Materials:
Clay
Books on different countries and their culture
Paper
Pencils
Handout of what is expected in their paper/home
Rubric

Procedures:
Teacher: Somebody describe to me what your house looks like (chose 3

students to describe shortly what their house looks like)

Teacher: Somebody tell me what foods their family eats the most (chose 3

students to tell you what they eat in their home)

Teacher: Somebody tell me what their families do on the weekend (chose 3

students to tell you what they do on the weekend)

Teacher: See everyone lives somewhere different, eats different foods, and do
different things. We all have different cultures based on where we are from
and who we are. Today we are going outside of the United States to see what
the cultures are like in other countries. Each of you are going to draw a
random country and that is going to be yours for this project. I have checked
out books on each country for you to do your research with. In each book is at
least one picture of what their houses look like. You are going to get clay and
recreate those houses the best that you can. To go with your clay house you
are going to write a paragraph on your country. In that paragraph you will
have to tell us which country is yours, where it's located, what they eat, what

they celebrate, and any other interesting facts.

Give the students the paper with the list of items that need to be included in

their paragraph for reference

Teacher: Once the hour and 30 minutes is up, we will all take turns showing
our clay home, and reading our paragraph. The goals is to learn about the
different cultures so make sure you pay attention to the other students
presentations and take notes

On strips of paper write down different countries and fold them up. Have each
child one at a time come and pick a folded piece of paper. That is then their

country that they are going to use for this project.

As the teacher have at least two different books for each country checked out
from the library, and set up on the table for the children to grab. Have the

children come and grab them.

Let the children read through the books and write their paragraphs on their

country
Once the child shows they are done with their paragraph, give them a small

block of clay so they can recreate their countries home

D. Closure:
Once the hour and 30 minutes is up have the children sit down on the carpet

in the front of the classroom

Give each student paper and a pencil to take notes with during other peoples

presentations
One by one call the students up to give their short presentation on their

country and their culture. Fill out rubric as the students are presenting
Once all the presentations are done have the students go back to their seats
as that is the end of the lesson
