated to
research, so that restrictions are taken off the scientists.
