I want to challenge you this month about

the time you spend with God. It's sad but
true that when we're faced with a busy
day our time with God is often the first
things we cancel. Some people spend
more time on Facebook rather than do
'facedown' before God. Im always
surprised how when we are facing
challenges the first thing to get cut is God
and church.
Allow yourself to be challenged by
these wise words. 'If you have so much
business to attend to that you have no
time to pray, you have more business on
hand than God ever intended you should
have' (DL Moody).
'The management of time is the
management of self; therefore, if you
manage time with God, He will begin to
manage you' (Jill Briscoe). 'The Word of
God is demanding. It demands a stretch of
time in our day; it demands that we put

Him first and that He has priority in our

lives. God will not put up with being
fobbed off with prayers in telegram style
and cut short like a troublesome visitor
who we open the door just a crack to get
rid of him as quickly as possible'. 'We must
simplify our approach to Him. We must
strip down to essentials and recognise
that without Him we can do nothing in our
own small strength. The V2V Insider is
designed to challenge you and strengthen
your Christian walk with God so as you
read through this months issue our prayer
is that your faith will be strengthen and
your walk with God become more solid
and sure.
Blessings,

Pastor Erica Goodman

Forgive

WHY MUST I

Pastor Douglas Goodman

here are so many saints that have been taken

out of their destiny by unforgiveness. Here
is a reality of life for all of us Christians and
non-Christians alike; each one of us will at various
times in our lives have an opportunity to be hurt,
offended or betrayed. How we respond to injustice
will determine our outcome.
How serious is it then for Christians to hold
unforgiveness in their hearts? Well I am going to
share with you some very serious scriptures about
forgiveness and unforgiveness.
Some people have the idea that before they can
forgive the person that offended them that person
should first say sorry or show some type of
repentance.
Well lets look and see what the Word of God
says concerning this subject. First lets look at our
Saviour Himself in Luke 23:34 Jesus said, Father,
forgive them, for they do not know what they do.
Having done no wrong to anyone, He lived a perfect

One of Satans
greatest weapons that
he uses against the
body of Christ is
unforgiveness

and upright life. He was spat on, slapped, His beard

pulled, beaten and then nailed to a cross while
people laughed and mocked Him. In the midst of all
this with no one crying out Jesus we are sorry forgive
us. Not one person said that yet our Lord looked
down at the people laughing and mocking and spoke
to the Father on their behalf. Those amazing words
came from His lips Father forgive them for they
know not what they do. Wow, and some people
are still struggling to forgive others for a much lesser
crime. Some people struggle to forgive others for
just looking at them wrong. You may be saying to
yourself well that was Jesus.
Lets look at Acts 7:59-60 And they stoned
Stephen as he was calling on God and saying, "Lord
Jesus, receive my spirit. Then he knelt down and
cried out with a loud voice, "Lord, do not charge
them with this sin." And when he had said this, he
fell asleep. Here we have a man that served tables,
a regular Christian and his name was Stephen. After

V2V INSIDER VICTORY TO VICTORY CHURCH OAKINGTON MANOR DRIVE HA9 6NF

preaching a very convicting sermon, that angered

the people they took him and began to stone him, in
the midst of the stoning Stephen does the most
incredible and profound thing; he kneels down and
prays the most amazing prayer. He speaks to the
Father on their behalf and asks the Father not to lay
this sin to their charge; this is while the rocks are
being thrown at him.
In Mark 11:25,26 Jesus says And when you stand
praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive
so that your Father in Heaven may forgive you your
trespasses. 26 But if you do not forgive, neither will
your Father in Heaven forgive your trespasses. Do
you realise how serious this scripture is? In laymans
terms Jesus is saying if you do not forgive you cannot
be forgiven! Every time you do wrong whether in
thought, word or deed your sin remains with you
because you wont forgive and release others Jesus
cant release or forgive you.
Most people mix emotions with forgiveness and
that is where many struggle to forgive, you see you
do not forgive from your emotions but rather you
forgive from your free will in obedience to the Word
of God. In other words I choose to forgive not from
my emotions but from my free will and because the
Word of God tells me to. Does that mean when I
forgive someone that they are back in my life, do
they now come to my house for dinner? No! When
we forgive it means that we have nothing in our
hearts towards that person so when we hear their
name we do not get angry or resentful at the same
time when we forgive we set boundaries. There are
many people that I have forgiven but they will never
gain access to my life, why? The simple reason is
that just because you have forgiven them does not
mean they have changed and more than likely they
will hurt you again if given the opportunity.
In Matthew 18:21,22 the disciples began asking
Jesus about forgiveness and this is what He said;
Then Peter came to Him and said, Lord, how often
shall my brother sin against me and I forgive him?
Until seven times? 22 Jesus said to him, I do not say
to you, until seven times; but, until seventy times
seven. They thought that to forgive seven times a

day would be the amount of times our brethren

could do us wrong and we forgive but Jesus said not
seven times a day but seventy times seven a day for
those wondering how many times that is, it is four
hundred and ninety times Luke 17:4,5 goes on to
say; And if he trespasses against you seven times in
a day, and seven times in a day turns again to you,
saying, I repent, you shall forgive him. And the
apostles said to the Lord, Give us more faith. You are
probably responding like the disciples Lord, give us
more faith. They knew that it was not going to be
easy so they asked for more faith.
Jesus goes on to tell the story of a man that
owed ten thousand talents that he could not repay
(Matthew 18:21-35) just like us when we came to
Christ with our sins that we could not pay for (the
wages of sin) this man pleaded for mercy and was
forgiven just like us when we repented of our sins
and asked God to forgive us which He did because of
His infinite mercy towards us. As soon as this man
had been forgiven he met a fellow man that owed
him one thousand pence, a smaller debt than his,
he did not extend the mercy or grace that had been
shown him but he refused to forgive him and had
him thrown into prison.
As Christians we have been forgiven a huge debt
by our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ therefore we
should not struggle to forgive one another. Before
you dismiss this article and say that I dont know
what youve been through read Matthew 18:21-35
again. Jesus makes it very plain when He said the
person that does not forgive will be turned over to
the tormentors. It is a wicked person who chooses
not to forgive others regardless of the wrong. Jesus
tells us that person will be delivered to the
tormentors until they are able to pay the debt, which
will be never that means eternity in torment.
Make a choice today to obey the word of God
not from your emotions but because Jesus told us
to. Make a choice today to forgive; I know that it
may still hurt or anger you but the truth is your
salvation is at risk, its bad enough that they hurt you
but they are not worth going to hell for as well.

SOAKING
IN THE
WORD OF GOD
"Whatever is in your heart determines what you say."
Matthew 12:34

ave you ever tried cleaning a car using a

sponge and a bucket of dirty water? No
maer how clean and nice the sponge is
to start o with, as soon as it is soaked in that
bucket of dirty water, all you'll get out of it is gunky
water. No maer how much you squeeze it out, it
won't get clean again unl you put it in some nice
clean soapy water. Use that sort of water, and you'll
get the car sparkling in no me. The sponge is only
ever going to be as eecve as what it soaks up.
What's that got to do with the heart you may ask?
Think about it. You're the sponge, and if you soak
up dirty stu, you're going to give out dirty stu.
Proverbs 13:20 tells us if we hang around with the

wrong people well be destroyed and there is

power in associaon. How can you hope to clean
up your life if you're not immersing yourself in
something that is clean, sparkly and great? The only
way to make sure you're saying the right stu,
acng the right way and living the way God wants,
is to soak yourself in Him, right to your core, your
heart. Spend me reading the Bible. Make it a
priority to pray. Fill yourself with God's goodness,
and it'll spill over into your relaonships, your life,
just about everything. Make a decision today that
you're going to soak up on good things and ll your
heart with God, so that everything that comes out
of your mouth is good and godly.

The Single Girls Blog

The Perfect Date
This article is directed to all my gorgeous,
single Christian gals this month! Ladies what is
your dream date scenario? Whilst you think
about that I have created my own scenario for
you.
It is 7am; Kerry awakes to the sound of her
doorbell. Slightly dazed she wonders who on
earth that could be at this hour. She makes her
way down the stairs and opens her front door.
Kerry is greeted by a very cheery older lady that
asks Are you Kerry Jones? Yes I am Kerry
answers still wondering why this woman is on
her doorstep at this time of the morning. The
woman draws back Kerrys attention by placing a
bouquet of a dozen red grand prix roses in her
hand. She waves Kerry goodbye whilst shouting
over her shoulder Youre a very lucky girl! Kerry
can no longer contain the smile that has now
spread across her face, reaching from ear to ear.
Like a child opening a Christmas present, she
opens up the card that reads Good morning
beautiful, wanted to start your day with a smile.
The same surge of emotion that just ran
through you when you saw those roses are
what I feel every time I look at you. Thank you
for making me the happiest man alive. Dont
worry about work today I have booked the day
off for you, you have a spa booked for 12 today,
your taxi will be there to pick you up at 11!
Andrew xx
With a sigh Kerry collapses into her sofa
letting out a little squeal before she spins round
the room and dances her way into the kitchen to

place her beautiful flowers in a vase. She dials

Andrews number, it goes to voicemail, she
leaves a message. She then rushes upstairs to get
ready. At 11am exactly she hears a hoot outside
letting her know her taxi is downstairs. She
bounds down the stairs, to the waiting taxi. After
two hours of treatment and relaxation Kerry
decides she is ready to join the real world. She
tries Andrew again, still no answer. She arrives
home, drops her keys on the kitchen table where
her eyes are drawn to a beautiful black box tied
with a red ribbon. Quickly Kerry sits down to read
the card; inside it reads Hope you are rested
and relaxed, the day is not over, be ready at
5:30pm. Kerry smiles as she pulls the ribbon off
the box. Inside is the most beautiful dress she has
ever seen, along with the pair of shoes she was
just drooling over the week before. Kerry checks
her watch Its 3pm. She goes upstairs and sets
her hair and waits for 5:30 to arrive.
At 5:30 exactly Kerrys doorbell rings. Kerry
opens the door to see a man dressed in a suit.
Your car awaits maam As he gestures for her to
follow him. By this time excitement and
anticipation is surging through Kerry. They drive
for about an hour. She is driven onto a private
airstrip where she sees a small plane and a red
carpet leading up to it. The driver stops at the
foot of the red carpet and opens the door for
Kerry, reaching his hand in to help her out. Kerry
pauses for a minute trying to catch her breath,
tears begin to sting the back of her eyes. She feels
like she is in a scene from pretty woman. She

V2V INSIDER VICTORY TO VICTORY CHURCH OAKINGTON MANOR DRIVE HA9 6NF

boards the plane to find a group of staff waiting

to attend to her every need. After an hour and
half the captain announces they are landing. As
the plane door opens Kerry sees another red
carpet laid out with a smartly dressed man
waiting by a car. Kerry makes her way down the
carpet, breathing in the clean, warm air. Where
am I? She thinks to herself. The car begins its
journey to its destination. Kerry opens the
window and leans out, allowing the warm
breeze to hit her face, whilst taking in the
stunning scenery. This must be Tuscany Kerry
thinks to herself as they pass dozens of beautiful
vineyards and rustic buildings. Before she knows
it, the car comes to a stop and out of the window
she can see the most handsome man she has
ever seen, dressed in a smart black suit. Kerry
doesnt even wait for the driver to open the door
for her. She jumps out of the car and runs to
Andrew who is standing next to a candlelit table
for two in the middle of the vineyard. Kerry hugs
Andrew and thanks him over and over again. He
smiles and gestures for her to take a seat. They
are served the most divine three-course meal.
Kerry looks up at the beautiful scenery; she
closes her eyes to take it all in. When she opens
them she sees Andrew on one knee next to her
with an open box. Kerry will you make me the
happiest man alive and be my wife With tears
rolling down her cheeks she sobs a yes!! On the
way back to the plane, Kerry squeezes Andrews
hand and whispers under her breath thank you
God, I feel like the most blessed girl
Okay ladies come back to reality! Alright so
I got a bit carried away with the story above, a
girl and an imagination is a serious thing! The
reality is most of us will never get flown on a
plane to a vineyard in Italy but I wanted to
stretch your imagination beyond the norm not
just so that you can ooohh and arrgggghhh but
so I can draw you into an ultimate wooing

experience. The reality is that we girls love a

good story and whether we realise it or not we
are built to be captivated. The purpose of the
story above was not just to send you into lala
land but to allow you to experience the feeling of
what it is to be wooed. The bible says, His
thoughts are far above our thoughts this was
just MY imagination; imagine what the
imagination and thoughts of the creator will be
like! I am not talking about material things now
I am talking of that joy and peace that lives in
you daily, watching God do the smallest little
details for you that collectively blow your mind.
The reality is before any man is able to capture
our heart; Jesus should have wooed us, courted
us and caused us to fall head over heels in love
with Him. It is hard to woo someone or capture
their heart from a distance, at some point they
have to move close enough, or open their heart
to be captured. I truly believe that Jesus Christ
is waiting to woo your heart and show you
things that you never imagined possible. The
same feeling you felt whilst reading Kerrys story
is the same feeling you can feel with Jesus every
day. My assignment to all the single gals out
there is to create a date night with Jesus. Set a
night aside every week, light candles, create the
right atmosphere, make sure your phone is off
and you have shut all distractions out and begin
to worship Him, invite him to come. Allow him to
sweep into your room in a way that only He can
and captivate your entire being. Trust me girls it
is the best feeling in the world. Some of us can
spend so much time looking for Mr Right that
we can miss the most amazing man ever, Jesus
Christ. Give the king of kings the permission to
woo you; I think you will find that once you fall
in love with Jesus your feet will never touch the
ground again.
Ciao till next month

God

Is
An
Optional Extra?
Erica Goodman

The question that Im asking is how important is God in your life? What
level of importance does God play in the decisions you make on a daily
basis? Decisions such as where we live, who we marry, where to go to
church, the decision to stay home when we are going through challenges
and so on. All of these things and so much more shows how important
and relevant God is in our lives.

hen was the last time you stopped to

run your decisions by God and Im not
referring to what we usually do which is
to INFORM God but rather run it by Him as though
we were asking permission if it was ok or not? Is
this your will for me God or not? Can I date this
man/woman or not? Proverbs 3:5-6 says; Trust in
the LORD with all your heart, and lean not to your
own understanding. IN ALL YOUR WAYS
acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.
Some people turn to God when their back is against
the wall and they are between a rock and a hard
place but as soon as He delivers them they put Him
back in His box and tell Him maybe not in these
exact words that weve got it now and go on to
take back the reigns until they are stuck again.
Moving house, church or location of any kind
without first consulting God is a huge mistake
because human beings are fallible and we cant rely
solely on ourselves to make such life altering
decisions on our own.

Im not referring to the non-churched here I am

referring to bible believing, praying, church
attending Christians. It is crazy when we dont invite
God into the decision making process. We need to
make it a priority to first involve Him. What we
usually do is acknowledge Him in the end results,
after we have decided we want to do. We then go
our way convincing ourselves that we allowed God
to lead us when in fact all we really did was
informed Him of our plans, worse still some dont
even do that. Yet on the other hand we will check
out the best schools in an area and happily choose
an area to live based on how good the schools are,
we will move to a location that is easy for us to
commute to work and has easiness of access to
local trains and buses. We will do our research for
all such things but we often times treat God as
though He is optional.
You may say well I never looked at it like that
before? The question is still the same because the
level of Importance that God has in your life would

V2V INSIDER VICTORY TO VICTORY CHURCH OAKINGTON MANOR DRIVE HA9 6NF

show in the time you take to make sure that He

remains number one.
Exodus 34:14 says: For thou shalt worship no
other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is
a jealous God:
It always amazes me how people can make a
decision to leave church, move church or stop
going to church altogether when they are upset or
offended yet would not dream of not going in for
work. In fact its not even a consideration to miss
going to work, we gladly go regardless of how we
feel or whats happening in our life. What a
difference it would make if we all decided that
regardless of how Im feeling or what Im going
through I will go to church, I will continue in the
faith, I will not let go of God!
Church seems to be the least important
because its the first to get cut. God seems to be
the least important because fellowshipping with
Him is the first thing that gets cut when we are not
happy or we are too busy. We dont cut off TV, food
or the things we like doing.
John Stott said: 'Our greatest claim to nobility
is our ability to know God, to be in personal
relationship with Him, to love Him and to worship
Him. We are most human when we are on our
knees before our creator.'
Part of our problem is that we want to be the
owners of our lives; we want to be the ones in
charge. We don't want to be anyone's servant.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 says, do you not know
that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit in
you, whom you have of God? And you are not your
own, for you are bought with a price. Therefore
glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which
are God's.
Part of our problem is understanding the
difference between stewardship and ownership.
Stewardship is when something belongs to another
and we are taking care of it for the rightful owner.
Every decision in stewardship comes from the
owner not the steward. The scripture tells us that
we are not our own we are stewards over our
lives because we are owned by the Lord Jesus

Christ who purchased us with His blood. We dont

get to make decisions that the owner has not
sanctioned.
It is interesting that Jesus would link
stewardship with anxiety and trust (Matthew 6:2434). We don't often think of the Sermon on the
Mount as a connected narrative, but there is logic
behind the arrangement of its various concepts.
We are anxious about our issues when we focus on
ourselves, especially our inability to control the
unknown variants in life for our benefit. Should we
assume the role of a steward in service to a master,
concerns over control begin to dissipate. There is
no longer anything of ours to protect. Life with all
its trappings belongs to another. While we are in
charge of managing another's interests, ultimate
control over those interests is not our own.
Regardless of what society says, it is not my
responsibility to meet my own needs Philippians
4:19) that is not my responsibility unless I am my
own master. As servant and steward of God, it
becomes God's responsibility to meet my needs
and to take care of me.
We need to fully understand the concept of
stewardship over ownership, only then will we be
able to treat God as the master of our souls, our
lives, our families and everything we own instead of
an optional extra.
So the next time you have some decisions to
make consult with the Master first and if He says
its ok then you can proceed but if He says no then
leave it alone because daddy God knows best. Give
God the place of priority and importance that He
deserves and if theres anything to be cut let it
not be God.

time. Sabrinas at home all day with Chloe, so when
I come home from work Im tired so Its a pull on
my time. I could easily go to Tesco on my way home
from work but instead Ill call Sabrina and ask her if
she wants to go together and then thats a whole
shebang because she has to get Chloe ready and
then its like a day out to Tesco! But its getting
better as Sabrinas starting to use the sling so is able
to take Chloe for walks.
Insider: How are you fitting prayer and spending
time with God in with a newborn?
Timi: I think we both have to really challenge each
other because it began to deteriorate. But its
started to pick up.
Sabrina: Just recently though, I have to practise
being faithful with getting up and acknowledging
God before I tend to her otherwise the day just
runs away and before you know it, its evening. So
this week Ive begun to get up early and pray and
worship again.
Insider: Do you have plans for more children?
Timi: Theres a certain type of school that I want to
send our children to so obviously the more children
you have the more expensive it is.
Insider: You both got married quite young, What
advice would you give to new parents?
Sabrina: We actually went through two years of
pre-marital counselling at church. So when things
come up you remember what you heard. I
remember Pastor Erica saying No Excuses So
now if anything arises and I try to make excuses I
get convicted!
Timi: I think if you listen to all the good Council

there wont be a problem! Yes we got married early

and had children early but I think its worked out for
the best for us. I think if we had waited we would
have got a lot more selfish. Im happy with the way
things have worked out. I think its exciting its such
a joy to have that time together and to have a
family.
Insider: What advice would you give to couple
sbefore they embark on the journey of
starting a family?
Sabrina: I would say have your prayer and worship
life in the right place because if I wasnt like that
before having her theres no way now that I would
have wanted to get back to that place. I can see
where I have slacked since Ive had her and can
now work towards getting back to that place. I
would say have your prayer and bible reading in
place before you have children.
Timi: I think its about about having a good
network of family and friends
around you that you can rely
on. The family and friends
that we have are amazing.
We were able to go out
recently for our
wedding anniversary
thanks to Sabrinas
parents and we thought
we dont do this
enough. So I spoke to her
mum about making
it a regular thing
because we
need to invest
back into
ourselves as a
couple.

Looking for a short break to

recharge your batteries?
Dont want to pay an arm and a leg?
Not enthused by low cost airlines
with hidden charges?
If you find yourself answering Yes to any of the
above, its time for you to experience
St. Ives in Cornwall.

n the south westerly tip of the UK lies the

small, quaint town of St. Ives. Boasting
miles of golden beaches and crystal blue
seas, St. Ives is the perfect mix of sun, sea and
sand UK style!
Travel time by train from London Paddington
takes approximately 6 hours, but dont despair
the end of your journey is rewarded by a scenic
ride on the St. Ives branch line which gives you
privileged views of the beautiful coastline; what
a welcome!
The summer months in St. Ives are an ideal
time to visit in order to make the most of all it has
to offer. (Late June was an ideal time to visit, as it
wasnt overrun with tourists.)
There are 4 main beaches to enjoy with no
pebbles in sight! Award- winning Porthmeor is a
surfers haven, whilst Porthminster boasts calm
seas; ideal for families. Porthgwidden and the
Harbour are the smallest of all the beaches, with
the latter sharing its shores with local fisherman

the way in which each shop feels like

an extension of a Cornish home,
offering one off, quirky pieces of
fashion, homemade produce, or locally
commissioned pieces of art, which
testify to St. Ives heritage as a creative
hub for artists.
The luxury of St. Ives as a small
town allows visitors to explore its
streets pretty easily. Local bus and train
services also provide great transport
links to other coastal areas such as the
beach resort of Carbis Bay, as well as to
tourist sites such as the man-made
nature reserve The Eden Project in St.
Austell and the Tate St. Ives Gallery.
Mealtimes in St. Ives do not
disappoint.
There
are
many
restaurants, cafes and eateries to
choose from, offering simple,
unpretentious dishes, which maximise

the local produce arriving on its shores. (We can

personally recommend the Beach restaurants fish trio

pan-fried cod, with a serving of mustard mash, followed
by a mouth-watering crumble of the day it was so good
we visited a second time!

However, remember to make room on your trip to
sample the delights of a typical Cornish cream tea of
scones, clotted cream & jam, the trademark Cornish
pasty or a piece of the traditional saffron cake - it would
be a mistake not to!
Many restaurants such as the Porthminster Caf &
Restaurant www.porthminstercafe.co.uk offers diners
breathtaking views of the sea and of the local harbour,
whilst the waves and sounds of wandering seagulls
provide a soothing soundtrack to your meal.
The delights of the sea can be further experienced
by a trip to the local Seal Island, which have been
welcoming visitors since the 1930s. Get your camera
poised and ready as grey Atlantic seals swim up to your
boat as they eagerly await the skippers treat of a piece

UNIVERSITY LIFE
For many people, University is the next step in the journey of
their success. For others It is just an experience under the belt,
some a means of getting low interest rate loans and for others a
place where they go because their parents say so. Well out of all
of the many reasons, there are probably 100 more. I write this
just having finished a three year stint at Brunel University in West
London.
University, University, University, what a wonderful place right?
We will see.
Francesca Danmole

decided to go to Brunel based on one question

- how long would it take me to get to
Church? Is this important, err Yes! I didnt want
to have to pay 50 every Sunday, Wednesday
and any other day I had to be there; or have a twohour journey to get to church, so I chose Brunel (or
God chose it for me I just went along). Church is an
important factor in you surviving and sustaining
your walk whilst in University and for the rest of
your life. Dont try and live in the outback when
you know you cant stand. Are you trying to get
taken out? God should be the common
denominator in all the decisions that you make! Kill
off all options and make God your priority! DO NOT
CUT OFF YOUR LIFE SOURCE...if you do, what life
will you be living?
Before you get to University, either as a Fresher
or as a Returner, you need to have a plan on what
you are going to do to live your life for God totally
every day. My friend at University often said to me
We are in this University but not of this
University. That statement rings so true. After
living there for three years I can boldly proclaim

that University is the World concentrated - literally!

Before I got to University I said to God, I would
rather be a loner and close to You rather than
become a friend of the World and far from You! I
actively looked for the Christians when I got to
University (I met some dodgy ones but, know God
and He will show you them, seriously). I wanted
my testimony to be God so I came, was faithful and
I remained. Not, God I came. I left you and three
years down the line I am crying at some alter
because I realise how far I have gone. You say you
are a believer, but will you be believed? What will
your story be?
You have to know who you are. People can
literally have a new identity when they get to
University. I have seen it time and time
again. Ladies, you are beautiful! YES you know that,
so when a guy tells you that (and they will) say
thank you and keep it moving. I will tell you for
free, the girls that are set apart are the ones
labelled as credible and serious. Be epistles to be
read by all men (2 Cor 3:2). Know who you are and,
people will know WHOSE you are. Guys, stay

V2V INSIDER VICTORY TO VICTORY CHURCH OAKINGTON MANOR DRIVE HA9 6NF

serious! Yes the girls think you have swagger for

days, you know that already, thats why you bought
the clothes! In all this, there is one scripture that
comes to mind...first part) John 10:10 For the thief
comes but to kill steal and destroy... dont catch the
bait! You are worth more than that. The enemy
knows this, so you catch the revelation too!
University is full of every kind of person I am
convinced! My first night at University was an
interesting one. The reason I knew I was really
away from home was because I couldnt hear my
Mum praying in the night. But that caused me to
get up and pray and seek the face of God! All of
my family Bible studies, Pastors teaching and Youth
Leaders messages had to be activated! Do not take
for granted what you have. University is full of a lot
of people who are confused but think they are very
knowledgeable, it is amazing how one word you
speak silences that confusion. Daniel 11:32 can be
readily manifested in your life at University my life
is a testimony of that. Know God otherwise people
will confuse you, period!
Time and time again people go to University on
fire for God. Freshers week comes and that fire is
so quenched that there isnt even a smell of
smoke. Jesus paid the price for your life with His
life. How dare you sell Him out for a 3 ticket to a
rave? The kingdom of darkness has never
compromised its standard so why would you? You
are valuable to the Kingdom of God. Make your
life count in your University. Will people judge you?
Yeah! Will they persecute you? Oh yes. Will it hurt?
Most definitely! Will it be worth it? God I would do
it all again if I You told me to! Peoples lives
depend on you standing for God. People didnt
understand me, spoke about me, lied about me
(Christians and non Christians alike), but people got
saved and set free. I wanted my legacy to be Christ
and it came at a price. You will see the power of
God in the libraries, in the shops, in lectures and in
Halls of residence if you yield yourself 100%

Is University really that deep? I hear you ask,

yes it is! You are in the perfect position to be used
by God, dont YOU be in the imperfect position! I
dare you to stand out and set a standard. I dare
you to proclaim Christ. I dare you to let your light
shine. The King has called, will you answer? The
race has been set, will you run?
So in a Nutshell:
Know God if you already do there is lots more
to learn. If you do not know Him as you should
then you need to get to know Him
Know yourself Dont put yourself in positions
that you know you find hard to get out, remember
dont look at where you fell look but rather look at
where you slipped
Make yourself accountable You want to keep
running then allow the Youth leaders to get in your
face!
Are your friends making or breaking you? Your
life is too important to your generation to not know
the answer to that question
Your call affects the call of others - whose life
does God want to use you to impact?
Finally, HAVE FUN! DO THINGS YOU HAVE
NEVER DONE BEFORE, LIVE; LOVE LAUGH BUT ALL
WHILE YOU ARE GLORIFYING GOD!
I told you University was a wonderful place.

Music Review

Gospel album of the month

recently checked out Marvin Sapps

new album entitled Here I Am. You
wont
hear
earth
shattering
instrumental performances. You also
wont hear music production that will
change the face of Gospel music. When
you listen to this album, you will hear
music that will encourage, inspire and
uplift you.
We all go through different struggles in
our life. This album can serve as the sound
track for a given season. When you need
encouragement to hold on and make it
through, youll want to listen to Here I Am.
There are a number of quality songs on
this album. I am fairly confident that we
will be hearing I Came a lot.
The Best In Me has been on heavy
rotation for the last couple of weeks. This
version absolutely delivers! I love it!

Worship Album of the month

R
Praise You Forever and More Than A
Conqueror are also quality songs. They
make this a very well rounded album.
I am convinced that Here I Am is an
album that will absolutely bless your soul.
You wont find many tracks to blast in your
car. However, this album will minister to
you in a way that few albums do.

Childrens material of the month

o for all of you who are in your late

twenties early thirties will probably
remember Psalty. I cant help but to
testify of what a wonderful experience it
is to sing kids praise. I've done it almost
20 years ago and I'm still singing songs for
my everyday life situation.

We Worship is more than just a
CD it is an encounter with God
captured on CD. For those in attendance
it was a life-changing encounter and
especially for 19 people who gave their
hearts to God in the middle of the
recording after singing I Give Myself
Away.
This 2-disc recording places the listener
in the midst of a worship service that
features high energy praise with songs like
He Is and Downpour to intimate
worship with Closer/Wrap Me In Your
Arms and Show Me Your Face The
powerful One Thing leads off disc 2 with
the prayerful declarations of Give Us Your
Heart and the worship anthem I Give
Myself Away taking centre stage. You
If you did not have the pleasure of
having Psalty as a part of your childhood
you need to make sure that when you
have children this is a part of their DVD
collection. I am now 26 years old and I
have to say that Psalty is engrained on
my heart.
Psalty is a wonderful way to
introduce your child to Jesus, with catchy
songs and life lessons throughout makes
it a must have.
Some of my favourite songs are

dont want to miss The Sound Of

Heaven and We Will Go Forth featuring
Dove award-winning trio Group One
Crew.

Make me a servant which I still sing to

my son to this day, I cast all my cares
upon you and so many more.
We feed our children with so much
secular material, but how is this affecting
their spiritual walk? Its never too early
to teach your child to be a worshipper
and with Psaltys catchy and relatable
songs it makes it an easy process for
them.

Gods Angels
Watching
Over Me

Alison Cameron
Makeup Artist

Psalm 91:11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee,
to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in
their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.

m writing this testimony to give God all

the glory for His goodness and His hand
of protection. We sometimes don't
realize that as God's children, He saves us
and protects us from many things on a day
to day basis and its not until something
happens that we realize how exposed and
fragile we are as people and we need Him
every hour of every day.
On Saturday the 6th of June, I was on
duty with the Homeless Ministry. I was in
Asda in Colindale and I had just finished the
shopping for making the sandwiches and
cakes to hand out to the homeless. I didnt
have my car that day so Kemi, who was also
on duty had very kindly offered to pick me
up as I had about 10 shopping bags.
We loaded the car up and made the 5

minute drive to the church in Burnt Oak

where we make the sandwiches and prepare
to minister. As we approached the church
we slowed down to turn right and the small
still voice of the Holy Spirit said "Your going
to be hit", two seconds later, I heard a loud
screech and then the car behind us smashed
into us with a massive crash, pushing us into
the oncoming traffic on the other side of the
road.
I was shunted forward, the impact
snapping my head backwards; it was then
that I realized I wasnt wearing my seatbelt
and that I could go through the windscreen
but for some reason it was like something
was very lightly holding my shoulders on
both sides, holding me into my seat. The
drink that I had bought in Asda which I had

V2V INSIDER VICTORY TO VICTORY CHURCH OAKINGTON MANOR DRIVE HA9 6NF

been sipping drenched me from head to toe;

my knees hit the glove compartment which
broke and came away from the force of the
crash.
Thank God the cars approaching had
seen us and had slowed down and so we
managed to swerve out of their way and
onto the pavement just outside of Tesco. I
was shocked and turned to see if Kemi was
ok which thankfully she was. The car that hit
us was an SUV and it had hit my side of the
car at the back so I had received the brunt
of the crash and when I got out of the car I
felt my neck and shoulders clench in a dull
pain. What was worse to be honest was
Kemi's poor car, which was mangled at the
back. The first thought in my head was "The
devil is a liar! Just as we were going to do
Gods' work this should happen".
We looked over at the car that had hit us
and saw that the drivers side of the car at
the front had completely broken down; the
wheel was punctured and had scraped the
parked cars on the side of the road. The
driver had got out and was limping. Kemi
and I couldnt believe it; we had survived the
crash with no serious injuries. My thoughts

turned towards getting the food out of the

car so we could start preparing for the
homeless. Kemi's car unfortunately was a
write off and she wasnt able to come out
with us, as she had to get her car towed back
to East London. She told me that the last
time she came out to minister her car had
broken down, but we give thanks anyway
because we are doing God's work and
striking out against the kingdom of darkness,
transferring souls into God's kingdom.
It wasnt until a little later that I realized
how lucky we had been. I popped out to get
some more bread to make the sandwiches
and I saw an ambulance at the scene of the
crash.
The driver of the SUV was being
strapped to a back brace on a stretcher and
being lifted into an ambulance. In
comparison, Kemi was absolutely fine
and my neck was only hurting a bit.
I wasnt wearing a seatbelt and could
have smacked my head on the dashboard or
been cut up by the windscreen but God's
mercy and goodness saved me. Glory to the
most High God!!

We sometimes don't realize that as God's children, He

saves us and protects us from many things on a day to
day basis and its not until something happens that we
realize how exposed and fragile we are as people and we
need Him every hour of every day.

My visit to

s parents we are all familiar with Bible

verses, which give direcon on disciplining
our children, on sparing the rod and
spoiling the child, on imparng wisdom through
the rod of correcon. Many of us nod our head in
agreement; shout praise the Lord or clap our hands
when these verses are quoted; feeling quite
chued with ourselves that this area of a childs
upbringing is under control. But I want us to stop
and think for a moment about what else is being
imparted into our childrens lives; about what is
going to keep them rm in Christ aer the rod of
correcon can no longer be applied and when, by
Law, they really dont have to do what we say.
You see, the Bible also talks about training a
child in the way he should go so that when he is
old he will not turn away from it. You may ask, but
how does one do this? I believe that every parent
has been given a unique opportunity to raise a

by Jennifer Carmichael
child, and that by seeking Gods wisdom a child can
be steered in the right direcon. Psalm 127:4 says
that like arrows in the hand of a warrior are
children born in ones youth. This means that every
parent has an opportunity to shoot the arrow in
any direcon chosen. My queson therefore is
where are you shoong your arrow and where is it
desned to land?

V2V INSIDER VICTORY TO VICTORY CHURCH OAKINGTON MANOR DRIVE HA9 6NF

Let me be honest, I count

my me as very precious and
dont like it to be wasted for
any reason. I work full me; I
study part me; I help with
homework; I aend school
meengs; I do household and
family chores, and the list goes
on, however I sll have a responsibility to ensure
that my daughter is exposed to the things of God in
a way that will train her in the way she should go.
This requires me to seek avenues where I believe
nourishment will be gained and where she will nd
freedom of expression in her youthful way.
A couple of years ago I found myself sleeping
under a tent in an open eld at a Chrisan camp in
Gower, South Wales. Aer I had snuggled up as
best I could in a cold, wet, and
damp place, I looked up to God
and rhetorically asked what on
earth was I doing there? I
remember saying to Him that
my acons must have earned
me some mummy brownie
points. You see when I stand
before God I not only have to
answer for the decisions made
for my life but also those made
for my daughters life. I have
therefore determined that I will not be found in a
posion where God says depart from me. And so
it is now that every Sunday aer church I can be
found hanging around waing for Youth Service to
nish.
Youth Service starts at 3:15 p.m. and nishes
at 5:00 p.m. This to me is a signicant chunk out of
my weekend and means that the regular Sunday
visits to my elderly godmother and then to my
mother sees me retuning home anyme aer 7:00
pm. This allows just enough me to relax before
starng the week all over again. The investment
made in my daughters life by her aending Youth
service however is immeasurable and therefore

cannot be judged against

what me I get home or by
the fact that I would like to be
relaxing a lot earlier on a
Sunday. My foundaon as a
parent is the fact that I only
get one chance to train my
daughter and that any
sacrice to ensure this is accomplished before God
cannot be too great. You see, in another 4 years
shell be driving herself to Youth service and Ill
have plenty of me to relax. The extra hours spent
hanging around now cannot be measured against
the eternal investment in her life.
Youth Service is lead by a team of seven vibrant
youth leaders. They all have dierent personalies
but have two things in common; they love God and
they love to laughboy do they
love to laugh! They have a
passion to see the lives of the
youth consecrated to God and
so give of their me in
consecraon to Gods service.
They minister the word of God
in a youthful manner and their
transparency helps the youth to
know that in spite of what
dicules they face it is
possible to stand rm in Christ.
My queson to you as a parent therefore is
where can your children be found during the hours
of Youth Service. Do you rush them out of church
because lunch is calling, or maybe a good Sunday
aernoon movie is showing? How about changing
priories? Why not pop into Youth Service and see
what its all about? Why not speak to the parents
of your childrens friends so that friends can aend
together? Why not arrange to car share and
alternate pick-ups? Be creave and imaginave
and nd a way to get your children involved.
Remember you only get one chance to train them
so make the best possible decisions for their
eternal salvaon.

YOUR
Legacy?

What
will be

This month is, What Will Be Your Legacy Month. What do people currently remember
about you? Have you ever thought about what your legacy will be when you die? Could it
be for your kind deeds and charitable donations? Or the friendliness you show others? Or
your peacemaking abilities? Your programs to encourage people into business? Your kind
words and supportive nature? Would you be remembered as a giver? Your forgiving and
helpful nature? Or for your ability to teach others about Christ? Your ability to minister to
people through song, dance, poetry, art and positive words? Or would you be well
known for negative reasons? Will your legacy encourage and build people up? Or will
your legacy break people down?

V2V INSIDER VICTORY TO VICTORY CHURCH OAKINGTON MANOR DRIVE HA9 6NF

hatever the case may be, What Will Be

Your Legacy Month reminds us to
rethink our attitudes and if it needs
changing, then change it for the better this
month. You have the whole month to begin to do
something positive, approximately 31 days, to
cultivate a lifestyle of positivity towards others.
What Will Be Your Legacy Month is a time for
people to reflect on their past and present
actions and vow to make positive changes that
will affect future generations? The seeds,
whether positive or negative, that we plant in our
children's lives, will grow and reflect our
teachings.
If you are struggling to start something
positive. Maybe you could start with the little
things. Are you friendly? What is the state of your
heart? Do you smile often? Do you help people?
Do you even speak to people? Learn to listen. Try
telling someone you care about them. Try doing
something positive in your community. Say
something nice to someone. Say hello to a
stranger. Forgive if you have unforgiveness
against anyone. Say thank you when people do
good to you, and even when they don't, always
make a conscious decision to be nice to everyone.
Pay attention to your actions and find out what
you are good at and what you easily do that adds
value to the lives of others. Then you can develop
it, and successfully change peoples lives.

others, such as insecurities, jealousy, envy, selfrighteousness, stinginess and malice. It should
not be about you. Develop a pure heart, and
think about how you can put a smile on
someone's face each day?

This month, think about building

your value to create your legacy. For
example if you feel you need to go back
to school to fulfill your legacy, then
begin to work towards it. Guard your
heart and remember your eyes and
your ears are the gateway to your
heart. Beware of people whose
purpose is to discourage you from
leaving a legacy. And don't be the one
that stops others from achieving theirs.
Think love, care, and pursuit this month
and your legacy will soon become clear.
We would love to hear what your legacy is
and what you are doing this month to work
towards leaving your legacy. We will publish your
feedback in our next issue. Please email us at
v2vinsider@aol.com
or v2vnews@hotmail.com.

We all have God given talents, and if used in

the right way, will bless and edify the lives of

Eton Mess
Meringue tends to be popular with children, so try
combining it with berry fruits this Eton Mess of
slightly tart berries with crushed meringue is
heavenly. In this eton mess recipe, berries are very
rich in vitamin C, which helps us to ght infecon and
absorb iron. You could also
pure and sieve some
raspberries together with a
lile icing sugar to make a
raspberry coulis, and sr this
through the mixture. Making
raspberry coulis is another way
to boost your childs vitamin-C
levels, and it goes well with
vanilla ice cream and peaches
to make a peach melba.
Ingredients
260g/9 oz/ 1 cups mixed berries eg: blueberries,
blackberries, strawberries, raspberries

1 tbsp plus 1 tsp icing sugar

125 ml / half cup double (heavy) cream
quarter tsp vanilla extract
1 X 200g pot Greek Yoghurt (8 oz) in US 1 x 7 oz pot
Greek yoghurt
2 meringue nests 35g, broken into pieces
Method:
Put the berries in a bowl. Add one tablespoon of
icing sugar and mix, crushing a few of the berries.
In a separate bowl, put the cream , 1 tsp of icing
sugar and the vanilla and whip to so peaks. Sr the
yoghurt to loosen slightly, then carefully fold the
yoghurt into the cream, followed by the berries and
the meringue.
Spoon the mixture into 4 glasses and serve.
You can chill these for up to 30 minutes but not
much longer as the meringue will start to go soggy.

Dare to

trust

Him

woke up more frustrated than ever the feeling

of stuck gripping my throat. With tears in my
eyes, I remember saying to myself I have no
one to look after me. Im single with no husband to
support me. Then I heard, loud in my spirit, but I
am here, Ill look after you! Now that was what I
needed to give me the courage to take the step for
change.
I was feeling this way due to being in a deadend job with no prospect or progress in sight. For
months I had been trying hard to get another job,
attending interviews but not quite making it.
Early last year (2009), I read a book by Joel
Osteen, Become A Better You. Reading this book
pumped up my faith so much that I was ready to
just quit my job. Then the realities of bills to pay
crept in and fear held me back I bottled out!
People were losing their jobs left, right and
centre. Here I was about to do something that
would look crazy to most people quit my job. I
was miserable doing what I did and it didnt have to
be that way!
I reached my breaking point, and Id had
enough! It was at this point that I heard the Lord

Kemi Ogidan

say to me that He would look after me. I knew what

I had to do. I was reading my Bible and had a
scripture confirmation, Ephesians 3:20 Now unto
Him who is able to do exceedingly, abundantly
above all that we ask or think according to the
power that works in us. This gave me the peace in
my heart to confirm I was doing the right thing. On
the Sunday we had a guest speaker, Pastor Duane
White, and guess what his foundation scripture for
his message was? Ephesians 3:20 the infamous
Huperman message. Wow! That doubly
confirmed things for me! As far as I was concerned
this was God speaking to me loud and clear.
The next day, Monday morning, the fear of
handing in my resignation letter almost held me
but I pushed through the fear and handed it in any
way. The feeling of liberation was almost too much!
The hardest part was over.
Everyone in the company knew that I didnt
have another job to go to, but they admired my
bravery little did they know of the battle on the
inside! One of the directors gave me such a glowing
reference; I almost didnt recognise it was me he
was writing about. He then offered to circulate my

V2V INSIDER VICTORY TO VICTORY CHURCH OAKINGTON MANOR DRIVE HA9 6NF

CV to his contacts he didnt have to do that. Other

managers were also offering to give me references
this could only be God!
I stopped listening to the news, as it was always
full of doom and gloom! I was so charged up with
faith, I spoke the Word (for with God nothing shall
be impossible, trust in the Lord with all your heart;
if you can believe, all thing are possible to him that
believeth), praised God for my next job - kept
feeding my faith! I was believing God that I would
have a choice to choose from.
Within the first couple of weeks of finishing
work, I lined up three interviews. Out of those
interviews, I was offered two jobs the third offer
was for another role that would be starting a
couple of months later. So in effect, I was offered
three jobs, in the middle of recession! This could
ONLY have been God.
I had tried for months to do it my way, and it
was only when I decided to let go and let God, that
opportunities presented themselves. I remember
hearing somewhere, to get different results you
have to do something different.
Needless to say, I chose a job, which had a sixmonth contract. God had favoured me, I have
grown so much professionally that it has provided
me with the confidence to achieve my dreams with
God as my Captain! This experience has shown me
that fear can no longer hold me back and that God
will come through every time!
I believe God wanted me to know His
faithfulness and provision; He wanted me to know
Hes got my back.
My life journey is uniquely different to any
body elses and God gave me the courage to put my
faith into action. Faith is what gets Gods attention
and He will faithfully see His Word come to pass.
This is just to encourage you to hang on in there
with your faith, He is more than able!
The New Year had arrived (2010); Id started
thinking my contract ends in another couple of

months. I thought if God was able to do it for me

before he was able to do it again. At work, due to
budget cuts they began the 3-month consultation
process for redundancies. All hope of having my
contract extended vanished.
I updated my CV and started sending them out
to see if there were any takers. Slowly I began to
get interest for interviews. I started to become self
confident, and if Im honest a bit of pride was mixed
up in there too! I seemed to be the only one that
was going for interviews in my department, while
others were struggling. I thought this must be the
favour of God.
By the end of my contract I had already
attended six interviews, my confidence in my
abilities began to dwindle considerably. To top it off
my line manager attended one interview and got
the job!
These kinds of situations have a way of
revealing certain things about you, things you
didnt know you had - namely, pride, jealousy, envy
and even bitterness. Now, it wasnt my managers
fault that she was offered the first job she was
interviewed for, so I didnt understand why I was
feeling this way. I understood that I had to deal with
these negative feelings inside me! By Gods grace I
was able to overcome them.
A month had passed since I finished work and
no firm job offer after two more interviews again
with the same type of feedback. I had lined up two
more interviews in the second week of May.
My penultimate interview was very easy, built
a real rapport with the interviewer and again I was
quietly confident that I would get the job. This was
a three month contract with a possibility of
extension. The money offered was great, I thought
that God mustve made me go through all I did to
reward me greatly. So I was convinced this was
Gods will for me and I was bound to get the job.
I had one more interview scheduled the next
day in the morning (LAST interview). As l was

V2V INSIDER VICTORY TO VICTORY CHURCH OAKINGTON MANOR DRIVE HA9 6NF

40

41

AUGUST 10

getting ready, I received a phone call on the results

on my interview the day before. I didnt get it! I was
pleasant to the lady but I was almost in shock! My
hands were shaking so much I couldnt apply my
make up properly! I was a complete emotional
mess (people who know me would know that Im
not one to cry easily).
I reviewed the job description of the interview
I was getting ready for, some of what was required
I didnt have. Every confidence I had (mine or not)
no longer existed! I felt so low at that point that I
contemplated not attending the interview, but I
thought, Im not a quitter, lets just see what
happens.
Because of the way I was feeling I didnt make
that much effort with my appearance. I was still
presentable but not to the level of precision I would
get normally.
On my way to the interview, I met one of my
mums Pastors, who I told, and he said to me that I
would have a testimony to tell and that I must
phone him to let him know. I just took it at face
value and accepted it (even though I still felt down).
I arrived at the location, and it was a smart
looking building, people were looking sharp, etc. I
thought to myself, great I look out of place now!
No way am I going to get the job!
In my opinion, I thought the interview was the
worst out of all the interviews I had previously
attended! The questions were different to the ones
I had before, at some points I was honest enough to
tell them I didnt have in-depth knowledge in
particular areas. I remember Pastor Douglas say
what ever you compromise to get, you will
eventually loose. During this time, I distinctly
remember thinking that I definitely wasnt going to
get this job!
Anyway, I went home completely dejected with
a knowing that I didnt get this job. I was an
emotional mess I didnt know how much more
rejection I could take. But God being good, I still had
a hope that another job interview was going to
come up again, I just need to keep applying!
In my heart, I wrote off that job and I wasnt
going to waste my hope on it. So I moved on in my

AUGUST 10

mind.
The next morning I had an email with the
subject referring to the job title, I glanced at it and
I knew it was a rejection so I didnt bother to read
it.
Then a thought came to me to just read the
whole email to confirm my position and file it away
in the appropriate folder with the rest of the
rejections.
As I kept on reading it was saying thank you
for attending the interview yesterday. I am please
to confirm you have been successful. I thought, is
this a joke? This was possibly the worst interview I
had ever attended! How could this be?
My weeping only endured for the night before,
and my joy came that morning. God really
surprised me with this one. I didnt even need to
negotiate the salary; it was what I asked God for!
I had left out a lot in-between to keep it short.
But the main points I gleaned from this experience
are:
God wants me to be a better person, by
revealing things to me that needs to be dealt
with
God is in the details, ever constant friend in
times of turmoil thats why he sent that
Pastor to encourage me on my way to the
interview
God is always faithful, but Hes not a one-trick
pony. The results are always positive but the
route and journey He takes us to success is
different.
Finally, its not by might or power but by the
Spirit of God. You see it wasnt about my ability,
appearance or my speech but completely about
God and His favour!
Now Im just waiting for confirmation of start
date and without a doubt I know that God is faithful
to complete that which He has started.
I always say to myself, Its not for me to figure
out the how, thats Gods job. Mine is to believe
and trust that God is able to do His jobthe how!

Salvation Prayer

If you dont know Jesus as your Saviour, the Bible says that He wants to know you. He
wants to come into your life and be your Saviour and your Lord. The Bible says that you
must repent of your sins. That means be sorry for your sins and turn from them, and then
you must trust Him to forgive your sins. Today you can pray this simple prayer and Jesus
will come into your heart and forgive you of all your sins.
Here are some scriptures that will help you to have a
greater understanding of why you need to be saved.
We would also love to hear from you if you prayed
this prayer for the first time. Our service times and
contact details are all on page 2.
John 3:16 says For God so loved the world that He
gave His only-begotten Son, that whoever believes
in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
Roman 5:8 But God commends His love toward us
in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us.
Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy
mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine
heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou
shalt be saved.
1John 4:9 In this the love of God was revealed in
us, because God sent His only begotten Son into
the world that we might live through Him.
Revelation 20:12 And I saw the dead, the small and
the great, stand before God. And the books were
opened, and another book was opened, which is the
Book of Life. And the dead were judged out of
those things which were written in the books,
according to their works.
Revelation 20:15 And if anyone was not found
having been written in the Book of Life, he was cast
into the Lake of Fire.

Breast
awareness
Your breasts
The breasts (mammary glands) are a pair of
glandular organs that produce milk in response to
the hormonal changes of childbirth. They're mainly
made up of fatty tissue, which starts high on the
front of the chest and extends down and around
into the armpit. They are supported by ligaments
and large muscles.
Each breast has 15 to 20 lobes with a number
of lobules and ducts surrounded by fatty and
supportive tissue. Each lobule has about 30 major
ducts that open onto the nipple. The darker area
of skin around the nipple is called the areola. At the
edge of the areola there are large glands that
produce fluid to lubricate the nipple.
In each armpit there are about 20 to 30 lymph
nodes (glands), which drain fluid from the breast.
These form part of the lymphatic system that helps
the body to fight infection.
It's common and perfectly normal for one
breast to be larger than the other. The nipples
usually point forward, although they may look
different on each breast. It's not unusual for one or
both nipples to be turned inwards (inverted). This
can be present from birth or can happen when the
breasts are developing.
The breasts are constantly changing from
puberty, through adolescence and the childbearing
years and into the menopause, affected by
changing levels in the female hormone oestrogen.
During pregnancy, the breasts get much larger
as the number of milk-producing cells increases.

The nipples become darker and may remain that

way after you've given birth.
Around the menopause lumps are common.
These often turn out to be breast cysts (benign
fluid-filled sacs).
Breast tissue also changes with age. It begins
to lose its firmness and the milk-producing tissue
is replaced by fat, making the breasts sag. This is
more noticeable after the menopause, when
oestrogen levels fall. As you grow older, your
breasts may change size too. If you take HRT
(hormone replacement therapy) your breasts may
feel firmer and sometimes quite tender.
Being breast aware
Every woman should be breast aware throughout
her adult life. It's an important part of caring for
your body. It means knowing how your breasts look
and feel normally, so you notice any changes that
might be unusual for you.
Get into the habit of looking at and feeling your
breasts from time to time. There is no set way to
do this. You can decide what you're comfortable
with and when it's convenient for you. You don't
have to look and feel at the same time.
What to look for
You need to be aware of any changes that are
new or different, such as:
A change in size - one breast may become
noticeably larger or lower
A nipple that has become inverted (pulled in) or

V2V INSIDER VICTORY TO VICTORY CHURCH OAKINGTON MANOR DRIVE HA9 6NF

changed its position or shape

A rash on or around the nipple
Discharge from one or both nipples
Puckering or dimpling of the skin
A swelling under your armpit or around your
collarbone (where the lymph nodes are)
A lump or thickening in your breast that feels
different from the rest of the breast tissue.
Constant pain in one part of your breast or
armpit
Breast awareness five-point code
The Department of Health recommends that
instead of examining your breasts every month for
abnormalities, you follow this five-point code,
which is much more effective at detecting changes
and abnormalities.
1. Know what's normal for you
Woman of all ages should be aware of the normal
appearance and texture of their breasts. The
following can be normal:
One breast bigger than the other
Nipple inversion
Accessory breast/nipple (two to five per cent)
Lumpiness
Tenderness or pain
During the menstrual cycle, some women
experience enlarged, tender, lumpy breasts and
these symptoms settle after the period. But
some women experience lumpy, tender breasts
all the time.
During pregnancy, breasts become larger as
the milk-producing cells multiply. It's normal for the
nipples to get darker and the blood vessels to
become more prominent.
As you age, breast tissue loses its elasticity and
it's normal for breasts to sag. During the
menopause, your breasts may shrink (as a result of
the reduction in oestrogen), although sometimes
they do get larger. The nipples may alter, as the

major ducts behind them get shorter and wider.

Get to know what is normal for you by:
Feeling your breasts every day until you're
familiar with their texture and how it can change
through the menstrual cycle
Look and feel your breasts regularly, whenever
it's convenient for you
2. Know what changes to look and feel for
Once you're aware of what's normal for you, it's
important to look out for changes in your breasts.
You should look out for any of the following:
A change in the shape of the breast (pulling of
the skin, visible swelling)
Changes in the nipple (pulling in)
Swelling in the armpit
Lumps or thickening that feels different from the
rest of the breast
3. Look and feel
Whenever is convenient for you:
Look at your breasts in the mirror and notice
how they fall and move as you raise your arms
Look at the position of your nipples
Feel your breasts from time to time
4. Report any changes to your GP without delay
The majority of changes will be normal. Your GP
may:
Ask you to return at another time in your
menstrual cycle
Refer you to a breast clinic
Invite you to attend routine screening if you're
between the age of 50 and 70
5. Attend routine screening if you're 50 or over
Between breast-screening appointments, it's
important that you continue to be breast aware
and follow the five-point code.

How to avoid a

stroke
What is a stroke?
A 'stroke' or cerebrovascular accident as it's
medically known is a term used to describe brain
disorders, which occur when the blood supply to
the brain is disrupted in some way. When the blood
supply is disrupted, the brain cells are deprived of
oxygen and other nutrients, causing some cells to
become damaged and others to die.
Around 120,000 people in the U.K. suffer a
stroke every year, the majority are over the age of
55.
What causes a stroke?
The most common cause of stroke is usually when
there is a blockage in the flow of blood to the brain,
often as a result of a blood clot forming in an artery
that carries blood to the brain. This type of stroke
is called a ischaemic stroke and is usually the end
result of atherosclerosis - a build up of fatty
deposits (cholesterol and other debris) in the
arteries over many years. The build up of fatty
deposits called atheroma, causes the arteries in the
brain to narrow (fur up) and a blood clot may then
block the flow of blood through the artery. If the
blood clot forms in a major artery that leads to the
brain it may be known as a cerebral thrombosis. A
blood clot may also travel in the bloodstream to the
brain from another part of the body, such as the
heart or neck, where it may lodge in the brain and
block an artery. This is known as a cerebral

embolism. If the stroke symptoms disappear within

24 hours, this is known as a transient ischaemic
attack (TIA) or a 'mini stroke' and is a warning sign
of a possible major stroke.
What are the symptoms of a stroke?
There is usually little warning that you are going to
suffer a stroke and most people do not know the
symptoms of a stroke. If the symptoms you are
experiencing are due to a stroke, immediate
medical attention could save your life, and greatly
enhance the chance of recovery. If you believe you
or someone else is suffering from any of these
symptoms you should call 999 immediately.
The most common stroke symptoms include:
A sudden numbness or weakness of the face,
arm or leg, especially on one side of the body.
Weakness or inability to move one side of the
body.
Difficulty speaking or understanding what others
are saying.
Sudden blurred or decreased vision in one or
both eyes.
Dizziness or loss of balance and co-ordination.
Sudden severe headache, which has been
described as being like a blow to the head
(associated with a haemorrhagic stroke).
Slurred speech.
Difficulty swallowing

Facts about strokes :There are 60,000 deaths due to a stroke every
year in the U.K.
Every 5 minutes someone in the U.K. suffers a
stroke.
A stroke is the third most common cause of
death in the U.K. after heart disease and cancer
Slash your odds of a stroke by following our guide
Gym'll fix it
Another reason to pump iron: an eight-year study
of 8000 men at Erasmus Medical Centre in the
Netherlands found men with high testosterone
levels are less likely to suffer strokes. Boost your
levels with lunges, squats and dead-lifts for the
greatest gains.
Berry your problems
Like puppies and Bond movies, cranberries
shouldn't just be for Christmas. According to
University of Massachusetts scientists, the wonder
fruit protects your grey matter with arterycleansing flavanoids. For maximum protection,
down 250ml of juice a day.
Stay indoors
High pollution levels can cause arteries to harden
and clots to form, dramatically increasing stroke
risk, according to research from Dr Shin Yamazaki of
Kyoto University in Japan. His team found mortality
rates doubled when pollution levels were highest.
Floss
A foul mouth can really get you in trouble,
according to research published in the Journal Of
Periodontology. "Bacteria that causes gum disease
can set up an immune reaction that attacks your
arteries," says study author Dr Michael Roizen. The
tell-tale sign is multiple spots in your mouth. Avoid
gum disease with daily flossing and plaque
removal.

Get your oats

Soluble fibre found in porridge oats strips fatty
deposits from your arteries, lowering cholesterol
and stroke risk. 'Pinhead' or 'steel-cut' oats contain
the whole grain for maximum benefits. "Add
chopped apple to your porridge," advises
nutritionist Ian Marber. "It's rich in pectin, which
lowers fat levels in the blood."
Turn shellfish
A US study at Johns Hopkins University found
depressed men have higher levels of C-reactive
protein, a key stroke-predictor. You'll find the
highest concentrations in shellfish, advises
Margaret Rayman from the Centre for Nutrition
and Food Safety at Surrey University. Other foods
rich in selenium include kidney, liver and avocados.
Breathe easy
It's not just your weary bedmate's life that'll
seriously improve if you stop your snoring.
University of California research found that men
who snore suffer from hardened carotid arteries
lining the sides of the neck, blocking the flow of
blood to the brain, potentially leading to a massive
stroke. The most effective remedy? Sewing a tennis
ball into the backs of their night-shirts, the UCLA
scientists found. Looks real stylish too.
Stay hitched
You may think her nagging will drive you into an
early grave, but hang in there. Divorced and
widowed men are a quarter more likely to suffer
strokes, say Swedish scientists from Malm
University Hospital. Risk is highest within 12
months of a divorce, probably due to the resulting
stress, depression and lifestyle changes. On the
other hand, men who had never married showed
no increase, and divorcees' risk returns to bachelor
levels after three years.

Joshua 1:8 reminds us that scriptural meditation makes us obedient: "Do not let this
Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may
be careful to do everything written in it". Through meditating on God's Word, we refresh
and restore our souls. Taking the time to meditate on God's Word is good medicine for
our souls.
We know the Lord will bless you as you give priority to reading His Word daily

A LOOK INSIDE
THE STORE
HOUSE
MINISTRY

he Storehouse is a ministry where we

provide non-perishable groceries to
members of V2V church who are in need.
As a church we have been diligent in feeding the
homeless and reaching out with food, clothing
and provision for those outside who are less
fortunate than we are. The Storehouse Ministry
was birthed out of the desire to help the members
of V2V Church who are experiencing financial
hardship by supplying them with groceries.
Church should be a place where there is no lack
in any area and God still remains the ultimate
source. Acts 4:34-35 Nor was there anyone
among them who lacked; for all who were
possessors of lands or houses sold them, and
brought the proceeds of the things that were sold,
and laid them at the apostles' feet; and they
distributed to each as anyone had need. We
understanding that people sometimes find
themselves in a difficult place financially and may
find it difficult to come and ask for help, that is
why we keep all information confidential and
strive to be as discreet as possible with everyone
we deal with.
We would like to encourage the members of the
church to contact us if you are aware of anyone
that is in need or just need a friend. As an
example the Here 4 Team kept us informed of
someone who was ill and had need of food and
wasnt able to contact us directly themselves.

V2V INSIDER caught up with

Stewart & Megan Third

Stewart: I find great joy and satisfaction in being

able to help members of the church when they are
going through a difficult time and it reminds me of
what the Word says: But whoever has this worlds
goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up
his heart from him, how does the love of God abide
in him? (1 John 3:17)
Megan: I love to see the joy on peoples faces when
they receive the groceries.
This is a testimony of someone who was recently
helped by the ministry:
I really have to Thank God for the professionalism,
sensitivity and love that I was shown from Megan
and Stewart when I approached them for my
request. They made me feel comfortable 'asking'
for help at a time when I needed it most; and even
went that extra mile to drop the groceries directly to
my home! Keep up the good work and may Our
Lord continually bless you for all that you do
Lastly we would like to thank everyone for their
continual support, either through prayer, finances,
testimony or encouragement.
